I've stayed here quite a few times over the years, and I generally have a good experience. It is a hostel, and in the dorm rooms, privacy is at a premium. But, I have found that people are usually pretty respectful, if only because they are in the same boat. If privacy is an issue for you then there are private rooms available. There was a flood in Calgary a few years ago so they had to... more
After traveling Canada for more than 3 weeks and over 9,000 KM we were looking forward to fell asleep in cozy bed and not the car-seat or a tent. This hostel is clean, welcoming and it's close to the city center (max 5 min walk the C-Train or 10 min walking distance to the center itself). In fact its an easy walk to central... more

It has many of the usual amenities of HI Hostels, a games room, computers to use (and free wireless internet), a TV room and a fully-equipped kitchen.
My experience there wasn't great though. The dorm rooms have 6 beds in them which makes for a very cramped atmosphere even by hostel...

Although it's situated in about the worst place in town (east of Centre Street along the river), the HI downtown isn't all that bad. For affordable dorm-style accommodations and safety so long as you're not wondering the streets, the HI provides its clients with value. Mostly, you'll only see Australian snowboarders and other foreigners looking to save a buck staying here.
But every now and...
