I really, really love this place. While not cheap the food is consistently good and is a must anytime I'm in Ottawa. I wouldn't call this place the *best* vegetarian spot in Ottawa. It's good, but not the best. They have a good variety of hot and cold entrees, their soups are yum. But their desserts are subpar. Apple skins need to be peeled prior to pie incorporation. This is a key rule of thumb.

Just a confirming note from a non-vegetarian. The veg and lasagna was very very good. I was not so wild about the tofu cheesecake, it's just ok. Boy was it crowded. We had to wait in a long, slow line to get to the food. Inconvenient but not a killer. The cafeteria style lets you take a small amount of the many dishes. After a half hour the crowds thinned out. I LOVE Green Door! Their dishes are varied, interesting and complex. They are delicious and organic and they source as many of their products locally as they can. I am very happy they've recently opened their own grocery store. I am up in Canada visiting my Brother and Sister in law for the weekend, We went to Ottowa for the day and for dinner we went to "the green door".
It was set up deli/buffet style and you grab a plate and put what you would like on it. They had so many different options and everything I tried I liked very much!

I was first went to the Green Door this summer, 2005 and I loved it. I love vegs., but never really had organic food before. The food can be expensive, but I guess you get what you pay for. Legendary desserts

The Green Door has been remodelled, and the atmosphere is now more homey (as opposed to "stark", as yahoo's reviewer suggests). It has a great selection of veggie and vegan foods, salads, a custom juice bar, and a truly extraordinary array of healthy desserts. Plus, since it's all buffet style, you can sample a wide variety of items in exactly the quantity you want, with no waiting.

Great place for the vegetarians in this city, good place to meet friends and/or just to have a great cup of coffee.
