A hotbed for tourists, but still a spot for great finds such as Annie Michaud's blown glass, sold at L'Atelier-Boutique Gogo Glass.

Bonsecours Market is an imposing neoclassical building with a long facade, a colonnaded portico, and a silvery dome. It was built in the mid-1800s -- the Doric columns of the portico were cast of iron in England -- and first used as the Parliament of United Canada, and then as Montréal's City Hall until 1878. The architecture alone makes a brief visit worthwhile. For many years after 1878, it... plus

Just across the road from the old port. Very grand looking building, you wouldn't guess it hosts a souvenir market. Several stores selling the usual Canadian and Montreal souvenir stuffs. Such as a bear on a t-shirt saying 'I sleep bear naked' or a bear chasing a man - 'Canadian fast food'. Some gimmicky stuff, but fun to look at. Only expect tourists to come here. All the maple tree products... plus

Passed through here very briefly on my most recent trip to Montreal, and if ever there was a story about incongruous outsides v insides, this is it. It's an absolutely incredible building, historic, stately, imposing, and with a patina that lets you know it's been here a while. I really love the edifice itself. On the inside, though, while still lovely, it's just surprising that it's a... plus

When you see this building you'd think it was anything but a little shopping mall. But if you go inside on a hot summer day it's a great place to cool down, do a little shopping, and grab a bite to eat or drink and just relax a little. We stopped in for a little rest between checking out a few local museums and taking a walk along the waterway. There is a nice mix of locally made wares, food,... plus

Wait a second!!! This place is a rats nest. Not one boutique, not one gallery. I walked a long while to be so disgusted and disappointed. Maple syrup is the best thing you will find here and you can find that anywhere. I am shocked that Fodors has this place as a destination. It's huge silver dome makes you think you are in for a treat, but wow you will be wowed by the desolation. If you like... plus

Very disappointing as it is almost all empty and consists of shops with cheaply made items that you can purchase on the internet for cheaper and a few restaurants. Based on the info for this place, we were expecting more. The port just a little walk away offers so much more.

Great looking building. There's not much inside, though. Basically it's some okay souvenirs. Nothing too exciting. There are actually some pretty nice art galleries on the walk here from the train stop, though.

I popped in here while in town on my "mini-moon" with my husband. It's really just a mall in a very nice building. The boutiques were okay but nothing really stood out. If you're in the area and have time to kill it's worth walking through but I wouldn't add it to a list of "must see" places in Montreal.

This is a great place to buy souvenirs if you are touring the Old Montreal area. We went on a Sunday so a lot of the shops were closed and only the main floor was accessible but it was a good stop to stock up on Maple items, we bought maple fudge, maple creme chocolate bars and cookies for souvenirs to take home. The prices are fair and they looked like gourmet maple products unlike those you... plus

It's a grand, historic, and attractive building as seen from the outside, but there's really little to see and do inside. It's just a very compact array of third-rate stores and souvenir shops, and you can stroll through in the course of a few minutes.

For someone like me who's usually unnecessarily and/or redundantly loquacious, there's really that little to say about it - good or bad.

Highly disappointing. The building itself is a striking part of Old Montreal... but the facility is wasted on the stores inside. Looking forward to interesting art, food, and clothing vendors, the few outdated women's clothing stores and overpriced (not to mention politically incorrect) souvenir shops were underwhelming and disappointing. Until this fabulous piece of architecture is put to... plus

This place has picked up since I was last there. It seems nicer.I recommend trying the samples of the cider maker who's there.Quebec Cider has a long tradition and is making a comeback after sliding into unpopularity. The range of styles is genuinely impressive. There are also some knick knack stores that have decent looking stuff and a few restaurants and cafes.Nice place to sit !

The Marché Bonsecours is a beautiful shopping center located inside a historical heritage building first inaugurated in 1847 and that in 1849 was used as the parliament of United Canada.
From 1852 to 1878 the building hosted Montréal's City Hall and was the main public market for a century, before being finally designated national as of national historic significance for Canada in 1984.

Wasn't too impressed.

Was told it was a nice location to visit with a market inside. The building itself was a standard building, nothing spectacular. There were hints of old-french styling, but it was pretty modern.

Fantastic collection of unique, upscale boutiques in Old Montreal. I can imagine that it would be fairly crowded on a rainy day. There are general boutiques on the ground floor, and various halls on the 2nd floor. I do believe that the 2nd floor halls are only open to the public occasionally when there are events/booths up there, since there was only access to the 1st floor when we visited. The... plus

While most boutiques here were too expensive to catch my interest, I had to share my discovery of outlet-worthy prices you can find at Marché Bonsecours for Montreal-based brand, 'Mat & Nat'. Reviewing this building for its architectural significance to the city of Montreal:
This stately building served as both a Canadian parliament building and as Montreal's City Hall in the mid-1800's, and it was the city's primary public market for the following century. It was designated a Canadian National Historic Site in the 1900's.
