Meet the Business Owner
Jay T. Jay T. Business Owner
Our family has owned and operated Morty's Pub in Waterloo since 1981.
I don't understand why people hype up the wings here. They are seriously suspiciously HUGE. The batter is too thick and they just splash the sauce on afterwards. The batter is not crispy and the wing is too meaty. Because of its unbelievably abnormally gigantic size the center is always bland. Nothing special about the wings at all.
If you want good wings. Mind blowing wings. The perfect size...

Last night I received cold wings and even though they were taken and heated, they really did taste and feel like they'd been sitting out for a while. Really felt let down last night.
I'll probably give it another shot in a month, though.
The wings are alright, but the service just kills it for me. The servers are mediocre at best, though the owner is quite nice. Price is really good on Monday & Thursdays, only 89 cents each for a wing with the purchase of a beverage. It's super busy on wing nights though, so you should expect to wait for a long time.
I would recommend the suicide flavoured wings. I also had the burger special...

When you think about weeknights in College/University you think of a few things, pubs and pub with your friends, maybe watching sports, playing some poker, and if your ambitious, maybe tossing back a few pitchers (or a few too many pitchers) of beer and then negotiating with your god the next morning about giving you the strength to get up for class that day. I'm definitely "not" speaking from... more
Back when i was in Waterloo for school, i LOVED their half price wing nights! Their chicken wings are MASSIVE and i always get honey garlic. Those were the days where students benefitted from those nights and they had a few TVs on to watch the games that were on for the night.
Great service - the staff are always super friendly and very attentive. The food is great and well priced, highly recommend it!
I had to wait 20 minutes for a table late on a Monday night. I was able to get a drink at the bar which made the wait bare-able. I had the spicy butter wings which was huge but too much sauce. Non the less, very tasty.
The service wasn't bad as other reviews say but I'm guessing it's because the rush was finally gone as I was seated.
Simply three words: Thursday Night Wings. The wings are crispy battered. So watch out Keto dieters. The dry Cajun seasonings is the bomb. Less messy more flavor. Their collection on the tap not bad either. Plus one for the eye candy, extra nice waiters
Wings, wings, wings.
Best wings I've had in Waterloo so far. On Mondays and Thursdays, they are 89cents each with a purchase of a drink. A bit more expensive then other places, but the size each wing makes up for it. A service is only average though, as I've had a few times where it took a long time to get someone to take our order. Like other people mentioned, takeout is $1.
Would recommend...

Wings are ok nothing special. Not a bad deal on Monday's and Thursday's except they rip you off on Pop refills. No free refills on those days and also if you go with 8 people or more it HAS to be paid all on one bill without splitting the payment and with an automatic 15% gratuity added on. Basically one person has to pay it all and get cash from everyone. Personally won't go back for those 2... more
After McGinnis shut down, this seemed like the only reasonably priced sports bar near the universities. The speed of food preparation has picked up a bit and the service has definitely gotten better, though sometimes food still takes 15+ min to arrive. The Monday & Thurs Wings nights are great deals and do get busy. I still feel like the basement level is pretty old and needing an improvement,... more
A Must-Eat for wing lovers, especially on Mondays and Thursdays. If that's your plan I would recommend going EARLY, as it fills up fast. Also, I would recommend dry Cajun, even if you're used to saucy wings.
Went again and the service was good this time. Didn't see the waitress from last time (thankfully). Wings were good as ever.
Wing night is a great night to visit Morty's. Make sure you go early, because otherwise you'll have to wait quite a while for a seat. Parking is nearly non-existent, so your best bet is to walk/bus or try street parking.
The wings are large. There are several different flavours of wings, but I'm always left wishing they had some interesting flavours to keep it different everytime I vist. I...

It's smaller than it looks, and nearly always crowded. I was told that the wings were epically huge but they looked just standard sized to me. Reasonably cheap at 69 cents, washed down with some decent beer. Hard to go wrong. Great atmosphere and vibe to hang out in with some friends. Service was ok, nothing special. I don't think I would make a special trip just to eat here though.
Best wings in waterloo. Be sure that your friends are present when you go line up, otherwise they won't put you in the list.
Just go on wing night (monday or thursday)! Can't beat the price and the quality of the wings. Favourite would have to be dry cajun wings. Also had the fries which is just way undercooked and soggy. I wouldn't recommend the veggie sticks either since they give just 3-5 pieces. And don't expect much for service. The waitresses I've had the handful of times I've been there were ice cold. I don't... more
their wings are very tasty, and i like to come during half-price wings day.
Great food, great service, great ambience!
If you're in Waterloo, this is a MUST TRY place!
Their wings are one of the best available in Waterloo, their burgers (specials on Sundays) are amazing as well, and surprisingly, even their pizza and panzo are very rich and tasty too! (It doesn't dry up after a day in the fridge!)
Bar selection is pretty standard and generic, but overall, a good night...

If you like chicken wings nobody does it better than morty's. Their traditional or dry cajun are the best - large and meaty. Staff is always really friendly. Try to get on the patio for a Friday afternoon lunch.
Six of us came for wings on a Thursday night. I had 5 BBQ and 5 Buttery Hot and all were a fair size. Unfortunately, both had a strong odour of vinegar that made me have to hold my breath while biting into them in order not to start coughing. I don't know if this is part of the seasoning... more
Wing nights are usually the time I visit Morty's Pub. They have a 69 cent/wing with a purchase of any drink item deal on Monday and Thursday nights. Their service is always fast and friendly. Also, the wings are pretty tasty and big too! One of the biggest chicken wings I have seen (ever).
I go to Morty's on a regular basis. Their food and service always brings me back.
Wings are so.so. Wings are medium sized. Pricey place. Great patio in the summer. Great place to meet people ... On the patio.
The food in General is adequate
I have been to morty's once before in the summer, sat on the patio, ordered fish and chips. it was great! but my recent visit has me questioning if i'll want to return. FINALLY tried Morty's infamous chicken wings.. have always been told they are the best in KW. they were not. i got honey garlic and the sauce was... more
Biggest and best wings in Waterloo. Good service, friendly, and huge wings with great pizza too. Morty's has been around forever and with good reason. Service is friendly and prompt, food is consistently good, and lots of TV's for viewing lots of different events. Like the fact that someone always asks if the food and service is meeting expectations.
Morty's is a great place for average beer, and good to very good pub fair, and is at least locally owned and operated I believe, which is a plus. Lots of TVs, and pretty casual.
The only issue I have with this place is that they appear to cater a bit to much to the locals and regulars. Everytime I...

I love chicken wings. Morty's has the best in town. They are huge and always perfectly cooked. They have a coating that enhance the flavour. There are a variety of coatings you can get - dry cajun with hot sauce on the side are amazing. The fries are also delightful. All in all you will not be disappointed with Morty's.
Live up to their bragging rights- BEST WINGS IN K/W. The 1 pound order was only 6 wings, but they're huge and did the job. I ordered the wet Cajun, not spicy but very tasty! I got suicide sauce to dip for the heat. Didn't have the fries but they're home cooked and look amazing. Next time!!! They have lots of screens, and immediately put on the Buffalo Sabres game for me. Prices are fair, and... more
As a sports pub, I expected a better beer selection, but the wings here are top notch. The atmosphere is very good with lots of tvs with seemingly every game on. The beer selection was a bit lacking with few craft beers and mostly garden variety lagers. The prices are good though, what you would expect in a college town.... more
The staff! The beers! The wings! Need I say more? Mortys is my go to after sports pub. You will always see a familiar face, always served a cold beer, and always greeted by the welcoming staff. The atmosphere can do no wrong.
I have been going to Morty's since I was a little girl - when Morty actually ran the place and it was a little hole in the wall! You can't go wrong when you're here, this place is amazing.
Everyone days the wings are good, and they are by far the best I have ever had, but the panzerotti is soooo good. The sauce is outstanding! If you're in the area and have never been, it's a must. If you're...

There was a period when I almost gave up on Morty's. It was around the time when their wings got increasingly humongous and were not only triple-coated in greasy batter but flavorless and dry inside.
It managed to redeem itself this past visit. They are now a bit smaller than before, but then they are a lot more tender and the flavors actually soak into the meat. I prefer the latter despite...

Two words: Morty's sucks! Last time I went to Morty's, I ordered the "Naked Wings" off their menu. I was expecting since that's what they call them, there would be no confusion... I was wrong! As food was later delivered by the bobblehead waitress, my wings were breaded, not naked. The waitress proceeds to ask if I can just eat them... uh, no thanks! So, after she reluctantly reorders my food,... more
I came on the night that they had a wing special (79 cents each with the purchase of a drink) with a couple of my friends who had told me that they had the best wings in town. Excited, I got 8 honey garlic wings and started to chow down, and wow, was I disappointed. Not sure if I came on a particularly bad day, but I was expecting something out of this world. The wings were huge, like everyone... more
Try them....you will agree! Large and plump, crunchy coating, yummy! Had a side salad that was lovely and fresh. Loads of beer choices. Walls are plastered with TVs playing a gazillion sports. Good for the guys, but the food will make the gals happy, too.
I dont typically eat at pubs, but for the longest time ive heard "Morty's has the best wings" so i figured i should find out for myself, oddly though i didnt even try the wings lol! i ended up getting the fish and chips and i was surprised the portion was huge! Everything was delicious and even though it was... more
Love their wings... they are wonderful! Dry cajun are to die for. I used to order take out from here at least twice a month, HOWEVER... they have drastically increased their prices in the last month. For the party platter of wings, my total bill used to be $31. It is now $37. Staff are pretty cagey about it but I guess the owners feel business is good enough to pass this on.
Wings are good but I think Wild Wings are better. Recent price increases and no debit machine leads me to be more inclined to visit other wing places now. Service hit or miss.... agreed with earlier reviewer .
Wings Wings Wings. Don't order anything else here except the award winning wings, they are THAT good.
Crispy, crunchy wings without too thick of a batter to make it unbearable - and lots of different flavourings (like sweet chilli lime and dry cajun) to make your mouth water.
However, I believe the Dry Cajun especially was MSG laden - I could still feel and taste it into dinnertime after...

An associate of mine, who lives in the KW area, took me there on a Thursday night and bragged about their great wings. They were amazing, huge and cooked to my specs. I usually can eat 10 to 12, but I only ordered 6 on his recommendation. (79 cents each). By the way, the beer was ice cold and the... more
Was introduced to this spot for wing night and wow, the wings were amazing. I'm from Halifax where well over 45 restaurants serve wings and I have to say, these wings rank amongst the top 5 I've ever eaten. Thick, juicy, meaty, not over cooked and swimming in sauce. Oh, drinks were good too and staff was great. Atmosphere was... more
The food is always good at Mortys. However, the service is a hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get a really good waitress, other times, you'll get an aloof one. It doesn't matter to me since I go for the food so if the service sucks that day, I just lower the tip I give. Their buffalo fingers are amazing!
This has become my choice for a place to go with friends on a Friday. The wings are good, as are the nachos. The other bar food is unremarkable, but I don't expend much for breaded 'rooms or moza sticks. Most "ordinary" beer - but who complains on a hot summer afternoon with good friends. The staff are attentive and... more
My friend Sanjiv's suggestion
Ordered soup of the day, Broccoli cheese, it was excellent
Ordered the Caesar salad, lots of bacon and large, tasty
Wings were the best I have ever has, crispy, tasty, great temperature, fresh
Well done, I will be back
! recommend Morty's - the wings are to die for! It is a great place with an excellent atmosphere and the patio is great to hang out for an afternoon.
we went there to eat after work and the food was not good, ordered fish and chips really oilly
the wings were not good at all who said they had good wings, overly processed, very pricey, the mozarella sticks processed. would not recommend this place to anyone.
You need to try the huge, delicious wings here. Best wings in town
The wings here are great, and on wing night the price is unbeatable. The fries are also pretty good! Get there early to avoid lines though, especially when there's a hockey game. Never agree to be seated in the plastic lawn chairs in the awful basement!
Best wings in town. Great food. Friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended. Not the best area of town for parking though.
went to morty's for first time in may 2013...after being at another restaurant with bad service and no wi-fi..this place was a pleasant surprize...EXCELLENT service - fast wi-fi..free parking...very clean and staff incredibly attentive...menu is reasonable, not like many in the area. VERY close to laurier university... more
This is a real nice pub. People rave about the chicken wings so we thought we would check it out. The wings were a good size and really well prepared. Not too much breading. But I was really disappointed with the super suicide sauce though, it wasn't nearly as hot as i was hoping. The sauce aside the service was excellent. We will be back again when we are in the area
Their chickens would definitely be disqualified from the Olympics for steroids. The thing was the size of Ben Johnson's head.
When I saw the price tag of over $10 for 6 wings with no sides, I thought these better be the best dang wings or biggest ones I've ever had... and well.. they found some kind of monster chickens.
I mean, I wouldn't want to run into this thing in a dark alley. And the...

Great food and service, The girls serving are friendly, eye pleasing, hospitable. The food is great no matter what yah eat!
My wife and I have found the wings at Morty's to be excellent. Our problem is that it is a Pub Atmosphere and the parking is minimal. They have a special on wings on Thursday..but only if you eat in..and purchase beverages. I realize that this is to get people in and for them to make money..but not so sure... more
Biggest wings. Only go on wings night since cheap otherwise too expensive. Very big and tasty wings especially dry Cajun
I've been going to Morty's for years. The food is great and so is the staff. I can't say I've ever been disappointed.
Morty's is a local bar, not far from Waterloo University. The beers are standard but good, and the staff is friendly and attentive.
Morty's has the best wings in town. On Wenesdays is the wing special, make sure you go! In the summer, they have one of the nicest patios around. If you don't mind sharing space with a whole bunch of University students, I'd recommend Morty's
Monday and Wednesday is wing night. The best there is. They have great burgers and other pub fare. It is always busy and loud, but that is the charm of the place. Mixed crowd of students and families.
Serious contender for best wings in town. I've been a bunch of times and have had consistant, speedy service. Highly recommended!
Like most guys I like my wings and in the Kitchener Waterloo area, Morty's is the place to go! Boasting one of the best patios in the city (weather permitting), Morty's beckons you from the main street in town not far from their world famous universities! Parking is limited so you may have to use side streets but when you... more
hmmm debatably one of the best wing places to go in the k-w region. The service is a hit & miss although they're always friendly they're not as attentive to detail as they should be
The BEST WINGS in area! Burgers are great too.Easy going relaxed atmosphere, Lots of tvs to follow sports, if that`s your thinng.
Was brought here recently, if you want large and tasty wings, this is the place to go. they have good food, great deals, but is popular with the University Crowd, so get their early so you don't have to wait around for a seat.
Morty's used to be a weekly stop in for me before I moved away. As I just moved back I had to check in again. Conveniently it was a Thursday (wing night).
Atmosphere is wonderful - its still familiar which I like. The menu has changed but I believe the food is still good. They are said to have the best wings in town - I am not a fan of their wings - but if your into wings this is your place.

Their wings are giant and taste wonderful. The only downside is that its impossible to get a table on wing nights
Thursday Wing and Sunday Burger Special Nights are the things that make Morty's ahead of the pack for the sport bars in Waterloo.
Wings are gargantuan and come in a variety of flavours. The burger is a tasty 10oz with all the fixings. Both specials need the purchase of a drink.
If you are coming on a Thursday, be sure to come ahead of time. By the time dinner comes, the place will be packed...

Mortys uses wings from roaster chickens, so they're really big. My favourite is the dry Cajun. They have a patio out front for the summer. If the parking lot is full and you park on Regina St behind, watch out for the no parking areas. You will get a ticket.
Excellent service from the kitchen staff who came out to discuss our allergy concerns and even called up one of their suppliers to confirm the ingredients. And best of all, the food was allegen-free, as promised!
And as a bonus, the burgers were delicious. (and way too big .. I totally over-ate)
Will definitely be returning in the future.
Nice spot to enjoy beer and wings while watching the game. Good assortment of beer on tap, food is good and lots of TV's to catch the game.
Not a huge amount of flavours, but damn good wings (and they're massive). Mondays and Thursdays are cheap wing night, but expect it to be very busy after 6pm. Prices are average.
The wings are big comparing to other local wing places, but there is not much else to go for. I rather drive more to visit other restaurants that are farther away.
Great spot to enjoy a pint and watch the game. The chicken wings are outstanding and they are 1/2 price Monday and Thursday after 5.
Not sue why this is priced the same as Sole??? Anyway, love the wings. Pizza is good. Great for eating in or take out.
Excellent service, and exceptional service. Definitely will go back, atmosphere is great, try the deep fried pickles!
There's no better way to start the last long weekend in the summer than a visit to Morty's in Waterloo, ON. I've been going there for nearly 20 years -- helped Morty on his campaign to be the Mayor of Waterloo -- and when it was located in a much smaller location.
Morty's son Jay has been running the restaurant...

looking for a pleasant atmosphere for finger food / pub grub...this is the place to go - friendly service and a good selection on the menu - something for everyone. Good mix of the younger crowd and those of us old enough to be their parents!
We went for the first time a month ago. Kept hearing about how great the wings were at Morty's.
Honestly, they were huge (not to my taste - I always find huge wings kind of tough and strange tasting) I personally prefer Wild Wings - they have 100 flavours and are nicer to eat.
Atmosphere and service were just okay....

Wings here are amazing- huge, crispy, saucy- just delicious! My faves are the sweet chili and the buttery hot (my mouth is watering just thinking about them). And the spinach and artichoke dip is scrumptuous. I took a star off for the service. It's never been great service- the waitresses are usually rushed and twice they've been outright rude (but that's not a bad ratio considering I've been... more
Morty's is a great restaurant & bar. We loved the wings & all dressed fries.
Had lunch at Morty's last week... and it had been awhile since my last visit. The chicken wings are still arguably the best in Waterloo! The service was excellent. Morty's is close to Wilfrid Laurier University, so there can be a youthful crowd in there from time to time. Always a few games to watch on the many TV screens,... more
A place I like to call home. Staff is great. Friendly, always smiling and GREAT service. I've had nothing but good luck since coming almost 2 years ago.
Great wings! Good people! Nice atmosphere! I would recommend it to anyone in town.
I probably don't have to say this because every other yelper before me has but the wings here are AMAZING. Best wings in Waterloo for sure, but if you're feeling daring and opt for anything else you're in luck because everything I've ever had here was awesome. If you want to try an app though you have to try the antojitos and/or the pierogies, they are both some of the best I have ever had.

Thursday Wings Night is where it's at!
I also completely agree with the comments listed, their wings are the best in KW, even better than Wild Wing, Crabby Joe's, etc.
Warning though: This place is VERY popular amongst university students, and if you're arriving in game nights, Thursday nights, or weekends you're almost guaranteed a wait.
gave them one more chance....last time....wings have funny after taste....they are only so large because of double breading....strip the breading off and you have average size wings....nothing to write home about....and the killer is, they charge you $1.00 for a carry out styrofoam box for leftovers....really?????.....overrated and mostly because of university students looking for cheap... more
We had a wonderful time watching both the basketball and hockey playoffs. The wings were excellent as always and the pizza, which I tried for the first time was fantastic. Kate the manager made us feel at home. A Waterloo landmark, we love this joint.
Morty's is known for wings, but we really didn't like them at all. They tasted overwhelmingly of vinegar. I have never tasted wings like that. When we commented to the server, just a shrug and no comment. Never went back.
well if you want the best wings you have to go here. Good prices and now that they moved down the street more room too.
It's a pub.. noisy, cowded, cold beer great wings..
The atmosphere is perfect, food is great and staff very friendly and professional.
This place is wonderful for chilling with a cold beer! highly recommended.
The wings are horrible...ignore what everyone else has written. Basically their hot and suicide wings aren't hot at all...just incredible sour. and the waitresses are alright looking...but not anything to drool over. The only thing good about this place that i can testify to is the burgers...which are very good.
Legendary wings served by great looking female waitstaff
Best wings. Monday and Thursday are wings nights. Don't miss them.
The wings are hard to beat. Generous portions. The place is always busy.
