Discovered we had stayed here often when it operated under the ECONOLODGE label. Not much has changed except the ownership. We had no real disappointments because we knew the place and it has always met our needs--welcomes our dogs, reasonably clean, does not clean out our wallets, staff are pleasant and helpful. Located in a shopping area where here is a wide choice of eating places and other... more
This was not a pleasant stay...though we'd be okay with a brand name. Boy were we wrong. The gentleman checking us in couldn't find our reservations....only wanted to give us 1 key card. The envelope the key card came in had obviously (and dirtily) been used before. The room was dark and dingy. The towels were not white but grey.... more
Pretty standard budget hotel, though somewhat in need of a makeover, especially the bathrooms. Our biggest issue was the thin walls, allowing us to hear our neighbours' TV and other activities long after we hit the bed. We also caught the occasional waft of cigarette smoke. Its location is OK given nearby restaurants and stores, but going downtown or to... more
Unappealing look all around to the hotel and room
Smelled like smoke
Small room
Bathroom was kind of gross looking
Gave us the wrong internet code
Breakfast wasn't very well done
Internet was good once we got the right code
Main floor; can park out front
Staff was very friendly...but interesting...
Good location to walk to places
We stopped at this Howard Johnson simply because we were tired and it was close to the highway. The price, although it seemed decent, was probably well more than we should have paid for what we got. The hotel clearly had not been updated in 30 years. The bed was too soft, and the decor really needed an update. We... more
we showed up at 11:30 pm after a very long day of traveling and found that one of our two rooms did not come with two beds for our 4 teenage children. Two slept in the bed while one in a roll away cot and the other on the floor. Manager had said not his fault and that to get in touch with Expedia whom we had booked with. Overall very disappointing experience.
For a night or two its fine. No a 5 star but u have everything that you need. Breakfast could be better by adding cereal in it as everything else is all carbs only.
Night clerk was very helpful in trying to get the AC working but in the end moved us to another room.2nd room was better than the first (maybe expedia gets the 2nd rate rooms)
Just stayed the one night while attending the Scottish Highland Games nearby. Was fine in every way for what you would expect a 3 star hotel to be. only comment was that there is not much room for patrons at the breakfast, only 5 tables and one hostess trying to refill everything. Could use more than one toaster as well as it is the only hot thing there.
Clean enough and comfortable enough but nothing fancy
The room needed a paint job, toilet needed fixing. Although we were told that the whole place was being renovated & our room had been one of the first, it still had the feeling of a dumpy room. The room was too dark to see if the carpet was clean or in good condition. The air conditioner was not working & was not looked at in the 3 days we stayed. We mentioned it to the staff as soon as we... more
It was nice and clean, and nice reception and good breakfast, too. We recommend to stay for your vacation.
Room was dark, dirty and dingy. Towels were an unfortunate shade of grey - though I suspect they were supposed to be white. The 'breakfast' was a joke - unless you're a teenage boy who doesn't mind acne.
We needed a place to stay on a long road trip and this place fit the bill solely based on location and lack of other options in Cornwall. We're pretty sure that's the only way this place has managed to stay open. The pictures online are very deceiving. They make it look like a decent place, but in real life, it's really worn out. The room was clean and had a mini fridge, but the good points end... more
The room was comfortable. The staff was hard to find at times. The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired.
Bad experience overall. Horrible breakfast.
Friendly staff, respond to customer's need on time
I booked this, knowing I'd want a place to rest on my trip. It was a mistake, which almost made me leave upon arrival. The hallways have a damp smoky smell to them, which continued into the room. Once in the room, I told my kids to keep their shoes on, the carpets if vacuumed had been done very quickly, as there were mud chunks around the table and dirt everywhere. The beds were comfortable,... more
The room was clean , but the carpet was wet and the air conditioning did not work, asked for a fan but it was so hot did not get a good sleep. There was no one at the front desk when I left in the morning.
We were not impressed by the room and its condition and would avoid making further bookings at this location,.
I stayed at this hotel last year and since, many improvements have been made. I came back this year because every other hotel was fully booked. But the changes were nice surprises. A couple of examples: no more smoke smell (which was the most important for me). The flat screen TV are new, the walls too are new and shower... more
This is the worst place that I have ever stayed at. If we hadn't prepaid for this hotel, we would have left. The place was dirty. Carpets dirty and worn, as well as towels and bedding. The breakfast bar had 2 loaves of "Good Value" bread and a worn out old toaster. The coffee carafe was empty. There was some... more
No wifi in the room, the breakfast was bagels and toast. Good for a stopover not for an extended stay
The facility is dated. The bed and bathroom were clean. Air conditioner very noisy, like an idling motor all night. Breakfast was poor. I would not rate it beyond one star if that. It was cheap.
Arrived late at night no reservation, ok was discount a small amount but no hot water for shower place smells like bleach no help from staff with hot water issue. No coffee pot place is old and musty bleach used to try and hide smell but makes it worse never stay here again
I needed a cheap last minute place to stay. The place needs updates, but it was clean. It is close to the highway and close to Macdonalds where I went after I missed the 9:00 am deadline for brekkie.
Room okay. Disappointed with the breakfast. Did not live up to expectations with a name like Howard Johnson.
I travel to Montreal for work quite often from Toronto. On the way back to Toronto, Cornwall makes for a decent stop for the night. I have stayed here on 3 occasions. The staff on the desk has always been very pleasant. For a budget hotel & the price I pay for the rooms, they have been pretty clean. However,... more
Hotel was conveniently located. Close to restaurants & shopping. My room was clean & comfortable. Staff was friendly & helpful. Parking was great, right outside the door. I will be booking there again in August.
We were in town visiting, my husband is from cornwall, the location was good for us close to restaurants etc.
recently spent a night at this motel......lady on desk was extremely pleasant and very accommodating.....room was okay.....beds were comfortable......and our dog was welcome......certainly worthy of the price charged
I travel from London, Ontario to Saint John, New Brunswick a few times per year. Cornwall is an ideal stopping place, so I stop here every time. I have a dog, so I am forced to stay in this repulsive hotel. I have never had a successful stay with no issues. Last time I was here, the shower didn't work... more
We stayed one night for EOSIC event and almost all the hotels were boooked up. We did not book before the event and there were only 3 rooms left in this hotel. We did not expect much but the stay in this small hotel is pleasant, it was quiet and clean. The sound proof between room is not good though.
Front desk staff was really nice. Rooms were old and worn. Walls paper thin. Sounded like neighbours were in the same room. Wouldn't stay again. Was cheap though.
My room was clean and BIG! Although the hallway REAKED of smoke, my room near the lobby did not smell at all. I would recommend that if you want a non-smoking room, ask for one near the lobby. No complaints about the room. The free breakfast was kind of weak....I tried to cut a bagel...but it was too hard for the plastic knife to break thru. Would I stay there again for $79...yup. But if you... more
I needed a room outside of Montreal and chose this property based on other reviews and price as well as location. The gentleman working the front desk was friendly enough as he checked us in. The lobby seemed straight out of the early 70s though, in appearance and smell. I used the restroom in the (closed) lounge and it smelled... more
Nothing special. Not enough toilet paper or kleenex in the room. Room said it had queen sized beds, but they were the size of double beds. Breakfast was served only from 7-9 and no one mentioned this to us so we missed it. Lady at front desk on check in was not inviting at all. Lady at front desk who gave us more toilet paper and kleenex was very nice.
Our family was traveling back to Toronto, and due to bad weather we had to stop. Prices of other hotels and motels were outrageous that night, trying to cash in on bad weather. We checked in this hotel, and the price was very acceptable. Hotel is very comfortable with large rooms, and they have done a lot of work with... more
Beds not made, dirt on beds that was already slept in, bugs in bed, non smoking sinked of stale cigarette smoke, crumbs on carpet, towels in bathroom used, bathtub cold tap was broken and toilet was dirty. Last time that I will stay at Howard Johnson!!!!
Just stayed at the Ho-Jo this past weekend, booked 4 rooms for myself and family members. Was confident with the chain's name, previous to arrival, WYNDHAM is typically known for being professional, classy, and well kept.
This "hotel" is currently under renovations from a motel to "hotel". Not once while booking was this mentioned. This place is a complete dump...

We were very disappointed with the general condition of the hotel, the room smelled damp and the hall way looked like a scene from 'Bates Hotel'. This hotel does not represent what I have come to expect from a Howard Johnson hotel. The continental breakfast was appalling as my healthy breakfast choices do not include a large assortment sugar donuts and muffins; little else was offered.
My son and I stayed here 1 night for a hockey tourney. I booked the room through www.redtag.ca and when I arrived the girl at the front desk told me that they had no record of me paying through redtag and that I would need to pay or forfeit the room. I explained to her that I have a confirmation... more
During July 2013, on our way to Montreal we decided to stay in Cornwall for a night being a long drive to Quebec City. Indeed, we had a memorable stay. The room was large with two cozy queen size beds and a fridge, that in fact added to overall comfort as we had some eatables. The room was clean and... more
VERY shabby and dated. No investment in updates to this place in decades. Has appearance that they are running this property into the ground before closing it permanently. Lighting so poor in hallways, they have added Ikea floor lamps. No Wifi !
I would not recommend this hotel at all! The room was dirty, the sheets/pillows were stained and the whole place looked run down. I did not stay at the hotel, I booked a room at another hotel!!!
I read the reviews after I booked so I was pleasantly surprised with a nice clean room. The decor meaning the drapes and curtains have been updated but yes this is a late 70s hotel. The room smelt fine but the rest of the hotel smells like cigarettes which a smoker would not pick up. It looks to me that... more
We were shocked to see the condition of this Howard Johnson motel - it needs an update and renovation to step out of the 60's. We didn't take off our shoes in the room (carpets were old and dirt stained) and the tub faucet in our room was spraying out the back when you turned on the shower. Shame on... more
In my experiences with hotels they should be at par or better, with the inflated prices, than your home. This felt like I stayed in an abandoned building. There were stains on our towels and blankets, the sheets were wrinkly, they felt like cheese cloth against your skin, there were hairs on the floors and gunk on our toilet seat,... more
Wifi was slow Decor is dated But clean room , comfy bed well located at reasonable price
I have asthma and when I first walked into the lobby of this hotel I couldn't breathe as the cigarette smoke smell was so bad. We booked a room with 2 beds for 3 adults, us and our adult son, but were given a room with 1 double bed. After making a fuss, the girl finally called her manager and gave us a room with 2 beds. It was around the alley and beside the dumpster. Entire place is very old... more
Beds were good. Plumbing was very poor. Rooms were stale smelling and in need of renovation. Price too high for what they offer.
It was terrible and I will not be back at the Cornwall location!
Over-priced, run-down, hole-in-the-wall with paper-thin walls and danky/musty smell. Did I mention "over-priced"??? Shower was unusable (either scalding hot or freezing cold with no in-between). Breakfast consisted of Hostess-style donutes, and coffee (brewed 1 pot at a time by front desk clerk). HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pulled in and the lone staff member was sitting out front with locals at a picnic table smoking. Check in was fairly quick. The room and bedding appeared clean, but there was a strong moldy smell which did not go away. Upon entering the interior hallways I was thrown back to a bad apartment building from the 70's. All bad... more
The room was clean and comfortable but the entire complex is in need of an update. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
We booked this trip trying to save a bit of money, but next time we'll spend the extra dollars to ensure a clean hotel/room. For a smoke-free floor, the odour was quite bad and our bathroom smelled heavily of smoke. The queen beds advertised were indeed double. The carpet looked like it hadn't been cleaned as there was several pieces of debris/dirt throughout. Also, an upholstered chair had... more
Hotel was used as a stay over from Ontario to New Brunswick. Wouldn't stay again. Had stayed before but under the name Econo Lodge. Stayed because it was a Howard Johnson not realizing it was the same hotel. Wouldn't have stayed
I was in Cornwall for a 3 day convention. I was so disappointed. Never again. The state of the room was pityful. The carpet were dirty, the vents of the air conditioner were full of mold. The free breakfast....mold muffins, even on the bread. Air-conditioning wasn't working at all in certains rooms. We had 2 shortages of electricity due apparently... more
The hotel is looking tired, but otherwise OK. Besides you cannot beat the price
We booked this hotel online needing a stop over in Cornwall, it was reasonably priced and there were not many options. We relied on the Howard Johnson brand for minimum standard but were disappointed with the facility. Rooms are small, outdated and not very clean. It had been years since I worried about sleeping in a hotel bed, this place... more
My family stayed here for one night as we travelled to see our family in Toronto. My wife and I have stayed many hotels around the world: East Germany, in the hills of Nepal.India, etc. and this has to be the worst!!!
Very dirty...needs to be updated. The comforters were from the 70s and so are the mattresses. Did not enjoy the stay but was too tired to leave. The good, pet friendly which is not easy to find. Not impressed and would not stay there again.
I was in Cornwall on Business, despite work paying for the room, I still try and book at modest hotels to keep costs down for my employer. My first peeve is that I booked online and was quoted 90 dollars, fine I thought, fair price for a decent hotel room. To my surprise there is a big sign out front... more
This hotel was barely adequate for an overnight stay. All the furnishings and decor are in need of a refresh. Internet was slow and intermittantly functioning. Hot water worked after playing around with taps for a minute. Basic cleanliness and no bugs as far as I could see. Not a great value either.
At first we booked this hotel to save a few bucks, but as soon as we saw the place we instantly regretted it. The outside was shabby and run down and the parking lot was filthy. Our room was the last room on the back side of the building right in front of the dumpster. Too top it off there... more
we basically needed a shower and a place to hang our heads over night. The hotel is much older than some of the others but the desk clerk went out of his way to help us be as comfortable as possible overnight. For our money and what we got 75/80 out of a 100. It is "Econo" after all and not the RITZ. If we had needed luxury and plush this was not what we paid for. They even provided a small... more
Just took a chance on this motel while passing through from NS to Toronto. A bit outdated but fairly clean & in a very good location. A good nights sleep at a reasonable price. The 2 staff members I came in contact with were very friendly. To those whiners expecting a 12 star hotel at 1/2 star prices, this isn't... more
We ended up staying here for one night as a stopover while driving back to Toronto from Quebec. We stopped in Cornwall, but being later in the evening without a hotel booked we drove around and looked at a few places and this one looked the most 'decent'.
It is an old, run down building, really you are just paying...

This motel was disgusting. The parking lot was filthy, the outside of the building had stuff splashed all over it. The bed was ancient, the room smelled, there was some type of rodent in the back parking lot. After viewing all of that we opted to leave and stay elsewhere. DO NOT even consider staying at this motel.
We stayed in a room with two queen sized beds. The room was in a good condition with new mattresses. The staff at the front desk was professional. We had a good nights sleep and in the morning the free continental breakfast was great. The place is reasonably priced and it has good service. I would highly recommend it to... more
We read the previous reviews and had our doubts about staying here. Other than the good price, I can not think of any reason why anyone should stay in this hotel.

The room had tarnished/clouded fixtures in bathroom, live insect in bathroom, stained toilet, peeling/patched wall vinyl, drapes off the track, stained pillows, musty lobby, stained hallway ceiling, chipped stucco walls in hallway,
Just what you expect from an econolodge, a clean bed and a roof.
It was getting late and we had reached the point of "anything would do". It wasn't that bad; the bathroom was very outdated, no hairdryer and didn't stick around for the complimentary breakfast.
I stayed one night at this property. I read some reviews after checking in and it found they were in general a bit too negative. While indeed the hotel is nothing special, we found the room clean, the beds okay and the room even had a small fridge. The free continental breakfast again was not special, but decent. This is an older motel, but the room was comfortable and breakfast was included in the price. Overall good for an overnight stay.
Check in was very late, so i had to take off a star for that.

I would not hesitate to tell friends about this hotel. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable, staff exceptionally helpful, excellent morning coffee and the price was right!
This was one of those "I'm driving in around midnight, will be leaving by 7:30 am for a meeting" stays -- all I wanted was a bed. It had that, decent quality (not good, not bad). My room was acceptably clean if a bit shabby, bathroom was clean, towels etc. all in place. It served my needs. The free breakfast... more
I would NEVER EVER stay again at this hotel even after 13 hours of straight driving and needing a rest. It would have been better to stay in the car! We stayed here because we had eaten at the Italian restaurant next door - which was open late and delicious, by the way! However, the EconoLodge was disappointing. I stayed here in mid-August while attending a friends' engagement party. I chose it because of its location, and they give CAA rates. There were some saving graces (quick check in, relatively clean overall), but the cons outweighed the pros on this stay.
