we were a party of six and they accommodated us, by moving diners around. it was busy but still relaxed. love the casual ambiance. the menu is a bit difficult to understand but the wait staff were very good at filling in the gaps. i ate the smoked sturgeon eggs benedict and it was the best i have ever eaten... more
The Jamie Oliver trained chef working with locally sourced Quebec ingredients is creating a culinary delight for patrons. The food is unpretentious, but delicious and inventive. We were a large group and were provided a tasting menu. Every dish was fabulous, the service warm and attentive and the atmosphere relaxed and festive. The lamb tartar with mint and maple pudding... more
I honestly don't know where to begin as each course seemed to build my expectations and I was not disappointed.
We allowed our menu to be selected for us and we delighted in the surprise! As each course was served we also had the appropriate wine delivered to our table!
The desert was the crowning glory and my mouth still...

We scored a reservation day before we arrived in Montreal. We arrived to an early seating (6:30)and glad we did as the place was packed when we left ( around 9). Chef/ owner at the bar when we arrived, very casual and warm welcome. We opted for the tasting menu as we just couldn't decide! Our server was very knowledgeable... more
We especially wanted to eat in a good place as we were inviting friends out, we were 6 people, 3 of which were not very hungry and asked to order just one "plate"...The only menu was on the wall in the other rooms and we had no idea if quantities, was a plate starter size or main? The owner was... more
Great food and atmosphere! Love the family style servings. Looking forward to visiting again, many more items we'd like to try!
Always great pleasure to seat there and having delight brunch
Keep going , because I will keep coming
N.B: the night menu is excellent too
Excellent restaurant, the chef with simple ingredients, most made at the restaurant, made perfect starter plates, as well as incredible entrees. Must try!!!
We went there for a brunch to celebrate a birthday!!! It was supposed to be fun but it was a total disaster!! There is nothing that can be change on the menu. they didn!t even have a traditional brunch were you can choose. For example the pancakes were moussshi and the maple syrup was like a teaspoon of it on the... more
We have been to Maison Publique on 2 occasions for brunch and it is the best we have had in Montreal (and we have eaten at a number of the top rated brunch restaurants). Derek (the owner and chef) lived for a number of years in the UK and worked with Jamie Olivier where he developed the ability to create... more
My husband and I had an excellent brunch at this charming spot in the plateau. We arrived around 12.30 and while the place was packed, we got a table for two right away. We loved the decor - classic British pub with plenty of quirky Canadian touches - and the food was outstanding. We both had bottomless cups of delicious... more
Ok, it was just a saturday brunch, so probably the menu was no very rich.
However, we ate rather well (not much, actually), loved the interior design, appreciated the atmosphere ad found the bill too expensive compared to what we had.
Maison Publique is definitively a 'concept restaurant' - be ready to enter its world.
Montreal is fortunate to have such a collaboration with Jamie Oliver and Derek Dammann ! The food was top notch, excellent wait staff and my 10 year old foodie daughter is asking to go back for her birthday to eat the Welsh rarebit and Eton Mess ! Hands down one of the best English pub/ local corner resto in the... more
Went as a group and a sampling menu was served. If you hate seafood, then you are out of luck as the first 3 courses or so are only fish and seafood. Served family style, guests have to carve the fish and serve it themselves, but no serving utensils are on the plate.
The pork chop was dry. The only...

Have had several good dining experiences here the last few months. They cash in on the tapas trend I've been seeing popping up at every restaurant in town, but they do it really well. The food and service is casual but excellent, with only a rare occasional misfire (one night my table unanimously voted down the oyster, and on my... more
I found Maison Publique to be very lively and friendly, and the food was better than excellent. I tried three different appetizer-sized dishes, and each was perfectly prepared, creative and delicious. Service was cordial, friendly and efficient. A good place, glad I found it.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner and drinks at Maison Publique last night. We'd been looking forward to trying out this local culinary addition to our neighborhood. We didn't quite know what to expect having read many mixed reviews.
If you're looking for beer and chicken wings, this is not the place for you. The emphasis is on...

Brunch for two was fun and good value. Bone marrow, sausage, blood sausage, bacon, pork chop, beans, cabbage, potatoes, fried egg, and toast. 20$. Beverages were pricy, coffee like 3.50, coke was 4$. Service was very friendly, and laid back. Decor is awesome and quaint. Menu changes so this place will stay fresh for a long time.
We went here recently on a snowy night. No reservations are taken, so it's first come, first served. The waitress was a delightful young lady who went through the whole menu with us (it's printed on the wall, most of the dishes to the right were plates to share, then 4 plates of main course if you want (alone or... more
During a recent visit to Montreal, we sought out Maison Publique since it was highly touted in a magazine article. Friends drove an hour to meet us. The menu came on a piece of cash register tape and was extremely limited. Brunch for two ($40) included a pork chop, marrow bone, blood pudding--nothing that appealed to us. Quiche Lorraine was... more
I have been to maison publique twice, most recently last night. Both times, I experienced excellent, casual service, really good food, and good atmosphere (last night they were playing indie hits from the '90s.) All ingredients, beer, and wine are Canadian, which is laudable (and they have a good selection of the latter!)
Last night we ordered the special -...

Its not British pub fare as advertised.
They are trying to be a gastro pub but failing miserably
Before we got our food this place already had several strikes for bad welcome , communication of menu , unsafe washroom entrance. It did not get better as the food was overspiced and served with no sauces... Very few choices and badly...

I read some of the negative reviews and almost chose not to go to Maison Publique. I was fortunate to dine at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen a number of years ago when Derek was cooking along side some of the best people in London, including Jamie himself. I'm glad I went. From the moment we walked in to the final spoon... more
A Great Place for all Non Pretentious people ......
I have been to this restaurant many times since opened October 2012. With family members, clients, alone ...and each time the staff been supper friendly as well accommodating and food out of this world. I might add that most times we had to wait ,however we made best of it ...with a Cask...

As the name would suggest La Maison Publique is trying to be what the Brits call a gastro pub, and if I lived in the Plateau neighbourhood I am sure it might become my local, however, this is NOT a destination restaurant it is a hipster bar in a hipster neighbourhood.
Beer and wine selection was limited with the wine...

I am baffled at how rude the male host was in this restaurant. I understand this is a busy place and has lots of buzz but there is no need to act like you are better than every person that walks in the door. While we waited for our table, I watched him be rude to every person that walked... more
I was hesitant to try the Maison Publique, being a "no reservations" kind of place, especially on a Friday night. Well, we tried anyway and were rewarded. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we placed our name on the list and proceeded to a near by bar or a great Pisco cocktail, having a one hour wait time to kill. 15... more
One of the most talented chefs in town has scored another winner with his new upscale pub, a delight from start to finish. How wonderful it is when it ALL works: the look, the textures, the service, the menu, the wine list (boldly Canadian), the beer...all orchestrated by the genial presence of Chef Derek. Pork bellies, squid and crab, luscious... more
I went there for a drink with friends. I did not know that they were expecting us to eat as well! Fortunatelty we did not have to order anything but the least they could have done is to tell that we HAD to eat. In their web site, the word "BAR" is written...We only had beer as the wine was... more
Fantastic room. Could be wonderful. The overall impression is that they aren't all that concerned if you're there or not. Maybe they are trying to provide casual service but this shouldn't be confused with bad service. Ex: two servers talking with the bartender (who was our server as we were sat at the bar). I make eye contact with one... more
Fact: it's not uncommon to wait 45-60 minutes for a popular brunch spot in Montreal. What I liked was that Maison Publique will take a mobile number and give you a call, so you can enjoy a walk around the neighbourhood. Good thing, since the entrance area is not particularly spacious.
Service: Was friendly enough and reasonably quick.
Vibe: Extremely...

The only thing you need to know about this place is that the kitchen closes at 10:30, a bit unusual for Montreal. They don't take reservations either. Definitely worth going. Our first try was late on a thursday night: At 10:25 we were told 'no, sorry', since they close the kitchen at... 10:30. OK, whatever, better luck next time.
Second try on a Friday night. 7:15 pm... full house... of course, no reservations means everybody tries to be there at 6:00. There is...

Headed out this evening to maison publique; expectations were high...alas we were extremley disappointed.

Loved the atmosphere and the place, very warm and welcomy. A little complex to get a place, they don't take reservations and you have to physically pass by at 6 to get a table, which is not always feasible. Food is very good and portions are generous. Had a great meal last night, you must try the crab trifle, will not disappoint. Loved the decor, the atmosphere, the lighting, the crowd...music could be tweaked.
