For rib-sticking chow, Melissa's is a local favorite and venerated landmark (its Tudor exterior and wood interior, dating to 1928, qualify it as a Banff Heritage Building). Melissa's serves from dawn past dusk, usually to a mixed crowd of locals and tourists, but families and hangover victims both seem to agree: Breakfast's the thing. Our choice? The apple pancakes: crisp on the outside, tender... more
Service is second to none. The menu, especially breakfast, is extensive. And the price is far better than other local restaurants.
This was a good place to start our eating in Banff. We did better later in the week, but the burgher and salad were decent and acceptable. Service also very accomodating and the place was close to our hotel.
We had breakfast in Aug 2014. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. This place is popular and busy, which is because it is so good.
The restaurant is located in an old Tudor style building constructed around the start of the 1900's, it's atmosphere is very inviting although it can become a little noisy. A large choice of food on the menu ensured everyone got something they liked for dinner. The steaks were very good and accurately cooked to your choice. Prices, for a tourist... more
We ate at Melissa s on August 5th, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had eaten there 24 years earlier and it was a must revisit on our return. We were not disappointed, the Big Breakfast was worth every penny. My guests had the Huevos Ranchers and were extremely pleased with their food. When eating breakfast a good coffee is... more
Stopped in for lunch because our tour director recommended it. Was pleasantly surprised. The staff was attentive and the food very good and reasonable priced.
The menu was pleasing for the adults and the kids (ages 3 and 1). Reasonable prices and great mountain ambiance.
Family restaurant but nice feel to it, value for money excellent. We had an entree each, which included starter and large main. I had BC wild salmon which was delicious, and my husband had a slow cooked rib of beef which was amazing melt in the mouth stuff. Half the price of a similar meal elsewhere in the town.
Some of the best baked French onion soup I have ever had - make sure you try it! The staff is great about subbing the soup in place of a salad, too. The meals are huge so you might not have room for everything you order but it is pretty good food.
We came by Melissa's by chance as it is a little bit away from the main drag, but luckily for us they could accommodate us although booking is advisable. We could see why. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and plentiful. We ordered steak, salmon in maple and pizza and all were beautifully cooked. Served with salad... more
On a recent trip to the Banff area with friends, we opted to head into town for breakfast one morning and after reading reviews, ended up at Melissa's. Well, we chose the right place! Eggs Benedict was best I've eaten, service was great, and we left fueled up for our day. A great choice for starting your day off right!... more
When I came here, soccer was on and there were a few people who were from across seas getting into the game, and then some locals enjoying themselves. The staff were friendly and the food was good. It's nice and close to most dining in Banff, just off of the main drag, Banff Avenue. I hear that the breakfast here... more
Great breakfast on the first day in Banff. Recommended by a friend. Wonderful eggs benedict and apple cinamon pancake.
Continuous supply of tea and coffee. great start to the holiday
Sat at table after only a short wait, service was friendly and attentive. Really good selection on the menu and priced very reasonably. Our food arrived promptly and tasted great. They have a lot if seats and can always accommodate you if you turn up on spec, like we did.
This is our first visit to Banff and my daughter who lives here recommended Melissa's. We were not disappointed. We only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table and as it was a Friday night didn't mind. The feel inside is quite traditional. The service was excellent.
I had a steak with all the sides as did my...

My family with 4 adults , a child, and teen spent 1 week in Canadian Rockies and this restaurant had the best overall menu. The prices were very reasonable for the area and the kids menu included a small steak. I highly recommend this for a very good family dinner.
We where in banff for 7 days and we did not make our way here til day 6. We came for breakfast. Just incredible, we came back for dinner that night and breakfast the next morning. Great location we'll be back next year.
Really bad experience. We chose this restaurant because they have nice patio sitting area. Right off the bat, the table was gross. The waiter used really dirty cloth to wipe the table and it was still soaking wet when we sat down. Oblivious to that, he put the utensils sets right down. so yucky. Who would want to pick the... more
Our party of 7 stopped for dinner after finding line-ups at several other local restaurants. Between the adults we tried salmon, prime rib and steak. The salmon was dry and bland. My steak was flavorless and tough, as was my cousin's. My husband enjoyed the prime rib though. The vegetables were still crunchy and none of us ate them. Very... more
Melissa’s at 218 Lynxx in Banff with dining in a rustic cabin style restaurant or on a patio. Although the restaurant has a high ceiling, it is not noisy. Melissa’s offers a very full breakfast menu including several eggs benedict options, soups, hot sandwiches, salads, and many dinner entrees. The patio dining in the summer is very popular. All the... more
I liked the area it was in but there was nothing else worth mentioning. The food was not good and the steak was bland. Never recommend this for a taste of Alberta Beef.
Right across the street from our hotel. Little wait. Friendly staff. A good selection of breakfast food. I enjoy dinner style restaurants for breakfast given the larger selection of options. Not too expensive.
Was debating between a few breakfast places in town and was glad we settled on this. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Our table had 2 different kinds of eggs benedict, steak and eggs, and the big breakfast. The eggs benny were amazing - fresh, hot, and cooked to order. I had the smoked salmon eggs benny... more
Featuring a menu that does not break the bank, everything for breakfast looks amazing. I had the three egg Benedict and one large pancake. It is large and yes, one will do for the both of you! Service is impeccable. Always busy so expect a bit of a wait (but not too long).
Overall first impression was good and service was great! Dress is casual! The escargots were ok and the rib appetizer was amazing. Three of us ordered a tenderloin. Two were done to perfection and the well done had to be sent back to be cooked more. The mashed potatoes were a bit over mashed. Fries were great! The stew was... more
We had a top sirloin, a prime rib, and a beef stew. Everyone was very happy with the steaks/the main dishes. The veggie sides and mashed potatoes were tasty. We also all liked the Yorkshire pudding for the prime rib, although it was a bit salty, not sure if that's how it's supposed to be.
And it was all pretty...

Always a good option for a BIG tasty breakfast. This busy restaurant does a great job of serving a bustling clientele with consistently high quality food. Try it, you'll love the food and smile at the prices.
Melissa’s is favorite of mine for incredible food and wine every time I make my way to Banff. You will not be disappointed! Price is within reason (for Banff) and the menu selection is great! My favorites are the Eggs Benny for breakfast and the prime rib for an evening meal! And the history of the place is amazing!
Great place for breakfast which is apparently served from 7:00-4:00 daily. Fast & friendly service. If we return to Banff would definitely seek out for breakfast.
We were in Banff over the June 26th weekend. Our experience at Melissa's on different days for different meal times was already in the higher quality area. However, we were even more impressed by manager Steve Fournier's next-day couriering of forgotten sunglasses after a call confirmed they had been left there. All in all worth our first Tripadvisor review!
Breakfast was the bomb. You can order what want instead of their printed offering. Staff friendly and fast.
We stopped at Melissa's for lunch while in Banff. Our choice was the light lunch consisting of a Caesar salad, soup and home made garlic toast. All the items were delicious. One of our friends had a hamburger and stated it was one of the best he'd ever had. Our server was prompt and efficient with a wonderful sense of... more
Although off the Main Street, a hidden gem, fantastic breakfasts, great service, friendly staff. Family restaurant, no frills but fab.
We always go to Melissa`s for breakfast in Banff. I can`t speak to the other meals, but the Breakfast is always good, and always fast. We went on our way home, and were in and done in 30 minutes! It`s popular, so you may have in line.
Service was great, friendly, informative and speedy.
Enjoyed the food...good selection, nicely presented.
We visited this restaurant 2 times while in Banff. Great service both times and we were seated quickly. We went for an early lunch one day and saw their breakfast menu so we knew we would want to do a breakfast visit before we left Banff. Very satisfied.
If you want good, home cooked food, this is the place to go. This family type restaurant is great for all ages. We had dinner there twice during our stay and they were offering an anniversary price (I think meals at 1975 prices) but regardless, their normal menu is great value and the service is to match.
We had a wonderful table for two beside the window!! Our service was excellent and we had a delicious breakfast. The omelette was fresh and tasty!! We stayed across the street at the Banff Park Lodge so it was handy as well!!
Melissa's is a great place to have a casual dinner or hearty breakfast. It was right around the corner from our hotel so it was an easy walk. I had a steak dinner and the beef was very good. In the morning I had French toast and bacon. Others in my party had eggs and bacon or the healthy fruit... more
Casual dinning, casual atmosphere, good prime rib and interesting deserts - the chocolate brownie is served in.....worth finding out; the menu says don't ask just try one.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Melissa's! Go back every time we're in Banff (once a year at least!). Fantastic food, cozy atmosphere, good staff. A pleasant experience every time; breakfast is to die for! HIGHLY recommend!
This restaurant seemed too close to our hotel to be worth a visit but we were wrong. The weather was nice so we enjoyed a delicious rib steak on a quiet patio. Our waiter was very attentive and helped us share an entree and appetizer that was was just right for the two of us (seniors). Thrown in was great... more
We enjoyed quite a few meals here from Breckies to Lunch and dinner. Great staff and food to die for.
Had been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for two weeks as an acquaintance recommended it. The food was, however, terrible: the Caesar's salad was underwhelming, my baby back ribs were tough, the oven baked potatoes were super dry, the vegetables scarce and badly marinated in dill sauce. My friends sirloin steak was also tough, and the "brownie conspiracy" dessert... more
Always a great meal at Melissa's. Eggs Benedict this morning, deep dish pizza last night and all at a reasonable price. Looking forward to our next visit.
the staff were so helpful we returned twice more despite there being many other choices. the food was good value and they were accommodating to my changes of mind! the tea was good we reccommend breakfast
This restaurant is renowned for it's breakfasts and I can personally vouch for it's lunches and dinners too. A whole group of us, 50+ were booked into the restaurant for dinner one evening, so four of us decided to try it out for lunch too as a scouting mission. We were not disappointed. We had excellent service by a very... more
As we live in Banff we visited Melissa's quite often, however this was our last visit for sure as we found that the quality of the food & service went down. Our server didnt seem very interested in us, we had to ask her twice for coffee, water & the bill. I asked for over hard eggs, instead they were... more
A busy restaurant all day long.We tried the breakfast and was happy that it's way cheaper than the nearby hotel breakfast food. Service was great as my coffee was always filled up. Even if it seems the food plating is not appealing, food taste ok. i ordered 2 French toast and I could not even finish the second one as... more
This was recommended by one of the best drivers and we followed his suggestion of trying the salad & steaks. The steaks were the equal of any other we had during our holiday and were excellent value. The house wine was also good so all round it was one of the best meals we had during our holiday.
A stick-to-your-ribs kinda breakfast is served at a marvelous location!
We chose Melissa's as it was across the road from our hotel and because we love steak. We were NOT dsappointed. The service was a little slow but it was very busy at the time so understandable and the food definitely made up for it. The menu is varied, if you like steak or seafood I would definitely recommend it. As well as full meals, they also serve combinations - for example I had a 6oz... more
We went to Melissa's in Feb and all 12 of us thought it very second rate. Our meals were very disappointing. The only positive was one of the children who ordered pizza. The veggie burger was dry and uninteresting, the casserole and steak meals were all declared disappointing and overpriced. We wouldn't dine there again unless it was purely for pizza and there are better places to go in Banff.
Melissa's has an old supperclub feel. The waitresses are a little bit older and saltier than the precocious teens that are common at trendier spots. Dinner will come with breadsticks, rolls, salad and a trolley of salad dressings. I selected the biggest steak on the menu (a t-bone or porterhouse I believe) while Becky opted for the trout and petit filet. The only starch suited to such a dinner... more
A typical family restaurant & bar - the usual burgers, pastas, etc. Food is decent, reasonably priced. Has been around for many years, and is a local institution. Known also for the annual Melissa's Road Race that it organizes and/or sponsors.
Comfortable setting with excellent food, attentive service and of great value for your money! Highly reccomended.
Loved it. Great service. Great food and a great time was had by all.

Opened by the Borden family in 1979 and set in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in the Banff National Park, Melissa's Missteak has forever been a local favorite. Nowhere else to be found, its very famous Alberta beef and prime rib bring in crowds from all over Canada and beyond. The original Tudor exteriors and rustic woody interiors were retained giving this place it's unique charm. The... more
Serving wonderful breakfasts, lunches and dinners in beautiful Banff, Alberta
No matter what time of day you come to Melissa's, you'll be warmly greeted and made to feel at home. The restaurant, housed in a circa-1928 building, resembles a chalet on the outside and a log cabin on the inside. It's also a local institution and a great place to meet friends. The Canadian cuisine makes the most of local ingredients, and you'll find a selection of Alberta steaks, salmon,... more
