I will never forget the day when I found a box of Daskalides chocolates in my mailbox. This is by far the BEST chocolate that has ever passed through my lips. Beautifully balanced, smooth creams punctuated with flavor supreme. You cannot go wrong with this selection of Belgian chocolates to impress a sweetheart or for your own decadent indulgence!
Stopped in several times during my last visit to St. John's. Had lunch and pick up pasryies and brownies. Everything was fresh and tasty. They also have ice cream bars and sodas and make good coffee. Good place for a nice fresh sandwich for lunch, or grabbing snacks for a hike or sightseeing adventure.
Treat yourself or someone else. Anything you could ever need or want in a baked good can be found here
I was going to Manna's all the time and spending quite a bit of money there. A few times I went there and in the show case were these fresh fruit tarts with a chocolate on top. So I tried them....liked the tart and proceeded to order them no less than 3 times plus buy them whenever I saw them... more
The bread and the ingredients are always fresh. There is a wide variety of sandwiches available. I've eaten here a number of times and never been disappointed.
I try to go to Manna as much as I can. In my opinion, their 'chicken breast on pretzel sandwich' is the best sandwich I have ever had. Get there early to get a sandwich as they sell out fast. They now serve it every day of the week (it used to only be on weekdays). Great atmosphere! It's a... more
I love this place to eat! their sandwiches are great, but i do have a few issues with this place
1. The service is mostly awful!!! some of the staff seem upset your there, and are not overly eager to help
2. You ask for a Roast Beef Sandwich (for example), but if you want cheese its extra (most places cheese is part of the sandwich), and then its extra for a few carrots and olives (or whatever...

2nd visit not much better than 1st. Bread was old, stale, place is dirty, service stinks. Not European at all. I've had the catering before, it's ok. But to physically go there-yuck
Love the Chicken Sandwich on Pretzel Bread! They also make an incredibly good Gluten Free Chocolate Cake!
I ordered sandwiches, veggie trays and assorted cookies and squares to be delivered for a volunteer thank-you event with about 40 people. The veggie trays and cookies were excellent, the sandwiches were very good. Delivery was efficient and right on time. Ordering in advance was easy online, and staff were available to answer questions before I ordered. They supplied extra... more
I enjoy the sandwiches very much from the bakery, I'm lactose intolerant so unfortunately I cannot enjoy the baked goods they provide however my friends say they are to die for. I love the pretzel bread! So delicious! The bakery is tiny, so I find it is usually pretty cramped because it is a busy location. The line is slow... more
The service is consistent and amazing, even when there is a line up they are efficient and the food is worth the wait! You are treated like an important customer everytime you walk in. Their choices of extremely fresh bread is impeccable , along with their varieties of fresh rotisserie meats and home cooked lunch and supper specials. To top... more
The food is very great. I had the breaded chicken breast sandwich on pretzel bread, it was the best breaded chicken ever. The store need some update in the menu especially the coffe. The seating area need to be cleaned more often during busy hours.
Was very disappointed. I am from Holland and was looking, especially at Christmas time, for Dutch and German Holiday Bread and treats, which were not offered.
The deli had very limited selection and not from western Europe.
Food is excellent, but the customer service is terrible. Staff are rude, make snide remarks and do not treat the customers very well at all. Clearly I am not the only person who feels this way.... more
I just had breakfast, before the rush of fanatically loyal customers jam Manna's for lunch. Breakfast is a serve yourself continental feast for $5.00. Great coffee, fresh fruit, your choice of buns, pastries, muffins and juice. I am hooked and will be going here every time I am in St. John's. The service is exemplary, warm and relaxed. Mind you... more
My co-workers and I really enjoy lunch at Manna. The breaded chicken breast sandwich on pretzel bun is the best!
The sandwiches are about the best you'll find in St. John's. Fresh bread, meats and veggies. What more could you ask for. However, a major downfall is the complete lack of feeling welcomed. It's a hostile envrionment with staff not even cracking a smile and mostly bickering at each other on the two occassions which I visited. The way they... more
I should start by saying I hate line ups especially slow moving line ups! The breaded chicken sandwich on pretzel bread is soooo good that I stand in that slow moving line up. It is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The line up however is the definitely the downfall to this bakery/deli.
Came here once, will never be back. $20 for 2 dried out, poorly prepared sandwiches, and a bottle of pop. Terrible food, extremely overpriced, slow service, terrible customer service. If I could leave 0 stars, I would have.
Ordered a birthday cake in person yesterday for pick up at 4:00 today. Called to say I was on my way to pick it up. They never made it, no explanation, no phone call just total incompetance. Avoid this place.
Too expensive for simple deli foods, often poor service (not always). Food is okay not great.
The breads are the best!! Sandwiches are tender and again the homemade bread is worth it. The only downfall is the line-ups given its popularity expect a wait.
We had 2 sandwiches with cheese and it came to $16.69 with tax, so it isn't cheap but they were tasty - we got there around 11:30 on a Wednesday and there were a few people ahead of us, by the time we sat down to eat the line up was all the way around the store!
This place is a happening spot lunch time! Its a bit pricey but the breads are delicious and its the best breaded chicken sandwich I have ever had in my life! I highly recommend it.
Get there early because these don't last very long!! They are usually all out shortly after noon.
sorry but if this is st john’s famous sandwich place/deli then u guys are in trouble~
Always loved Manna and am a frequent customer. The food is delicious, but I will not be ordering there anymore. I order there every weekend that I work, and get somebody to pick it up for me and deliver. Now they have enforced a policy whereby you can order ahead of time and pick up anything on the menu except... more
I went to pick up a sandwich for lunch which was made to order while I waited. I also pick up a tray of yogurt/granola bars. My sandwich bread was very fresh, but the turkey was dry; and I found the pre-packaged bars to be dry as well.
Love the Breaded chicken breast on whole wheat pretzel bread. Go early to avoid disappointment, there is often a line-up by 12:15 and they may run out of chicken breast.
It's a quaint little small deli that offers the yummiest pickles and the best chicken burger I have ever tasted!
we always stop in & pick up fresh bread on our way home from work. you will not be disappointed & they have a great selection & lots of sweets also
This is one great place! The sandwich was truly amazing and so satisfying!
While I was happily munching on my sandwich I could hear other people thank Manna for the good food they enjoyed. I totally agree. The portions were good and healthy.
You must try it!
The bread and other baked goods are great, but you shouldn’t have to wait over 15 minutes in line for a bloody sandwich. Come on.
I really love their sandwiches, particularly their roast turkey. They do skimp however on the veggies and they could go a little heavier with the meat servings for the price they charge. Every time I go they are usually out of one veggie at least.
Food was great 5/5, the staff serving me were pretty rude. It was my first time there so I was asking about what my options were in terms of cheeses, breads, etc, things that I couldn’t find listed on the menu. Every honest question was scoffed, huffed and eye rolled. Sorry I’m not a pro at the deli…
Great place for a quick lunch, or breakfast (they offer a $5.00, taxes in, continental breakfast!). I split a crispy chicken sandwich on pretzel bread and it was enough for me.
They have a great selection of desserts and freshly baked breads as well.
this place has gone to pot! I remember when they started they were the best in town – that was too long ago now.
Poor baked sweets, never consistent. Poor staff – don’t seem to have a clue about customer service. And the place looks like a dump – it needs a good cleaning and reorganization.
Sorry Manna, your ship has sailed!
I know this is a review section and not a discussion forum, but I really have to respond to the above comment.
LOVE the sandwiches from Manna. My personal favourite is roast turkey on multigrain, or breaded chicken on pretzel. The prices are a tad high, but I don’t particularly mind because it’s locally owned, fresh, and delicious. Also, a relatively healthy lunch option.
I’d recommend sneaking out a little earlier than noon since the lunch rush can mean a 15 minute wait in line. Though I’ve heard...

I find most of the staff working there now is very good. I go there a couple times a week for bread or a dessert and once and a while pick up a sandwich. I agree that they could use more veggies for their sandwiches and that their prices are expensive for what you get, but they’re nice sandwiches on fresh bread, so that’s a bonus. I looove their fresh rye bread.
I have always found the staff quite jubilant from Manna European Bakery & Deli. Even the lunar bread-shaped rock in the display case (visible from the free parking lot) which is alleged to have been donated to Manna’s Tatianna by some outlandish chap connected with a ‘shuttle lunch’ some months and months ago, endearing one to the joys of out-of-this... more
The only way I would go back here for lunch is if they slashed their prices in half. There was nothing particularly wrong with the food, but 13 bucks for a cafeteria-style soup and sandwich (no drink) is insanse. What you basically get for that price is 2 slices of bread (more $ for any type of “specialty bread”), slice of cheese, very limited selection of veggies, mayo or mustard. Small paper... more
Let's be clear about what this is and what this isn't. It is a bakery/sandwich shop/deli next to an auto parts store close to the Avalon Mall and O'Leary industrial estate. It seems to be doing ok at this and is a popular lunch spot for local workers. It seems clean and the sandwiches look good, the croissants I tried... more
We go for the sandwiches and the friendly chats. Your choice of fresh meats , vegetables and condiments on delicious breads , buns, bagels or soft pretzels all baked daily on the premises.
Muffins and cookies to satisfy the sweetest teeth.
Speciality breads and cakes available to order as are sandwich trays for parties and meetings.
I have been away from St. John's for six years, and still have not found bread as good as the bread at Manna. The roast chicken sandwich (with banana peppers) is the best anywhere.
Lovely deli sandwiches and very pleasant, clean surroudings for lunch. I like to go there for a treat. Their breads are awesome, coffee is good and now they have pastries too. Yummy.
I just wanted to thank you so much for the wonderful cake. My son was totally surprised and had no idea where it came from ! He said it was so huge and loaded with icing and was just awesome !!!! He really enjoyed it. Thanks so much for your excellent service. It really made my son's day as he... more
I go to Manna because the food is delicious. I especially like the sandwiches. They are prepared in front of you so you know exactly what you are getting.. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The eating area is clean and bright. People who go to Manna enjoy the relaxed atmosphere which makes conversation easy and comfortable.
From the moment...

Best molasses raisin bread on the planet, especially when the crust is still soft. So far I have never had a bad experience with the staff. They have always been very accommodating.
Manna is a good place to grab a sandwich, a bowl of soup or a loaf of bread. Check it out if you're in the neighbourhood.
Try Paradise Bakery Bread, you can get it at Sobeys on Merrymeeting road and also at the North Atlantic on the corner of Adams and Pennywell…best homemade bread in the city….
Awesome rye bread. But yeah the people working there seem depressed.
Yeah, if it weren’t that Manna is my neighbourhood bakery AND that we are addicted to Old World Grain bread I WOULD NEVER set foot in there again. I HATE HATE HATE having to go in there. The service is terrible and the few times I’ve seen the owner interact with the staff I cringe – he grunts and snaps at them and gives no one positive feedback so the staff don’t know what they are doing if... more
I used to frequent Manna on a regular basis but had not been there for over a year. I went there recently and had an awful chicken salad sandwich. It was full of knuckles and and the mayo was like water. I usually give places a second chance after a bad food but I am not sure I will go there again. Very disappointed. I also think the service is terrible.
Manna has some great baked goods. Their raisin bread is the best that I have tried in the city. However, the service there is terrible. Also, sometimes the bread I buy there goes bad 1-2 days after buying it.
Manna has REALLY good products, but if you find the staff stressed out/grumpy or whatever, try working there. Owner is terriable, makes everyone that way.
HAHAHAHA. someone should let them know, maybe it would help sales!! maybe they need a non-confidence vote.
I have to make a lot of catering calls for work and this has to be the most difficult place to work with. I have no idea what is wrong with the staff but someone needs to look into it.
OMG, this place has some of the moodiest people working there. I don’t like going there now. :(
The food is great, but one girl (20ish?) that always works there is really grumpy! Cheer up!
I've only ever had their Tuna salad sandwiches on Pumpernickel bread. I'll keep coming back, just for them. Big portion. Lots of choices for cheese and a hefty helping of side veggies.
Awesome sandwiches, but the service could be friendlier
Delicious lunch sandwiches. I haven't tried any of their other offerings. I did buy cookies there one time and they were stale. I was not impressed.
