I spent a week at this hotel last summer. We chose it because it had a garage, breakfast option and a fridge in the room. It was also fairly priced and had good reviews. I highly recommend the place. We opted out of the breakfast option as we could buy food items from local stores and keep
them in the...

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for one night during summer and had a great experience. I wanted to highlight a few things I loved about this hotel:
1. The hotel is in a great location (safe) and close to the subway. So if you are planning to go around the city via subway and not drive much,...

My daughter and I stayed for four nights during a college visit to Concordia. The hotel was extremely close to the school, public transportation, etc. The hotel was great! We had a corner room which was huge, great view, etc. I would highly recommend it and I would definitely stay there again!
I stayed during the thanksgiving weekend. The room was clean and spacious. Not too expensive.
I thought it was a nice clean room. Staff are very friendly. We were at 1712 and the first night was fine but the next day on Sat. we could hear people moving around a lot with chairs and all. The office checked and there was meeting rooms booked from Sat to Mon early in the am to late pm... plus
We had a really pleasant couple of nights here in a spacious room with a great view of downtown Montreal. Sadly, this hotel is closing for good at the end of the month. We had extremely spacious suite with well appointed accommodations at Hotel Du Fort for 2 nights. HOWEVER as of 10-31-13 the hotel was to be closed for the process of being converted to condos. Unfortunately construction on the conversion had already begun and had caused some water damage on another floor below. On our last night there was NO running... plus
My wife and I had an overnight stay at this hotel. We walked around the hotel for shopping and dining in the evening. There are many restaurants and stores in this area. The area was not so impressive, but okay. We went sightseeing in Montreal the next day.
First off my review may not be very fair because the main reason I didn't like this hotel was because there was a water pipe issue for the day that I stayed. As soon as I get to my hotel after travelling I like to take a long bath but when I opened the water to fill the tub it... plus
Hotel Du Fort is a lovely hotel in good condition with clean and good sized rooms in a great location. It is older and well maintained, giving it unique charm. Very pleasant staff although unhappy with upcoming closure.
When we got to the hotel we thought that we had made a mistake as it didn't look a good location. However were were wrong.

We only stayed at the Hotel du Fort for 1 night but we had an excellent stay. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and upgraded us to a suite with windows on 2 sides. Our GPS was a tad confused getting from 20 to the hotel but after a bit of recalculating it got us there. Parking and check-in were a breeze and our stay was thoroughly enjoyable. Getting back from the hotel to the expressway to 20 and the 401 was the shortest I've experienced in a long time.
This hotel was decent, although not as nice as the pictures they display. The beds were INCREDIBLY comfy. However, while they show nice, flat screen TV's in the rooms in the pictures, our rooms had old TV's. But the comfort of the bed certainly made up for this. While the staff was great and very helpful, we did arrive early,... plus
I have been coming to Montreal frequently for many years and this hotel has been the best I have experienced. For the price and location, the rooms are huge and comfortable. Another long weekend great stay at the Hotel du Fort. We've been staying here for years both for business and for pleasure.

Very comfortable, quiet, and in all respects a thoroughly enjoyable stay.
The hotel is located 5 minutes away from the metro. Located downtown on saint catherine west. Very famous street in montreal.
This hotel was wonderful! It's close to restaurants and cafes. The room is huge and clean, and the staff was really nice and welcoming. Would recommend this hotel to my friends and family that are visiting Montreal.
I needed a accommodations for 8 nights on my first stay in Montreal. I needed to be centrally located near goods and services as well as entertainment. Asking too much? Not at all.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Clean, central location.
We've stayed at the DeFort a few times, as well as chain hotels in Montreal. We will stay here from now on. It is a very nice hotel with extremely clean, quiet, spacious rooms, and pleasant staff. It is also close to many stores, restaurants, and McGill.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Price for parking($21 per day) was a bit steep.
We stayed twice. This is an amazing hotel for the price. We actually had a third reservation, but were advised to find another hotel (well in advance), as this one is closing down permanently on October 31, 2013.
Stayed here as the prices were far too high in nicer hotels. Service was consistent and pleasant. Parking was very expensive at 21$ a night- not even valet for that price. Don't bother trying to go down into the 'public parking' right beside the hotel before setting it up with the front desk- even though it says $14 per day... plus
We stayed here for one night and were really happy. The location was decent, a little farther than some other hotels but still good. The rooms were HUGE especially for downtown Montreal. It's a little dated but they have tried really hard to modernize it and have done a decent job. Decent place for couples, family, single people, etc.
Absolutely met and exceeded all our expectations. Got a steal on the room at 101$ at night from Hotwire. Locafion was perfect, near metro & local night life. We stayed here for several nights to attend the Montreal Film Festival. The hotel is on Rue du Fort, less than half a block from the east-west cross street, Rue Sainte-Catherine. I chose to stay on one of the top floors for the city view, which was pretty good. Beds were comfortable and room included small refrigerator, coffee pot. Spacious enough for 2 adults who like separate beds.
Great location for walking east and west. Comfortable large room and nice bathroom.

The air conditioner in our room was very noisy.
Location is quite good! If you dont mind walking 2k (or metro or bus) to get to old montreal than this is a great hotel. Very close to rue St-Catherine. La Reception a l'acceuil etait excellente! Merci beaucoup! :)
I expected that this supposed 4 to 4 1/2 star property would be very nice, especially as it is in the heart of downtown Montreal amongst its competition and because it rates itself very highly. It has a basic gym, decent rooms, no swimming pool, "full" breakfast (included in some packages) but not much else. Staff are very nice but... plus
This is a no frills option away from noisy downtown nightlife scene, which is important to those who prefer getting a good night's sleep. No guarantee of course. Hotel du Fort was a great hotel. It is conveniently located on Ste. Catherine's street, 2 blocks away from where the bars and restaurants really get going. Hotel du Fort was clean and very comfortable. Parking garage next door so we didn't need to drive in town. About a 10 minute walk to the subway. I have to say, after reading all the rave reviews, I was very disappointed with my experience. The location is pretty good - right off of St. Catherine Street, which is a major shopping/restaurant area in Montreal. The hotel itself was incredibly dated. Our family stayed at Hotel Du Fort for 3 nights in July. The rooms are a good size. We had a king bed and a pull out for the kids. This hotel on the western edge of downtown Montreal was a welcome respite after busy days of touring. All the good things said about this hotel is true. Our room was large, the staff were super friendly and helpful (fyi, they have maps at the front counter) and the location was great. We used the Metro (10 min walk), the biki bikes (1 blk away) and drove our car (great access to the 720). Would definitely stay here... plus
Comfortable room, more spacious than expected for an older city hotel. We were on the top floor, and it had not only a great view, but was very quiet. Front desk folk helpful and friendly. Location not in the center of things, but okay for our purposes. We would go there again, when we are in Montreal.
Decent hotel, executive suite was large and had excellent views. The furnishings were dated, having a CRT television in the bedroom and a microwave with dial controls instead of a touchpad at the wet bar. The wallpaper was aged but in good condition, the carpet was weathered. The beds were very comfortable and the room was extremely quiet with independent temperature controls. The location is... plus

Amazing value for money! Front desk staff were excellent and reservation manager was really awesome by matching the Hotwire rate for an error that I made in the booking. Will definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends who are travelling to Montreal. -Warren
We've stayed here two times now. The 1st time (last year) we had a smaller room, but the view was amazing! My wife and I just got back from Montreal, where we spent the 4th of July weekend. What a great idea it was to escape NJ with its unbearable heat and humidity! Hotel Reps/Staff were so friendly and nice. We had a do not disturb on one night and upon returning to the room, got a call to check if we needed anything. drove up to Montreal for the Jazz Festival. Location was excellent, two blocks form metro to Port Montreal and walking distance to the festival (1 1/2 miles east on Rue St. Catherine). The room was clean and the service excellent.
The hotel was ok, but it was good for the price. The location was also great - close to most things we wanted to do. The bed was not very comfortable (too soft) and the room smelled a bit musty. We stayed at hotel du Fort july 3-6.. with two little ones, 2 and 4 yr.old. The hotel was very nice, staff was excellent. Location was central. . walking distance to a lot of things. I just wish the hotel had a swimming pool. Overall, great experience.
Hotel du Fort has a great location being in the down town area but not that close that it is overly noisy. Close to freeway, restaurants and other in city activities (such as festivals). Rooms are spacious and quiet. Nice breakfast set up and underground parking is available.
Staff were very good.
A great location right off St. Catherine's St. Friendly, helpful staff. Free parking!-rare to find in a major city. Close to the subway. We were there for the Mtl Jazz Festival and it was far enough away from the outdoor stages that it was quiet and peaceful.
We booked this at a competetive rate through Hotwire and weren't disappointed. Subways were close by, rooms spacious and clean, staff friendly and knowledgable.
Everything worked out in our favour.
Appreciated free internet access & printing in business centre.

This hotel is just ok. The price was pretty cheap which is their main plus. Location-wise, it is a bit far from old town, latin quarter, etc but the subway station is about a 5 minute walk. A cool, hip and quiet hotel...

Location; friendly staff.\n\nBroken lamp; difficult TV; malfunctioning door lock -- it's starting to feel rundown; St Catharine is now rundown in the area also.\n\nThe Du Fort is in the perfect location for our annual shopping weekend, especially given proximity to St Catharine Street and the Metro. Underground parking takes the pressure off leaving your car on the street in winter. This was... plus
Its location.\n\nVending machine was not working.\n\nDecent hotel. I was given a handicapped room which was a first but no big deal. The big attraction was its proximity to things.
We made a res after getting a deal through 'Living Social'. This gave us an early (11 am) check-in and a late (3 pm) check out.
This hotel is right downtown just off St. Catherine and only a few blocks from Atwater Ave. This is great spot.
We were able to park right in front of the hotel for unloading and checking in. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well as bilingual (as are we.)...

The staff, the quality of the room and the kitchenette.\n\nI liked the hotel, but I didn't like the neighborhood. St. Catherine is a bit seedy there.\n\nComfortable, friendly staff and the parking is convenient.
Enjoyed the stay, helpful staff, good location, great weahter!
It is a good choice with a few mentions:1) the hotel shares the building with a college (la salle) and so the rooms are located floors 10-18. If you are claustrofobic, beware, you have to climb stairs. It is actually not too bad!2) they charge parking fees of 21$/dayOther than that the double beds are kinda small, but doable. The room is big and clean with big bathroom and small kitchenette... plus
The hotel is located right on Rue du Fort, which is basically the beginning of the St Catherines shopping district. The room was quiet at night, but still only minutes away from the city's nightlife. 3 Metro stations are within 10 minutes of the hotel. Overall, perfect location! The staff are VERY friendly and helpful! The front desk staff always offered helpful guides, maps and tips for... plus
A good business hotel in a good location near a number of metro stops. No onsite restaurant but plenty in the immediate vicinity. Clean and comfortable, very quiet. Good value for the money.
Old fashioned furniture in the room, which I quite liked, and the room was huge including a small kitchenette with microwave, etc. But alas, you have to pay extra for each device you want to connect via wifi which feels just about as old fashioned as the furniture, so only four stars.
Hotel looks nothing like the pics.I have stayed at several 3 star hotels in the past and had beautiful rooms and attractive surroundings. The hotel furniture is extremely dated (not the antique kind of dated furniture). The carpet looks dirty and old. The carpet in the hallway on the 11th floor where I stayed reeks. This hotel needs a major facelift!!!! The customer service was great though. The... plus
I went to Montreal to vacation to get away from the summer heat of FL. I choose this hotel because of the reviews that I read through carefully. All I can say is 'to each his own'. I was shocked by the 'oldness' of the hotel when I arrived to my room. The lobby was not very impressive therefore my bubble began to burst before I even entered the room. Not in a million years would I have dreamed... plus
friendly staff.\n\nbreakfast was not worth the money.\n\nOverall a good value. Clean, quiet, good location.
Visited Old Montreal. Short taxi ride from the hotel. Loved the whole visit.
Great location. Front desk upgraded our room to a Junior Suite which was very spacious and had a great view. Great value for the price!!\n\nNo parking included. We found it was MUCH cheaper to park in a nearby parking garage than in the hotel garage.\n\nGreat value for the money. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Very friendly staff, great location, clean rooms.
Proximity to metro stop. It was right outside the front door.\n\nHotel was clean, convenient and reasonably priced. Very close to the metro.
Clean. Quick check-in check-out.\n\nI would recommend this hotel to anyoneI know.
Great room - it had a fantastic view of downtown Montreal, close to the metro and plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby. I also used the fitness room, which was great. The room was spacious and cleaned meticulously everyday. It even had a mini-fridge!
Friendly staff\n\nSmelled smoke in a smoke free room.\n\nGreat stay. We were pleasantly surprised. It was a bit of a walk to downtown attractions, but we could do it on foot. Nice view from the room and having a two room suite was great since we were traveling with a n older child.
polite, helpful, a nice hotel. I'll return there next time I am in Montreal.
Beautiful hotel, personnel kind and helpful. [...]
Room was clean and service was very good; staff was knowledgeable and helpful...good place to stay when visiting Montreal.
It was just fine, hotel is located close to lots of stores and restaurants. Good if you rent a car, parking is extra for $21 a day but airport transfer is about $30 each way. City is easy to get around and will save you some $
great value for money, great location, bad experience with one employee, but he recognised his mistake, not so often cleaning of rooms, but you cann't say that are dirty. I will definetely use that hotel again!
Our intent to visit Montreal wasa to experience what we call "Little Paris" TO our own fault, the hotel location was not close to "Old Montreal". That said, the Hotel Du Fort provide easy access for the Metro. The hotel was nice and clean, however, the photos provided did not portray the hotel as is. The bathrooms in particular we tiny. We did have to change rooms on our last night to find... plus

From the moment we walked in around 11 A. M., we were greeted with great enthusiasm....We checked our baggage because our room was not ready...check is at 4 P.M. We finally got in our room about 3 P.M. The room was very adequate size wise and comfortable...The hotel is located away from the downtown and water front tourist area..However, there are a number of restaurants, stores, etc. in the... plus
Great location for shopping, bit further to walk to downtown/vieux Montreal but metro 5 minutes walk away. Felt very safe walking alone in the area even at night (not something I'd do in my hometown of Leeds through choice!).
The location is good (right off Rue St. Catherine). Maybe it was the particular concierge person I dealt with, but they did not declare upfront the separate charges for the car parking while they gave me the parking pass. I had to ask them for the amount, which felt very deceptive.
Staff is completely bilingual and very helpful. Even called aaa for me when my car battery died. Hotel is a short walk from three metro stations and lots of shopping and restaurants.
we were there to enjoy some sight seeing and some nice meals. the hotel was convenient to the metro, bistros and shopping.
The staff was incredibly helpful with everything and in particular directions. We loved the neighborhood because it is in the center of Montreal and has many restaurants from varios countries which reflect the new wonderful mixture of the people of Montreal.Everything was super clean and the little kitchens made life so much easier.
Great hotel with a very courtious and helpfull staff. Very clean rooms and very quiet. location is close to the metro, shops and restaurants. I enjoyed my stay at Hotel du Fort.
we were in town for only one night where I had some business. The hotel is definitely a local hotel but was a very comfortable and clean property. The front desk could have been a bit more clear in directing us to the hotel parking lot which is a bit convoluted. But the woman that checked us in was in training as her name plate indicated. Breakfast room was comfortable, quiet, and food was... plus
It was great. Nice location and very helpful staff. There is no pool or workout room, but I don't need either when on vacation in Canada. Breakfast $11 at the hotel.
Very helpful front desk. Our room safe did not work, and we had someone show up to fix it right away.
We travelled to Montreal for a 3 night stay before moving on to Quebec City. We chose the Hotel Du Fort after reading other reviews. I am a very light sleeper so I always rate my hotel on the comfort and peacefulness. I hate hearing other people in their rooms. This didn't happen in the Hotel Du Fort. All 3 nights I had uninterupted sleep in the large comfortable bed (this is rare). Our room was... plus
Walking distance to numerous restaurants, night life, and fun shopping. Staff was polite and helpful, room was well equipped with amenities and very quiet, comfortable, and clean. I will be recommending it to anyone who would like to stay downtown and has a restricted budget! My only criticisms are... plus
My daughter and I came to Montreal for the Jazz Festival. This was our first visit to the city. The hotel was more than we expected for the price. I have traveled to Europe and thoughout North America and this hotel rank as one of the best, again for the price. The room was very clean and spacious. The staff were very accommodating and courteous. There was a very welcoming atomsphere about... plus
The hotel is conveniently located near downtown. Everything you need is just steps away on St. catherine Street - shopping, restaurants, supermarkets. There are two Subway stations nearby. I used Guy-Concordia. The subway is very easy to use. The rooms at the hotel are very spacious. The decor is casual and plain but homey. Beds are comfortable. The maid service is very efficient. The staff were helpful, but the nature of the trip meant they could not help much,Business center was tiny and unavailable, and prices for breakfast and wifi exorbitant for what was provided.
The hotel is in a great location, just 3 blocks from the subway. (With the Montreal subway, you can get anywhere in just minutes.) My room was very large and included a small refrigerator and a microwave oven. The hotel is VERY quiet (I was there over Grand Prix weekend - al BIG party!) and the bed was superior. I slept better than at home. I don't know if they have a fitness center or pool.... plus
We didn't spend much time at the hotel as we spent most of the time sight seeing, but the time we spent there was extremely quiet and restful, just what we needed after each long day of walking, picture taking and eating the wonderful food the city has to offer. We were near the elevator, but never heard it open or close, and we never heard people in the hallway. The room was always clean and... plus
For a reasonable price I got a VERY large comfortable room with a great view of the city looking east. The location is convenient to downtown and the freeway, though not in a particularly interesting immediate area. The staff was very nice. Because the hotel rooms start on the 10th floor, away from the street, they are pretty quiet.
Hotel is located at west end of City, we had a car and it was no problem, parking was much cheaper than Old Montreal. Hotel was very inexpensive for a large double room with two bathrooms!
We had a large, very clean, nicely decorated room with kitchenette (micro, fridge, sink, cabinets, coffee maker, cups & glasses), table & 2 chairs for eating, and a sitting area (large sofa, coffee table, chair and ottoman). For the kitchenette, you can request additional dishes or utensils from the front desk. There is a separate vanity area with lighted makeup mirror & hair dryer. Bathroom... plus
Great time in Montreal. Hotel is older and was like having a small, comfy apartment in the city. We had a huge corner room with a kitchenette - extremely comfortable. It's right off St. Catherine Blvd. where we walked to restaurants and the center of the city. We chose to take a taxi to Old Montreal vs. drive. It is too far to walk. The breakfast is in a lovely dining room and was okay at... plus
Hotel is located very close to the centre of Montreal; staff was friendly but first gave us a room lower as described in the booking (we were 3 people and needed 2 separate rooms for sleeping). But after short discussion we received exactly what we had booked. Room was great (also view, 2 toilets!), sofa-bed not so comfortable. We also had breakfast in the hotel (9.95CAD) and this covered... plus
Calling the location of this hotel "downtown Montreal" is a huge stretch bordering on a lie. Really in the Atwater area. Drive or expensive taxi ride to downtown or Old Montreal. The few blocks around the hotel are seedy although not dangerous. No bell-hops; do-it-yourself for your bags. The "business center" consists of one PC in a small room; expect a long wait. The room was huge,... plus
Great boutique hotel right off of Rue Ste-Catherine. It's about 6 blocks east of Crescent St (where there are some decent resto's) and about 12 blocks east of the Eaton Centre.
We got a great rate (about $105
ight) for a King room on hotels.com. When we arrived at the hotel we found out that the crib was going to cost as an extra $10 \ night and the Internet would be an additional $11 \ night....

Convenient to metro and Crescent Street. Very helpful and courteous staff. Rooms are showing their age but are very clean and large, with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Gym is descent, as is breakfast (although there's no bar or "real" restaurant). Area is a bit seedy, especially at night, but not necessarily dangerous, just a few more toothless hookers than you might be used to. Great... plus
Had a single room for the Grand Prix weekend. Great hotel located within easy walk of the Metro. Room was clean, hotel was quiet and the staff was very helpful and professional. I would be proud to stay at this hotel again.
We were in Montreal 3 nights in September 2006. The rooms were roomy and very comfortable with great view of downtown. Staff was helpfull and spoke English. Location was excelent, couple of blocks to subway station, on corner of St Catherine. Crescent St is less than 10 min walk from hotel. Many other restaurants nearby as well as several grocery stores. We will be staying with Hotel Du Fort... plus
At first we were a bit suprised at the neighborhood, as we are suburbanites and this is a downtown area, so we are used to more green space and a regular parking lot. They have a garage to park in, but that will cost you each day. We had a rental car as we were going on to Quebec City. Did not use the car at all in Montreal. We took the Metro to places we wanted to see. Easy enough. Our room at... plus
