For a cool place to hang out with work friends, assuming you work downtown, check out Joey's. Great drink list and really consistently good food.
The lettuce portion of the salads is way more than the other ingredients and so they are priced too high. Please bring back the original ahi tuna salad!!!
i love to come here after work for a martini and to wind down. a beautiful interior that's just the right price.
The food is definitely the usual Joey's food, and the atmosphere is on the classy side. Just like you would expect, which is why this is a great place! Good for lunch with business associates, or an after-work beer and bite.
Typical Joey Tomato's. I like that I already know what my meal is going to taste like, sometimes you aren't interested in new experiences.
The food was horrible and the service was apalling. I will NEVER go back and would not recommed it to my worst enemy. A HUGE waste of time and money.
lettuce wraps with chicken) and the service is always great
Not the best food, but the ahi tuna salad was good. Wine list isn't great and the menu's a little schizophernic.
I hate the place bad service and bad food. wonder how they treat there employees
At our recent outing we requested a high chair or booster chair for my grandson. None were available the reason given was "we like to cater to a higher clientele." Obviously children are neither welcome nor t wanted.
We are Joey's fans in Kelowna and Van. We probably go to the Van one once per month. Eau Claire was a completely different experience. from the moment we walked in. - Ginger beef, not at all like the other Joey's . Server took it back and replaced it with a Viva salad but still insisted on charging us for the ginger beef which had one bite out of it. - Viva salad, came out with salad and onions... more
Joey's decor is really nice, esp. balcony furniture outdoor. Servers were nice, although a bit underdressed. Don't go there if you want good food. Ordered an Ahi Tuna salad (approx. 16.00), veg was wilted and tuna tasted like cardboard, these people do not know how to do 'seared' fish.
We just visited the NE location of Joey's and the experience is exactly what we expected it to be. We have been to this location several times, and usually opt to dine there because we can't decide on anywhere else and it's pretty close to our house.
Joey's Tomato's has always been a restaurant that I've enjoyed visiting (specifically the crowfoot location). Their food is absolutely delicious, especially their sushi tacos! They have a very nice ambiance in the restaurants. It is a lot quieter than Earl's while still maintaining a nice lively atmosphere. They also have nice patio seating. Service is always good, the servers tend to know alot... more
We are frequent business visitors to Calgary, and always stay at the Sheraton across the street. We either go to Joey Tomatos or River Cafe every night we're in town. In the past 3 years, we've visited this restaurant at least 50 times, and had consistently good (often exceptional) service. It's not the type of place you'd take a high-profile client, but nice to unwind with colleagues after... more
Great atmosphere. Great place to go for a date of just to meet a friend. There is a reason this place always has a wait! Really good food, but don't forget your wallet! It is a little expensive, but worth it.
I loved your restaurant, my whole family loved your restaurant...yummo!!! We had yum main meals and this was then topped off with the best apple pie in history. Service was fab, even while we were waiting to get in we were served small slices of pizza as an apology for not getting us in straightaway. We would love to say we are going back again soon, however we live in Australia! Whenever... more
My wife and I went for supper at the restaurant. We we're on the terrace where you are protected by glass panel from the wind and a nice top gas heater makes it comfortable when the sun goes down. Our waitress provided us with good advice on the menu even to be careful for allergies. We really enjoyed the quality of our both meals and the wine temperature. Everything was perfect and we will... more
Me and my friend went for lunch at Joeys Tomatos the Barlow location. We were sitting on the patio. Service was slow we recived our drinks the same time our meals came. There were flies on the patio and while we were eating the flies multiplied. It soon become uncomfortable to enjoy our meal. Flies were in our food and all over me my friend. Me and my friend did not even finish our meals... more
I went with a friend for lunch and tried the Ahi tuna salad. I thought the tuna was over-cooked and the salad itself was mediocre. Service was okay, we received prompt meal service. For a Friday afternoon, it was really busy. Reservations might be a good idea.
This past weekend my friends and I were staying in Calgary to attend a conference with three of our children. Just down the street from our hotel was the Joey Tomato's Eau Claire location where we ate two meals. The first night, Friday at approximately 6pm, our group of five was seated almost immediately. I explained to the hostess that our table had a variety of food allergies so she advised... more
My husband, son and I have been at Joey's three times this past 7 days. Our first server was great. The second visit we sat along the cooks. We waited 45 minutes for our meals and watched them up on the counter getting cold. My husband and I ordered a second cocktail and were served the cocktail upon finishing our meals. My starter salad was served after my main course was started. We... more
I have been visiting your Joey Tomatoes (Barlow Tr location) with family, friends, and business acquaintances for many years. Never have I had such inept service, and bad quality of food. I had a out-of-country guest whom I had wanted to treat with your fine dining. Here's the scenerio of the evening as it unfolded:
Sometimes things go from bad to worse. The hostess was complaining to us that our entire group was not there. I told her that the guy was parking his car, she had a hissy fit, like she couldn't handle the situation. jeeez. We did get seated and ordered, but after the food came it seemed like we were isolated on a deserted island. I had to go to the kitchen to get the manager to get water... more
I went to Joey Tomato for the first time last week, I had the chicken solvaki and my usband had a burger, we both really loved our food and will definately be back
Do not eat at their restaurants....the service is terrible and I didn't even get a response back when I made a complaint. They didn't even achknowledge the email I sent....well now we know where the bad service starts from. That's right...from the top down. Is this the type of establishment that you want to eat at where they don't care about their customers?
We all had pasta. Portions were very generous but everyone agreed that it was pretty tasteless. Service was at best mediocre.
April 2007 (Month Visited) "In recent months I have found that Joey's service and food has gone from bad to worse. While the environment is warm and inviting, the experience is anything but that. I used to love Joey's food but now it just sucks. I have done both dine-in and take out and both are terrible. In one recent experience, my boyfriend ordered the newyork steak with mashed potatoes... more
As always, Joey Tomatos proved itself again! My mother and I went there for supper after a vigorous day of shopping and were very pleased with everything. My mother, staying true to her usual menu choice, went with the Lobster Ravioli and a glass of house red wine. I decided to try their grilled steak with mashed potatoes and garlic toast. All I can say is Wow. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal,... more
My sister and her daughter dines at JT this last eveing and not only left hungry, left with a distaste for the chain. Ordered for my neice, who is 5, was a salad with mango, peanuts and noodles. A salad lover, she was excited to have her "adult" dish. However, upon arival, and after a few bites, my 5 year olds niece's mouth was burning. Apparently, the chef had decided to sautee the chicken,... more
If I could give a -10 for service, I would.
While I tend to support independently-owned eateries, I sometimes end up at chain restaurants like Joey Tomatos. In fact, this just happened to me when my wife and I were in Crowfoot Village a couple of weeks ago and needed a place to eat. We couldn't find any smaller restaurants in the area, so we picked Joeys just by chance. I gotta tell ya, our meals were terrific. I was pleasantly... more
I was extremely surprised at the excellent quality, choice, and flavour of the food at Joey Tomatoes. I had the calamari as an appy, and I will say it was the best calamari I have ever had. I chose the Ahi Tuna sandwich for the entree and, wow, it was so flavourful and moist! I can't remember what my friends had, but they were also impressed. The service was very good, and the drinks nice and... more
The food is good with lots of variety. The atmosphere is very noisy. The waitresses dress skimpy. Way too expensive for what you get. Great place for young people, if you're over twenty-five you will feel like a minority and won't fit in.
the girls at the front forgot about me and my husband. and when we finally sat down, our table was not cleaned well.
Like the last reviewer, I tend to stay away from chain restaurants but Joey's is one of my indulgences. I have tried many, many items on the menu and have never been disapointed. My favourites include Crab and Artichoke dip, the pizzas, the panang curry and the apple pie with maple ice cream. I usually go to the Calgary Eau Claire location, but I have also been to all of the other Calgary... more
well.. this WAS a great restaurant but we were a bit disapointed because the review posted on here before this said there were fireplaces everywhere! (we went to the one in Eau Claire). We were also expecting a lot more pasta on the menu (because of the name, it sounded Italian), it is mostly steaks, ribs, brick oven pizza and chicken. The ambiance is a lot like East Side Marios but a bit more... more
In April of 2004, we were returning from a trip to BC and overnighting at the Calgary airport. We went on a little venture seeking out a different type of restaurant than we were used to at home here on PEI. Wow, did we luck out. We loved everything, the look of the restaurant, the food, the atmosphere, the service was excellent. We loved the idea of the fireplace outside, not to mention in the... more
