Good fast service, great food and priced well. The shrimp and cream spring rolls are amazing!!!
For "Chinese the way it was meant to be", fans head to this "reliable" Downtowner where "delicious" dishes "true to the ethnic flavours" "absolutely make up for" what it "doesn't have in decor"; "reasonable prices" and "fast, efficient" servers round out the package.
New ownership has paired down the menu of Hong Kong-style cuisine, but the noodles, made on-site, remain the standout. Pork or shrimp wonton ($8.95) are silken, plump pillows of deliciousness, and are served in soup or in a pool of chili-flecked dark soy. Chow meins and chow funs, while a little sweet, are perfectly cooked over high-powered woks, and the daily specials often focus on local,... more
This tiny cafe doesn't go overboard on the atmosphere, but it's perfectly pleasant and, more importantly, you won't find better noodles anywhere in Victoria. The kitchen is glassed in, so you can watch the chefs spinning out noodles. Lunch specials -- which feature different fresh seafood every day -- are good and cheap, so expect a line of locals at the door. If you miss the specials, noodle... more

Start with chef Joseph Wong’s modern Hong Kong flourish of sweet custard and fruit egg rolls ($1.50). Iconic, fresh-made noodles ($8.95-13.95) and wontons ($6.95) are a solid bet, but daily specials showcase wild salmon ($17.95) or Sichuan-style rack of lamb affirming that J&J’s second-tier menu is serious ($19.95). The kitchen here is glassed-in, so that you can watch the chefs spinning out... more
We had a most delicious lunch here! Fresh spicy Asian food washed down with local beer! Friendly swift service. Can highly recommend.
While the decor is hardly 'faux opulent' and unlike several competitors, in our experience the cuisine is consistently 'a notch above'. I require special attention to dietary preferences/restrictions and the 'maitre D' (Jasmine) alerts the 'open kitchen' ahead of our reservation. The food is prepared and served quickly, always hot and seasoned to taste. This is the only restaurant we patronize... more
Our last night on Victoria BC and wanted some plain, filling, tasty, economical food and we found this place on TripAdvisor. It filled the bill to a tee. Service was friendly, food was dishes were hot, plentiful and tasty.
And we could walk to it from our hotel.
One of my favorite places to dine. Food is authentic and cooked from scratch unlike many Asian restaurants. Service is good and there is a wide selection of dishes to choose from including many vegetarian dishes. There is parking off View street but in the evening parking is free after 6 in Victoria. If you are going on a Thursday to... more
I ate hear with a family celebration last weekend. The menu had been prearranged as we had a large group. Maybe if we had picked our own food I would have been more impressed. It was Ok and the prices were reasonable but I've had better Chinese food. Parking is scant.
I've been eating at Wonton Noodle House for 25 years. It's my favorite restaurant in Victoria. The dishes are consistently good; I've never had a bad meal there. The dishes are tasty, fresh, appetizing, and nourishing. There is a great selection and they will gladly make dishes that are not on the menu. Lots of gluten and dairy free selections,... more
This has been our favourite Chinese restaurant in Victoria for 20 years! We were taken there by friends that first time and were blown away by the quality of the food and the efficient, friendly service. Joseph, the owner was there, pen in hand taking our orders and making sure we were promptly cared for by the staff. We were... more
I was able to visit one of my favourite restaurants in Victoria. I have been coming here for over 15 years and the food is always good and tasty! None of the nasty red sauces so common on the island. The ginger beef is always good. Never had a bad dish and I always want to have everything on the... more
I have been a regular customer for almost 20 years. There are about 10 dishes that are outstanding and the rest is mediocre so pay attention- the best dish is Imperial Prawns, crispy, sweet, spicy, with cashews and broccoli or snow peas. The peppercorn lamb melts in your mouth. Eggplant is to die for. Try the Chinese Greens and the... more
Enjoy fresh wonton soup? Fresh chow mien? Then J & J Wonton Noodle House is for you! All entrees are handmade and prepared right in front of you if you choose to watch. The pleasant service and speedy delivery of meals makes for the perfect lunch stop.
For years this was my favorite restaurant in Victoria. I understand it has new ownership. It is not at all what it used to be. If you must eat there, stay with the specials on the chalk board at the entrance. The chow mein off the regular menu reminds me of the canned Chun King my mother fed me in... more
Normally I find Travelocity reviews a reliable guide to a restaurants quality. In this instance that is certainly not true in our opinion. My wife and I decided to get there early for lunch as we had anticipated a fairly crowded restaurant. However most of the customers who followed us in ordered the Won Ton soup and left afterwards. That... more
Pretty straight forward but well done American-style Chinese fare. We ordered what we thought would be too much food, hoping to snack at the hotel later. Couldn't stop eating... finished it all... surprisingly.
So, I knew what the bill would be but thought we'd have closer to 2 meals worth for that amount... Not that it was at all bad...

Ordered takeaway on New Years, which took an hour.
Was well worth the wait. The Sichuan beans and beef hot pot were incredible.
Crispy ginger beef was also really good.
Not in the main china town are but definitely worth a visit.
We have been eating at J&J Wonton Noodle House at least once weekly for the past 15 years for both lunch and dinner. We occasionally will venture afield to re-affirm our belief that J & J is the best Chinese food in Victoria. The recent new owners Mike (head chef) and Jasmine (hostess) have recently refurbished the interior. They are... more
This place is legendary for those of us that have had the pleasure. Their lunch combos are excellent value, soup is amazing, and honey sesame chicken is practically narcotic. A++
We tried this restaurant for the for first time this past weekend, were very impressed the quality of the food, as each of the flavourful dishes got our taste buds going for more! We started with the wonton soup and the entrees included Spicy Ginger Chicken, BQ Pork Fried Rice and House Chow Mein. Staff were very friendly and our... more
We live almost an hour away but this is the only place we will go for Chinese food. It is worth the drive. The service is cheerful, friendly and fast. The food is so fresh and so good, the best Chinese food I have had anywhere. The Hot and Sour soup is delicious. The Crispy Spicy Ginger Beef is addictive.... more
We were told not to miss this spot. Being from Montreal with the best Chinese food ever we were not hopeful.
But we were very impressed. We tried to go on Monday but it was closed so we walked over again on Tuesday to find a packed noisy and delicious smelling restaurant. Service was great and the food was fresh,...

Absolutely delicious. I cycled past this place on the way to work for 4 years. I hardly even noticed it . . . but I'm pretty sure I smelled it! I told myself that one day I would eat there. Okay, I'm a bit of a procrastinator. That was one of the best Chinese meals I've ever had! We had... more
This restaurant was recommended to us by some resident islanders and it was a great experience! The staff are very warm and friendly, and the food was excellent! I didn't think I would be able to eat Chinese food because of my gluten allergy, but they have a gluten-free menu that is quite extensive. Most of us had soup, and... more
The last time we travelled to Victoria the J&J noodle house was closed. Thankfully it was open this time. What an excellent meal. You need to go pretty far afield to get anything better than the food here. Try the garlic green beans! Absolutely fantastic as was the jumbo prawns and the other dishes we ate! Everything was delicious!
wow went to J&J today for lunch following recommendation from bartender at the Bard and Banker Pub , we had wonton soup, garlic pork and Shangai thick noodles, it was just amazing best lunch ever , service impeccable just all great strongly recommend this , well price it is a must just go
We had the best halibut we have ever eaten. Cooked to perfection in a lovely sause. Nice looking kitchen with a glass window so you can watch chefs at work. The scallops were good too and so were the greenbeans. Nice cheerful waitstaff. Good for get togethers of 10 or so at the round tables. Not exactly romantic, but it... more
This restaurant has half a dozen dishes on the menu that are on my "desert island" food list. The honey sesame chicken is practically narcotic. Service is fast & efficient, and food always great.
We've been visiting this restaurant for many years whenever we are in town. Food has always been consistent if a bit expensive for what is offered. However, this return trip left us disappointed. It was more heavily flavoured and of lower quality. We understand ownership has changed.
Our second visit. So many interesting choices. Absolutely wonderful flavours. I moaned in pleasure with each mouthful. There is simply no comparison to any other Chinese food restaurant. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often.
It's true, the portions are a little smaller and the prices are higher - but it's oh, so worth it.

Not very pretty, but great at what they do. Good value and fast service and the wontons are exactly as they should be.
I could say this place has the best noodles I’ve had. They taste great, they are mostly prepared in front of you, and that is important for me because you can tell if everything is clean. Service is excellent, the staff is really friendly. So if you want something good for a really fair price, this is it.
On New Year's Day, after a Christmas season of traditional food, we were ready for a complete change. We had almost forgotten just how delicious this restaurant's food is. And reasonably priced too. If you go, we strongly recommend that you share some of their more adventurous dishes as we did, rather than limiting yourselves to the old tried-and-trues. We... more
We love JJ's! The house rice and garlic pork are our favorites! Even though it's always busy we typically never have to wait for a table. Take out is fast and easy.
did you know that their "spring rolls" are sweet? They don't tell you and they expect you to pay for it!
they are awful made with god knows what!
My review may look like many of the others but they are right. It is an unassuming small place but don't let that fool you. The food was excellent and the kithchen is open and remarkably clean. The food was fresh, portions were large and the staff was very helpful. Not expensive making it a great value. Closes early so... more
If you are looking for a romantic restaurant with soft lighting and a relaxed atmosphere, then this is probably not the ideal place for you. It's a bit of a walk from the waterfront, but worth it (we also lost all the other tourists).

Best Chines food in Victoria. You have to try the garlic pork and the honey sesame chicken.
We dream of the delicious food we enjoy at this restaurant we go to every time we visit Victoria. Sad that this trip the owners were closed for vacation. Also sad to hear it may be closing. :(
The food here is awesome. The plain formica tables and diner-like ambience might fool you but the food is out of this...

all the specials on the board are excellent, clean and friendly.
Designed with "hard" surfaces, so it's a noisy place to eat. Good food though.
When it gets crisp outside and what you want is a good-size noodle bowl, this is a perfect place. Absolutely no frills, however.
I've been going to J&Js for years. My wife eats there 2-3 times a week. Check the white board that greets you as you walk in for the specials of the day. They are usually amazing. The imperial prawns are one of our family favorites.
I always base my decision to enter a restaurant by how it smells when I walk through the door. J&J passes my test every time. Food is fast, fresh and servings are large. Service is moderate - but the taste of the food makes up for it.
I've had lunch here many times - the wonton noodle soup is so delicious, and the broth is tasty too. I also recommend the chow mein - it's a complete meal with chicken and veggies and noodles. Service is always quick, and there's lots of complimentary tea on offer. Parking is on the street, but Fort Street is interesting to... more
The wonton here is the best I had, and the freshest. The owner seems to be giving a cooking lesson to locals, and are they not blessed! This is a must try, and Abigail's recommended this one for a very good reason.
"""We're fortunate in Victoria to have a restaurant where the owner is true to the ethnic flavours, not some greasy Westernized version. It is difficult to come here as a single person as there is not an option of ordering a prix fixe so it can get pricey."""
"""Consistently fabulous. WIthout a doubt the best Chinese food in Victoria. What J&J's doesn't have in decor they absolutely make up for in fantastic food and great service. Standout dishes include Sesame Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Crispy Ginger Beef and a not"""
I've been eating at Wonton Noodle House for years and have never been let down. My favourite dish is their chicken and vegetable chow mein - delicious! The restaurant is "no frills," that is, it is casual with basically no romantic atmosphere; however, the food is amazing, and that's what counts, right? The service is consistent, and extremely fast. This place strike a chord where it matters most; on the plate and in the wallet. I tried this gem on a whim and I don't regret it. Fresh Chinese the way it was meant to be; fresh hot and reminiscent of some other cuisine, but still Chinese!
While in Victoria on Vacation I was told by a friend to try this restaurant. It is now on my list of favorites. One of the best Chinese restaurants in BC - love the spicy green beans and pretty much whatever else they serve. Doesn't look like much but the noodles are delicious.
Most consistent and accessible chinese food in Victoria. A local favorite.
Amazing! The best eggplant dish anywhere! Ask for their specials, they'll bring you what's not on the menu and it's soo good.
Good noodle at HK style. Great for remembering the wonton noodle in HK.
Inexpensive and tasty Chinese food - who doesn't enjoy sharing dishes with friends and having a lazy susan to do it with!? Families, the young crowd and retirees frequent JJ's for its comfy atmosphere and great fare, such as the hearty won ton soups, the
Excellent soups; ginger onion beef recommended. Noodles made on site.
Went here tonight based on the reviews here but as an asian who eats chinese food often, this was extremely disappointing. The food was just terrible outside of the Wor Won Ton we ordered. A great place for lunch. The restaurant is immaculately clean and serves an array of very tasty and custom-prepared Chinese dishes. We have never been disappointed with the food. Only problem with the restaurant is that it can be noisy and busy over the... more
This is a most unassuming Chinese food restaurant. Don't judge it by the ambience (our young waitress was very helpful with the menu), judge it for the great food. Arrive before 6 pm if you want to avoid a line-up. Have eaten there several times and am yet to be dissapointed by the selections.

From the ratings, we expected a lot and we were very disappointed. I can't even compare it to an average Chinese restaurant in Seattle.
