One of our favourite Indian restaurants, lunch food, and downtown eating spots.
The buffet is great (really!)
Have eaten there several times now. Best time to go is probably on a Friday or Saturday evening when (oddly enough) there aren't a ton of people, but they have some live music being played. And the music is not SO LOUD (like waaay too many other places), that you have to strain to hear the person next to you.... more
Nice atmosphere, great food. Good value. The service is ok, they could improve on the service with a smile. I would go for the food and the price.
Food was wonderfully hot and fresh unlike most buffets. The plates are warmed under a heat lamp so your food is not going on to a cold plate.
Service was excellent and the lady playing the sitar made it a wonderful night in India.
Incredible value at $24.95 per person. Will definitely return on my next foray into Edmonton.
I am a Brit living in Canada and I have struggled for the last 7 years to find an Indian restaurant that tastes and good as the ones in the UK. Haweli was a real surprise. We took a day trip to Edmonton from Calgary for a show at the Expo and decided to eat before the drive home. I... more
The food was certainly good and I was definitely a fan of the décor and the atmosphere of the restaurant. My problem with Haweli though has to do with the name. It should really just be called "New Asian Village". To say that this restaurant is similar to a New Asian Village would come as no surprise, but they don't... more
Love this restaurant I visit Edmonton 4 times a year on business and always eat here during my visits
I am from the uk and this indian food is more what I am used to .
Prefer to visit when buffet meal is not available
very good menu. lots of choice. very authentic. service was great. helped us make choices that would go well together. excellent food!
I just got back from Haweli. I had dined there a couple of time about five years ago, and it was very good then - during my absence they have even kicked it up a notch.
I'm on my own tonight, and I wanted a meat dish and a vegetable. With no one to share it with, i was afraid...

Most buffets I go to seem quite bland, but not this one... Just the right amount of spice, very good service.
This restaurant has been improving physically since it opened over 6 years ago . We have been here numerous times after trying the competition on occasion. The food is easily the best East Indian in the city . The Dal Makhani is a classic as are a number of the tandoori dishes . Good service and a touch of elegance... more
We go to Haweli a couple of times a month and absolutely love the food. The buffet on Sunday is very reasonably priced and great value for the price. The buffet isn't as big as it's sister company, New Asian Village, but has all the favourites such as Butter Chicken, Korma Beef,Tandori Chicken, Saffron Rice, Samosa, salad bar, etc. Their... more
There are so many places that are better and less expensive. If you're downtown, you have limited choices anyway, but you can pay less for the same or better food in Mill Woods.
I make it a point to go here every time I am in Edmonton. Yes, it's me flying solo with my book but who cares. The Kingfisher is cold, the tikka is tasty and naan is stellar. Don't be fooled if it is quiet, the food is great!
I was taken to Haweli by a coworker for lunch. It was very clean, well priced, excellent selection - small selection but very fresh and delicious!
Wanted to try this restaurant and found it to be very expensive for food that was just par. Did like the specialty bread. Will not go back.
This review is long overdue. I have been going to Haweli's since it opened, mainly for lunch but have gone for a couple of suppers. Lunch is the best. Come 10 minutes before noon and beat the rush. The water goblets are large and always filled with iced water so little need for a coke or other drink. The L... more
I love butter chicken....actually...I adore butter chicken! I have been deceived in many restaurants in my last tries but I found this one from the hotel guide and I was not dissapointed! I of course had the butter chicken plus basmati rice and Naan bread....Excellent!
The best butter chicken in the City of Edmonton is found at Haweli on 103rd Street.
The weekday lunch buffet is outstanding. For an Indian food buffet expert like myself (only partially kidding as I go a lot more than I should) I am continually impressed by the many different vegetarian and meat dishes available.
For example, the turnip curry...

I recently went to Haweli's with co-workers for the Lunch Buffet.
I am new to Indian Cuisine, and do not care much for spicey food, but this buffet was delicious.
Butter Chicken tasted authentic, more of a creamy sauce with less of a tomato taste/consistency. Lamb was also delicious, rich in sauce and little fat. Naan Bread was good, as...

Went to Haweli in downtown Edmonton for the lunch buffet during a weekday. It was so delicious that I went back for seconds and got a stomach ache! I usually don't eat that much, but I really enjoyed the food (the rice pudding was incredible). The buffet was hot, had a wonderful variety of tasty dishes, and was well worth... more
The food is average, nothing great. The portions are small and pricy. The buffet is limited in choices and the salads and dessert were good.
I always enjoy this restaurant, it has excellent curries, with lots of vegetarian options. My only concern was very slow service after the meal was done, but perhaps our server thought we were engaged in conversation.
The food is decent, but the waiters can be a little pushy. We just about walked out after the third time telling our waiter that we did NOT want the $90. bottle of wine he was trying to force on us. The dishes that you order are fairly small and pricey.
Atmosphere is just as great as the food. Service is slow, but you're in such beautiful surroundings, you just don't care!
Highly recommend.
Best indian food in Edmonton, hands down. Staff is great.
Downtown location is very busy at the lunch hour, but worth getting there early. Great indian food.
We've gone here a number of times and have always enjoyed the food, service and ambiance.
On our last visit we were pleasantly surprised to find they've added dessert naan. It was a unique and delicious treat; although we hardly had room for it after the wonderful meal.
I understand the New Asian Village has bought Haweli. This used to be my favorite Indian restaurant downtown. Noticed the change in the quality of the food immediately. New Asian has always put too much salt in their food and the nan is the worst example of nan in the city. On the day I was there instead of lentils,... more
Looking for outside, it did not seem like a big place. It is very nice from inside, good ambiance. I had only few items but I was happy with the food. I asked for Indian hot and it was spiced correctly. Good quantity and good service.
Dined here for dinner on a Thursday night…this restaurant has a dinner buffet which starts at 6pm. We were going to try it but once we looked to see what they had to offer, noted it was very small and the selection not that great. So we ordered off the menu instead. Portions are VERY small. For I think $16,... more
If you're looking for great Indian food (or any food for that matter) that won't cost you a fortune, this is the place. I've been coming here for almost six years and have never missed once. The food is of high quality, ample portions, and priced right. You can feed four for under $100, and you'll be taking food home... more
My husband and I love this restaurant so much; we actually schedule our flights to stop overnight in Edmonton when we travel, so we can eat dinner at Haweli !
It is by FAR the best Indian food restaurant in Canada (and we've been to Vancouver, Toronto...).
The food is incredible! The atmosphere is romantic, the servers are friendly, and...

Great Food, very friendly, higher value
Decent Indian food. Lunch buffet is a little too tame for me, but is reasonably priced.
Based on numerous visits over 3 years, the food has been consistently cooked to perfection (the naan bread is to die for) and the service is with a doubt, without exception always impeccable. They are professional, attentive, knowledgeable (not only about the food and wines but the culture in general). We cannot say enough about this restaurant that continues to... more
They have also opened a location in St. Albert. It is beautiful & the service is wonderful. Going to try their buffet tomorrow. I'm sure it won't disappoint!!
3rd best for East Indian in town, price to quality ratio isn't disapointing, but not the best
Excellent Asian cuisine; the lunch buffet is wonderful and the fresh naan bountiful.
best indian, one in st. albert also
This place was recommened to me by the hotel as I was stopping off in Edmonton for the day. It just so happened that I was the only customer at the time and the waiter forgot that I was there - LOL I had to get up and asked if I could order now. However the service was non-stop thereafter... more
The lunch buffet is okay, but i've had better rice pudding elsewhere. Stay away from the mango dessert - yuck
over rated, nice place, food ok. over priced
not bad. Needs an update, servers need some personality! Food was good though. Fresh naan to your table, can't go wrong with that!
The first Indian restaurant I tried in Edmonton. Not quite as good as New Asian Village, or India Grill, though definitely cheaper, still one of my faves!!
This was my first time trying Indian food, and I found everything to be delicious. Some items were very spicy, but the menu selection is huge so ask the waiter to recommend something not too spicy if you aren't used to it. My favorite was some sort of a compressed cottage cheese in a kind of squash-based sauce, that came with the Deluxe Combo that I ordered (the other choice in the combo was... more
Haweli Restaurant serves mouth watering Indian cuisine that satiates the stomach, but it will have you coming back time and again! The meats served here are lamb, goat and chicken. Try the Butter Chicken, Kebabs and Rotis - they are specialties here and often attract tourists and locals. No Indian meal is complete without dessert, so head for the dessert bar and dig into the authentically... more
Ask local residents, and most of them will opine that Haweli is Edmonton's best Indian restaurant. If you're not familiar with the cuisine, plan to visit here for the buffet lunch, when you'll find a huge variety of traditional dishes and you can sample to your heart's content. Consistent favorites are the lamb rogan josh, aloo gobi, and butter chicken; there are also plenty of choices for... more
