The only place you'd rather be for a Flames game is Flame Central. And. lets face it, Flames Central can only handle a finite clientele. So, this is the other place to be.
Okay okay, back in 2004 when the Calgary Flames were going for the Stanley Cup, this place was like the hub. You would run into friends you hadn't seen for years, everyone was in good spirits, etc. Now? It's a chachi bar. Everyone has their noses up, everything is way overpriced, and their service is rude. I'd even avoid this place when walking down the street, ha!
i've had enough of this place, ever since the red mile. the drinks and food are way overpriced, and everyone thinks they're the most beautiful in the world if they're seen on the patio here. big deal.
I really can't stand the staff here, I think this place got too popular and now they're all high on themselves. If you're not a supermodel (like they think they are) they'll look down on you while you're here and you won't feel welcome. It's not a great place, people just go here because other people go here.
Known for their huge, multi-level patio and crowds leering onto 17th Avenue, Melrose is constantly packed for Red... more
just had lunch and wow the place is looking good, finally the mens washroom is way better now they got rid of that trough they called a urinal .well we ordered the pizza`s for dinner they were great i must say i will be back for the pie again .love the cold coors on tap ,must make it down for the world junior`s after x-mas.
I avoid eating here if possible, because it doesn't matter what I order, it's generally cold before it makes it onto my table. The service is usually at a snail's pace.Their field of dreams martini is pretty delicious, though!
Pretty decent food. Menu is what you'd expect at a bar, but the flavors are there. I've never had a complaint about the service either.
Do not waste your money here on the food. You cant beat the atmosphere and there is usually a decent late night crowd but the food sucks!
Well, the spot is really good, but the FRIES ARE A MESS!!!work on making good well done fries please!:)
Downstairs is a great place for an intimate presentation for about 100+ people. #MelroseCafe
Melrose is not my favorite bar, but I frequently go there since it's only 2 short blocks away from me. I wish they had a better beer selection on tap, they mostly have light lagers like Bud, Molsen, Coors, etc. They have a couple from Big Rock and Rickards, but they could definitely use more. Their daily specials are also usually for the same boring light beers. I don't eat food there too much,... more
drink nights and little something to eat.Perfect place!
I've been to Melrose a few times - for the patio. I returned yesterday with my daughter for lunch. We got our patio table, which was wonderful and although we did request one that hadn't been cleaned up (because the one they took us too initially was right beside a bunch of rowdy young men and way too close to them) it turned out to be a mistake. Sure they cleared away the dirty dishes right... more
This place used to have Great food until about 3 years ago. I would never eat here again the Burger Tastes like it is precooked and sits in water all day.Patio is nice
Good place for a drink, but some of te worst food I've had at any restaurant. Steak sandwich was supposed to be 7 oz, looked like 4 maybe, with an ounce of fat on the side. Had to ask for a steak knife to cut the half inch thick 'steak'... Pizza was nothing better than a 10 year old could make. Servers were great, but foot was awful.
Pizza never disappoints here. Great take on the original margherita pizza. Service was great and prompt. Spaghetti and meatballs was just OK. My bad, should have known to keep that for an evening at il Giardino. My only beef is pricing. No alcohol with dinner, 2 pizzas, pasta, wings and sweet potatoes fries $67.00. A little steep in my opinion. Nonetheless I will return. In 3 trips, I've never... more
Just visited Melrose on Saturday night for my birthday and had a good experience. The servers were friendly and prompt. They were ok with the balloons and cake we brought in, and offered plates/ forks for our party - Talk about accommodating. Most restaurants get their panties in a bunch when you suggest outside food. My only complaint would be the quality of some of the food. I ordered the... more
Love the food! Try the goat cheese dip appy, and margarita pizza
Without question this is the place to be during game nights but also because they do serve decent food in a nice environment. I would prefer Melrose anytime over that pretentious sports bar that takes after our favourite hometown hockey team simply because the servers here are a lot better than there!
The Calgary Stamede was getting a bit boring, so we decided to go back to the Red Mile (17th Ave) to look for a cool place to eat and drink. We wanted Pub Food and beer. Our first choice... more
Great place to hang out and have drinks, but the food is not always the best. I once ordered a chicken flatbread, and instead of using real grilled chicken, it tasted like deli sliced chicken. I still shudder when I think about it... how hard is it to cook a chicken and use real ingredients?I will come for the atmosphere, but never again for the food.
We didn't end up here for the food. We were able to sit on the patio overlooking the red mile, while sipping on a few drinks. Great atmosphere, fun people and semi-attractive service staff. If it weren't for the location, I probably wouldn't visit this place. But for now, it's there and I will repeat.
great place to hang out, good drinks but stay away from the food. we were a group of 9 and no one enjoyed the dinner
by Twyla (from Lethbridge, AB) December 2009 - This restaurant is conveniently located on 17th Avenue and has a restaurant and a very large lounge. We ate at this restaurant for dinner on Boxing day. We arrived there just after 6pm and it was not busy at all. Obviously we were seated immediately. The restaurant has a very modern and warm feeling décor. The restaurant appeared to be clean and... more
by Brandy (from Calgary) October 2009 - Melrose is the place to hang out. My girlfriends and I love the whole concept. It has a restaurant, an outdoor patio and 3 levels in the bar!!! Love the weekends!!! The food is always delicious and service is superb! You need to check it out if you haven't been!
I have mixed feelings about Melrose. On a positive note clearly it has been a marketing success. The design of the place shows some real investment and commitment to asthetics. And while everything they have done is not my personal taste, I do have to say I quite like the patio, complete with waterfall, and the lounge with such ambiant red lighting downstairs is also quite cool. However the... more
Melrose has a great summertime patio, is a great place to watch a game and, if you can get a streetside seat, is a great spot to people watch on a sunny weekend day. However, as a restaurant it leaves a lot to be desired. I've never had a good meal here either in the restaurant or in the sports bar side. Even their pub food (I.e. Burgers, wings, nachos) is poorly done. Have a cold beer and... more
loves the patio, great hangout, their field of dreams drink is the best! and their chicken taco salad was DELICIOUS
I watched a Flames playoff game at Melrose yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it (even though the Flames lost). The atmosphere, the staff and the food were great. I had the Chicken Club flat bread sandwich, which was fresh, tasty and filling. What a nice way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.
In celebration of another Ladies Night a few of my girlfriends and I decided to hit up Melrose Café and Bar. It was great. We started on the restaurant side with a light snack of innovative salads and finger foods and worked our way over to the lounge later that evening. The food was great, and I was especially impressed with the service on the lounge side. A waitress found us just as we were... more

I think Melrose is a pretty good bar. While it can get busy at times, it's definitely a fun place to hang out and have a couple of drinks. I like the fact that you can walk down two levels below ground level.

I happened to be at Melrose twice in one short visit to Calgary. There can be a long line-ups to get into the bar but the restaurant has the same menue and drinks. The food was pretty good. A bit above average with a normal selection of burgers, pastas and pizzas. Their goat cheese dip was a nice appetizer. For drinks, they had Hoegaarden on tap (which can be a rare find in some cities) and a... more

I had the regular burger. The food looked really nice, too bad it wasn't what I'd ordered at all. Service was awful at best - having to wait half an hour for a diet coke, and another 20 minutes for my change did not make me very happy, or very on time for work back from my lunch hour. I would NOT reccomend going here, if you have somewhere to be within the next lifetime, or are picky about... more
More of a bar than a restaurant. Serves mainly sandwiches, salads and chili.
We had the cheeseburger and the steak sandwich. Portions were of a good size, and excellent quality. However, we were part of a larger group, and they only assigned one server to us, and so service was not as good as it could have been.
Ate there once, food doesn't stay with you. By the time a second cup of coffee is finished, I was starting to get hungry.
Great atmosphere, good food the only shame is the trendy, whining non-smoking crowd that shouldn't be in a lounge if the smoke bothers them, maybe they shouldn't leave their house if things are so offensive in the outside world.
Enjoy a game of pool or take in some television sports in a smoke-free environment at the Melrose. They have an extensive menu that includes California cuisine, pizza, daily pasta dishes and salads. The decor is contemporary and spacious, with an ample number of private booths and tables. There are 10 satellite televisions and you can enjoy watching your favourite video on their \"video wall.\"... more
Although California is miles away, a little taste of it can be had at this trendy restaurant. Known for its designer pizzas and flatbread sandwiches, the eatery attracts diners who want to munch on entrees that feature fresh ingredients and don't seem so heavy. Among their offerings, you'll find a tasty salmon salad, grilled chicken, and more. The place is also good for drinks, and you can sip... more
