I was very pleased. The jambalaya was wonderful.....spicy but not overbearing. Nice sausage, The portion was large. My partner's quesadilla was also really tasty. And the soup of the day...a smoked salmon/lime/cilantro was wonderful! Great service too.
I went here with my boyfriend and a friend, and all 3 of us were disaponted. Perhaps we had hear so much hype our expectation were too high, but I felt honestly disapointed.
First of all the place is very small, so very busy of course which we expected. The service wasn’t great right from the start, and all through...

Sunday morning brunch at the High Level Diner is popular. Very popular. If you don't like driving around trying to find parking or standing in line long I would recommend arriving before 930 am. Is it worth it? The Eggs Benedict were good - english muffin hot and toasted, egg medium soft (they ask how you like it) and the... more
We’ve been eating at the High Level Diner for about 18 years now. Even with a change in ownership we have yet to be disappointed. Servers are truly professionals and very personable. There is lots of window seating as well as an outdoor patio. We always consider their meals to be reasonably priced and proportions sizes perfect for us. We... more
I have always enjoyed coming to the High Level Diner for the famous cinnamon buns. Today, I thought I would return for lunch. This has been part of the Garneau neighbourhood for a very long time. When I return, my visit invokes many great memories of great food. I was not disappointed today.
I had the chicken salad grilled cheese...

The High Level Diner was a great choice for our big group. The eclectic menu had something for everyone. I had the daily special of salmon, which was fantastic! The side salad was fresh and had more than just the usual ingredients of other restaurant side salads. Others in our group reported that the shepherds pie was very good. I... more
We went there for supper.I had the shepperd's pie and my wife a mediterranean plate I think. The portions are a good size but everything it's a little bit dry.The chicken souvlaki was 2pieces of reheated drumstick .The tabouleh salad could have use more olive oil and seasoning. The shepperd's pie was really really dry I had to put a lot of... more
We saw this place on tv we made a visit! Very much enjoyed what we had with exceptional service. We will definitely be attending again in the near future. We had the spinach pie with homemade fries and even homemade ketchup! Great place highly recommend.
We came here for brunch. I initially seen this place on the TV show, you gotta eat here. It is good but I didn't find it that great. We went on a day that they had Ukrainian food on special. My bf loved it. It had the saukeraut, sausages, peroggies, and sour cabbage rolls. The portion was very big. I... more
Sunny day to dine at a local favourite. The staff are friendly and warm, and the place riddled with everything Edmonton and Old Strath. The breakfast starts at 7:30 and the food is value for money and spot on ambiance.
Allways top notch food, service, venue, and cheesecake. First visited in the eighties, regular stop every time we are in Edmonton
Food is always delicious and as close to home cookin as you can get. Enough variety on the menu too. Wish we lived closer so we could go more often!
The High Level Diner is a quaint restaurant with a great atmosphere located at the gateway to Old Strathcona area just across the High Level Bridge in Edmonton, Alberta.
It is filled with the antique furnishings, local artists' works, and the aroma of healthy, hearty, delicious food wafting through the restaurant.
The restaurant has a varied and nutritious menu including...

My favorite restaurant in Edmonton. No matter what you order it is always great.
Downside is parking. It can be hard to find at peak times.
I went here recently with a group of colleagues and had a terrific evening. The service was efficient and friendly and the food was excellent. It is one of those places that offers a bit of everything, and usually this is not a great sign... no restaurant does everything well. These guys pull it off though. Was this the best... more
Good food doesn't always come from restaurants with modern or fancy furnishings. That is the case with the High Level Diner. When you walk in, you get a homey comfortable coffee house vibe. Directly on your right you will walk pass the line of awards and accolades bestowed to the restaurant. The restaurant reminds me of an antique store in... more
I met a friend for lunch at the High Level diner today and as always, everything was delicious. We both chose a soup and salad lunch special - mine was a very delicious cajun clam chowder and I selected Tabouleh salad and 7 grain bread to go along with it. A very good lunch for the reasonable price of $12.... more
I ate with a friend tonight at the High Level Diner. Neither of us had been there before, but I would certainly go again! We both chose the Blackened Tilapia with Chili Lime Sauce that was one of the featured meals tonight. It was wonderful! Perfectly done fish, just the right amount of kick to the spice, served piping hot... more
I ordered the Grilled Chicken & Cheddar Sandwich with fries. The sandwich is delicious. I have never had a grilled chicken salad sandwich. It was so yummy! You must try the Highlevel Diner's ketchup. It is very good. Very delicious, much better than Heinz Ketchup. My husband ordered the Guinness Shepherds Pie. He said it was very good. We shared... more
I met friends here for a late lunch. The menu selection was just OK and the salad was good. I was impressed that I was able to secure free parking in their designated parking area behind the Garneau theatre. The place needs to be updated. There were some tacky items hanging between tables - not sure what that was about.... more
Last night I and three women friends had dinner at the HIgh Level Diner. As usual, the meal was excellent (I had the spinach pie with tabouleh), service was excellent and the prices are very reasonable. I also had the soup special - lentils with spinach - delicious! Had a nice time here with a girlfriend for lunch. Burger was good but best part was the bread pudding made out of cinnamon buns and sided with the rum sauce and thickly whipped and chilled cream. Paired with Crabbies Ginger Beer from Scotland. Very good. Parking is horrible though and ended up with a ticket.
I was eating at the restaurant, and parked in the designated HLD parking stalls and they still gave me a $52 parking ticket.... STAY AWAY
The High Level Diner has been around for more than 30 years. It's been years stnce I spent any tie there, but at at one point, it was a go-to restaurant in my circles. Probably about 30 years ago... more

Friendly staff, great food and super dessert!! Excellent prices and large servings. We shared a fahita (sp?) and still couldn't eat it all.
Prompt, friendly service and a wonderful meal every time. Menu is interesting and the ingredients are high quality and fresh. There is something on the menu for everyone. Daily specials are delicious and reasonably priced. I come here every time I am in Edmonton.
This is the worst place I have been. The food was bad , service was bad. If you sit out side they give you plastic. The server said because you may steel it. Way over priced!!!! I seen the a man sit for about half hour to get water to start. If you like to over pay. And get bad... more
I ordered a vegetarian omelette with a side of fruit. After about 20-25 minutes I was served a dry, overly salty omelette that consisted of spinach and mushrooms. I suppose those were the "vegetables of the day" as stated on the menu. My "fruit on the side" (because you don't get fruit AND toast/hashbrowns, just one or the other) was... more
my favorite thing about the High Level Diner is the artsy atmosphere of the place....sure the food is quite good and so is the service, but it's the funky atmosphere that does it for me. I have only been to the High Level once, so I can't comment on consistency, but since the place has been around for 30 years,... more
Although it is always packed, the food and coffee are worth the wait. The omelettes are awesome and the homemade ketchup is worth buying to take home!
Have eaten here numerous times now and have never been disappointed. Staff are always friendly and willing to have a bit of a chat, your coffee and/or water glass is never empty, excellent service all round, even on busy Saturday mornings. The food is great without being anything overly spectacular, you can tell it's all made from fresh ingredients and... more
I know Edmonton must have a better breakfast joint, but until I find it I'll eat here... This is a busy place on the weekends, but in a nice way. Ate there are couple of times in July 2013. Breakfast menu is somewhat limited. Busy Saturday mornings. Can be very noisy.
It was featured in a local alternative newspaper but many of the ratings in that paper I am finding are way off the mark with highly rated restaurants being, at best, mediocre.
I had breakfast twice and also I...

the atmosphere is ecelctic, free spirited and down right fabtabulous!! I love this place for getting together with good friends, great food, and a great view of downtown from the southside. the only fall back is the parking situation... but the food is yum yum yummy!!
We had seen a feature on the television series "You Gotta Eat Here" about the High Level DIner in Edmonton. So - we were in Edmonton for the July 1st long weekend and took our family out to the High Level Diner for dinner. Although it was tasty - just not as good as I had expected. We had 2... more
The High Level has been around for 30 years and all this time it has consistently provided healthy meals for families and groups of friends. Normally it does not take reservations,...

Cooked to perfection and real hollandaise. Delicious!! Despite a line up on a Sunday, we were quickly seated. Service was good. Highly recommend this Diner.
They do the best healthy and hearty breakfasts and brunches here! Day 1 of our Edmonton visit I had eggs benny and a peach juice spritzer. The eggs came with real hollandaise, toothsome multigrain toast and hashbrowns with a spicy homemade ketchup. Spritzer wasn’t too sweet. None of their food is overly sweet or salty which is much appreciated. Day... more
Had lunch with a friend at this restaurant and the turkey burger was delicious! I hear the other items on the menu are very good aswell.
Parking is the only obstacle here but people who want to eat here will find a way. I will definitely go again!
This place is a gem. We saw it on You Gotta Eat Here and put it on our list of places to eat on our trip. They did not disappoint. The food was great! There was a bit of a line up but it was definitely worth the wait.
Like many others, we found our way here because the restaurant next door--Sugar Bowl- had a 45 minute wait for dinner.
Well, I cannot tell you how many times throughout the evening (and since) we have all remarked how lucky we were that Sugar Bowl was so full! We really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service. Would definitely...

Avoid the "Montreal smoked meat." It's nothing like the real thing. They probably sell some decent food, but it's generally overpriced. They have a great rep in Edmonton, so maybe that's made them complacent.
The menu has enough variety to make you want to return. Food and service are excellent. Parking can be a bit of a problem though.
Great food and has Gluten-free menu. was featured in "you gotta eat here". A hidden gem in Edmonton. Wife's husband is my wife's personal trainer!
We were in the area because we were originally planning to go The Sugar Bowl, another restaurant on the same block. However it was extremely busy. So we ended up going here instead. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed and the food was amazing!!! The portions were rather large but manageable. The turkey soup I had was excellent and the... more
We stopped here for a late night supper with teens, etc. The food was fresh and more interesting than typical diner food--I had two choices of meals featuring spinach! This is our favorite breakfast, or brunch place in Edmonton. The service is always great, and the food is always as it should be.
I've eaten here three times in the last week. My highest recommendation right now is the black bean chili, topped with melted cheese and chaperoned with cornbread. Good choices for table wines. Moosewood-style food. Has a menu that hasn't changed for years, maybe decades, but also more adventurous daily specials. Packed for breakie on Saturday mornings. I see lines as... more
Not my favourite selection, very few options, especially for picky eaters. Ridiculously long wait on a week day night, would have gone almost anywhere else on Whyte Ave after that meal. The redeeming qualities of this restaurant are the gluten free options, the hormone free/free range meats, if this is important to you, you might like this restaurant. Otherwise I... more
I ate here years ago with a vegetarian friend - this was one of her favourite places to eat when she lived in Edmonton - and just came back for the second time for lunch. We have been enjoying the breakfast and atmosphere at the High Level Diner for years now. It is one of our favourite family outings. The food is always good - both in quality and in flavour. If you like good food, and a warm pleasant dining experience, I would suggest the High Level Diner. We often enjoy the Mediterannean Platter topped off with a home made dessert. Good food for your dollar, we ate in and it was a treat
Great vegetarian dishes and a unique cozy feel. Right in Old Strathcona near the University. The vegi-burger and hummus are amazing.
High Level Diner serves healthy, hearty food from different parts of the world. I ordered a shrimp special that turned out to be too spicy for my tastes even though our waiter said it wasn't spicy, at least as far as he was concerned. I resolved that by exchanging my dish with another selection with a friend at our table. The large portion of french fries were hot, not greasy.
Very good deal for your money. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the meal was served hot, not warm, but hot. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a decent meal at an affordabe price.
Excellent food, great atmosphere, value for money and an all around great tasting meal. Highlevel Diner is on my favorites list, try it out!
I love this restaurant! I used to frequent the HLD when I lived in Edmonton. I moved away
I love this restaurant!
I used to frequent the HLD when I lived in Edmonton. I moved away
in 1997, but when I go back there they still remember me.
The service is fabulous, and the food is, too.
Vegetarians have as much to choose from as carnivores.
My favourites are the spanikopita and the black bean chili.
Named for its location at the foot of the High Level Bridge, this cozy restaurant emphasizes hearty, healthy international fare. Their cinnamon buns are a must-try! Patio dining in the summer.
You can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner in this cozy eatery located at the south end of the High Level Bridge, just a few blocks from the university campus. A casual, relaxed atmosphere, funky murals on the walls, and a great selection of healthy, tasty food have made this one of Edmonton's busiest restaurants. International favorites include souvlaki, tabbouleh, quesadillas and jambalaya. If... more
