it's an old classic but you'll find the food and atmosphere nice
There were lots of outside tables on a warm summer evening and they weren't busy. Service is friendly and slow at times. The interior of the restaurant looks dark and didn't appeal to me. The food is reasonably priced and a change from roadhouse style food with some European options. Pork tenderloin was okay but not quite what I anticipated.... more
When 60 people arrive at the same time for dinner, the restaurant better know what they're doing. We had a buffet dinner which was excellent. We all sat upstairs in our private dining room and the two bar tenders did a good job making sure the drink orders kept coming out. Food was very tasty with a large selection to... more
I had the pleasure of stopping by this restaurant downtown, I haven't visited it in many years but I was thoroughly impressed by the service and food. Each course was presented very professionally and brought me at ease to know that 5 star service still exists.
Love the food, very good variety and good prices. Quieter atmosphere then most restaurants which is nice. Can enjoy yourself.
Having eaten at Chaucer's Pub between two and five times per year over the course of roughly ten years I can honestly say I've never been disappointed withe the food. It is delicious and the quality can be counted on. The last two times I've been there, however, the service was dreadful and I hope that both times we were... more
A recent outing to the Marienbad in London, ON. was once again a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant has the standard fare such as steak, chicken and fish however in the case of the latter two they are prepared differently from other establishments which makes for a great meal. Of course for me the overall attraction is the platter consisting... more
Sometimes I just crave schnitzel and Marienbad is always a great meal. This spot has one of my favourite wines (Kilikanoon Killerman's Run Shiraz) which is how I love to start. I then order the regular schnitzel with spatzel (little dumplings) and gravy on the side. For dessert I love the option of the Marienbad Bombe which is ice cream... more
Just recently went to our favourite restaurant in London ON - the Marienbad to celebrate with parents.
This is my favourite restaurant for many reasons but the one that keeps me coming back is a specialty they serve NO one else local or near does: steak tartar. Not for everyone; this serving of finely ground filet mignon served raw, with...

Always a great meal. Large selection of beer both on tap and bottled. Not overly noisy and they have a Dinner Mystery theater on occasion. Worth the stop when you are in town. Close to the Hockey Arena so you can dine and make the London Knights hockey game. Get your tickets first to avoid disappointment. Make a reservation at... more
If you've eaten good schnitzel, you'll know this ain't it. It didn't even look like schnitzel....it my have come from a freezer. The veal was too thick, the breading too greasy and the entire dish lacked any seasoning. Bland, utterly without taste. This was accompanied by vegetables that were cooked to the point of being barely edible. The chicken pesto... more
This is an excellently situated restaurant in Downtown London; ideal for meals before/after theatre/concerts or Budweiser Gardens activities. It is a very well established restaurant that serves German-style food in the form of beautifully cooked schnitzels, but there are other dished on the menu for those not pre-disposed to veal. The ambience is great, the service quick and the food... more
When close I always head to the Marienbad, one of the few places that serves Steak TarTar delicious as a appetizer or main meal. My sons and wife love the various schnitzels. Homemade goodness permeates their menu. Today i tried their Czechoslovak plough mans lunch great homemade potato salad first rate cheese and ham The presentation was 5 star I... more
Discovered Marienbad while traveling through Ontario and glad we did. Charming restaurant located in an old building in downtown London, classy but casual with dining inside or out on the patio or in the courtyard.
Menu is varied, offering American dishes and several German selections in every section of the menu. You may share a dish for a small charge,...

My husband and I have have been going to the Marianbad for the last 35 years. We have never been disappointed with any of our meals. The schnitzel is my favourite,,,made in different versions. The stall is always friendly and very attentive and pretty much know what we will order....My husband has lunch there at least once a week .... more
I am a regular at the resaurant. It is constantly providing a high quality service for the patrons. The chef(s) must be on the same page as well since the quality of the food is costant.
The athmosphere is casual but yet it has an elegant charm. The inside covered court is a gem in London.
Price is fine .
If you like German food, the Marienbad in downtown London is the place to go. I am a born and raised Londoner and this is by far my favourite restaurant in town and has been for the last 20 years. The weinershniitzel is always excellent as is the Caesar salad. The prices are reasonable and the service has always been... more
This is an unassuming place, but the food is quite good and reasonably priced. I only wish that they had some Canadian craft brews on the menu.
First time in London in 20 years. Nice to find a restaurant we used to frequent when we lived there still around and still serving the same wonderful food at reasonable prices. In town for a concert in June and stayed an extra night to check out or old home town. Nice to find the same menu items we remembered.... more
There were 3 of us on a Tuesday evening for dinner. We sat on the patio, and were the only ones there for most of our evening. Two women came later. We felt rushed, and our bill came as soon as she cleared our plates. We were going to have another drink, but the messages seemed clear. It was time... more
First time for me eating at Marienbad Restaurant. Was there for a late dinner with friends while visiting London for a high school reunion. Service was great and the server did a good job explaining the specials and giving food recommendations. Beer list is very extensive with reasonable prices, even for high-end rare imported bottles. The only complaint is that... more
I believe that the cleanliness of a restaurant's washrooms reflect the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room. Can you see where I'm going with this??!!
I went to the "Marienbad" with a friend before the theatre one night. The restaurant was a bit busy at the time we went, because the "theatre crowd" was there for a quick bite...

Over 30 years ago, I had my first date with my husband here. We came here for our rehearsal dinner. Now when I come back to town, I come here with my octogenarian parents. Food is consistent, service is excellent (many of the servers the same!), pleasant surroundings. It is a formula that works.
The food is ok at Marienbad, good but not great. It is a good place for the whole gang to go to for a good meal since its facilities allow large group tables. Marienbad Restaurant has been around for a long time. So just by its longevity you can see that it has alot going for it. It would not... more
I have been attending this restaurant since the 1970's. The quality is excellent, service is friendly. I have never been disappointed nor has anyone I've taken there. Good selection of beer. Schnitzel, goulash, rouladen and many more delicious choices. Streudel is the best. Comfortable surroundings. All round good restaurant.
A trip back home. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere take you to the Europe of old. Just like mom used to make. A true Czech experience. Schnitzel at its finest. Dessert crepes filled with cranberries tops the meal. A place to go to converse and enjoy people you love because the noise level is minimal and the traffic is low.
It was" schnitzelfest" when we went and the two of us were extremely disappointed. The food is clearly pre-fab and cooked from frozen. My schnitzel was twice the size of my partners...terrible portioning! We believe the goulash was chunky beef soup with paprika added to it. The service was the only highlight, but then we were the only people in... more
Very good food!!! Scnitzel and Rouladen were the best - try the mixed platter. Prices not bad for downtown London...great beer choices, excellent service and fantastic STREUDEL(hot raspberry sauce is pretty good too!!)
This is a restaurant I have frequented for years and years and years here! It is old world charm, with a warm decor, upscale but not fancy, and excellent food in the Austro-Hungarian style - they have wonderful Rouldaden and Schnitzel etc. The winning item on the menu for me though is their lone reputation call of Steak TarTar (ok... more
I ordered a schnitzel here and was extremely disappointed. Very bland. Vegetables tasted previously frozen. Definitely never going back.
Three couples went for dinner on a Saturday evening in November. The restaurant was busy but our service was impeccable and food delicious. We all enjoyed our meals and appetizers and desserts. The schnitzels were hot and crispy and portions generous. Definitely a great place to eat and still be able to talk . Lately, restaurants do not seem to... more
she ruined my self esteem, and the beer was great.....over all really nice place.
sincerely= fampy
This restaurant isn't cheap and the portions aren't big, but it is quality food. I only had a bad experience once with meat too tough to chew and the server disagreed and told me it was fine, but that was more than a decade ago.
I have had better meals at half the price. This place came highly recommended by a neighbour so we went for my birthday. The drinks are not generous. The portions of food were average. It's one of those places that seems past its prime, but the old regulars still frequent it because of what it once was and they are... more
Good food, very Euro inspired, great selection of beer.
We were a bit confused as to Chaucer's and the Marienbad, but it turns out the Marienbad is right next door and is more of the formal dining establishment. We ate at Chaucer's, which is actually the bar, and a very relaxed atmosphere. No smoking is allowed in the bar, which was nice. The service was great, the food was... more
The owner is a blast! She will tell you what you should order, compliment you on your appearance, ask you why you leave food on your plate, and describe any dish you may be unsure leaving you in no doubt that you HAVE to try it! Some (younger?) people may find her overwhelming but, wow! I want to be just... more
If it is a hearty Hungarian dish you want with friendly service this is the place.
Terrific
Excellent selection of beer on tap. Well prepared food. interesting building. My latest experience there was for a club Christmas gathering so there was limited menu but everyone was very pleased with their selections (Prime rib and Salmon). We are booking our party at the Marienbad next year too but I'm looking forward to going there for dinner soon.
A quaint and cosy little restaurant, with a sun filled courtyard where you can also enjoy your meal. Good food and lovely atmosphere!
Our family enjoyed the Marienbad Platter, Wiener Schnitzel, Goulash soup and Sauage Platter. Excellent variety of beers from around the world. Loved the "European feel" to the main dining room - cozy fireplace too.
Seems the portions have greatly shrunk for the Schnitzel Potatoes that were supposed to be fried I think were deep fried
Well run, always made to feel welcome, the soups are very good, food well prepared, reasonably priced
Love the schnitzel at Marienbad. Always consistent and love the wait staff.
Nice menu with middle European items and some vegetarian choices. Schnitzels were great and the Goulash soup very satisfying. Cesar salad was very good.
Service was prompt and friendly.
Nice selection of imported beers on tap and in bottle as well as a nice wine list
Nice quiet patio in warmer weather.
I had heard about the Marienbad for many years so when my relatives were in town and wanted to go to some nice restaurants, this is one that I suggested. They had the schnitzel and thought it was wonderful. I had the rouladen, but found it lacking. It was okay, just not as good as what I was hoping for.... more
Located on Carling Street, just east of Talbot Street, in the core of London, Ontario, despite its longevity, The Marienbad seems to be unknown to many, locals & visitors alike; that's a shame.
My wife & I have been regulars at this establishment for more than 2 decades! When we enter, it is akin to going into our own home;...

Our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere in this European style restaurant. For starters we dined on paté on pumpernickel and Brie fritters with raspberry sauce. Awesome! Warning: I'm going to run out of superlatives in this review. Madame had a glass of the excellent red house wine with the Schnitzel. She thoroughly enjoyed the crispness... more
When I was at the Marienbad, the entire restaurant was booked to celebrate a friend's birthday. The decor of the place was decent, more traditional looking and the Ambience was overall relaxing.
The menu we got was a set lunch menu, you can choose from fish and chips or chicken wrap and the dessert was brought in by the family...

Straight from a Czechish girl: If you are looking for something other than 'asian' for ethnic food, Marienbad is the tops.
Specializing in Eastern European food, such as famous Czech, German/Austrian and Polish dishes, this restaurant is classic for the foodie in you!
Also, while at Marienbad, try one of their authentic pivos (beer) from their gigantic selection.
Went on a Tuesday night. Not busy, but wait staff was courteous and efficient. Rib eye was a fairly cheap cut of meat but properly prepared. Rest of meal was spot on. Price was perhaps 10% higher than one might expect for similar meals in London, but was within reason.
Marienbad Restaurant offers these services: banquets, salles, réception, restaurant, banquet rooms, pubs.
European-themed restaurant and pub is housed in a historic building in the center of London and features a menu of world favorites. The eatery offers separate lunch, dinner, banquet and beer menus and has a warm and cozy interior. Dinner specialties include schnitzels, Hungarian goulash, beefsteak tartar and chicken paprikash.
