Hotel des Arts is situated in Downtown Montreal. A few blocks away from both Saint-Laurent and Saint-Denis, Hotel des Arts Montreal is a great place to stay if you want to experience the lively hood of Montreal's Quartier des Spectacles.

Very Dirty Hotel; Tub covered of dirt; the drain was clogged by hair; the pillow cases were not cleaned. There was a lot of hair inside. the elevator broke down and we stayed stuck in it.
Expedia should not consider this hotel to recommend others. Wash room is good and clean and the rest facilities are not at all good and standard
Heart of downtown montreal and it's a place to stay. Sheets had burn holes, smells funny when you first walk in but if you open the window it's alright. Nothing amazing but if your just looking for a bed that's close to all the action I'd recommend it.
Dirty hotel, which stinks. When eventually I worked out how to turn the lights on it was not light enough in any case. The nearby windows looked into my room so I had to keep the curtains shut if I wanted any privacy. There were no easily accessible plug sockets to charge my phone/laptop. The bathroom was grubby. But the bed was nice, and the staff tried their best. Fundamentally you should... plus
The hotel upon looking at it is not fancy but it is suitible. At first the location in the ally was a bit concerning but I soon realized that it was safe and close to everything in downtown Montreal. It was close to major attractions and popular tourist destination. All in all I could pretty much walk anywhere from the hotel. The deal I got justified the service and was good for the money spent.
La chambre n'était pas propre. Beaucoup de poussière. Les lits pas confortables. Il n'y a pas de stationnement.
Close to St Catherine street, bars, Old Port $6.00 Cab or walk it.
Hotel is clean and well run the staff is helpful. But hotel has outdated interior and not inviting. Breakfast was a joke, few croissants and coffee and serial. The least they could do is make up in good breakfast. Like eggs, fruit toast etc.
I loved this hotel. After reading reviews on here about it, I felt a little sceptical at first. Price was right and location seemed pretty good for what I wanted to do. Once I showed up, the place was just as pictured. Nothing seemed out dated besides to elevator. My room was super clean, huge king sized bed was a bonus. I've seen a lot of complaints about this place but I couldn't see anything... plus
The staff is very friendly, the rest is OK. But I would recommend it because of the friendliness of the staff.
Rooms are gross but price is good. Perfect for a place to crash after a night out
I have stayed at Hotel Des Arts before, so it's good enough for my needs. I booked online with Expedia through a web special. However, to my concern, this time I found out that they had booked me into a "smoking" room, and I am a adamant non-smoker. When I requested a change to a non-smoking room, they charged me an additional $20 per night! (You would think that non-smokers should pay LESS... plus
Rather run down, but close to everything - subways, sights, etc. Pleasant breakfast area, low-key.
The staff was very nice and provided us many useful information about the city. The breakfast was ok, limited choices. The street of the hotel was dirty and looked not safe. When we lived in the room, we could hear sounds from the other rooms.
Right in the heart of Montreal. Perfect for us. A late night arrival and the staff was friendly
The shower only had two temperatures: too hot and slightly cold. The bath tub itself was unsightly and stained yellow. They only gave us one very small uncomfortable pillow for each person. There was no electrical outlet to plug the bedside lamp so it was completely useless. The electrical outlets themselves were loose and whatever you plugged into it fell out or disconnected. The room had a... plus
Nice location, near the Quartier des Spectacles and the St-Laurent and St-Denis streets and their nice shops and restaurants. Clean room, comfortable bed. However, the Wi-Fi was not always optimal, and there was no air conditioning in my room.
Nice enough place for a cheap stay right in the middle of the city. Made for a great trip
Amazing hotel for price and location. Easy access to metro station, Chinatown, McGill, eaton centre, casino etc. The street behind the hotel is filled with restaurants and bars. Although, breakfast was not as great as the food choices were limited (bagels, toast, cereal). The rooms were really clean and decent size and it really helps with free wifi.

Close to Faubourg St. Laurent, Quartier des Spectacles, Place des Arts. Something going on every day and night. Ste. Catherine St. close by. Hôtel que j'adore. Pas cher, tout près des Sainte-Catherine, le confort est bien.
Low end hotel - felt very uncomfortable.. Nails sticking out of the floor, carpet
This is one of the dirtiest place have ever seen. Location is ok (close to the centre), but the room was very dirty, noisy. Breakfast is very poor. Don’t book there.
Excellent location. Staff is nice, parking is terrible and rooms are very old and some maintenance required. Very cheap breakfast included. Was overpriced but I used it only because all the other hotels around where sold out.
Close to the subway station. Spacious room for 2 adults and 2 children. Need to improve : the breakfast
I appreciate Expedia's attempt to provide economical choices for hotels, however, this hotel should not be recommended for the following reasons: 1) Rooms are not clean. 2) Hotel is very outdated, with zero room amenities. 3) Very limited parking options. 4) Horribly noisy air conditioning units. 5) Actually pricing is high for what you get. We were told that this hotel was actually a converted... plus

Quiet hotel. Excellent location to all events in Montreal. In the heart of everything so you can walk to the Jazz fest, the Latin Quarter, the Village, China town etc.
I've stayed here every summer for the last 10+ years; some renovation has been done since the conversion from Econolodge to Hotel des Arts. I use it because the value is very good, staff is always helpful and the location is great. Breakfast is mostly cereals, toast, croissants; good coffee and juice. Parking is terrible, there are no readily available spaces for their customers; if they don't have enough space they should have at least tie up with those public "pay" parking nearby so that customers don't waste their time looking for those public parking themselves.
Chambre propre. Déjeuner simple (roties, croissants, céréales, jus d'orangr & café). Personnel aimable.
Hotel was close to the main street, and was the reason I booked this hotel. Helpful staff, reasonable price and close to the metro.
everything seemed to be purchased 2nd hand, but was all acceptable. Staff was extremely nice and accommodating! Location was very convenient for Grand Prix weekend. Close to metro and closed off event streets.
Nice hotel but located in a run down area. I was in town for the F.1 race and the hotel is conveniently located next to one of the metro stops on the way to the track. All in all, it was 2 metro stops and 4 minutes away from the circuit which was convenient.
Horrible state of disrepair. More like a hostel than a hotel. Close to good and bad in Montreal. Not worth the inflated Gand Prix pricing.
i enjoyed the hotel, I've been their before and will go back again.
found a bed bug in my bed, told management and they just said we can't do anything. Also the area around the hotel is quite sketchy. Definitely spending the little extra money for something decent next time.
Our room's toilet wasn't secured down so it moved around (would spin and lean) and the ceiling in the bathroom had water damage which hadn't been fixed. Everything seemed to be clean but not overly convinced the bathrooms were cleaned thoroughly enough

The best thing about this place is location! It's a quick walk away from China Town and Old Montreal. Also a quick tip-toe away from St. Laurent where you can enjoy all the hip things that Montreal has to offer like dessert, smoked meat, and bar-hopping if you prefer. How could you resist!?

If you want something fancy, book at the Westin. This is a perfectly adequate budget hotel that's located near everything in the downtown. The hotel overall was not horrible just based on the fact that we were not in the room all that much over the weekend. They charge $10 a visitor per visit which is ridiculous.
I hate writing bad reviews, but this was one time where I think it's my duty to ward off as many people as possible. Sure this place doesn't advertise as being 'fancy' or 'modern'. The check in staff and cleaning crew were all helpful. They don't proactively welcome you or smile a whole lot, but they assist you with all your questions and needs. We were allowed to store our bags at reception for a few hours after check...

Avoid this place at all costs. Bed bugs, filthy bathtubs, unwashed linens, stained and smelly carpets, smells like cigarettes and marijuana everywhere, rude staff, refused to refund my remaining 9 nights even after all this. I had the unfortunate experience of spending one night in this hotel just 2 days ago. Seriously, this place should be closed down. Disgusting!
My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 1 night in a non-smoking room with a king sized bed. We were on the 3rd floor. The place was tolerable, but it wasn't a great place to stay. The rooms and the place in general, including the TV, are all dated. The wall paper is peeling off in spots. There... plus
I would honestly say that Hotel des Arts was a 3.5 stars.
The price was cheaper than the other places that I had researched on. The hotel looked pretty old on the outside, which was pretty neat. Parking is sort of a pain because there are limited street parking outside of the actual hotel, and you need to follow the parking street rules of Montreal as well. They do give you a paper with...

Not the best of hotels for the money. In a slightly sketchy neighborhood. Carpeting is old. Bathroom ceilings not well re-done (cracks). Fire sprinkler in bathroom was covered in plastic obviously not working and not to building code. Not sound proof, someone's dog and music playing until the wee hours of the morning. Could hear the guy next door horking... plus
When we got into the room and checked bed bugs, we were surprised to find the box sat on top of a plywood frame with only a single support across the middle. The frame also did not cover the box spring, leaving about x inches overhang. Of course, when we sat down, it slipped into the void and we tipped... plus
I and six friends stayed here from 23 August to 26 August (2013) in two double rooms. The morning we were to leave, I looked up some reviews and became a little worried. These fears were soon allayed.
The location was easy to find, being so close to rue Sherbrooke. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by a...

The hotel is located about two blocks away from the St. Laurent metro stop. It is on a side street parallel to St. Laurent and perpendicular to Sherbrooke. This hotel is good if you are on a budget, however there is nothing truly special about it. The rooms are clean, bedding and linens are changed daily, and there is a continental breakfast (croissants, coffee/tea, juice, and cereal) from 7... plus
The Hotel is ok for 1 or 2 nights. The PROBLEM and is the case in many hotel, they put and advertise that they provide WiFi in all the place in the hotel. In the room and in the public area. In fact it's false. Impossible to connect in the room and the signal is so low even in the... plus
Despite all the bad reviews I loved this hotel. We came to Montreal for a weekend to celebrate a birthday and stayed here. The service was the best part of the hotel. The desk Attendent Rodney was so helpful and kind. He told us which bars to go to and which to avoid. He spoke very good English so this... plus
I had booked this hotel using a $95 Team Buy voucher for 1 night and 1 bottle of sparkling wine (Spanish cava). I stayed two nights and that was probably 2 nights too many. It shouldn't be listed as a 3-star because it is more like a 2-star. If it was accurately rated, I would've either expected less or elected... plus
Centrally located is the only good thing about this hotel.
Our room was filthy with an overwhelming dusty old smell. The carpet had obviously not been vacuumed in months. The one chair was so stained and dirty I could not bring myself to sit on it or even lay a jacket on it. The bathroom door did not fit the...

Centrally located although the area was a little frightening at first. Lots of graffiti around as well as a open area next to the hotel full of garbage. The hotel staff at front desk were very nice and the breakfast in the morning was simple but ok for a little snack in the morning.
The room was ok and comfortable,...

I rarely give a harsh review but for this, I would not be doing visitors any justice by sugar coating it. This place needs to be avoided. I wanted to like it. This hotel is located in a very central area, close to the metro, shops and restaurants. The price is great and they even offered free breakfast. It was... plus
From the moment we walked in, a slo-mo train wreck unfolding...
First, too expensive for a place this dodgy. Then they want to charge extra for the third person in our party. What we thought was a $125 room was actually a $170 room. The guys behind the counter seemed to be on drugs. It seemed to take peculiar effort...

Hotel is located about a block and a half from the entrance to the Jazz Festival and about a block and a half from the St. Laurent Metro station; also, about a 20-25 minute walk to the Old Port and the Cathedral, and three Metro stops from the Montreal Museum of Fine Art and the McGill college neighborhood. Room was basic but clean; breakfast also basic. Price was very, very economical. Parking... plus
The hotel is overall a decent hotel, but the location is amazing. The Jazz Festival was only 2 blocks away. This hotel was also very close to downtown and chinatown, and if you go up the street of saint laurent, there are other popular places, like Schwartz and other restaurant. The hotel staff is friendly but the rooms were decent.... plus
This is technically a 3 star hotel but I gave it 4 stars because it met so many of our needs for this stay. Yes, the breakfast is very basic but my husband and I don’t eat a huge breakfast so croissant and coffee was perfectly acceptable for us. They also frequently had a pot of tea in the lobby... plus
The location is good, the hotel is clean and the breakfast is nice, no lines even when the hotel was completely booked. Friendly staff.
I stayed twice and both times the experience was positive.
On my second time they only had smoking rooms. I booked a smoking but thankfully, didn't smell anything resembling a cigarette. I am extremely sensitive to...

The hotel suited our needs as we were only there one night, wouldn't have stayed any longer. The room is very clean but has a musty smell (almost like old smoke and dampness). The smell is not in the lobby or halls but just the room. The floor in the elevator wasn't the cleanest. There was free wifi and complimentary... plus
I stayed here when it was an Econolodge and it changed names while I was there. Anyhow, I was there with a friend for 3 nights. It was too long. I'm not sure if they still offer the breakfast but it was bare bones of one. There was cold cereal and coffee... The rooms were well used, that's for sure.... plus
handy location near to st Laurent metro stop. helpful staff. substantial breakfast but get in early as often crowded breakfast room. clean and good value for money 2 star as advertised. try the restaurant thali good value and food Indian restaurant nearby Ontario st.
Great value if you book with promotional room rate include continental breakfast. Near downtown location, walkable to everything.
I stayed there for three nights. It was chosen for an apparent value for money. Pretty close to downtown locations. I did see some eating places nearby, including one that services Indian food. But the fact the parking is not included in the room price makes the cost go up. Street parking is complex because the signs are posted in French and possibly there are certain times when those street... plus
Well the location is very good and the rate is extremley good. The beds are terrible and do not have a real mattress. Advertised queen bed but its only double. The linen was in terrible shape. The towels and the bathroom are not too bad. The parking is the issue if you have na car it will cost you $12... plus
My friend recommended this hotel as she is from Montreal and stayed here before so I was happy for the recommendation. As she spoke French she organised it when we walked into the lobby and arranged for a non-smoking room for $35 per night for 2 nights, so with taxes added up to $85 which I thought was reasonable. If you're on a budget this hotel is okay. The staff were friendly and if you have any concerns they help you right away. I am NOT a disdainful person. But that was just too disgusting: hair, filth, stains, stink, dust, the list of disgusting stuff we saw is endless.
Had to stay there, because we got stranded after a train was delayed. Couldn't get a room anywhere else. Had to pay 175$.
We barely slept, in our clothes, over the sheets.

Good location, average quality. Nothing negative to say, but it's definitely a student hotel. Staff was really friendly and helpful, and speak both english and French. Wifi and basic continental breakfast included.
I stayed in the hotel for 5days over the march break and I can say that it looks to be as the hotel as tremendously improved from previous reviews. My experience was good , I ofcourse had low expectations when reading the reviews but after I've stayed ther I was really surprised.

... für tolerante Reisende für kleines Geld. In nächster Nähe das angesagte Künstlerviertel Montréals.
I parked my vehicle out front of hotel and my window was smashed in and luggages stolen. The hotel did not havet room type as per my reservation. I was offered a smoking room, then a very dirty and smelly room, then I was offered a queen room that had a very strong odour of freshly burnt marihuana.
“The hotel lobby was very clean and the rooms seemed fairly clean as well. I was very pleased that there was a fridge in the room.”
Great place located only a few blocks from downtown Montreal. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Is not a 5 star resort, but for the price it was a great place to stay. Would stay here again for sure!
I was not allowed to get a refund although we were not being granted access into Canada. My friend had a DWI 7 years ago and they told us we can't stay (Racist Customs Agents after getting off the plane). They said since we had a place to stay we could sleep there and come back at 12pm and be "deported". The hotel manager AND orbitz refused to work with me in giving me a refund on at least the... plus
Great place to stay if you are want to save money and don't need or want a whole lot of fluff.
“We just wanted a place to stay overnight as we were there for a wedding, it was not fancy but ok for that.”
Just a few minute walk from downtown Montreal, the Econo Lodge is a great value for travelers who are searching for a deal. The rooms are relatively spacious and the service was quite attentive. There is no parking and amenities are minimal, but we were looking for this type of hotel. The neighborhood is not top tier, but manageable. All in all, this was exactly what we needed.
“I was gross and everything my friend and I took into the room smelled like smoke when we left.”
“The room we stayed in probably was not cleaned in a few weeks, cigarette butts everywhere, zigzag rolling papers in the room, beer bottles, stains on the blankets, no parking.”
“Hotel was very hard to find with very little signs for direction or to spot it as a tourist. Beds were not clean, poor water pressure for showering. Fridge in room did not work, front desk was not very helpful, no drinking glasses or ice bucket, I can go on and on.”
“Too noisy for middle age couple. The hotel was full and we could not change room, so we stayed in the colder room one night. Everything was working well in the second room. However, the bigger issue is the noise at night. This is party central in Montreal and a lot of young people stay there for the Weekend, so expect to hear doors clapping and people talking loud in the hallway and in... plus
“Upon walking into the hotel, the two men at the reception didnt have a clue as to what language I was speaking. “If you just want a place to crash that's centrally located while you're in Montreal, you could consider the economic lodge. A B&B would offer the same economy and would feel more like you were actually on a vacation, however.”
“If you're not too fussy about quality, the place is fine and very convenient. It's not dirty, but it has a much worn feel to it. The name "Econolodge" says it all. If you're on a tight budget, it's economical but don't expect too much.”
“This hotel is in a horrible location. It is not in downtown Montreal. It is located in the Latin Quarter. The buildings that surround the hotel are painted with graffiti. It was not a safe neighborhood to walk in after dark. I think you get my point. There is no parking at the hotel and the parking lot that the hotel staff refers you to is $20 Canadian per day and is unattended at night. Also,... plus
“The hotel is in a great location . Our initial reception at the hotel was not good, the front desk attendant was rude and very unhelpful but we never saw him again for the rest of the 3 nights we stayed and the rest of the staff were pleasant.”
“Run Down, no parking, rooms smell, beds broken, staff unfriendly.”
“Through no fault of ours, we were assigned to the wrong room and had to evacuate this even though we had already put our stuff there and somebody was already occupying the said room when we came back from having dinner. The faucet was leaking, the towel hanger came apart, and the carpet was damp. All in all, it was very disappointing! One of the rooms was booked for 3 occupants but the bed was... plus
“This hotel is in a good location. But its below average. The first room we were given has one double bed for myself and my son. Also, the room was very small. Once we all sat on the bed it sunk in on one side. I called and they change our room. The next room was a King size bed and this room was much better.”
“Acceptable only to recent escapees of Federal Maximum Security Prisons.”
“I was very disappointed at the service. Upon my arrival the manager was all defensive about my reservation, saying that I had made a reservation for a double smoking room, I never made such selection. The staff was rude. Other guests were having parties all night with alcohol and drugs in the room, slamming doors at all hours of the night. Staff could not keep them under control.”
This was the worst hotel in all of montreal...the beds were not comfortable. It smelled like rotten old socks. The bathroom look as if it had mold beginning to form on the sink and in the bathtub/shower area. The toilet wasn't completely fastened to the ground. The hotel staff was extremely rude and not helpful. I would never stay in the same area again
Good location, really 10 mins to walk up to old port, the room is great because it was king size bed and jaquisee inside. Breakfast as it was known will have cold croisants and very poor.
quiet and efficient. Room and Bed were comfortable.Great location. Close to Metro Stations and within walking distance to Latin Quarter underground city and other attractions. Staff was courteous and helpful. Continental breakfast with croissants and coffee. would definitely stay here again.
“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone except for desperate college students who are looking to get drunk in Montréal. The room looks as though it had been worked over pretty well. The heater did not work. Upon opening it up it appeared as though someone had vomited in it. The bath tub walls had some serious breaks in it, as though someone had thrown several punches to it. The sink was... plus
“The bed was broken, the breaker for the heater kept shutting off, and the staff was of no help any time I inquired about where a restaurant/attraction was in the city, there was no parking- I could go on.”
“We reserved this room one month ahead through the Internet, this was great. We reserved a non-smoking room but arrived to a room reeking of cigarette, unacceptable due to allergies. We insisted this was not right, the other clerk went up to simply offer another room without verifying the one... plus
