Do not build with hawksview

Do yourself a favour and go with another builder. We recently built with Hawksview and the whole process was excruciating. Deceptive pricing, incompetent design staff, no regard for customer service and no communication between design staff and the construction team. This company is terrible from the top down. After this experience I have vowed to post something on every review site. FOR YOUR OWN SANITY DO NOT BUILD WITH HAWKSVIEW

New Home Wanted

I have been far and wide looking for a Builder that satisfied what I wanted to have in a home. I found that in my discussions with Hawksview Homes, they have been friendly, accomodating and most of all they have had a genuine interest in what makes my home important to me. I have found that their standards are better than the run of the mill Builders out there. Although I have been considering building for a while now, their new promotion is something I can take advantage of - just because I started looking before the promotion did not hinder me in taking advantage of it promotion - which is currently $25,000.00 in upgrades. That makes all of my kitchen, my bathrooms and my master walk in closet a lot nicer now!

Our Experience

First off, if you google’d reviews for Hawksview homes you probably ended up here. When starting the process of purchasing a new build we did the same research of the builder. The first few reviews here seem to be spat not relating to the homes at all. So I would urge you to ignore it.

We started the process in the spring of 2011 and took possession in fall 2011. Overall our experience with Hawksview has been excellent. Hawksview staff handled the process with professionalism at every stage. Yes every house build does have its ups and downs but that should be expected - endless decisions, negotiations on upgrades, etc, etc. You also need to do your own homework to compare what other builders offer and make a decision for yourself.

Highlights of our experience:

- Extremely flexible with plan design and changes - sky's the limit if you are willing to pay for it.
- Homes well constructed, backed, and issues reconciled quickly - we've only had superficial issues to date.
- Tracey (Hawksview’s selection designer) is AMAZING.
- Delivery was made on time
- Small builder, more attention spent on quality.

Improvements for Hawksview:

- Design control doesn't seem to be enforced at all. They seem to build the same models side by side using almost identical colour selections. Other builders seem to handle this better, provide better diversity.
- Price tag on premium lots is insane.

Recommendations:

- Recognize you can get some upgrades cheaper outside of the builder
- If building the same model as your neighbours, beaware your windows may line up - howdy neighbour!

Wow.

When one of the agents, aka smokey the bear, said I would be over 650k for my home by now (Spring '11). I paid 500 for on Valebrook court. Little did she disclose, all my neighbours are worth half of what I am.
Pretty sure I've appreciated less than the Aberdeen townhomes across the street.

Airport is ridiculous.

Next time I will listen to my father, you pay for the area, and you appreciate with the area.

Smokey is definitely not just smoking cigarettes.

Quality build

Hawksview was very flexible in allowing us to bring our own plan for a "custom home" that we designed...

They built us an amazing home and used the best Trades to do it! The Site Super is extremely fussy and makes sure that everything is completed with the best quality and there is no cutting corners.

They have a Professional Designer that works with you every step of the way. Tracy was fantastic and she takes the worry away from making a bad choice when it comes to colour selection, cabinets, flooring etc.

At the end of the day, we got an exceptional quality home in a neighbourhood that we love.

We did look at other Builders and areas, we felt that "Riverwood" had everything we wanted in a Community. (Great Schools, shopping, friendly, upbeat, young neighbourhood)

Our Custom Home

I would have to say that the two complaining below probably brought their own issues to the table well before dealing with the builder.

Anyone that has ever built a custom home will know that there are ups and downs as well as challenges on both sides to meet demands and needs. Give and take with some flexibility is the key.

We are very happy with the quality of our Hawksview home, it is a solid structure and there were very few minor issues considering the scope of what we changed and modified. I would agree that the models tend to look similar, but for those with some degree of imagination... you can easily take this and customize it at a very reasonable cost. Our home is one of those, and truly one of a kind.

The company stands behind its work and has been there for us. I would have no problem recommending them

Hawksview homes - aka Eastforest homes in disguise

We purchased a Hawksview home after getting caught up in a sales pitch on their commitment to quality

To make this brief, Hawksview has brought so many of the problems that plagued Eastforest homes over to Hawksview homes, the homes are subpar, they are unwilling to make changes to accommodate your needs, and finally we had many finishing issues.

The builder would not make things right. Instead he decided to buy back our home.
Ultimately, the aftermath was good and a wakeup call. We realized the exterior of all these homes look very similar and rather atrocious with the vertical siding, even one buyer paid extra for stucco, yuk!
We ended up moving to a nearby area using the money from Hawksview homes buyback and are so very glad we did.
We also feel that this area will have some issues with the 240,000 town homes becoming slapped up by the dozen a stones-throw away. Many are rentals units.
Also, the view of Breslau and the factories is an eye sore.

Terrible experience.

In 2009 we put a deposit on a lot that was a good size and carried a high premium. We were told to firm up by Dec. 2009 to avoid HST. As we were going to firm up we were told our reserved price and plan had increased by $40,000 but they would only charge us $20,000 as a favour.
We instantly asked for our money back, which they did eventually return.
I found the sales representatives very aggressive and non-reasonable when it came to upgrades. As with the other poster’s comments, anytime you asked for a change (although their mission statement says they pride themselves with change) they were like 'oh that will be this amount', which was exorbitant. They made layout choosing and selection extremely difficult. The model homes have been there since mid 2008, scary.
We were told to convert the exterior to brick it would cost 40,000. We found that the homes, especially with vertical siding - look like barns.
At the end we were over 500,000 into this home (prior to the surprise 20k hike) and we realized, that we can go build in Edgewater for less and be in a superior area.
The owner of Hawksview homes is from Eastforest homes, which in itself speaks horrible things.
When quizzing the agents on what type of insulation values were used in the walls and under pad for the carpet they responded by saying "It's good". Again, I asked what the R-Value is and never did get an answer.
Buyers beware.
