Wonderful food experience. Walked through the Historic District and came across a wonderful Museum steps away from the MacKinnon Cann Inn. Walked down to the waterfront and spoke to local fisherman getting ready to go out for the daily catch. Drove out to the Cape to see a beautiful restored Lighthouse. The staff and Innkeeper helped make our stay perfect - we will return.
The innkeeper and co-owner, Neal, and his co-owner, Michael, were the best hosts that any guest could ask for. The inn was beautiful and meticulously maintained and decorated. It was great to be seated for breakfast and have both owners talk to us about their experiences in creating this beautiful inn. They kept us laughing and made us very comfortable.... more
We took the ferry over from Portland and stayed three nights in the 1940's room. The room was clean and comfortable. The inn was quite beautiful. We were able to take a peek at the other rooms before the other guests arrived. Neil was very friendly and accommodating. We showed up without much of a plan and he was able... more
My wife and I stayed at the MacKinnon-Cann Inn on Wednesday July 16th. We had travelled over on the NovaStar on Sunday July 20th and toured Nova Scotia going up the east coast stopping at Halifax then heading west to Wolfville, then down the west coast ending back in Yarmouth. The Inn has been beautifully restored and has all the... more
This B&B was pure luxury!! Beautiful rooms and excellent hosts, Neil and Michael. They also do fine dining nights at the Inn with awesome menus. We stayed one planned night Friday July 4 and one extra night because Hurricane Arthur came through Yarmouth, and our ferry trip back to Portland on Saturday July 5 was cancelled and rescheduled for the next day. We were traveling with two other couples, and we were all hopeful that our ferry would be cancelled so we could spend another... more
We had a wonderful stay at this carefully renovated Inn in the historic district of Yarmouth. The rooms are individually decorated with lots of eye for detail. Our short one night stay at the Mackinnon-Cann Inn earlier this month was exceptional. We had a lovely room, extremely well decorated in the "Queen Victorian" style. I'm not sure what I can add to the previous reviews. This inn is lovely in every way. We took the ferry from Portland, staying one night at the inn. (a) wonderful innkeeper at the top of his game. He went the extra mile to adapt to our needs/desires. breakfast was fresh, tasty and perfectly-timed for the outgoing Ferry.
(b) the rooms have pizzazz: they are cleverly decorated to evoke a particular decade. we stayed in the 1900s room, which sports a whirlpool bath.
(c) optimum location in a quiet...

Our children's first visit at the Inn was mid June 2014. Apparently, after leaving the bank card at home, they came off the boat on hope and prayer! Until funds could be received, the men were gracious enough to care for the girls with a sincere, loving generosity. The children report the Inn to be beautiful, and they've even been... more
It would be perfect if it had a king size bed. Neil was a fantastic host. The Inn is beautiful top to bottom. The breakfast was cooked to order, very tasty, fresh berries, just yummy. Definitely go back to this one.
What a wonderful surprise we found in store for us at the MacKinnon-Cann. We stayed overnight to catch the Nova Star ferry back to Portland in the morning. Neil was so welcoming and attentive and showed us around the Inn, including all of the rooms which are lovingly and spectacularly restored. Michael and I realized that we are the exact... more
We took the new ferry over to Yarmouth for a one day stay in Yarmouth. The ferry ride was great, the town was beautiful but by far the highlight of our trip was our stay with Neil and Michael at the MacKinnon-Cann Inn. As soon as we saw the inn we realized that this was not going to be the... more
Stayed at the Inn over the first May weekend of 2014. My wife and I wanted to get away and see some beautiful scenery. Neil was a wonderful host, had lots of ideas of things to do and of the hundreds of places we've stayed in over the years this was probably the most enjoyable. We liked it enough to... more
I have been staying at the MacKinnon Cann Inn for over four years and each visit is amazing - personal touches are why I keep going back. I feel at home, Neil and Michael are always welcoming! Let me start by saying: Until I stayed here, I had many reservations and concerns about staying at a Bed & Breakfast, anywhere.

The MacKinnon-Cann Inn experience starts out when you make your reservation, and the person on the other end of the phone is friendly and welcoming. Then you get there, and the curb appeal is sweet! Lovely old house, beautifully maintained. Even a handy unloading area in front of the door, so you aren't dragging luggage from the parking lot. The... more
We needed to find an inn open on the Christmas holidays, and were turned down by two or three bed and breakfasts. Our great fortune was that the MacKinnon-Cann Inn was probably the best place we could have stayed. The owners have restored four magnificent mansions in the centre of the city, dating from Yarmouth's era of prosperity in the... more
We have stayed in several highly-rated B&Bs throughout Nova Scotia over the past 10 days and found the Mackinnon-Cann Inn to be one of our absolute favourites! Went to Yarmouth to work but this place made it (almost) feel like a holiday. Great staff, went over and above in service and making life easier for me. Neil was a blast and I will definitely be back if I head out Yarmouth way again anytime soon! Lynn was awesome too, again, above and beyond, thanks guys!
This is a true jewel of a place to stay. Every complement you read is 100% spot on so I’m not sure what more I could add. The décor is nice and the food is excellent but what make this a truly wonderful experience are the owners and staff. They truly make you feel welcome to be in their home... more

We recently had a trip around the South Shore of N.S. and stayed at MacKinnon-Cann Inn in Yarmouth. Beautiful period rooms, very clean and welcoming. I have food and environmental sensitivities and our host came through for me with flying colors. We felt very welcomed and cared for yet had the privacy we needed to relax, unwind and explore. The Inn is right in the downtown core yet tucked away on a quiet street.

Our stay at this magnificent Inn was wonderful on all counts. There were four of us sharing two rooms (one was the 1950's, complete with twin beds, which is just what we wanted). The rooms at this inn are all beautiful - a cross between life in the 1900's but with todays amenities, cleanliness, and sheets with high thread counts!... more
Although this place was found by searching 'Bed and Breakfasts in Yarmouth', it is, in fact, an inn. And a fine inn it is. The room we had was decorated to a 1900s theme but with amenities suiting 2013. Don't be alarmed that there is no A/C; it is not necessary; July nights are cool and a fan cooled the... more

Just returned from a weekend stay at the inn with family and friends. Neil and Mike were superb hosts! The inn is incredibly decorated (actually even more beautiful than the photos online), food was delicious and the service top notch. Hoping to return to Yarmouth someday and would stay there again in a heart beat! Thanks!
Historic Yarmouth has been going through some tough times lately. At one time it had a registered ship tonnage almost as great as Boston and was one of the wealthiest towns in Canada. The wealth translated into a competition between ship owners, captains and merchants to see who could build the finest home. With cost not an issue Yarmouth soon had... more
I am originally from Yarmouth and was back visiting family and had an opportunity to enjoy a very nice meal at the Inn with my wife. The staff is great and the food is incredible. We will be sure to visit again the next time we are in town.
Two colleagues and I ended up staying here after the first B&B we contacted was closed for the week. What luck on our part! We found MacKinnon-Cann instead, had a wonderful stay, and plan to return there whenever we have business in Yarmouth again. There is a tendency to gravitate to large hotels when travelling on business, but this Inn is a far superior option when in Yarmouth. Quite simply, they cannot do enough for you. In my job, I travel all over Nova Scotia, spending lots of time in hotels. I just returned from a fantastic 4 night stay at the MacKinnon-Cann Inn while exploring the great golf courses in the area.
