Hotel Universel près de l'Université Laval

Je n'ai pas vraiment aimé ma chambre car la salle de bain sentait vraiment la vieille cigarette. Je l'ai dit à la réceptionniste et elle m'a proposée de changer de chambre, mais il était tard et j'étais vraiment fatiguée. Selon moi le problème aurait dû être réglé avant que j'arrive (lorsque la femme de chambre a nettoyé la chambre...).

The spa area is very nice

This is a renovated older hotel that received a facelift that is wonderful, three story spa and pool area is wonderful after a day in the cold, the whirlpool with warm waterfall spouts is great. For the price, great hotel; staff is friendly, good food in the attached restaurant

Expensive for what it is

Light bulb was dead and had to be changed. The bath had mould on the walls as well as cracked tiles. For a short stay, one hardly want to call the reception to tend to a light bulb. For the price the breakfast should have been included.

Nothing amazing about this hotel but clean. Well located, area is fine, not too far from the action in Quebec. Very nice pool and spa inside the hotel. We had a superior room with spa in the room, well decorated.

It was very appropriate price to stay

I stayed Hotel Universial for attending ICCE2014, which was held in Laval Univ. The hotel office workers were kind for me as I asked some questions and helps. It was comfy to attend that conference from Hotel within 10 minutes walks. My colleagues and I used a bus from hotel to old town within 20 minutes distance by bus. I recommend to stay there with reasonable budget prices.

Clean, quiet and friendly.

I was travelling for business, so I picked the hotel for price and location. I speak some French but the staff were very comfortable speaking in English. First off, let me say that I slept well all four nights. I had a room close to the elevator, which was no problem. And It is so convenient to Universite´ Laval. And the bus lines. But it is an older hotel, completely lacking in charm or modern updates. I wouldn't have wanted to spend any time in the room... plus

we stayed here whilst on a tour, ironing board broken, which maybe i should have mentioned, but surely staff should check now and then? everything needs updating. Also think we were overcharged in the bar, by a few dollars as well, $10 for a beer is very high. would not stay again. Others were not impressed on our tour neither,... plus

Escapade en famille

Bien répondu à nos attentes. On recherchais un hôtel avec piscine pour divertir notre fille de 9 ans et à une distance raisonnable, en auto, du Vieux Québec. Plus que satisfaite de la piscine. Le décor est superbe! En bonus le Boston pizza avec football et tennis sur les écrans. La chambre était convenable. On va surement y retourner.

Confusion.

Our bus drivers had to explain their need for a longer stay to every hotel receptionist during their 4 day stay. It was not recorded any where, (even tho it was booked previously) Our busdrivers had to pay a 2nd time for their extended stay. Our busdrivers even had to change rooms 2x. Stay at this hotel only for the pool room. They have a 'naturally designed' pool with fountains, hot tub, cold tub, sauna, and steam room. Close to Universite Laval and some good places eat.

Weird smell and spiders

Well first off when I arrive at the check-in counter no one was there to greet me instead I had to wait 15 minutes for the staff member to show up. In the end they were polite and did apologize but I mean you should have someone staffing the lobby. The room I was smelly and not clean looking. About four miles outside the Quebec old city and directly opposite the university. There were road works right outside the hotel and once the noise overnight from the students ceased, the roadworks started. Stayed at this hotel on a tour of Canada and US and it was the worst of 10 hotels. Very shabby corridors. The hotel room seemed dirty and was in desperate need of updating. The hotel staff were aloof. The pool was nice, but very small and not great for children. I would not book this hotel again.

I stayed here for 6 nights while conducting research at Laval University. It is the closest accommodations to the campus (north side). After long days working in the lab, it was nice to know that we would be returning to a clean and comfortable room. The staff provided good customer service. Les tapis étaient très sales tout taché. La chambre était dépeinturée à plusieurs endroits. Les lumières de la chambre étaient très démodés et l'éclairage affreux.

Road construction, interesting lay out, good price

Road construction made it difficult to get to the first time, but we got the ins and outs quickly. It seems to have been at one point a motel style (external corridors and room doors). External doors were sealed and covered over. Price was a plus and reasonably close to Quebec City. Staff was attentive.

Main attraction of this hotel is pool n spa area. Otherwise room are average, location is ok, one need vehicle to go to main tourist attractions. I will suggest to chose location of old city if one wanted to enjoy the old french area with toursim point of view though one has to pay for parking of vehicle.

Très calme, peu bruyant, gens accueillants et sympathiques, seul déception est que le spa était brisé alors l'eau était tiède samedi et dimanche.

J'ai oublier ma bague a l'hotel. C'est sure a 100% qu'elle etait la. J'ai apeller et mon rapeller 2 minute apres pour me dire qu'il ne l'avais pas. Ca prend pas juste 2 minute regarder partout! vous l'avez trouver pi vous l'avez vendu ou anyway dernière fois que j'allais dans votre hotel!!!

Manque de stationnement, chambre de bain minuscule et même les chambres rénovées ont besoin de rénovation. Les normes de propreté sont au minimum.

Malheureusement, les lits étaient très inconfortables bien que c'était des chambres économiques, nous nous attendions à mieux au point où nous ne conserverons pas les coordonnées de l'hôtel pour d'autres réservations ultérieures.

Nice hotel, but road work right in front

nice looking hotel,inside and out, but there was road work going on right in front and a little hard to get in. Pool/Room area was a little weird. You could walk right into someone's room off the pool, no privacy. Pool was Very small and taken over by little children. No coffee in your room, had to pay $1.50 if you want one.

Smelly old hotel with facelift

The room looked nicely updated but smelled old and damp when we walked in. The air conditioner was very noisy even at the low setting but this did help to drown out the noisy club right beside our room. Bed was pretty comfortable. Person at the front desk preferred to answer the phone over speaking to people at the desk - made me wait while she answered the phone.

Amazing pool.

Travelling with 3 kids we really had a great experience. The room smelled a bit funny on arrival, almost as if people had been smoking in it, but whatever that was; the room was clean and neat. The pool is absolutely amazing, not big, but very nice. Staff was very friendly too. Greatly located as well. We loved Boston Pizza as the breakfast option.

Pleasantly surprised.

From the rear entrance, the hotel didn't appear to be too impressive. BUT, we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The pool area was very nice. There is a Boston Pizza attached to the hotel and a Tim Horton's just steps away. The hotel is across the street from the University football stadium and 10 minutes from Old Quebec.

This is a simple hotel that is priced well in an expensive city. The rooms are adequately sized & comfortable. We had a great stay

The hotel is dated but definitely served it's purpose. The staff were very helpful. We had a nice big room and everything worked. We absolutely loved and took advantage of the Nordic Spa a couple times. It was the perfect place for a girl weekend.

Comfortable and affordable

We stayed at this place for one night only. Checked in around 9:30 pm. We asked to see a room. The first room we checked was so cold. We had to wait until 23h00 to be able to get a parking space.... We didn't get the room we asked when we reserved...big disapointment, we wanted a room with a balcony over the pool area. No made cleaned our room so no bed made, no dry towels, no shampoo, no coffee....... Noise over the week end since it was pee wee tournament...kids were playing small hockey in the... plus

To be honest,not much. The staff were very helpful The pool area
looked nice.

Worn carpet. Smelled a little musty in the hallway. Bathroom needed
caulking around the bathtub. The other bed was broken. Chipped paint
everywhere. Restaurant was not good. I won't be staying there again.

The facility was very nice and the staff was very pleasant.

No restaurant service available, although it was advertised. The one
breakfast we had, we were told was complementary, but were charged $10
each for. The bathroom was tiny and the round sink, while stylish, was
horrible to use.

The nordic spa was great! Hot tun and sauna room. Rooms were clean and
cozy with a decent size tub for a soak!

Close to Laval campus

From the outside it looks like a small motel, but it is larger than it appears. I had a room with a balcony overlooking the pool area. I was worried about noise, but they seem to enforce an 11 pm curfew. The room was larger than usual. There was a bath and a shower that were nice. The work desk... plus

The best hotel in Québec city!!! Brilliant bilingual staff, outstanding facilities, ideal room service, nice and quiet, fully airconditioned, great prices - all in all, everything is up to the highest standard. Right away feels like a second home. :) We loved it.

decent value accommodations near Laval University

It would be easy to criticize Universel - its design is so 1960, looking more like a drive-in motel so common along America's interstates. It's too far away - sure, it's along Chemin St. Foy, which leads all the way directly to the Quebec city center but you couldn't possibly walk it, even in an hour. So you're forced to... plus

Very Nice Stay

We stayed at this Hotel in March 2013. The price at $116 for 2 queens was very reasonable.
Very clean, spacious and well- maintained. Fluffy white towels and nice toiletries in the bathroom as well. The pool and sauna area is a great place to relax and the restaurant in the hotel serves excellent meals. We would definitely stay again!

Having an identity crisis

This hotel is having an identity crisis. Parts of it were very well-maintained and modern, but other parts were less so. The lobby and atrium are as well-maintained as the website shows, but the overall hotel was not. Quite a shabby unkept place. First time I've ever posted pictures because it is disrespectful to keep a place like that for tourists. Owner has no respect, or no money. There are better options in Quebec City

First impression was not great. Neon sign had the"H" burned out, paint on the sign on the wall was peeling off. Seemed like a hotel in need of some upkeep.
We were given a room that didn't match our reservation. We had reserved a king room with pull out couch. Received a room with two queen beds.

Better than it looks from the outside

At first glance, the Universel looks like an out-dated hotel/motel from the 50's. However, it has been up-graded inside, and while the paint is a little chipped and the doors scuffed, the rooms are comfortable. Beds are new and bathrooms up-dated recently. Inexpensive and Cozy

Nice place with very helpful staff. If you don't speak French, they are more than willing to help you find locations. Located on a Main Street, it's close to shopping, highways and restaurants. The room was a good size and kept clean. I would stay there again.
