Your affordable choice in Downtown Toronto's Bloor-Yorkville Village
Enjoyed my first stay at this hotel, staff was very helpful, location was good, room was fine, rate was great, wake up calls came right on time,I will be back next time in T.O. Thanks
It was nice to be so close to downtown and near Bloor st, but location just did not overcome the fact that this hotel was so dirty. We got into our room and there was a dorito chip on the bed. There were multiple little chips around the room, a clear indication that they did not even bother to vacuum from the previous visitors. I will not be going back.
I wan't expecting much as I paid around $100 for a room in downtown Toronto, but I definitely wasn't expecting mould in the bathtub. :(
It's a convenient location, but a bad hotel. The furnishings and decor are really old-looking; furniture banged-up, etc. The wi-fi works well.
quiet, secure and great location for the price...close to everything
Overall, not worth saving the $50 to stay here verses a nicer hotel. I waited to check in for a half hour because the system was down. I had to ask the other people in line what the problem was because the one guy at the desk didnt inform us what was going on, or apologize, or offer anything to supplement the inconvenience. When I finally did get to a room, there were holes in the walls, rust... more
This building was built before the era of the internet. rooms need at least two more electrical outlets in the rooms. Very close to the business district.
My room smelled musty like an old sweaty body. The bed covers were old, but clean and the bathroom was clean and looked fairly updated. The staff were pleasant and helpful, especially when I complained of the smell. Great location, close to shops, restaurants, the subway and a grocery store a few doors down.
Price was only reflective of location. The hotel looks like it hasn't been updated since the 80s, breakfast is very small and parking is bonkers (especially when you can't find a spot). Generally just did not enjoy our time there.
Visit to Gardiner and AGO was rewarding and accessible
This hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to subway stations, U of T, shops of Yorkville, etc. But it leaves a lot to be desired. I had two different rooms during my stay. The first one faced the busy street but I could barely see what was happening outside because the windows were filthy, as if they hadn't been washed in a decade. The room also reeked of cigarette smoke, so... more
My very first experience with the hotel was with a petulant, fairly rude front desk staff member who actually threatened to dismiss my already booked reservation. He was completely alone and made my very first feeling of wanting to just walk out, even after 6 hour drive. The room: a couch that should have been condemned a coffee maker that did not work a bedspread that had clumped and balled up... more
Parked at hotel and took subway downtown for dinner at a restaurant and attended live theatre. Returned via subway with no parking hassles.
My granddaughter had invited me to go and see a bit of Toronto, the art museum, some shopping, high tea etc. We had a wonderful time, too bad the hotel was not what we expected, according to the website pictures.
Like others have said, it could use some updating but rooms are clean and location is great.
Great location right in the centre of Toronto. Staff were really friendly and very helpful. Rooms were nice and clean - maybe a little outdated, but still lovely and comfortable. Breakfast was nothing special, but adequate. As well as coffee making facilities in the rooms you could also get free tea, coffee and pastries etc at any time in reception, which I thought was great!
This Howard Johnson's hotel is almost tucked away on Avenue Rd. - you would barely notice it, given all the construction and conspicuous wealth surrounding it. We think it's the best deal in Toronto and have stayed there several times. The location is great (Yorkville) and it has the basic amenities. The owners have applied for rezoning so it will likely be torn down when their approval comes... more
Basic hotel room overlooking parking lot, drapes appeared to be about 40 years old, bedspreads lumpy, coffee maker supplied but had to put on floor in order to plug in, only basic cable. What a disappointing experience.
Good but old one Kind staffs Close to downtown
I think even the people who work there were ashamed of the place. I think they were overworked and underpaid. The walls everywhere were dirty with handprints. The shower walls of the bathtub were moldy. It had looked like they had slapped paint on things. It was like something out of a movie.
It was not clean! Very old TV. Old blankets and beds. Terrible air conditioning. Bad breakfast. Not comfortable at all. Not recommended!
This hotel has seen better days. Probably due for a make-over. Shabby around the edges, frayed carpets, etc. Could be cleaner too. OK and recommended only if you are just spending a night and not fussy. I suppose the price reflects the location, not the quality.
Very good location. Friendly staff. Very confortable and spacious room.
I know toronto has high parking costs but many hotels include it in the fee. $25 per day is steep, especially as it is somewhat inconvenient. You must drive in back of hotel, there is no front drop off/pick up area. The rooms are unexciting and the bed was uncomfortable. The duvet cover was extremely lumpy (think 2-3 inches in each pocket) and nothing elsewhere providing no warmth at all.... more
This hotel only makes sense if you are on a budget and need to stay downtown. Had the feel of a hostel. Room was dated and dirty although a good size.
I had an overnight stay in Toronto that was entirely taken up with business. This hotel fit the bill as a great place to sleep. The rate was very reasonable in such a trendy neighbourhood. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were quite helpful. I was lucky to get one of a limited number of parking spots behind the hotel but they can direct you to nearby parking.
Kind greetings at reception Very reasonable rate Clean sheets and towels Mould around tub Water marks on walls and ceiling Lumpy "duvet" Frayed carpet Owners clearly spending minimum until teardown Property due to become site for new condo bldg
Hotel staff very helpfull, not far from subway which was the best way to get around.
the building is old .the wallpaper and rug is old but the room210 was huge but the tv is old.not much is reinvested into this hotel.
Chose it for the location, but wouldnt return. Lots to see in the area. Parking extra and just a few spaces.
I have stayed here several times over the years but there has been no renovation done as far as I can see. The impression is old and worn. It's a prime location so perhaps it's due for demolition. That is my impression, just hanging on.Too bad.
Staff friendly and courteous during checkin/checkout; fast/easy access to DVP to get in/out of T.O.
The hotel is a little far from downtown, but pleasant check in and staff were accommodating had room for baggage so we didn't have to carry it around all day. decent for the price would stay here again. room is slightly dated
I will start by saying You can't beat the location or the price.....and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is clean but very dated and starting to look run down. The bed was comfortable and appeared clean, but the tub had black mildew around the grout. The ceiling had several stains from water leaks. Internet cut in and out. Again, for the price and location you can't beat... more
breakfast is cafeteria style seating. Selection of yogourts was limited.
Stayed one night during a busy TIFF weekend. Glad to be able to get a hotel conveniently located in the downtown core at a reasonable price. Hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. We had asked to check in a bit early and they kindly accommodated us.
Was able to take cabs everywhere we wished to go due to the location of this Howard Johnson's. We saw Blue Jays and attended a wedding. No cab ride was over $14.00. The subway is close by & shopping was fantastic with the shops close by!
The hotel requires major overhaul. The carpet is filthy, there is shortage of towels, the breakfast is technically there but there is barely any food. The staff is nice but all they do is apologize for shortages of everything at the hotel and it's condition. The only saving grace is the location of the hotel.
We booked the HoJo Hotel because of the price. It's affordable in a central location within walking distance of the ROM, banks, shopping centers and restaurants. The actual hotel itself was a disappointment. The outside is outdated and in poor taste, the rooms themselves following suit. It's clean in terms of no bed bugs, or insects running around but there were stains on the walls, hair, dirt... more
The hotel staff was super friendly. And the room was a basic but clean and somewhat modern which was nice. It's in a beautiful neighbourhood close to the subway. Parking was $25 to park for the night.
Hallways were dark, carpet was so outdated and dirty. Continental breakfast was in a dull room - no windows - felt like a office cafeteria. Washroom door knob was broken Closet was missing door Comforter was so old and worn out.
Front desk service was pleasant, location is convenient to subway, Yorkville and The ROM. Price was exceptional compared with other area hotels, the room was dated but comfortable. A room facelift with new carpet would be nice but the bed was comfortable. Whole Foods is next door - couldn't ask for better or cheaper breakfast and lunch faire.
The staff were great and very helpful. I, personally, would have liked to have the option of a pay-per-view movie but otherwise it was good. I only choose it because of it's location. I guess I still expect more for the money I pay even when I realize that the cost was about average. The hotel looked dated and there were a few things that made it seem worse than it was. For example - the cord... more
The bed was far too hard for me. Continental breakfast was disappointing.
they do not have enough parking space to accommodate their clients.... we had to park next door in a parking garage and after less than 48 hours we had to pay $67 to get our car back....way too much.... more
We stayed two nights, this is the second time we stayed here, it is in good location, it has parking on its premise which is great. The linens are little worn and old otherwise it is OK and the breakfast is good too AB and SB from OTTAWA
Needed a place close to relatives. Not fancy but clean and staff was really nice.
Stayed there due to proximity of U of Toronto, for a morning convocation, just down the street. Also for a 2 day technical seminar at Ryerson. Rooms were comfortable, breakfasts were good, parking had in & out privileges, Whole Foods store next door, good location. Living in the GTA, it would be too hard to get downtown in time for a 9:30 convocation from home, especially in the morning rain.
It was a comfortable stay, nothing to complain about. At the price anyway, for half of the price of other hotels in it's area. It was close to where I needed to be, walking distance from the medical clinic. I am happy with the experience.
Poor breakfast and terrible parking that you have to pay extra 25 bucks! The room and bed are OK.
Carpets a little old and grotty but nice clean bathrooms and beds. Reasonable breakfast. Expensive parking.
This hotel is located very close to Yorkville so the location is perfect. Yorkville location with cheap rates. The place isn't fancy but it's clean and the staff is helpful. Perfect for our need since we basically are out the the room all day and return to sleep and shower.
The hotel is nice but a bit expensive, how ever its in a great location and the service is great.
The hotel itself is a little dated, especially the amenities of the rooms. However the price was right and the location is great for the price. It's a block away from the ROM and an easy 5-10 minute drive from the entertainment district.
The customer service was poor, the hotel itself (hallways, foyer, breakfast room, hotel room) were extremely unappealing and unclean, the continental breakfast was lacking. The only good thing about this hotel was that the bed was pretty comfortable.
I forgot a brand new sweater in the hotel room and later that afternoon called to see if they could hold it at the desk for me so I could pick it...

Very good location. Very helpful staff. Basic amenities, but a good place to stay.
I've stayed here twice and I've never had a problem. The room is basic but clean. For Toronto, though, the price doesn't get any better. The location is perfect and much better than staying east of Yonge Street. I know the city very well and this location has the advantage of being close to the student vibe of the Annex where there are many good bars and restaurants. That's much preferable to... more
The location is great and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Dirty rooms, vagrants in the lobby, unfriendly desk staff..... I visit Toronto frequently, and this was my worst hotel experience in all the years I've been traveling there.
Clock radio and misc surfaces dirty. View terrible in some rooms, beds comfortable, water pressure low but lots of hot water. Very close to transit and hospitals.
This is the most horrible customer service I have received just booking this hotel. You have to call the mail reservation line, which is fine, but after telling the first rep exactly the location that I am looking for he proceeds to tell me all the locations they have available in each neighborhood and asks me which one I want and he can not go by street address only neighborhoods. Well if I... more
Very convenient. Close to things we wanted to do. Bare-bones amenities but very reasonably priced for that neighborhood. Free wi-fi and coffee 24/7 were a plus.
I traveled to Toronto due to hospitalization of family member.[...] was aware of my travel purpose and they said that the Howard Johnson was the closest to the hospital for the price I paid. [...] would not tell me how much I was paying per night. I would have stayed at the Chelse Hotel because it was much cheaper due to family hospitalzation (they give a discount for that) and I could have... more
The room was old and outdated. It look like the 80's. Old tv and no ventilation fan in the bathroom. Not trying to be gross, but there was a white liquid substance dried on the head board. Sorry but it needed to be said. The hotel is in a decent location and it's in the city where you can walk everywhere.
The hotel location is very good. The hotel itself is a bit grim. There are marks on the walls. However, the staff are very nice and helpful.
just stayed for a night. Location is excellent, and the neighborhood quite lively. Price is almost unbeatable, but this comes together with some cons : old-fashioned equipment in the room (and very noisy heater), sheets with stains.
The hotel was clean, peaceful and quiet. A very pleasant experience.
Awsome surrounding, 5 minutes walk to nearest metro station. Maybe a bit old but confortable bedroom. Nice staff would provide good advice for dining around.
I went to Toronto only for tourism, so I knew I would not be spending much time in the hotel. I would return to the hotel only during the nights with my boyfriend, it was perfect for our budget. The bed was made and relatively comftorable, and we had a shower and access to clean towels whenever we needed and that's all I could ask for in a hotel. Also, the parking at this hotel was cheap and... more
I had the great misfortune of staying here for a business trip last Monday. I go once a month to TO for a meeting and look on line for best value stays. I am not there except to work, attend the meeting, sleep & return home the next day. My schedule is very busy & sleep dear to me.
I called to request an early check-in so I could prepare for the meeting. No problem- then I arrived- the desk...

Went to medical appointments and did some shopping, while I was there. The room had comfortable beds, but had too few electrical outlets to plug in things like curling irons. The walls and carpet were stained. The hotel is in a perfect location for shopping and sight seeing. The trip worked out well because it was easy to get to places by taxi. I would stay at this hotel again mostly because of... more
Was in town for fanexpo and chose to book here when the con rooms filled up. Staff consisted of various guys more interested in talking on their cells than actually addressing you. Rooms were clean, but have seen better days. Pillows were rock hard.Internet was fast, location is about 3 blocks from the subway. Won't stay here again. Much better places to crash for not much more money.
“ I've stayed in Ho Jo back in 1999 and nothing has change. OK for one day stay. Hallways are still dark and the pillows and the bed sheets are cheap. T.V. looked like it was from 1990 and when I change the channel, there was a load click. This hotel definitely needs to be renovated. ”
Good desk service courteously allowing for early check-in and slightly late check-out. Breakfast of croissants and muffins, coffee and tea basic but sufficient for price. Reasoonably comfortable room providing suitable home base from which to explore city, but far from luxurious hotel experience.
The staff were hard to understand and not very helpful. They argued with me over something that they were clearly wrong about. The room was very average, the blind was broken, hanging down at a 45 degree angle, I rang front desk upon arrival to room and no one ever came to fix.
Hotel advertised luxury and pool. No luxury,no pool. Great location - in a very upscale area - inexpensive hotel, but don't expect anything but VERY basic beds (quite thin, but new, mattress; pillows from my childhood (and I'm 57), and a ridiculous bathroom.
Breakfast was basic, continental, but rroms are large and location is great
A fine no-frills hotel in a spectacular location near shops, galleries, museum, restaurants. Beautiful bargain spot in the midst of luxury.
“Clean and a rather unassuming hotel for such a posh location. The morning clerk needs some etiquette training in dealing with customers.”
Le petit dejeuner est tres peu copieux
We had such a hard time finding this location. Staff was friendly but didn't speak good English. When we entered the room, the floor was still dirty. We turned on the light fixtures, only 1 out of 3 was working. We reserved the room for 3 people but there were only 2 towels in the bathroom. There were no coffee machine in the room. Parking is $15 Canadian. You must deposit $50 for incidental... more
“Clean, conveniently located, functional spacious room. Cordial staff. Breakfast included in room rate.”
This hotel has a great location, right around the corner from the ROM, lots of upscale shopping (Versace, Calvin Klein), Whole Foods right next door, safe, busy neighborhood (even at 1am on a Monday!) “Good access to shopping, transit. rooms very clean . Excellent fresh food market and cafe next door.”
For the price the hotel was very clean. The bathrooms appeared to be remodeled. The brick wall didn't look great, but it kept the sound down. I was by the elevator and ice machine and I slept soundly.
Two nights, 2 rooms, family of 4. Cheerful, helpfull staff. Quiet rooms. Terrific location; near the ROM, shopping, University, restaurants. And PARKING, ($15 per day)which is a great price in Toronto. Altogether, a pleasant experience.
We only slept in the hotel and had breakfasts. The good thing is that they provide simple breakfast. But no drinking water, which is not convenient for families with kids.
“Based on location they should look into renovating slightly or even give a fresh paint job, upgrade TV stations, upgrade electrical in bathrooms and do not have bed posts that are so high you can't even watch TV!”
“The hotel was great when we first arrived, staff was friendly and helpful. The parking is in relatively near the hotel, but very expensive. There were no ice dispensers working which was annoying. We went out to a club and when we came back to the hotel the kitchen staff was making croissants and offered us some, then security called and said we stole croissants and was going to evict us. “Great hotel for someone on a budget who wants to stay right Downtown for a few nights. Wouldn't recommend for a long trip, just one or two nights. Cheapest hotel by far compared to others on the same street, but would have like to see a little more quality in the linens, furnishings, TV, etc. Overall, good hotel with friendly staff.”
The Howard Johnson Hotel was nice but not as nice as it should be for the price. In addition, we had to pay an extra $15 just to park in their parking lot.
“I would stay here again. The internet was free wireless and easy to access. It was in a great location for my purposes. Staff was friendly and a simple but good continental breakfast included.”
“Smaller low cost hotel in expensive part of town, about 5 miles from downtown Toronto. Plenty of cabs and great subway train station 3 short blocks away. The mall is small and has mostly for upscale... more
the hotel is a very good value for the money. you can expect a clean comfortable basic room, spacious, a small charming lobby, and a location in one of toronto's nicest neighborhoods. i will stay again, and recommend it to anyone.
“Well situated in quiet neighborhood Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are small, but bedroom is adequate with fittings reflecting the price of the room.”
“The hotel was easy to find and a great location for my stay. Staff was helpful and friendly.”
“The room was surprisingly nice, the bed comfortable with good sheets and pillows. The complimentary coffee and muffins in the morning was a bonus. I will definitely stay here again the next time I¿m in Toronto.”
“Excellent location. There was adequate parking, at a reasonable additional charge and I felt very safe. However, attention to detail in the area of cleanliness was lacking. The staff was efficient but not overly friendly or helpful. The decor was a bit outdated but for the price, that was to be expected.
