At Miku, we are proud to be the pioneers of Aburi sushi in Canada. Aburi, or flamed-seared sushi, was developed nearly a century ago in Japan. The act of applying fire directly and lightly searing the seafood on top of the shari (sushi rice) enhances its natural flavours while creating new textures, resulting in a new and exciting culinary experience. We have taken Aburi to the...

For a city that prides itself on sushi, finding a downtown spot that doesn't serve it's wares in a styrofoam box can be a bit of a trick. Miku makes it bones with aburi sushi, where the seafood is lightly seared with a blowtorch. The traditional sushi offerings use the same top-quality fish and are excellent. It's not inexpensive, for food or drinks, but they have both Sapporo and Asahi on tap... more
I love this place! The food is amazing and their salmon oshi sushi is incredible, a must if you go here. The restaurant is bright and full of natural light, and not crowded at all. The staff are happy and friendly and going here is always a pleasant and happy experience.
Came on a weekend evening with reservation and ended up waiting around 10 minutes. The hostess walking us in did not acknowledge us for waiting even though we made a reservation and still had to wait. She walked around the entrance yelling out my name and didn't say anything to us or smile.
Our server was very friendly, but was not attentive. She came to our table within the first 5 minutes...

first time tried Aburi and I was in love!! from the freshness of fish to the flavor and perfect bite size. It was a great experience overall! there are also exotic Japanese fish that you can check if it is in season if you want to try. Even the waiter and bartender is super since and helpful! great Job Miku! You live up to your reputation
I made a reservation on Yelp a few days before and was seated immediately. The atmosphere and service within Miku are top notch and the staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful.
I order the salmon oshi sushi and also the Red Wave Roll. The salmon oshi sushi is really popular and I must say the seared salmon flavor certainly lives up to the hype. It has a deep and rich flavor that I...

ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE. We were seated by the water so it was a great view while enjoying our lunch. Everything was super fresh. Took my parents and my in laws for dinner for our last night in Vancouver, it was a pricey dinner but totally worth it. We got the summer kaisen kaiseki set. Overall in one sentence, "the flavors blew my mind and opened my palate to another layer of senses".

Stopped in for our 1 year anniversary dinner. Waited half hour past reservation. Waitress was slow to get to table. Asked for more water and she was slow on that too. There's no real middle with Miku.
The atmosphere & setting is beautiful. And we had a lovely view of the bay. The presentation of the food was lovely as well. But the sushi was a little bland. I know it's fine dinning, but the serving sizes do not justify the pricing. And our waitress seemed to forget about us at times.
This is a big restaurant! Nice view of the giant cruise ship and water. Food is very good and great service. We got the 10th anniversary menu and it was very good amount of food! Good quality fish for sushi and the rectangle nigiri is quite fun to eat. Dessert was very good too, tho a bit pricey for the tiny little thing. There's parking right next to the restaurant so very convenient. There's... more
Top quality, touristy-with potential for varied experience.
Flying to Vancouver, the person next to me had reservations at Miku for multiple nights. It has that reputation.

Contrary to the reviews, I didn't think this place was all that expensive! We had reservations here for a Saturday afternoon and even with a reservation, it still took a while to get our table ready. We didn't really mind--it just meant that it's a popular place!

Excellent sushi, great service. We were visiting Vancouver from Calgary and were referred here by a colleague. We requested a seat with a view and were given just that! Definitely will be back at future visits.
I am sorry for such a harsh rating. I think my expectations for Miku were way too high. I was told this is the absolutely best sushi restaurant in Vancouver by few friends. I was expecting a "wow" experience instead of disappointments.

I really love Miku. The room, the food, the staff.
Always a wonderful experience. The dishes are oozing with freshness. Creative drinks and top notch service. Love love love
I'm really pleased with Miku.
They've managed to capture a niche in the market place that I really appreciate, and you find in other parts of the world, but not necessarily often in Canada. There's always been a challenge in being able to find good sushi joint (that's not a 10 person seater), at a place that you can comfortably spend hours drinking and eating at.

One of the best dining experiences I've had, our server (Lenny?) was superb. He knew the menu very well and gave us great recommendations.
All of the rolls we ate were also amazing, the temperature, texture, and taste of each roll and sashimi was perfect. There was great quality to price ratio, surpsingly cheaper than expected.

Miku was highly recommended by friends who have visited as well as Yelp as it was the #1 choice when I typed in sushi for Vancouver. My friends and I came from California to visit Vancouver and constantly heard about all the amazing sushi there is. So I knew I had to try the best joint around.
The verdict? It was absolutely splendid and I'm so glad we made the visit.

Unique offerings is what should entice you to at least try this establishment out once while in Vancouver.

Overlooking Vancouver's gorgeous waterfront and offering gourmet Aburi cuisine, Miku is my top choice for oshizushi. Priced at $18 for 6 pieces, the quality and flavours you get are reflected in the price. My personal favorite was the ebi oshi sushi with pressed prawns, lime zest, and ume sauce. I'd also recommend making a reservation a couple days beforehand since they do get very busy.
In brief: Great salmon aburi. Phenomenal service.
I love this place. It's a go to if you are traveling. My wife and I ordered the lunch platter and the premium platter and an order of the salmon aburi. WE WERE HUNGRY. We just came from the Capilano bridge. The salmon aburi is a must. The sushi melts in your mouth. Affordably priced. Definitely coming back when we are back in Van City
I finally got to try their famed Aburi Torched sushi and ordered take-out for their salmon & ebi oshisushi.
For $34 I got 6 pieces of salmon and 6 pieces of ebi. I really appreciated the freshly grated wasabi that it came with. It all tasted very yummy, with the torched flavour and great ingredients. BUT the texture was not as melt in my mouth as I expected...maybe due to the fact that it was...

Inventive sushi and overlooking Canada Place. Especially like their flame-seared sushi. And it was light on the pocket book as well. What else can you ask for?
I will definitely be returning to Miku! Excellently presented dishes which tasted divine. This is the best Japanese restaurant I have been to in Vancouver!
The reception was not very organised. I wanted to change my table fm outdoor to indoor, but, the reception did not seem to recognise me. She greeted me just 2 mins ago. I was phoned 30 mins after my dinner started, asking if I still wanted my table. Other than these, food is good!
Went to Miku for the first time. Service was great, food was great and view was great. The price is a little high for sushi but the food was well worth the price. Service and knowledgeable of food offered in the menu are two of the most important things I look for when dining. Your service was great - waitress was attentive to our needs and she was very knowledgeable and recommended a few items. Miku has very modern decor. Awesome scenic view right by the water. Service was great and attentive. We had the Miku Zen. It's like a tasting menu. Every item tasted wonderful. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants to try first class Japanese cuisine.
Initially, we thought the service was slow as we they didn't take our drink order. However, the restaurant made up for it quickly after that. We went here for our anniversary. The food was amazing. The only downsides were that our server wasn't totally on track with keeping our drinks paced with our meal. My only negative comment is that the noise level in this restaurant prevented normal conversation. Food was great, so if you don't care about talking to those you are eating with or hearing waitress descriptions of the dishes, go for it!
The sushi style - flamed - also involves involves a sauce applied to the fish -- which, unfortunately, masks any flavor the fish itself had. Other than that, Miku is quite enjoyable!

Even for Japanese, Miku's sushi taste was excellent.
Overpriced for no better quality than the norm. The cost is for the location and the decor. Service was outstanding. Nothing inspired me to return.
Food was generally good, though the seafood platter was disappointing for 78 dollars.. came with only 2 prawns, some oysters and clams and some pieces of sushi. Service could have been more attentive, often had empty drinks for quite some time before anyone noticed. OK, but expected more. Have had better experiences at Minami.
Came in from the prairies for a quick visit, had one shot at sushi while we were in town, so glad we chose Miku. The room was extremely loud, but the rest of the dining experience completely made up for it.
The aburi style sushi is amazing. My wife and I went here for our 25th anniversary and could not be more happy with the experience. The staff was incredibly friendly to boot.
great spot to eat for dinner on a nice date. We pretty much tried everything on the menu but they're known for their "Aburia"-style sushi which was definitely great. We knew this restraunt had $$$ price range, but looking at the menu we saw the rolls for $12 to about $20. I ordered the king roll which was very good, but only had four pieces. Four pieces, this explains the $$$ price range since you have to order at least two items to feel slighlty full. We didnt want... more
Being a resident of Vancouver, I've had the opportunity to visit Miku a few times, both at their old and new locations. Their new location is a definite hot spot in the summer time - ask for a spot on the patio and enjoy the ocean breeze and a the Vancouver harbour.
Their sake specialist is indeed a specialist -...

The sushi was inventive and tasty. Service was impeccable. The sakes were excellent. And the view...to die for.
The food was delicious. Our waiter served us "what they're known for," can't remember what it was called, but it was delicious. The hostess was rude though, we almost walked out after being seated. We went around 4pm... Reservations started at 5. 4 other groups in there (very large restaurant)... She said she could 'fit us in', but we'd have... more
Located right on the waterfront, this fantastic japanese restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Melt in your mouth sushi and an energy to be excited about, the moment I entered this establishment, I fell in love. Arriving to the sound of cheering chefs, the menu is extensive and food on delivery to your table looks amazing before you even begin.... more
Miku has lovely sushi, in a clean, modern setting. Everything was fresh, with good flavor combinations. Was there on a saturday night, and they were obviously overwhelmed as service was slow. Had both the aburi style and standard raw sushi - both were good (although I personally prefer more traditional raw). The server was able to easily direct me to... more
We had dinner here with friends last week. It was our second visit, but the first time at the new location.
I would agree with other reviewers that it is loud. The food, however, was very good. We had a lot of help from our waitress who asked us to put ourselves in her hands. We did, and she came...

Noisy and kitschy. Probably appeals to young people who have not enjoyed the experience of an authentic Japanese restaurant. The servers were like cats on a hot tin roof - all hustle and bustle but without achieving much. Food was OK. Will not be back.
Had a double date here with family. First time visitors. Definitely worthy of future visits on special occasions.
Drinks were creative, strong and yummy.
Plenty of reasonably priced vegetarian options.
My seafood loving family really enjoyed themselves with different types of rolls, sashimi, oysters etc.
A fun night had by all, made even better by the service and the view.
We preferred the old spot. The new one needs sound baffling - just could not hear one another within our group across the table. Good food, reasonable price
We had a variety of Sushi for our meal and it was all amazing. By far the best Sushi I have ever had. The Sushi was superior to Iron Chef Morimoto which I have had many times. The price quoted on trip advisor is $60.00 to $80.00 but you can fill up on excellent Sushi rolls for far less than... more
Recently enjoyed lunch here while attending an event at the trade and convention centre. Great location and atmosphere, attentive staff. Food was very good, excellent presentation and flavours were WOW! without anything being overpowering. Enjoyable, relaxing and look forward to another meal here.
I had lunch last weekend and kept thinking about it so much that I had to book another lunch with my husband for next week. As I was there during dine out Vancouver festival, I took advantage of the $28 dine out menu as it gave me a good opportunity to sample a few of their featured dishes. Everything was... more
Family of four (now even greater lovers of sushi) had lunch in this restaurant on the spur of the moment. Didn't have reservations but that didn't seem to be a problem and we got a nice table. Since one of us was has a gluten allergy we were conscious that this may be a problem in a sushi restaurant where... more
The menu is creative - the chef has added an amazing flare to Japanese food. A modern take on traditional food. The ingredients were fresh and incredibly tasty. The presentation on all dishes is outstanding. There were 8 of us in our party and none of us had been here before; everyone was over the top pleased with their meals... more
Fabulous food. Amazing watching the sushi chefs prepare the food. Staff are lovely. Great location. Would definitely go back
Know about this place long time ago but never had a chance to visit.
Went and tried over the Christmas holiday and it was amazing. Nice decor, friendly staff, yummy sushi. We ordered the Premium and Traditional sushi. Excellent.
Have been to Miku a number of times and have had great meals every time. They recently moved to their new location on the waterfront and I really like the space, including the koi motifs on the ceilings.. very kewl. Also kewl, is their menu. It has your clasic Japanese fare but they have brought in other influences into the... more
This Japanese restaurant specializes in aburi (seared on the outside while raw inside). There we visit to have some great ice cream as ice cream is the only dish in the world that everyone is fond off. We ordered our ice cream and enjoyed their Japanese atmosphere, which is really the impression of Japanese tradition and culture. When they bring... more
My wife and I tried this place while visiting Vancouver after finding it on tripadvisor. Glad me came here and it was so conveniently located right next to our hotel at the Pan Pacific. When we went the place was packed and very NOISY. We had a difficult time just hearing us talk, but I do like a place that... more
I'm not a connoisseur of Japanese food, but my meal at Miku was better than any sushi I've eaten. We were warmly welcomed by several staff members as we arrived and were shown to our table. The knowledgeable and friendly server described the various dishes and answered our questions about the menu. I ordered the "Zen" lunch, which consisted of... more
This restaurant was booked based on previous t/a reviews for my husbands 50th. They were very accommodating when making the reservation from Australia and were even able to bake a lactose free birthday cake for a small fee. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was buzzing and the view from our table, pretty. The restaurant, being very popular was very... more
After reading countless positive reviews we decided to visit this restaurant during our stay in Vancouver. The decor is modern and the service was top notch. The sushi was very fresh, serving a broad selection of local ingredients. The only gripe I have with this restaurant is the preparation. Found a very sharp (about 1 inch) fish bone in one... more
Stunning sushi, incredibly fresh sashimi, total mastery of fish in all its forms. I highly recommend sampling their Omakase or their Shokai menu (if you don't have time to give 72 hours notice for their Omakase), because it is a real delight to see the progression of flavours in each dish, and the contrast of textures between fish prepared in different ways. Their sablefish is to die for.
"""In a town awash with sushi, the aburi sushi stands out for its uniqueness. Gone is the soya sauce and neon green colored horseradish. In are individually paired sauces for each pressed nori sushi."""
Creative and uniquely prepared sushi. High ceilings make conversation tough. Borderline overly enthusiastic staff sometimes makes you feel a little uncomfortable.
"""Very good aburi style sushi, and a great selection of sake. Although, my fellow diners were perplexed by the arrival of a rack of lamb course during an omakase dinner."""
"""Upscale sushi, sushi chef greetings to announce your presence, salmon aburi to die for"""
"""Very young, trendy, noisy and BLUE!! Expect a long, long wait even if you have reservations, like an hour and a half. They're seared sushi/sashimi was a major disappointment after all the hype. I guess I like it cold and raw, half-way didn't cut it for m"""
Great introduction to sushi. Our waiter was very informative and had great recommendations. An entertaining but expensive evening
Service is fantastic, food is great and innovative, price is reasonabl.
"""Miku has excellent sushi, especially their aburi. Lunch specials are great too, grab the Miku Zen for a little of everything."""
Good - but a place that's trying to find out what it wants to be. Is it a sushi place? is it a grilled fish place? Is it a dessert place? Service was highlight of evening. One of those places that everyone should try once - and then probably decide that the hit on the wallet wasnt worth it and your neighborhood sushi chef is better than you thought. People waiting for reservations when we... more
The aburi sushi simply was ethereal. sashimi quality and quantity very good, too even tempura was good, which we typically do not like but it came with the omakase. it is very loud due to all the "yelling" and our sushi chef did not speak English enough so we could at least talk just a little bit. I'd go again but we'd spent over 400 for two with omakase and sake, so naturally you won't go... more
This is the first time we had aburri style sushi. We went back twice. The first time it was excellent the next time not so great. One of us was ill and they were very accommodating about bringing just some plain rice which was the best rice I ever had. Very kind and personable wait staff, unusual food, we prefer raw, but this was definitely an experience we were glad not to miss. A bit pricey.
If you like grilled sushi - this is the only place in Vancouver that I know of. Nice decor but quiet as it's located in a downtown office tower. Grilled chicken and yakitori items are savoury. Menu is pricey and you must like fish to appreciate it.
Aburi sushi is the best we've ever tasted and definitely the best artisan sake we've ever had. Great staff in professional, congenial, upbeat atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Pitiful food inconsistency. They talk a very big talk and do not deliver food to back the talk.
Sleek sushi eatery offers up innovative and locally sourced takes on beloved classics such as sashimi and nigiri. Specialties include lightly grilled Aburi sushi. Well-chosen wines and sake, too. $$. L/D (daily).
Miku Japanese Restaurant offers these services: restaurant.
We specialize in Aburi, or flamed-seared sushi, which was developed nearly a century ago in Japan. The act of applying fire directly and lightly sear is known to enhance the natural flavors of the fish. Miku owner, Seigo Nakamura, innovated the Aburi concept by creating speciality sauces, using non-traditional Japanese ingredients, to complement the unique taste properties of each fish. Miku... more
