I used to love coming to this cafe, but yesterday I had a bad experience. The lady taking the order was short with me when I asked for "grande" instead of saying "16oz". After that she was just plain rude to my boyfriend and I. She was very robotic in her "have a nice day." The coffee was still good, but I didn't feel happy to be in there.
Always a great spot for morning joe. It's always crowded, yet you never have to wait long for your caffeine fix. Excellent, friendly service!
This coffee is strong and definately gets me going in the morning! Try the North Shore location as well!
They are now called Caffe Motivo. Their pastry chef makes amazing small delicacies. Sometimes it is very crowded and kinda noisy. Great coffee & great services
One of the best places in Kamloops to get an americano. The real hidden secret of this place is their baked goods. Best cake around.
Nice atmosphere and decor. Friendly staff. We stopped in for a coffee and sandwhich. I had the macaroni and cheese one, innovative, but it was still cold on the inside. Hard to warm it up on a panni grill I guess. We also had the breakfast burrito, that was tasty and hearty. The coffee is good, JJ roasts good stuff. Wish we had time to try dessert, they looked good. I wonder if they make them... more
Place is good... For Kamloops, it's probably one of the better options.
I think it's a REALLY reaching to say that it's on par with the best shops in Vancouver though. The desserts are spot-on and they have the right beans, but I dunno... Missed the mark somewhere. Maybe it was the technique of the baristas on the few occasions I stopped in?
I definitely can't put them on the same level as JJ...

So glad to have the reviews on this. Thanks yelpers.
A great little funky coffee+ shop in downtown. I had a latte and chorizo wrap for breakfast during a business trip. Both were tremendous. The line up AFTER I arrived indicates that is NOT a HIDDEN gem.
They use JJ Beans and vary the blend used based the drink made. They used Eastside in mine. I prefer the Espresso JJ but won't hold that...

This is a must visit. The coffee is amazing and the quality of the food is on level with the Quality of the coffee. And the staff provides a friendly hipster-without-pretense. My partner insists we visit every time we are in Kamloops. Perhaps the best cafe in Western Canada.
This isn't just the best coffee place in Kamloops... I'm from Vancouver where there is "fancy" coffee on literally every block and this place beats anywhere I've been hands down.
Iw was there for breakfast and the southwest breakfast wrap blew my mind.
If you're on kamloops and you like coffee or food, go here. Seriously, do it.
This is by far the best place in town to pick up a delicious cake (single portion, or larger sizes). It's not the classic spongy, north american cake style, but much more refined - closer to a french pâtisserie, with delicate mousse, fruit, praliné and wonderful layers. Cakes change all the time, but are consistently excellent. There are a few... more
I will visit this coffee shop and the one in the student building at TRU... There is nowhere else in Kamloops to get decent coffee... And it's family owned and operated. Very nice to see the whole family working on a weekend. These people deserve all the credit there is and every bit of support a community could offer.
This cafe has wonderful hot sandwiches, delicious desserts & great latte's & coffee. Everything looks like it's made with an eye to detail & quality ingredients. Good staff. You can tell that the cafe has it's loyal regulars & that adds to a warm atmosphere. I see that Motivo Cafe also has a smaller version in the Kamloops hospital on... more
Shocked to find a great brunch at this little modest caffe. Friendly staff and a replay of the Gold Medal game on the TV. What a treat.
Honestly, the reason we tried this place is because it was one of the few places open on a Sunday. But we were not disappointed. My boyfriend had an Americano and I had a London Fog - both great. They are very serious about their coffee there, and you can see they take care in their preparation. We had already... more
This place is now called Motivo and is very much worth the trip off the highway into the heart of downtown Kamloops. One of the best lattes we have ever had. In fact I made a special trip back into the restaurant to let them know. Their desserts are made in house and are very tasty. Tack another 10 minutes... more
I had to return to Kamloops twice in June and I made a point of going to Caffe Motivo each time. The coffee is definitely a cut above the rest of the coffee scene in Kamloops. Stocking quality roasters and fresh coffee, definitely notice a difference in the cup. Also, allows to pick up freshly roasted beans for home use... more
great cappuccinos. Each time i go, the barista making my coffee seems to make it slightly different, which i love. Happy to experience real baristas and their signatures. They obviously have great beans to start with cause I haven't had a burnt or bitter experience yet. No gut rotting which is really appreciated as I'm grabbing a cup for the... more
The newly renamed "Cafe Motiva" is independently owned and managed. There is the same loyal crowd, seldom a free table. Free newspapers to borrow. Top-quality, wide variety of coffees and other drinks. New focus on fresh baked muffins, squares, scones...and lunch items..
The service was good and the coffee strong. I like to add a little extra cream to mine to add to the overall flavor. If you want something a little different than starbucks with a good punch try cowboy coffee, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Motivo consistently makes the best espresso beverages in Kamloops. I am always very satisfied with the quality of the drinks, food, and service I get there.
I usually order ua sugar free caramel latte (Motivo is one of the only places that uses sugar free syrups that are pleasant to taste), an americano, or a seasonal selection. The foam on the lattes is always perfect.
The wonderful people...

The espresso here is on a level with the best coffee shops in Canada. The ONLY place between Calgary and Vancouver where you can get a 'real' espresso for a world class barista.
Nice urban coffee shop feel in down town Kamloops. Glad I found this place. I can't wait to get back and try more of their items. The food looks amazing as well.
Rating 8.5/10, considering I am a harsh reviewer this is for a sensational cup of coffee I had, didn't try the food, for me anyone that does a good coffee should do decent food. Highly highly recommended
This is now Caffe Motivo, but Ian and Jesse are still running it and still serving great coffee. They now have French pastries created by a trained patissiere: it is as good as you'll find anywhere. Plus, the atmosphere is great.
Whenever we are in a town or city, we look for "that place" -- a local coffee place that has good lattes, some imaginative food selections (baking, sandwiches, salads), often in the context of good music and decor. Basically, quality and character which distinguishes it from the chains that you can find anyplace. We stumbled on Caffe Motivo on a... more
THis is by far the worse place you can get a coffee. I would rather make my own using my car engine to make the coffee Just disgusting!
Love visiting the coffee shop! Friendly owners along with great drinks. They esteem themselves on serving premium beans and they take the time to do it right. Love paring a panini with the soup of the day in the afternoon. (Not to mention their desserts are divine!! Both presentable AND delicious).
A nice place if you want to have a great coffee or whatever your preference is, and it's a nice place to consume it.
These guys know what they are doing. Consistently excellent espresso. Great food. Next stage, they should be roasting their own.
great coffee house atmosphere, tasty snacks, good coffee, good parking, a really good local coffee house
The best cappuccino I've had this side of Europe. The beans are fresh and full of flavour. If I can't have a Cafe Motivo, I'll go without!
I'm a huge coffee snob. No, seriously. I was on Intelligentsia in 2002. When that got too big, I was on to Stumptown in 2005. Now that Stumptown has sold out to Vitamin Water, I'm on to the next big thing, either Gorilla or Vivace or whatever. I own not one, but two Quickmill Anita E61 machines. It's an absolute... more
Great Breakfast wraps and the coffee is pretty darn good too. Nice staff. It's nice to sip your coffee, sit by the window and people watch.
