Okay, do yourself a favour and buy some of these buns. Seriously. The best coconut cream buns ever, I'm completely obsessed (all the other buns are excellent as well). Tiramisu is also really good. Best bakery in Kerrisdale!
I used to be a regular but I find that their breads aren't sweet enough for me. I just prefer sweet bread whenever I can get it, that means the dough itself is sweet. Their BBQ pork buns are good though, their tuna bun is bland, their egg tarts are a bit too heavy on the crust, super flaky crust overtakes the egg custard and their butter bread and raisin buns are just ok. Chicken pies are tasty.
Absolutely horrendous service. The first time I came here I used my VIP 10% off card and they told me that what i was purchasig didn't qualify for the discount. Of course there were no signs in the store or any indication of this on the card. I swore never to come back but then a friend gave me a $15 gift card and I happened to be in the area. Again there were no caveats or disclaimers on the... more
If you like Portugese egg tarts then this place has them, and mine was pretty good.
Someone said they were expensive but I think it was only like $1.50... but this one of those bakeries that just is a replica of a real French/European bakery, I think 3 is all I can give it, the pastry just wasn't quite there.
Places that don't accept credit cards,.. need more visits from the tax dept IMO.
The great...
The chestnut cake, while expensive was a work of art! Inside it was more chestnut pie than cake. A thin cake crust surrounding a thick nutty chestnut core. Simply outstanding!
The disappointing...
Slices of mango, tiramisu, & blueberry cake. Bland mousse surrounded by a thin layer of cake. Easily the blandest tiramisu ever. For $3+ per slice. After the chestnut cake...super...

Really delicious Asian pastries, breads, buns cakes. Your order will definitely be up to par but I warn you cake can get pretty pricey base on how many inch you order .. As much as $20 extra for every 2 inch extra. Very big and clean kitchen (I snuck in from the back once )
Awesome bbq pork buns because the filling is meaty and not pasty! Definitely recommend.
Also tried the red bean bun, although it was filled with red beans the bread itself was really oily- our brown bag soaked up so much of the oil!!
Lastly, tried the hot dog bun, can't go wrong with this choice! Delish.
Referred by a friend as I forgot to pick up a Mother's Day cake on the day! It was busy with people purchasing yummy baked items and cakes. There were many to choose from and I went with the chestnut cake. The presentation if the cake decoration was impressive as well the cake was delicious! The cake was soft and light.
I have been visiting them since they opened. Always high qualtiy HK / French style bake goods.
Can't beat the quality of their buns here..
For the typical BBQ pork bun, they have tons of meat inside as compare to other places.
The baked goods are usually sold out by end of day, so if you want to pick up their Coffee Sponge Cake (my fave), try to get here before 2pm. Some items they do make second batches so ask the server when the items you want is coming out.
We had their Mango Cakes...

These guys deserve a huge shout out.
I've eaten Asian pastries/desserts for my entire life. This is a standard HK style bakery with the usual items. That's where the similarities end.
First off, the ambience. It's NOT standard at all. The décor all over the walls shows a love for Europe, including travel books and classical music with references to Beethoven. Not only that, there is a picture...

The prices here are sooo expensive! The Portuguese egg tarts look right, the texture is right after you take it home and toast it a bit (it's cold and soggy at the bakery)... But the taste is just off. The custard is barely sweet and it leaves you wanting of something richer and sweeter after eating it. Just not a good egg tart. Anyone who has eaten a good Portuguese egg tart or even a good... more

Everything here is delicious. We've ordered multiple birthday cakes here yearly and theyre always exceptionally fresh and perfect.
Mango cake, chestnut, fruit, are several that we've tried.
I was surprised how busy it was on a Monday morning.
Prices are bit on the high side.
This shop is very nice and small, but also very popular. My wife loves the Portuguese, but I'm partial to the regular egg tarts themselves. I usually only buy the buns and cakes here and stay away from the pricier full cakes and bread. on a piece by piece purchase, this shop is more expensive than other bun shops (especially Richmond), but if you just want to walk in for food, you can't beat... more
An absolute stop every time I'm back in the hometown. Portuguese egg tarts, chestnut sponge cake, and BBQ pork buns are what I hand-carry back to the East Coast, and I have yet to find a local bakery that comes even close to these delicious pastries. For a slice of home, it's utterly worth the pains that I go through with TSA to bring these back with me.
Solid, much needed asian bakery in Kerrisdale.
Egg tarts are good, almost a bit portugese style but still prefer Lido's or New Town.
No doubt their cakes look delicious, saw Anna's equivalent of their Black Forest cake but much more expensive, as expected in this hood.
free street parking in the front.
no coffee sponge cake ;(
Always busy. Great for light desserts for a special occasion, whether it be tiramisu or blueberry "whip." (not quite a cheesecake, but similar).
Still for 4 very tiny pieces I paid almost $16. Not sure if I'd make it a regular stop since I could probably find better Tiramisu at Whole Foods and for a cheaper price (which isn't saying a whole lot). A small lovely cake started at $23. without...

I LOVE this place! My mom started buying the baked goods from here for me and my brothers when we were in elementary school and now that I'm a lot older, I'm still a loyal customer. Everything is done perfectly! And if there ever is something I don't particularly like, I find that it's only because of my personal preference; my friends or family will usually enjoy it.
Being born in Hong Kong,...

The mango cake is the best in BC... and don't forget the portugesse egg tart as well.
I discovered this place as I was walking through Kerrisdale one day. I walkd by and was stopped dead in my tracks by the most glorious and delicious sweet smell I had ever smelled.
And so I went in, and I ogled, and I went back to work and asked my boss (who loves cake) if we could take petty cash and go buy a cake. She said of course (obviously)
And so I came back, bought a bbq pork bun...

MANGO CAKE, MANGO CAKE, MANGO CAKE!
Get their mango cake! And I mean the WHOLE cake!
Get it!
We ordered a fruit cake from here, and I ate it for four days straight. It was my only happiness, the sole highlight of my day when I opened that fridge to find more left over cake. It helped me survive the awkward family reunion (and which family reunion isn't awkward?)
It was white sponge cake, layered with lots and lots of whipped cream and fresh fruits. It was so fluffy and moist, and most...

The only things I get at this bakery are the thickly sliced white bread (delicious for breakfast toast), the sponge cakes and the mango, strawberry and fruit cake made with fresh whipped cream. The cakes are absolutely divine and make the perfect snack when looking for something sweet and simple but not too rich. I'm officially a convert - no more cakes with rich buttercream or frosting for me.... more
I was playing basketball in the area so I needed some substenance afterwards. On Sunday afternoon, I was afraid that this bakery would be closed.. but NO! This place was crazy packed with people and families of all ages.... I had to take a number and wait to be called.
I got an assortment of buns and tarts - BBQ pork, curry, coconut, and portuguese egg tarts...
Wow the tart was even better...

I went there upon recommendation of a few friends because of their famous Portugese egg tarts. The pastries did not disappoint our drive from Coal Harbour to Kerrisdale just for the little tarts. The filling was of perfect sweetness and the crust is flanky and buttery - unlike the the heavy ones from T&T.
I would definitely return for their other creations.
* Another stop on my quest for the perfect egg tart in Vancouver *
I haven't found it yet. I'm hunting and searching and chasing down all leads for a perfectly flaky egg tart like those at Golden Gate: yelp.com/biz/golden-gate…
So I schlepped over to Michele's Cake Shop hoping to find what I was looking for.
I found a decent HK style bakery. They had two types of egg tarts. The Portuguese...

Visited the bakery over the weekend - it's small, but packed with delicious Asian cakes and pastries.
Friends urged me to try the Portuguese egg tarts, as this bakery is known for them. I love a good egg tart and fell in love with Michele's. The crust is flaky and buttery - the filling is sweet and delicious. I will definitely return for more soon!
Note: I love hot dog buns which Michele...

This place is always packed, and with good reason. When I lived nearby I went here almost every day for a couple years and never had anything less than delicious. The cakes are beautiful and intricate, but what I really enjoyed were all the buns. The coconut cocktail buns and the barbeque pork buns are tops. Closes early though, and because it's busy you rarely get in and out in under 5 minutes.
Delicious Asian-style cakes that everybody will enjoy! I especially enjoyed their black forest cake.
