Je recommande fortement ce restaurant. Très bonne ambiance. Allez-y cet automne pour les huîtres! Vous ne serez pas déçus!
Great restaurant after spending a long day touring Montréal for the first time. We had oysters which were delicious and only $1 at happy hour! Their Rouge Sangria is killer so I had two! Finished with Steak Frites which was cooked perfectly and much more tender than I've had before. Thanks for a great night.
Decent steak , But i was not impressed by the "60 days dry aging '' flavor . Their burger is good but it is very $$$ for the quantity . 7.5/10
For a "steakhouse" it exceeded my expectations! Great cocktail selection and the food is very flavourful. Went here for a surprise birthday shin-dig and everyone was please out of our group of 15 people! I'd say that's a success :)
This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had. We went to brunch here and it was AWFUL. The service was bad, it took about 25 mins to get our drinks. I ordered a Bloody Mary, which was in the smallest glass and was $16!!! And it was so gross (made with bourbon). Then we ordered the frittata and I couldn't even finish it because it was not good. It tasted like there was some sort of... plus
My boyfriend and I visited for brunch while in Montreal! I rushed him out of the hotel room as brunch is a serious thing here in the states, especially NY. We walked in expecting to have a line (they have a two hour bottomless mimosa option) and we were the first ones in the restaurant!
We were sat in a cute window table and absolutely loved it! Our waiter was so sweet and sat and chatted with...

Tourist Trap!
1. Chairs had stains on them
2. Menu was dirty (look like it had BBQ sauce on it)
3. Food is OK but for Montreal, there are way better restaurants at this price point
4. Service was poor and the staff lack knowledge of wine/food
5. The Music at this restaurant sounded like you're in Texas (2 hours of country music doesn't fit the environment)
Great place in old town Montréal for steak and Frites! The sauce with the steaks was really tasty too! The calamari has great flavor but only big enough for two people. One person in our group got the pasta dish and we all agreed it was great too! Great dinner spot if your in old town!
So here was our experience: we are staying in the adjacent hotel having flown in from Dallas for my brother's wedding. It's late and we are looking for "takeout food" to take up to our room. The concierge directs us to Mechant. We walk in and are told the a) the kitchen closes in30 minutes and b) yes they do take out food. Great. I ask if we can grab a drink at the bar while we wait. Yes. We... plus
The staff here are super amazing. Close to the port, tucked away in another building is this cute little restaurant. My boyfriend and I came here for brunch, we were greeted instantly and seated down. While our server Mat is super energetic and friendly.

I came here with my fiancé on new year's eve for a special brunch. The place was decorated really nicely and there were balloons everywhere! The menu selection wasn't huge, there weren't that many options for someone who doesn't like sugary foods as meals. I chose the beef tartar with fries and he got a burger with fries. The potatoes were wonderfully seasoned and cooked perfectly. My beef... plus

We had a super disappointing meal here on our first day in Montreal. Walked in around 2:00pm looking for lunch or post-lunch meal and were given a brunch menu. People were clearly still in brunch-mode, and when we asked about non-brunch items we were told it was too early. Our server was not very present, never asked us if we wanted drinks, and rarely checked on us. The two things we wanted... plus
Came across this place on our trip to Montreal. We were looking for a brunch place and luckily walked into this restaurant. The staff was super friendly and the food was AMAZING!!! My husband devoured his pancakes and he had the same look of... plus
Now I get the low reviews and didn't see them coming! Until now. And looks are deceiving. Hubby had Méchant targeted since the last 2 times we've spent Holidays here- and now his dreams became reality. Delightful dinner with my family which started with a large, delicious clear sangria. Fast, friendly service started with our super crispy calamari prepared differently than the norm. Excellent. Had a get together with some old buddies and it was great. We shared the seafood 2-level platter which included a lobster, oysters, shrimp and more. All was great. Then, I followed with a New York steak, meat was tender and cooked perfect. Ambiance was great with the DJ. Would definitely go back.
Have you ever thought to yourself, I want a really good steak but really don't want to be late to meet my friends at the nightclub? Why not save a stop and do them both at the same place?
Trust me that sounds absurd. But our first dinner out when on our honeymoon in Montreal was just that. I wanted a steak but didn't end up with one there because when in Canada, Poutine? That's how the saying...

The food was good but the service was questionable . I sat here with a dry beer for at least 10 minutes. The foam in the beer was actually dry. Otherwise it is a very nice high quality place. I would come back again.
The best dinner My husband and I had in Montreal. I have a gluten allergy which can be difficult when it comes to finding a good restaurant. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and had plenty of recommendations. There were a number of good gluten free options on the menu, with minimal modifications.
We started with the beef tartare which was amazing. Followed by a few oysters which were great!...

First time here and the restaurant was excellent.
Lively atmosphere and super friendly service.
I ordered the Méchant Burger with fries and it was delicious. Flavourful and home cut fries well deep fried. Haha.
It's located within Old Montreal and pricing is decent with $10-12 appetizers to $60 entree's such as the Tomahawk steaks.
Overall great value and be back again soon.
What a wonderful experience! Went for dinner for my friends bachelorette party, our waiter Michael was so kind and had wonderful recommendations. Service was great, food was amazing and they even made a special desert for the bride to be which has us screaming with excitement and laughter. Thanks for making the evening so special!
We were ended our long stag weekend in Quebec at Mechant's with some of our Montreal friends. The atmosphere was cool and trendy out party grew by three and the hostess was happy to accommodate us and set up a new table to hold all 13 of us before we could sit at the bar. Had a lovely Sunday brunch at Merchant Bœuf in as charming a setting as one might find in Old Montreal. To start, the young rude hostess Claire should have a class in customer relations. We came for dinner early, the restaurant was empty. We asked for a table for 4. Food was plentiful and well made. Service was outstanding. Atmosphere was a bit "steakhousy" (it is a steakhouse after all,) but certainly unpretentious.
I recommend the Poutine Au Brisket de Boeuf for appetizer, Short Ribs for main course and Shortcakes Au Fraises for dessert.
Came to méchant bœuf on Friday night. We sat at the bar and Had a great time, they told me all about the new cocktail list and wine list. I had the crispy shrimp and the tuna poke. Great service great food and music. Thanks guys I'll definitely be b
Great find upon arriving to old Montreal. The brisket poutine was phenomenal. The entrees we selected were great (lobster gnocchi, cacatelli, and the Méchant burger). Whole chunks of lobster in the gnocchi. To top it off, the drinks were spectacular. Definitely recommend!
My boyfriend and I took our first trip to Montreal and this restaurant made our trip!! The food is amazing (especially the seafood platter), the ambiance was perfect and the bartender Nikki along with her manager Seth went above and beyond in service. Loved it here!
Wonderful atmosphere and one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. Highly recommend.
Came here for Bottomless Brunch, and i am happy to say that this is the best bottomless in Montreal after having done every one in the city. The service is SUPER fast (Thanks Joel! I went to Méchant Boeuf for the first time for my boyfriend's mother's birthday. It's at a great location in the Old Port and very easy to find. Joelle served us. Yong, nice guy wanted to give his best shot but wasn't as professional as we expected. He was kind of lost. The food was not good as we expected. I would never go back to this place again. There's definitely better options on St. Paul. 6/10
Saturday atmosphere was so chic. Great music. Food was excellent!! We will be back when we return to Montreal!!
My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this place for dinner and we don't regret it. She had the onglet steak and I had the grilled salmon. Both of them were amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better dinner. They also gave us some warm bread and butter which was amazing as well.
Literally amazing. Get the charcuterie and have a flavor adventure with your mouth while you go on a magical house music journey with a tasteful DJ
Nooo what happened to the portion size. Got a 8oz steak on a huge empty plate. Sorry with 3 small asparagus. And fries on a different plate?? Steak was good. But the fries were the over fried bottom leftovers. Atmosphere and service is as great as ever but the menu changed and the presentation was disappointing. Go back to how it was before!
We went there because of Happening Gourmand event. Had the brunch for 17$ each. I really enjoyed my experience. The place was big, had a DJ, lots of people during the brunch. We had an entree and the meal. Even though the food was a bit too saucy for us.. it was still delicious and new for us.
Dissapointed with the portion sizes. Pretentious! Meet wasn't tender.
Nice place, DJ, and good atmosphere.
We got to Mechant Boeuf looking for somewhere quick and inexpensive to eat (there was a $27 table d'hote), but ended up having an awesome time. Been twice so far, service is great but food is just good. There is always something missing in the meal - breakfast poutine had broth rather than gravy and so was rather bland, brisket had nothing to offset the heaviness of it, eggs were undercooked. Wouldn't send anything back but there are better places in the area for the price.
Astomosphere was great. Staff was very friendly. We ordered ywo rounds of oysrer withiut knowing the Happy Hour has passed already. Lol. Their Haopy Hour is from 5 pm to 7 pm btw. I saw a review om Yelp complementing their Chicken burger and I ordered it and it was indeeed very juicy and tasty.
Sat down for the brunch special today, ordered a coffee while we checked out the menu. Very limited special menu but we knew that when we went inside. After reviewing the menu we found out they didn't have anything without bread or potatoes so we needed to look elsewhere. She brought me the bill for the coffee I hadn't touched. Won't go back.
After a full day of driving and some afternoon stroll we were recommended by our Airbnb host to try Méchant Bœuf. Un peu dispendieux pour le niveau de la nourriture. Rien pour se jetter par terre, mais quand meme bon.
Décor interessant et confortable.
Belle ambiance vraiment trop bruyante, mais service sympathique.
We happened upon this as we walked around Old Montreal and it's at the non bistro end of the street. But it had a couple TripAdvisor recognition logos on the entry way. This helped simplify the choice.

The food and service were just ok...nothing to write home about.
Great ambiance, very good service, delicious food! A must if you are in the Old Port area.
To be fair, we ordered calamari, spinach dip and pasta. In hindsight we should have ordered something beef related. Pasta was huge and alright; spinach dip tasted curdled; calamari were not crispy, but had a good dip. The restaurant was nice and the service was good. The above meal with 2 dirty martinis came to $75 with tax.
The maitre d was exceptional by providing our party the best table in the house - next to the windows. Food and ambiance was great although wine is way too expensive and noise level EXTREME to the level to be uncomfortable. Why the need of a DJ is beyond me. We finished off our dinner having coffee at another restaurant.
Heard lots of ggod stuff and read many good reviews about this restaurant so made reservations to dine with friends visting from Dubai. Very disappointed. We had a late lunch at neighboring Jardin Nelson (terrific) and so opted for appetizers and wine only for dinner. Wine list was good; perfectly sized (8 oz) glasses. Fried calamari was atrocious. Served in a pile on checkered (wax) paper....... plus
The chairs have very short legs. Not comfortable with seats too low. Friendly waitress. Young crowd. Ear-deafening music. Not able to have a conversation. Good food and extensive bar offerings. Very friendly and energetic bar keepers. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone under 40 years old. This gal prefers a quieter location. Conversation is an important part of my dining experience.
Mechant Bouef was alright. The decor and vibe in the place was amazing, the live DJ was really good as well. Service was really good, and our appetizer was really tasty (pulled pork poutine). However our main meals were Alright. Nothin special with not a ton of flavor. Maybe we caught them on an off night, not sure, but I'd go back and give them another try.
Best meal we ate during out visit to Montreal. Food, service and ambiance was wonderful! Wish the music from the DJ in the corner had been turned down as it made conversation a bit difficult. Would definitely go back when we return to Montreal.
Extremely loud, had a DJ and a woman playing the violin. 2 large groups next to us had to yell to hear each other which further increased the noise level to a bar atmosphere. Octopus salad was almost completely onions and the mechant burger was extremely dry.
Would definitely pick another of the many great restaurants in vieux Montreal next time.
Nice place, nice location, good food (very good burger). Noise was loud, so hard for conversation, but great for atmosphere.
The Internet, Guidebooks, and the concierge all billed this as one of Montreal's great happy hour spots with a great Mixologist, half pice drink specials and a happy hour crowd. We went on Thursday, no happy hour crowd, average drinks and happy hour specials on the beers only. Underwhelmed to say the least.
This was my second time to the restaurant and first time for my wife. It was for an anniversary dinner and I had noted so on the open table reservation. I have been to Mechant Boeuf on multiple occasions for work travel and enjoy the food and ambience every time. This place is wonderful. Whether you're looking for the full dining experience, or just want to grab some tasty cocktails, this is a great place to go! In a great location, awesome environment, not to mention the cool waterfall design on one of the walls. Definitely a place I'll be going to again and again!
For a place that is to specialize in beef I was underwhelmed. I had the sirloin which was not great quality however the flavor was good. It came with mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. The veggies were good but the potatoes had a strange taste, as if they had been frozen. I also had the French onion soup which was good but came out lukewarm. The service was great.
My husband and I both had burgers, his the Skinny Burger and mine the Mechant burger. Both were delicious. Overall, the food a and service were just average. Way too pricey for the quality of food. Atmosphere best part of the venue.
"Hip" scene (but not hipster), dark, lively and busy. Wine list didn't offer any wines less than $50/bottle I think, but the food was great - oysters from the raw bar, sirloin steak and salmon (I know, not the place for it but it was reeeeally good, nice char on it with great sides). Complimentary after dinner drinks (port), not... plus
We where in love with this place from the doorway. Ambiance, food, drinks, service, everything! If you eat no where else in Montreal, eat here.
My boyfriend and I ended up here when we stayed at the Nelligan for our anniversary. We were given free drink coupons by the hotel, when we went to use them we found out that the hotel bar closed rather early (sometime around 10:30). We were told to go to Mechant Beouf to use our coupons there. So we did.... plus
Best carpaccio I've ever had. More than that, this is a fun place. It was obvious that this is a locals place--we were there on a Wednesday night and it was crowded fairly late. The place is vibrant and the bartender was excellent. It is really a walkway from the Hotel Nelligan which we love. I do recommend this place... plus
Approximately three years ago, I had the pleasure of eating one of the best burgers I ever had, as well as receiving exceptional service at this "Old Montreal" Brasserie. Last night, with great anticipation after a three year wait to get back to Montreal, I again ordered the "Mechant" burger.
I, as well as my colleague, ordered a medium burger,...

The best thing about the our weeknight visit was the entertainment. The food was good, the value reasonable for old montreal, and the service was great.
We stumbled upon this spot and arrived right when they opened. The entire staff greeted us warmly. Great wine selection and the appetizers were fantastic! Our waiter misunderstood what I ordered. When my meal came and I addressed it, he was extremely apologetic and almost ran back to the kitchen. To make it right, he brought all four of us... plus
Amazing beef tar tars and choice of bar drinks. I am a frequent visitor and have been going here for years with my buddies for cocktails and their delicious meat platters. Service is great and ambiance is energetic I love the vibe. A+
I had heard such good things about this place. Best burger, etc etc. I wanted to like it. That's what makes this so disappointing. The atmosphere and live music were top notch - warm and lively. We walked in and had great feelings about the place. That's where the greatness stopped.
The service was slow and inattentive for a place...

A nice find on Mcgill.A must for meat lovers.
Really enjoyed the ambiance and feeling of this location (having a live DJ on hand didn't hurt). The food wasn't exceptional - but it wasn't terrible either. Cocktails, on the other hand, were fantastic!
AAA Angus Beef, a delicious raw bar, colorful cocktails, live music and the best burger in town-Mechant Boeuf delivers on all fronts. A 5a7 fixture, this Old Montreal hub adds a pinch of outlandishness to modern pub sensibilities. It's a fresh spin on post-work unwinding and late-night bites. Montreal's mischievous side never tasted so good!
