Gourmands will want to make a pilgrimage to the north part of the city to this market. Many locals prefer it over the Atwater market, perhaps because it's surrounded on all sides by the buzz and energy of the city. It's full of fresh fruits and vegetables and a host of gourmet shops. One, for instance, is the spice shop Olives & Épices, which Food & Wine magazine named the best of Montréal in... plus
Are there any markets like this in the US? No. They exist all over Europe though, as well as Asia, but the US has cut them all out. Here in LA there was a poor imitation of something like it with Grand Market, but now even that has been gentrified out of existence.
Anyhow, if you would like a permanent, big farmer's market combined bakeries, butchers, fishmongers, wine stores, as well as...

The best market in Montreal for sure. Amazing way to pass your time on a weekend.
All the produce is fresh and I would highly recommend the fisheries for fresh oysters.
Jean Talon Market: a sprawling oasis of colourful fresh produce and enticing food stalls, right in the middle of urban Montreal and open to the public. It's like a farmer's market and bazaar mixed in one, where you can buy your carrots and potatoes and then get some tacos if you feel like it.
While the produce looked lovely, as a tourist, I didn't have much of a chance to try out the local...

Famous market in Montreal. There are plenty of fresh and diverse veggies and fruits. And some food store in the center of market. We ate tacos and tarts which are yummy, but price is a little bit high.
The corns were very juicy and sweet. Tried cranberry the first time. This is the most sour fruit I have ever ate. Good for making you keep away from sleepy.
Good place to be aware of the local...

After visiting touristic place like old Montréal, this place makes me feel like home, I wondered around for hours, attracted by varieties of local vegetables, cheese, bought samples of meats, pickled olives, sitting down with family to have a cup of coffee with choice of pastries is so relaxing. It's such a family friendly place, which makes you want to come back again.
This market a must visit for us.
It is delightful to walk through the place and admire the farm bounty that grows in the area.
Besides farm produce there are food stalls and food shops on the next block.
Parking in there underground facility is reasonable and safe. It does fill up very quickly!
There are street parking too in the neighborhood too.
My family and I usually visit Montreal every other year. We stay in the St.Henri neighbourhood literally .5 miles to Marché Atwater. Atwater is a quaint market, but I like coming to Marché Jean Talon. It reminds me of bazaar type of space, and also growing up in Japan we had similar type of markets). It is a market filled with produce vendors, assortment of eateries, awesome bakeries, maple... plus
We had the best time spending a few hours here in this local market. If you're visiting the area - there are plenty of options to enjoy during your stay in Montreal or to take home(checked bags). Some favorites were the specialty cheese shops , beautiful produce , artisan breads / desserts. I'd also recommend coming here for a unique brunch/ lunch / dinner. Eat with the locals , listen to live... plus
Best place to visit when in montreal!!! Fresh products all year long. Super charming!
I am in love with this market. It's so refreshing to see such a raw place in the midst of a hectic city. My favorite things to do here was people watch, eat oysters and eat the Turkish delights. Yummm. I highly recommend this spot for any tourist! Please check out my photos to get a feel for the market.
Who hasn't fallen in love with this top-notch market with delicious food and beautiful people and ambiance? Great prices on fresh farmed produce. Maple syrup and eggs are really good and well-priced too.
I was visiting the market and decided to stop here for brunch. I got the banana with caramel crepe. On the menu, it was priced by $7.83CAD. The lady asked me if I wanted whip cream. I said sure. When she told me my total was $11.50CAD, I was shock because it sounded way more than the two Canada taxes added. When I looked at the receipt, I saw that they charged me $2.18CAD for "extra" whip... plus
Definitely make a trip to Jean Talon Market while visiting Montreal. You'll see a bunch of vendors selling FRESH fruits and vegetables. I was able to sample fresh fruits from some vendors. The farmers market is pretty big so take some time to browse around. We also had a late breakfast at a bakery called "Première Moisson" while at Jean Talon. There's also other eateries that you can try as... plus
Wow, what and amazing marche. I traveled the metro on my adventure to this market and it was so easy to get here. I wondered around noticing the beautiful produce, places to eat, cheese, flowers and natural candles and essential oils. This will be my spot to get some natural aromatherapy for my home and not to mention artisan soap. I stopped for a bit and ordered a grilled cheese and ginger... plus
Jean Talon Market is worth visiting when in Montreal. It's not the biggest of markets, but still many eateries, fresh produce, and snacks to munch on. Great place to walk around and try different things.
Really yummy crepes!!! I tried the smoked salmon crepe. Ooh so good. I'm generally not a fan of savoury crepes but boy, this was yummmm!!! The fish tasted great too. Not too fishy!!
We visited last weekend from NYC and loved the Jean Talon Market. We spent an hour there sampling the food, tasting the smoothies and having a good time. People are friendly and parking was cheap. The people are friendly and the language barrier didn't effect us
Hands down, best gluten free crepes in Montreal. Not like finding gluten free crepes is an easy task anyway, but these guys use buckwheat flour, which despite its name does not contain gluten. Friendly service and even some cider on tap! Would recommend eating here before shopping at the Marche Jean Talon so that you don't shop hungry
In my opinion, the number one thing everyone who visits Montreal must go to.
Come with a bag for fresh fruit and veggies and an empty stomach to munch at the eateries there.
5* for me as it's a legit farmer's market right in the heart of the City!
Soo many stalls, including eateries, produce, stuff like handmade Maple Syrup Candles/soaps, flowers/plants, herbs, honey, etc. Like the other reviewers have mentioned, there aren't a whole lot of meat/dairy, but there's enough places + a lot of other places around the outskirts of the actual Market.
Great place for...

It was a sunny Sunday morning and we trekked up from centreville for brunch.
Choices overwhelmed the entire family.
Sweet and savory crepes
Croissants, plain chocolat or ham and cheese.
Fresh fruits.
Super people and ambiance
Go today everyone is sure to find something fantastic!
This market is amazing. It puts all other farmer's market to shame. All the freshest fruits and vegetables can be found here. You can even sample and taste how fresh the fruit is.
I made my way to Boucherie Des Terroirs and was eyeing their rotisserie chicken. As usual, it had a consistent line which is always a great sign. In the end, I opted for the poutine with chicken. It was heavenly. The...

My daughter had the Banana-Chocolate crepe and enjoyed it. She said it was good, like street food good but if you need the "dessert crepe fix" maybe you can skip this.
Excellent crêpes at Jean Talon market...the wait was long but it was worth the wait! The vegan buckwheat crepe was very flavourful with mushroom, spinach, potatoes and Swiss cheese. Certainly worth a stop for lunch or brunch while at the market.
What a great place. This market has everything. Fruits, veggies, baked goods, roasted chicken and seafood. NO matter what time of day you visit, there is something there for you. We were visiting from the US and I was hesitant to bring back any fruits an veggies though all of them looked and smelled great. I visited on the morning before heading back to the US so I only grabbed a coffee and... plus
Markets like Jean Talon make me wish I lived in Montreal just so I could go here on the regular. They have a large variety of produce and a flower market. I love walking around markets like these and exploring around. I feel like a local! The market also has shops and restaurants on the surrounding areas. There's a great seafood place right in the front across the oyster bar. We shared some... plus
Great market. So many options when it comes to, butchery, fruit and vegetable vendors. Food choices include BBQ, seafood, ice cream, Middle Eastern desserts, sushi and roast chickens. I just picked a lobster and they cooked and cracked it for me.
Marché Jean-Talon is well known for its open-air market where produce, meats, seafood, and floors are sold. The price is reasonable compared to the general marché such as LGA or C. There is a food court near the entrance of the market; actually there are multiple entrances as it is an open market. It was not busy on the day of my visit, but many tourists were going through the market buying... plus
This was close to the airbnb I stayed at during my first trip to Montreal, so I had a chance to get my breakfast in this area. I loved exploring the aisles particularly where they sold fresh flowers. The vendors were friendly and helpful.
The area was clean and had a vibrant atmosphere.
A decent sized farmers market that I want to return to because they have several producers selling reasonable and delicious maple products in different grades to bring home. They even have the apple butter spread that is close to what we were looking for. They also have very knowledgeable sellers that explained their products for us to make a decision which are best for us.
Also sold were lots...

I love visiting food markets when I travel!
Jean Talon Market is no exception. It's both an indoor and outdoor market, and it offers everything from fresh produce and bread to flowers, food stands, and small shops.
It's a little bit smaller than other markets I've been to, but Jean Talon Market is still a cute area with plenty to see and eat.
A lot of the people who come here are locals, not...

Jean Talon is literal foodie heaven! Indoor and outdoor shops loaded with fresh fruits, meats, breads, flowers, food stands, coffee, and the list goes on... It's truly a great way to experience all of the diversity and culture that beautiful Montreal has to offer all in one space. We grocery shopped, explored, stuffed our faces with poutine and enjoyed the liveliness and everyday scenes here.... plus
I love Jean Talon and it's one of my favorite things about Montreal. Tons of fresh fruit and veggies, flowers and plants, and a wonderful assortment of food to eat there or take on a picnic. Our favorites are the pork tacos along the central walkway, and the oyster counter (they all taste the same to us, haha, but I'm sure other people have opinions about the different varieties). There are... plus
Love these big public markets filled with fresh and varied vegetables, fruit, bakeries and stalls selling snack food like pastries or empanadas. We ate breakfast there and bought veggies to make a dinner salad. One of the sellers told us about Montréals ice cider made of apples and introduced to us different varieties of apples. He gave us samples and we ended up buying a basketful of empire... plus
One of the best stands at marche jean talon but it's pricey for what you get. Their best crêpe is the one with smoked salmon. Worth a try
Stopped in here on a rainy afternoon and it was not too busy. This place is tucked into one of the wings of the Jean Talon market. There are 6 or so tables next to the counter. The woman behind the register had such a warm and kind energy and I thoroughly believe that good kind people make the best food. I ordered the banana chocolate crepe and WOOOOO. It was phenomenal. The crepe was soft and... plus
Had a ham, cheese, mushroom and bechamel crepe. It had a buckwheat base just like the crepes in Paris. The crepe was crisp and light. The filling was generous. It was a meal in itself. Pricey as it came out to $15+ including taxes without any drink. I find the food in Montreal to be way more pricey than in Toronto.
I like it but i like St Lawrence Market in Toronto better. We tried the oysters and crepes...both good! It is at the end of a metro line. We just took the metro from old montreal.
For fans of farmers markets and fresh produce, Marche Jean-Talon is a must visit in Little Italy. Even on a Sunday, there were plentiful vendors and the hours are excellent as it's often open until 6 pm.
The layout is very straightforward with similar vendors together and while there is solid variety, it's heavily emphasized on fresh produce. We loved the fruit samples of pears and apples but...

I wish I lived closer to this market. The first thing you notice is all the wonderful colors. From the flowers to the fresh fruits and veggies, everything about this makret was fantastic. Try the pastel de natas, they were amazing!! Bought half a dozen to take home, but they never made it home. There is a great but place at one of the ends where the woman blends spices with walnuts and almonds... plus
I was here YEARS ago and I still crave their crêpes!
This place is located in like a giant farmers market (which is wonderful by the way). I've always had sweet crêpes, only because I didn't know savory crêpes were a thing at the time. Don't get me wrong, a crêpe with Nutella and bananas and strawberries - I could live off that heavenly combination.
I believe the crêpe I got had ham, cheese...

I very much enjoyed this market and the wide variety of local eats available here. I can't think of a better place for people to sample different tastes of Montreal. I was here for breakfast and had some excellent local apple cider with a delicious crepe made right before me and there were tons of other great options available all around as well.
Wonderful farmers market in Montreal!! My eyes and tummy were drawn to the bakery and sweets vendors. If that is not your thing, then you will also find vendors selling plants, produce, and other traditional farmers market products.
There are some picnic tables to sit at so that folks can munch on their goodies. Marché Jean-Talon is a fine spot to go for one stop shopping. Worth checking out.
This was one of the must see places to go for first timers. This huge covered market is Montreal's most diverse selection of produce, lots of shops, stalls and places to eat. I was not so impressed.
I've been to Christmas Markets in Europe, Granville Market in Vancouver, The Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia which had way more produce, restaurants and shops.
So I was a little...

Absolutely amazing food experience! All crepes are gluten free and they have egg free options as well. Very friendly staff and cute location. Ended up eating there two days in a row since it was the best gluten free option we found!
This outdoor market is a bit of a trek from Old Town but it's conveniently located near a metro station.
There are stalls as far as the eye can see with an abundance of fresh produce, seafood, pastries and other tasty delectables. I love that this market is quite clean and organized. Some things that caught my eye were the fresh oysters and exotic mushrooms. I ended up trying a Portuguese egg...

Creperie du marche is located inside a local market and has the local touch for the ambience of it. A different kinda dinning here. A fast food type of service and they have picnic tables right in front of the counter or you sit inside the tent with few tables n chairs.

Located in an actual real neighborhood of Montreal, it was quite easy to get to off of at least two differnt Metro lines and then maybe about a 1/2 a mile walk. Rows and rows of fresh produce and vegtables, meats, some cooked foods, maple syrup, soap, and chocolate. Surrounding the market itself were small eateries that ranged from Mexican to seafood to baked goods. It was so much fun just... plus
Their crepe for some reason looks more dark than what I've seen usually. I've tried the crepe with apple, ham, cheese, and maple syrup. The combination looks weird but it tastes so good! The flavor is very balanced. The staff there said this is one of the most popular dishes they have.
This crepe place is located in Jean Talon Market but it's so good it deserves it's own review! The crepes here are just like the ones I had in Paris. They are made from 100% buckwheat flour so they are gluten free yet still manage to taste light, crispy and buttery at the same time. The savory crepes are the perfect vehicle for ham and cheese but I also love the smoked salmon filling. They are... plus
Cute and organized market that has many options to eat if you are hungry I walked around the farmer's market and everything was neat and looked fresh. I ventured to a small cafe for a Portuguese egg tart paired with a espresso. The egg tart was sweet and soft. I also ordered a St. Viateur bagel with cream cheese. The bagels there are denser and chewier than the ones I'm used to. Lastly, I tried... plus
A lovely farmer's market. Great lavender products and smoothies.
This marche reminds me of the markets of Europe -- local produce, flowers and goods. Some of the vendors carry maple syrup and other goodies to bring home. Buy a baguette, a hunk of unpasteurized cheese and some fruit then head to a nearby park for a faintly Parisian experience.
Phenomenal - I adore this place to distraction! Not only for the fruits/ veggies/ wholesale nuts, and all sorts of local produce that you can get here, but also for the choice of good-value eateries around. Some items can be pricey, but you're getting quality, or they are unusual, hence not mass produced. You can shop for middle-eastern or asian food staples a few steps away - another bonus -... plus
This open market reminded me of the marche of France and Belgium. You can taste fresh fruits and vegetables before you buy them. The prices are so reasonable. Although you can not take fresh fruits and vegetables out of Canada due to the customs laws. One can purchase Maple Syrup and other canned or bottle items cheaper at the market than the airport shops.
Biggest market in Montréal and promoted as the biggest open air market in north america. Not so impressing if you know the markets in Europe and elsewhere but sill nice and great variety of products. Easy access by metro station Jean Talon.
awesome market !
Hi
It's a fantastic market all year round ! It's a must see place !. It's in the heart in little Italy (Rosemont/Petite Patrie neighborhood).

Foodies take note: This is the place everyone talks about. And adores.
