For my first time in a formal sushi restaurant, I was highly impressed by the decor and menu choices.
My friends and I ordered a large boat of sushi and enjoyed every moment of our meal.
Looking forward to coming again!
My client took us to dinner tonight. I live in Vancouver where we are overrun by many awesome sushi restaurants. The service was friendly and fast anticipating our needs and not being a bother. The place was spotlessly clean. The sashimi was served fresh with shrimp heads. I tried their $ 27.00 lobster roll once again fabulous presentation and the... more
We sushi and salmon; nothing special, even boring vanilla. Prices seemed high.
This place used to be great. It is now going downhill. There are much better Japanese restaurants in Edmonton, sorry to say.
I had a bad experience at this restaurant 10 years ago, but thought I give them another try since my friends wanted picked this place for our annual get together. We booked a booth, and they messed up on our reservation and tried to give us a table, but didn't even apologize.
After we got our drinks, they told us...

The food is overpriced and tastes aweful. We will not return. Malted vinegar in the sunomono is just one example. The food overall was too salty & the rolls were soft rather than able to hold their form. Overall it was a huge disappointment.
I’ve been to Mikado so many times I couldn’t even count. This is by far the best sushi in Edmonton. The food is always fresh, on point with great flavour and quality and wonderful service to come along with it. I’ve never tried, or had a meal here that I’ve disliked. Being a sushi fanatic I was so pleased to... more
It is difficult to find a better Sushi place in Edmonton as aria2012 also claims.
The Sashimi is always top quality and well prepared. The presentation is excellent and a delight to eat. The service is prompt and always friendly.
I have had most things on the menu and nothing disappoints, however my favourite is the lunchtime Sashimi combo for...

The service is friendly, the chefs are entertaining and so talented, and the food is incomparable. The chirashi bowl is a fantastic deal, and the sashimi salad is a total winner. My favourite sushi place in Edmonton, bar none.
I tried to make a reservation for 2 but was told that I should just do a walk in as they would rather keep the tables for larger parties - last time we did a walk in we had to wait over 40 minutes - will have to find another shushi place to go to.
One of the best, maybe the best sushi in Edmonton. We used to go there fairly often. The service is good too, very friendly.
I hate sushi and all seafood, but went to this restaurant anyways with a group. I ordered the teriyaki chicken, for lack of any more appealing options. To my surprise it was SO GOOD!! Best teriyaki I have ever tasted! I would be happy to accompany sushi lovers to this restaurant again!
I like the food, and the customr service provided. The fod tastes good, and it is a great place to meet friends and family.
went for a Christmas party, terrible service, food was lackluster. I waited over a half an hour for a chair and a glass of water. the service was beyond bad!!!
Always a delightful experience with very friendly servers. The sashimi was excellent, the fresh oysters were excellent and the tempura was very good. The lobster roll is outstanding.
I just ate there tonight. The meal was enjoyable, good quality sushi, rolls, miso soup, and green tea ice cream. Very friendly staff. Prices were certainly not cheap but typical for quality sushi. Unfortunately I was done my meal for quite some time before being offered anything else, and then after I was done desert my credit card and the... more
this restaurant seems to have an envious reputation. I'm not sure why. The last two times we went the food was poor and the service was poor. Other places in the same area have far better service and food with far less rush.
very good sushi, pricing was fair, don't go for ambiance though. The service was decent, varied crowd. I miss the old location... more
Mikado's is the only restaurant in Edmonton that has the freshest sushi. The fish is fresh and the chefs are brought in from Japan. Truly an authentic Japanese restaurant.
I love this restaurant because the food is excellent along with the service. Eating here is an experience but your best to make a reservation if you want to get seated right away. It is a very busy restaurant but you can't blame them because everything is made fresh, grilled fresh and served fresh. You can also call them for... more
Will come back to try the rolls. We went for some combo boxes with excellent salmon and meat.
Need to double check with rolls next time.
Unhandy to stand up and go to the cashier if you pay with cards. No portable credit/debit devices...

I've been eating at Mikado Downtown for the last 5 years. It's easily become my favorite simply because of the quality of fish that they use in there sushi and shasimi. The fish is always fresh and flavorful. The menu is authentic Japanese and isn't to daunting to make choices from like many other competitors. Make sure to order the... more
Enjoyed the Sashimi, it was excellent, as well as the sushi
While eating at Mikados last night, the service was awful. The waitress took 6 minutes to acknowledge us (keep in mind, the restaurant was not busy at 6pm). After taking our order, she did not come back until the food which should have been hot, was cold. She never came to check on us until we asked for our bill.... more
so good, and also the lobster roll or other maki are very tasty... also their lunch bento boxes are good!
Our time in Edmonton was made better by discovering Mikado's. In our town, the Japanese restaurants are operated by non-Japanese; not that that diminishes their quality, but it's simply the authenticity factor. Mikado's has some fantastic delights and surprises. The presentation is a gift in itself, making the night more positive by the beauty of the food you're eating. This... more
This has been a favourite restaurant for us for the last decade. The food is authentic, delicious and reasonably priced. The service at all three locations is superb and the staff is always friendly and helpful.
Be sure to try the Dragon Eyes and the Sushi Pizza!!
Delicious food, good atmosphere, and you can get a private room for parties of 4 or more.
Lunch. Quick. Order. Food arrives. Oops, for 2/3 of us.
I wait almost 10 minutes more. Complications of a complex order? No, unexplained delay of a veggie Bento box on the Speedy Gotta Rush menu. 2/3 good is not good, and one yam tempura was mighty raw, hard as Hannah's heart. . Green salad was refreshed with misonnaise, avocado sushi...

Mikado is one of the established Japanese restaurants in Edmonton. It is owned by Japanese, not Chinese. The food is always good at Mikado.
By far the best sushi in edmonton. If you have more than two, try to reserve a room....its a neat experience.
Mikado has not failed since their opening. Quality has been consistent. Service is great and the prices are good! Lunchtime crowd can get a bit overwhelming. Recommended!
Five of us went here for dinner. Food was just o.k., service was good. With shoes off floor was very cold for those people with long legs whose feet reached the floor. Chicken teriyaki was a good dish. BBQ shrimp was very good.
I went with my colleagues to Mikado for lunch. One of them is from Japan and was asking me about restaurants in Edmonton that serve Japanese food so I suggested this place as I had heard good things but hadn't tried it. We were seated in a private area and all ordered bento boxes. I was impressed with the amount... more
This is a authentic real Japanese food even though it's little expensive. The service was also great.
The food is wonderful and the presentation too. The sushi is always super fresh. The price could be a bit high, but it worths.
Went here on a tuesday night and upon checking was told the service would be slow. so I understood this. I felt the Alaskan roll was not up to par. roll kinda fell apart. the Mesabi was very good. had ice tea which was fountain, i like brewed which i find odd at a Japanese restaurant. hubby had assume and... more
Although Edmonton has many Japanese Restaurants, it has few run and managed by Japanese people. This is one of them. Although you may find the occasional server or sushi chef who is not Japanese, they are strictly trained and have been coached in the Japanese way which is quality and presentation before the money greed factor. Mikado the first Japanese... more
i went here last year and the food is really good. i love their sushi rolls. yum! yum! =)
This place gets a lot of hype in Edmonton, and I don't understand why. I arrived at Mikado expecting an outstanding meal, understandably, and was disappointed. Nearly every piece of avocado in my dishes were brown...shocking for a sushi restaurant that must go through a ton of avocado each day. The Dragon Roll was really fantastic, but my other dishes... more
If you aren't a sushi lover stay away. Had the teriyaki chicken ( I know it's pretty boring) but it was by far the worst I've had. It was like 60% fat content and about 20 bucks. Tempura was okay but unmemorable. I've heard the sushi is decent but I can't speak from experience. I know Zen is great.
My absolutely favourite sushi place in all of Edmonton, not cheap but great quality. Cooked or uncooked it's all good!
Ok - we didnt make a reservation - but we got there early to avoid any issues. We were seated straight away and our orders were taken. The food arrived pretty promptly and it was VERY good. We have a vegetarian and a Meatasaurus in our group and both were satisfied. After we finished our meal - we waited for... more
I have been going to the Mikado since it was a little one room hole in the wall. My how she has flourished. This is real Sushi, not the fast food junk that has become so popular. Taste the difference quality makes.
We were craving sushi and for some reason all the other places we tried were closed that day. But I'm glad we found the Mikado - the rolls were excellent and beautifully presented and the teriyaki chicken was great, too. The avocado on top of the tempura shrimp roll was, to quote my friend, "like butter!" - we wanted to... more
get a tatami room for the whole experience. I've been going here for est. 35 years
Keep it out of the fry pan & enjoy the flavour.
One of the best Japanese resturants for me even though it used to taste fantastic and not just very good.
Excellent sushi and if you're lucky enough to be able to sit at the dining bar you can watch the chefs making everything.
My first sushi experience - the best! :)
downtown one is definitely better one of the better sushi places in edmonton for sures
My family patronized the South Edmonton Common location recently. To sum up in one word - "this place is Awesome!" Make sure to ask for a Tatami room when making reservations. Although you can still hear the loudmouth next to you through the rice paper walls, you don't have to look at them while you eat. The service is great, the food is excellent, even for fussy pre teen eaters. Dragon eyes... more
We visited the one on the southside...and it was the best Japanese cuisine we had ever had. We tried the Dragon Eyes for an appetizer, my boyfriend had the single oysters, and we both had Bento Boxes. The food was well-presented, the service was awesome, the decor is inspiring and everyone was pretty friendly. We sat at the counter, which we both enjoyed. Will definitely go back there again... more
We went to Mikado on the South Side (facing London Drugs in South Edm Common)same owner as the one downtown. The service is amazing, the food is to die for fresh, the price is decent but all in all an excellent restaurant. I can't rave enough about it. The tatami rooms are so beautiful. Clean lines, rice paper lights and the door actually closes giving you a really romantic and private dining... more
Great sushi, but the service is bad....sorry. Sometimes you have to wait 20 minutes before anyone comes to your table. We have gone many times, but it is always the same problem. Kat
With exquisite food and friendly service, Mikado is a local treasure for sushi and food lovers. Three locations in Edmonton.
Mikado Restaurant Ltd offers these services: grocery store, caterer, restaurant.
This was Edmonton´s first Japanese restaurant, and in its new (as of 1998) location, it continues to be a local favorite. The specialties are sushi and robata (grilled fish, meat, and vegetables). The Bento Boxes, which are black lacquered boxes filled with Japanese delights, are a popular lunch selection. The Mikado's own sushi pizza (on a rice crust) is highly recommended. Alberta's first Japanese restaurant, Mikado regularly turns up in first place on the local "Best of..." polls, and it's easy to see why. Bento boxes are wildly popular, with neatly compartmentalized portions of beef shogayaki, chicken yakitori, barbecued shrimp, salmon teriyaki, rice and salad. But the menu includes other traditional options as well as more modern inventions. The signature... more
