Contemporary and innovative Japanese cuisine and sushi.
Despite some opening kinks, Chef Ikoma Kenjiro's effortless fusion of izakaya faves, French-inspired sauces and decidedly non-Japanese flavors - like icewine-marinated albacore tuna - merits a visit. Sashimi dishes are poetically plated, as are standouts Summer roll and deep-fried Alaska Crab Leg Roll. Booze menu leans heavily on artisan sake and Japanese vodka, with helpful pairing advice.... more

Nestled among the glass-and-steel towers of Coal Harbour, Irashai Grill is the sleek counterpart to its casual Kerrisdale cousin (see below). G.M. Ray Mok and executive head chef Ikoma Kenjiro strive for a seamless blend of Continental technique and traditional Japanese recipes. Imaginative sauces accentuate the fresh sweetness of raw-bar selections: shochu amaebi is Pacific prawn marinated in... more
What an underrated and hidden gem in Kerrisdale! Probably b/c it's more west along towards UBC, where the Boulevard/Arbutus seems to get all the action.
Went here b/c read recently somewhere that the owner of Provence marinaside said their Dragon roll was the best in the city--which kinda means something. And boy was he right!
Just made perfectly, looked so good that i forgot to take a pic....

They have yummy rolls and service is great. No hassling while you are sharing a meal and having a heated discussion. Try the green tea creme brule for dessert.
Spicy salmon roll could be spicier. Scalop roll was very good.
Tempura is well presented. Very tasty and crispy. Not over fried.
Chicken Yaki soba was well presented, it came out sizzling. Chicken was very nice and tender. The udon was average.
Decor was interesting, there is a tanuki near the entrance. Tonight, I tried the sashimi and nigri sushi and the presentation was good. The quality is above average and the taste is good. The service was slow at times, but overall I got my empty plates picked up and tea refilled. The price of the food is on the higher end, and is probably the biggest factor why I would not go more often.... more
Irashai Grill is located in Coal Harbour close to the waterfront. It is a contemporary Japanese restaurant that offers classic dishes with a modern twist. The first thing I noticed about... more
After an evening of donating money to the local economy er playing blackjack we had the jones for Sushi. My Yelp phone App came in very handy as we found the Irashai Grill to be close to our hotel and most importantly had high reviews. We got there late and were the only patrons besides a group that the owner said was family.
What a great find! The sushi was fresh, reasonable priced, and they...

Fresh, visually appealing and unique dishes. I've been meaning to make it to this location, and luckily I did because I have a feeling it won't be around much longer. It's an unfortunate out of the way location, but maybe they do well for lunch & take-out?
The space is quite nice, red booths and flat screen tv's. Expensive drink menu though, so I'm not sure why they have the tv's there.
As...

I would honestly go to this place more but I keep forgetting about it. The food here was excellent and I found the seafood quality to be surpringsly high.
The layout itself is a little confusing I think having the large TV's make it feel a bit muddled like a sports bar/Izakaya. I would ditch the TV's if I were them. They also had a nice selection of Sake and Shochu which I would like to work...

Absolutely the worst place I've been to on years! Terrible sushi and horrible service!!
...it was aesthetically pleasing, but the food didn’t live up to it. To be honest, it was alright, nothing special. The items on the menu were a bit pricey
Overall, I’d say that the Irashai Grill was alright, but nothing special. I’m not sure if it was the dishes that I tried and just that I’m not ‘in the know
What a pleasant surprise to find a Coal Harbour restaurant offering fresh and delicious sushi.
I've walked past the restaurant twice a day for the past year and never ventured in. My bad. I never thought it looked busy or had any clientele so I shrugged it off as overpriced.
Actually, it's not that expensive. Sushi rolls range from $6 and up. I thought they might be on the small side, but...

A great sushi restaurant in a very quiet foot traffic area in Triangle West bordering Coal Harbour. Although the restaurant may look threatening to your wallet, it isn't. Sushi rolls range from $6 to $15 and the portions are big.
Although the menu is on the selective side, it doesn't have items like California Rolls and BC Rolls taking up the spaces :) An extensive daily special menu...

I rarely dislike a restaurant but the food at this restaurant was awful. My mistake was probably to choose what had been suggested by the waiter. That was fish sticks and a noodle bowl. Beurk. The sushi roll I had (covered with yellow cheese) was also barely eatable. It was a bad first night diner in Vancouver. We were lucky our next stops were great. It might be a nice place for a drink, but... more
Sometimes I get free food. I put in soo much time into this blog that I don't mind taking a free meal when offered. Irashai a restaurant located in Coal Harbour and they invited me along... more
French trained Japanese chef, fusion and Westcoast style. Familiar Vancouver delights, good quality ingredients, quiet atmosphere.
30 min wait, in an empty restaurant, for mediocre food. Pass on this one.
I went the Open House at Irashai Grill last Thursday and had a great night! I RSVP'd to the event and had no problems getting in. The people at the door were very friendly and offered lots information about the restaurant and what they were trying to achieve with the Open House. I loved the inside of the restaurant very airy, spacious and trendy while still keeping with a Japanese theme. Then... more
The food is so fresh and the rolls are awesome! Try the Summer Roll is it delish! Definitely worth a vist. I go to this place twice a week because it's so good. It's newly renovated too so the space is really nice. They also offer awesome lunch specials for great value. Really worth the visit and you can go during playoffs b/c they've got flat screens and play all the games.
NOT another Cactus Club or Earls! Super friendly people, and all around cool spot. The food is made with care by people that will actually come to your table to be sure you're enjoying your meal. This has become a favorite spot of ours, delicious rolls, innovative menu, and very comfortable space. I really can't imagine anyone not wanting to return after trying once... we have become regulars.... more
