Went in tonight looking for a cord for my gopro, which I have been unable to find anywhere in the city! These. Guys had the right cord, were able to show me the other accessories I was looking for, and were able to answer plenty of questions about my gopro. They also assured me I could return the cord if for some reason it didn't fit (I was a bit unsure about the size of it). Awesome... more
McBain is a great local business with very well trained staff on the photography business and all its accoutrement.
I had been to a couple of their stores before purchasing my digital slr camera. I'm the type of person that does weeks of research before making any kind of large purchase. They provided me great information that helped me to make my decision.
I ended up purchasing my camera at...

Just save yourself a headache and don't bother. I tried Mcbain because I try to support smaller businesses. I won't be surprised if they're no longer around in five years.
I just called McBain's directly from Vancouver Island and tried to order a pair of binoculars for my Grandson's Birthday in Edmonton. I naturally wanted to pay for it with my credit card and have my son (Who is a Lead Surgeon at the Royal Alexander Hospital) pick them up on his way home but McBain's refuses to allow that to happen. Completely not helpful even when I offered to pay for them... more
I was looking for a simple tripod. They said I had to wait 2 weeks. They also said I was going to get a confirmation call so I could know when to pick it up. I had to call them back because no one ever called me. It is hard to believe that a store that specializes in cameras and all kinds of accessories do not have a tripod available. I had to cancel my order. The service provided was poor and... more
I've had better experiences at McBain than Vistek. Not perfect, but far and away a better experience. I'm an amateur photographer.
I was looking for a camera to take family photos and had my eye on a Canon 7D. When I went to McBains they asked a bunch of questions about what I wanted to use the camera for, and I learned the 60D was better for me. They not only helped me decide, I didn't need as much camera as I thought. How often does a salesman talk you into a lower priced model rather than trying to sell the the most... more
I too have been into McBain's only to be met with rude, condescending staff who seem to think that since you're new to photography, they can treat you like the dirt on their shoes. Over the last three years I have been into several McBain's locations over Edmonton, each time I leave with the sense that I am not welcome or appreciated as a customer. This last time took the cake for me and as... more
I deal with McBain only when necessary; otherwise I will not give any more of my money to them. It is far too often that staff acts with annoyance when asked simple questions. This is not to say that I have not received adequate or even excellent service at times; however, it is very apparent that the staff is burnt out from answering the same questions time and again and because many customers... more
Bought a camera for work because McBain Camera sponsors CKUA Radio. They had much better prices than I had expected. The salesclerk had the correct suggestion for me on the first shot.
I have been an avid camera user off and on for over 25 years; it was about in High School that I started usung McBain and have walked out of there with 1200.00 or more in camera equipment about five times. I have been in there time and time again for extras and replacement parts. Even when I am not spending money they are allways good and happy to talk as the staff I have found love their jobs... more
Since 2007, I've purchased four cameras from McBain. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are competitive with other stores in the Edmonton area. The only issue I've had is their online used inventory is not updated often, (I've seen items listed that I'd called about weeks beforehand and been told they were sold), other than that, I would strongly recommend them.
Very professional camera shop and ultimate service from the personal. They know their stuff here on cameras and can help you out. Numerous cameras, books, videos, and accessories for cameras here.
Looking for a camera accessory, these folks were very helpful and knew not only the item I needed they could recite the model number...wow!
Lucky for me they had the item in stock and said it was not a hard to find item (unlike the sales folk at Black's).
Very customer focused and interested in photography.
Will definitely be back for other camera items, so much nicer than a Best Buy or major...

I have not had the opportunity to share any great experiences from this store. I have not bought my d300 or d700 a few years ago, for the obvious reason - their prices suck. I had to get mine from Toronto or the other side of town from their competitor. I still have a distaste in my mouth when they assured me of having a d300 backup for a wedding I was shooting. A phone call the previous day... more
What is there to say about McBain Camera except that this store has a wonderful selection of digital cameras, video cameras, tripods, lenses, photo albums, and even binoculars. For me, walking into McBain Camera is a lot different than walking into Best Buy or Future Shop because McBain employees know so much about cameras that I can't help but feel a bit intimidated and fearful. My fears are... more
McBain is probably Edmonton's most established photography store. Now a chain, this is I think the original location. McBain sells mid to high end cameras, both digital and analog, along with supplies and photo developing services. The people who work here tend to know their stuff and stand behind their merchandise. You can probably get a good deal on high quality cameras and accessories here... more
