For an Indian restaurant, Namskar is particularly nice. They take care in their presentation and the food is very delicious.
Not your average East Indian restaurant. This place is more upscale and the kitchen is good. Nice place for that special occasion when you want something different. Quiet ambience, service is refined. Try to restrain yourself from ordering too much since the menu has lots to offer. All of the usual, plus more.
if i could eat here all the time when i got indian food, i would, but i don't live close enough. their food is incredible, i wish they had another location.
Very authentic food, in my opinion. Some of the best Indian food I've had in Calgary. The servings may be a bit on the smaller side, so perhaps order 1 more dish for the table than expected. Very comfortable ambiance inside, it's accessible and staff are friendly. Five stars.
Full disclosure: I came here on Father's Day.
I'm not sure if it's correlated but the service was so slow that day. It took a long time for our appy to arrive and even longer for our entrees. I usually order dessert but we had somewhere to be after dinner!
For the appy, we ordered the paneer pakora, which is home made cottage cheese fried in chick pea batter. I usually love me some cheese...

Food is so delicious ! They recently changed their delivery fees which are so ridiculous we don't order from them anymore. But they know how to cook if you can make it in to the restaurant.
I Was extremely disappointed. I got butter chicken, rice, and garlic naan. The butter chicken tasted like tomato soup with boiled chicken plopped in it. The rice was rice (hard to screw up). The naan was undercooked, pretty much still dough which was sad.
The delivery guys (2 of them) were polite and the guy on the phone was nice, but that was the only good thing going for them.
I came here for the all you can eat lunch buffet and I was excited because I love Indian food! It is only $16.95, which is pretty reasonable for all you can eat.
They had an assortment of food. I had some rice, naan bread, assorted vegetables, and of course, butter chicken! I personally love spicy food and I found the butter chicken to have no spice to it at all, which was disappointing, but...

tandoori chicken was meh and |MEH meh meh. The bad parts of the chicken served heaping with bones. I imagine they use the good for butter chicken. Veg Kora looked like store bought frozen pees and carrots in babyfood. The mango Kafli and Lychi drink were meh. 2 mehs. I WILL NOT BE BACK EVAR
Fabulous food - The seating could be expanded a bit to accomodate larger parties and the parking area could use an expansion as well.
I thought the food was great. I thought the price was reasonable. However, my service was not up to the standard I would have wanted. There was one main waiter and a couple of folks bringing out food, but the server was dramatically out-numbered.
My advice, anticipate your needs a bit further in advance than you normally would - unless they have an adequate staff on hand.
Every dish was flavourful and generous portions. The butter chicken was wonderful. So tasty with a cold beer! Day was blinking hot. Busy with nice chatty vibe - a bit noisy but not aggravatingly so. Happy friendly server.
Enjoyed some beautiful take out from Namskar. Vegetarian Dal is excellent. Had some curry coconut prawns that were to die for. The butter chicken was superb and the lamb Lorna was savoury but a little too spicy for my liking. Recommend the saffron rice as well. Delicious. Generous helpings. The service for take out was very attentive. I recommend Namskar.
I ate at Namskar last night and just loved the food!! Every dish I ordered was so delicious and flavorful - the Goan fish curry was just amazing!
I also appreciated the great customer service. Sunil was our waiter and was so friendly and knowledgeable. In fact, everything we ordered was based on his recommendations and we are still raving...

Consistently excellent food and service with a great atmosphere. Best butter chicken I've had in a long while, and the malai kofta is great too. We always order one dish per diner plus naan (the garlic is excellent if you want to spring for it) and saffron rice. We've tried the pakora too and it's delicious. I've brought people here for their first time eating Indian, as well as people who are... more
Saw all the great reviews. I asked about their use of dairy before making reservation for lunch buffet. Had to call back for slight time change, and was asked about my dairy intolerance -- apparently the first guy made a note on the reservation so waiter could point out dishes to me when I got there. How considerate! There were... more
This is pretty much my favorite restaurant. I've found pretty much everything I've ordered to be excellent! I generally get the Butter Chicken but I've also ordered the Chicken, Beef and Lamb Vindaloo, and the Chicken Tikka. Their garlic naan is perfectly chewy and the pakora (both chicken and vegetable) are amazing.
They are also very consistent. The food is always good and, to date, I have...

We went there on a Thursday night and as soon as I entered I was surprised by the crowd. The restaurant was 80% full which is impressive for a weeknight considering the fact that the location also does not attract a lot of walk ins.
We had the appetizer platter and the house wine to start. The house wine is terrible but I was not expecting anything better in an Indian restaurant. It was our...

There are lots of Indian restaurants in Calgary, but we tend to keep returning to Namskar. Service is friendly and efficient, food is always fresh, tasty and well presented.
We particularly like their lunch buffet which has lots of options and is very good value.
The restaurant itself is bright and airy and quite modern in style. Parking is available...

Monday evening.
Had the vegetarian dishes tonight.
Baingan Patiala
Another regional speciality. Slices of eggplant
with cashews and onion seeds.
Tasted a little burnt and I cannot say that I noticed any cashews in it at all, perhaps in a fine paste form?
Dal Makhani
Black lentil & red kidney beans cooked in various spices reduced with cream & butter....

Try the lunch Buffet. The Tandoori and Butter Chicken are wonderful. Finish with a cup of Chai tea and if feels like you are sitting in another world right here in Calgary. Terrific Experience.
Best Indian I've had in Calgary. Their buffet was good but a bit pricey for the selection. I wish they had Chicken Tika Masala on the buffet but the Butter Chicken was great and satisfied my craving.
The place itself was nice, clean, very comfortable and the people there were very friendly. When ordering it was recommend getting 3 dishes and sharing between each other. First we order some apps (Namskar Veggie Platter), it tasted good but the portions were small but since we only had a small group of 4 it was more than enough. If you have a bigger group you will need to order at least 2... more
Awesome food, but bad service.. I was there couple of days before with my friends while returning from Banff. We thought to try this Indian restaurant, Decor and Ambience was really nice, Food was good, I loved it but they have to improve a lot in Service..
Hope to try it soon next time...

My experience last time here didn't meet all the hype I heard, so I'm glad I had another excuse to revisit.
This is a great place if you have a large group (10 or more). They have a basement that you holds over 30 guests. This is a good place to keep in mind for your larger events.
The food was ok. The portions area plenty. I left full, but my curry tastebud wasn't satisfied. The service is...

First off we had a gem of a server which always makes the experience that much better. The dishes were very flavorful. A couple downsides: chicken in the vindaloo was quite tough, the samosas crust was a bit to much like pie crust .
Awesome coconut rice and the best dang gulab jamun in the city
not a good place, and not sure why we went back to eat. The place looks nice from the outside. But for what you get, in terms of selection and quality of food its not even close to near the top in Calgary. Prices are way to high for what you get.
So happy with the experience here! service was good and the food was even better! As a vegetarian, Indian restaurants are always a favourite.
REALLY GOOD value for money and the food was very authentic!
I would definitely visit again because of the quality, my favourite dish was the chicken madras and chicken vindaloo. Delicious!
We were seated promptly. The service was good--the waiter gave suggestions.
We ordered their Tandoori Sampler(Non Veg) which was very tasty, hot and reasonably spicy. Enjoyed the chutney with it.
Then we ordered:- Coconut fried rice which was good along with Layered Paranthas and Garlic naan--these came promptly and were piping hot, tasty and well balanced.
We ordered

This was our first time here! The boys and I came in at 12:30pm and the place was packed! It's a good thing we made reservations online. Our server was very pleasant and seated us immediately. We wasted no time and ordered mango lassis-- yum... they were thick, creamy and not too sweet.

I love this restaurant - I never dine there, but I get take-out a couple of times a year. Their kadhai paneer (chilies, green pepper, tomatoes, onions and paneer) is the most AMAZING dish I've ever had. All I can say is that the quality of food is always consistently high and the food is generally wonderful... if you aren't too keen on sitting in the restaurant, call ahead and get take-out and... more
Absolutely love this place. Their butter chicken is incredible. One of my favorite places to eat in the city!
I am sad that I didn't try this place sooner!
I've always been intrigued by the uniquely shaped building on 16th avenue. I was also thrilled that there was no buffet, as I much prefer ordering a few quality dishes rather than the excessive quantity and average quality of a buffet.
I really enjoyed the garlic naan, veggie pakora platter, and dal. The portions, when they come out, seem like...

Went for the buffet - it was really good. I enjoyed the Naan bread. There was a good selection. Nothing spicy though. I would go back again - great value.
It's good, But it's not great for buffet (limited selection and expensive)
Servers are very friendly and nice, food is tasty.
This is the first indian meal I have truly enjoyed in a long while. We shared a main course tandoori chicken as a starter - which was served without the red dye but still tasted as it should. We then had a chicken korma and lamb madras both of which we would recommend. We hope our return visit will be... more
I guess we should have had the butter chicken everyone talks about. We had a korma, biryana and maja. No depth of flavour. The real disappointment was the roti. We are pretty sure they were day olds. The naan that everyone else was eating looked good.
I've gone to this restaurant a couple times now, and every time I get very poor service. I've been forgotten about in the restaurant, and when I call I get put on hold never to be returned to. The only good thing I can say is, the butter chicken is the only thing I come back to this place for.... more
My wife and I have tried most of the Indian Retaurants in Calgary and have been very dissapointed, however, we were pleasantly surprised when we tried Namskar as the flavour of the food was very similar to what we were used to coming from the UK (where Indian food is a way of life). The portion sizes were ample and... more
Restaurant is a little tired looking on the exterior but the interior is nicer than expected. Tables nicely set with cloth napkins, which I much prefer. Namskar gets good points for service (very friendly), and the food station for lunch buffet was very clean. The food was generally tasty, but nothing had much spice (heat), the butter chicken seemed to be soaking in Campbell's Tomato soup (as others have mentioned), and there was no variety of Naan bread - just plain. My biggest complaint is that... more
Soooo disappointing.
Considering the price is much higher than my normal Indian takeout, I expected MUCH better.
Naan - greasy (but large)
Butter chicken - flavorless and terribly disappointing.
Vegetable korma - bland, lacked variety of vegetables.
Beef vindaloo - not spicy at all, tasted like mom's beef stew.
I felt SO let down, becuase it's rated so highly. Even if it were cheaper, I...

We were a party of six with a reservation. Never been there before. Restaurant has nice decor, nice ambience, and we anticipated a lovely meal together. I only will eat at Indian restaurants that have good butter chicken otherwise I don't see the point. This place has great food all around, good buffet lunch with many items to choose from and YUM YUM butter chicken. Clean and spacious, I also like how they give you a stamp per buffet and a free one every so often.... more
Overall the staff, service and food was quite good... except the butter chicken... the chicken was nice and tender but the sauce was awful, it tasted like Campbell's tomato soup, I've had better butter chicken at the mall food court.
Went to this restaurant with work colleagues, they have been many times in the past and I can see why. The service was fabulous as was the food. The restaurant was quite busy but the food came out in a very timely manner and our waiter was very helpful. I will definitely go back there again and again!
Overall very fresh and tasty. We have eaten in 3 Indian restaurants since relocating to Calgary and this was the best.
This place always has the best East Indian food and an amazing service.
The quality of food is remarkably consistent and the service is top notch
Very well managed and clean restaurant. Keep up the great work.
Stopped in for a quick dinner because we were driving by and it looked interesting. Ambiance was excellent, staff quick and friendly and the food was excellent Will undoubtedly be back.
Authentic-seekers be warned... this place serves British-style (I would call them Western-style to be honest) curries. Naan bread was flat and uninspiring. Price was somewhat expensive for what you get. Not sure If I'll be back.
Namskar is the cream of the crop of Indian cuisine in Calgary. The combination of delicious food and terrific service in a friendly casual atmosphere makes this my favorite stop for Indian cuisine in calgary
I have been to Namskar twice, and I have to say I'm a fan!
The first time we went here was for a staff lunch so we did the buffet. The staff were super friendly, answered all of our questions and when we asked about dishes they weren't offering in the buffet that day - but were on their menu - they said we could phone ahead next time and they could try to add some different items in to try....

Most of the Indian restaurants in town are not bad, tend to make the same ol' stuff like butter chicken and so on as they specialize in northern westernized cuisine. Namskar is no different in this aspect.
What makes them uniquely different simply that they are. The food is made fresh, it's tastes better and the service is top notch. Unlike many of the other places I've been in (yes, I'm...

The place was packed on a Friday evening and that is usually a good sign! Except that I looked around and I didn't see one Indian customer in the restaurant! I said to myself maybe it's just a coincidence! I wish that was the case!

Lunch buffet is great. Lots of choice and lots of NAAN. You are able to try a variety of dishes you may not usually order. Pleasant atmosphere and seating, very clean. Excellent rice pudding.
Sadly I only paid one visit here because it was really very good and had I stayed longer in Calgary, I imagine it would have become a regular haunt! Went to Namskar for the Lunch Buffet. Overall the food was good, especially the pakora, nan, tandoori chicken and goat curry. Found the butter chicken a bit bland. There was not a lot of variety compared to other Indian Buffets.
I have had Indian food in Toronto, NYC, Edmonton, Calgary and more and this was one of my favourite meals! My partner had butter chicken and the tandori platter and loved both. I love eating here, the food is so good. can't tell how many times I've been here. The service, food and prices are all great. They have really good prawns, naan, and other dishes.
Namskar, you're the very first Indian restaurant in Calgary I ever ate at. You were my friend Ruth's favourite. Since then, you've been a pretty solid choice for me as well.
Great service inside, right on top of things for take-out.. You've got your game figured out.
Tonight, I popped in to grab some vegetarian friendly options. I love that your menu makes this easy to do!
I went to Namskar with a large group. A few were vegetarians, so the group ended up ordering several vegetarian dishes and shared amongst the table. I'm not a vegetarian, but let me say that the food was excellent! I prefer eating some type of meat with my dinner, but I was thoroughly surprised with what was offered. The Khumb Muttar Paneer was my favorite dish, I highly recommend it for anyone... more
Onion Bhaji's..nom, nom. This is my go to Indian and they never disappoint. Butter chicken is flavourful, creamy and with chicken that just seems to melt in your mouth it's hard to eat Indian anywhere else.
I checked out a few Indian buffets in Calgary. While Namskar does not have the greatest variety, they do have the highest quality. Best butter chicken in town!
I took my daughter here on a lunch date and was pleased to have a nice, quiet, experience that also involved tasty food. It was the lunch buffet that can sometimes come at a really low quality but I was impressed by how often they topped up their dishes and how, even near the end of the buffet time, they still provided fresh naan and other staples. The service was prompt and non-intrusive, and... more
The lunch buffet was decent and reasonable. It has variety and the butter chicken, tandoori chicken, paneer were all tasty. Naan was cold and slightly stale but the pulao and desserts were good.
Parking can be difficult due to the busy location.
Ambience etc was nice but the food quality and taste can't match the little Delhi Darbar (almost next door) at much lower cost.
Have been going here for years and have always enjoyed it. Friendliest staff, and best butter chicken in town!
A customer of ours is located in Calgary -- whenever we visit, this is a required stop for us now -- the coconut rice is FANTASTIC!
I ordered a butter chicken, not bad, like it creamier though. The naan is great, chewy. Service was quick. I thought it was a bit pricey for Indian food $17 for a small bowl of butter chicken. I had good buffet before with better food elsewhere fir the same price. Not particular good atmosphere, average. But overall not bad, would... more
One of the best Indian restaurants in Calgary that has not compromised on quality, taste and portions. Food and service is always good. Recent changes to menu by adding some Indo Chinese dishes is good. Will go their again and it is recommended
Not a very large selection with lack of some veggie dish but overall good for the price and I would go back,
We tried a number of Indian restaurants in Calgary and this was by far the best. We didn't dine in and we ordered food twice from this place. I often visit this great restaurant where we generally get great service and delicious food. We have guests from out of town that have this as a mandatory dinner spot whenever they come to visit. As a vegetarian, they have a lot of great options but my favorites are the Dahl Makhani and the Vegetable Jalfrezi. The naan is always fresh and the chai is spicy and inviting.

Due to circumstances, I always expect Indian Food to be cheaper unless drastically varies from the traditional: fusion cuisine and the like. The owners are actually from Europe (with an Indian background) so I dunno how really authentic their food is as I have not yet been to India.
