"If you're into" watching airplanes take off and land, this "airy", "upscale" Pacific Northwester in the Fairmont "overlooks the tarmac" at Richmond's Vancouver International Airport, and its "terrific" staff delivers "surprisingly good" plates; those who find the food "expensive" may still find courage in a "strong" drink at the bar before they "tackle the security line-up."
Executive chef Geoff Carkner has taken this light-flooded in-terminal restaurant, bar, and lounge (with comfy settees and sofas) to an even higher plane-many prefer it to the airlines' first-class lounges for its attentively executed food and creative cocktails. A monthly fresh sheet reflects seasons, but the herb marinated grilled prawn cocktail with Pemberton vodka gazpacho gelee ($18.50) and... more
An airy pocket of luxurious civility in the hurricane of air travel, Globe's massive windows onto the tarmac combined with textbook people watching perfectly soothe both amped and jet lagged spirits. Double-sided fireplaces divide Jetside bar and chic dining room, but dress throughout is tidy casual, serving all meals (or nibbly tapas, if your appetite got delayed). Classic, largely localtarian... more
Usually stay at hotel before flying home. This time we decided to have dinner at the GLobe@YVR. Great dinner! Even though it is a fine dining restaurant the atmosphere was casual and easy going. Service was excellent. Had the 24 Hour Braised Short Ribs - best I've had in ages. My husband had the Fruit De Mer Risotto. He loved... more
We booked reservations for the Afternoon tea. We were seated promptly and had a nice table by the window where we could watch the planes take off. We were told we couldn't come 30 minutes earlier because they were booked but there were very few customers in the restaurant when we arrived.
It took awhile to get served, but someone...

We spent the night at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport after departing our cruise ship so we decided to do dinner at the Globe@YVR. At first, we didn't know if we would be able to dine there, as we didn't want to don a dress and suit for dinner. To our surprise, the dress code is casual, yet nice and the... more
Airport hotel but well above many city dining spots...food and service was excellent. Canadian wine prices are high but good quality.
Just couldn't do the food court or even one of the sit down restaurants for dinner at YVR, they really are bad, especially Hanami (before security International terminal). The Globe is beautiful, amazing view of the North Shore mountains, nice decor and atmosphere (some people find it cold, but I think it's fine).
The menu is quite limited, but everything...

My husband & I really enjoyed our first visit to this restaurant last month when staying at the Fairmont before our holidays! What a great way to start by enjoying a fantastic meal together in a lovely setting!
The food was amazing & the service was incredible...very intentive but not in the way of us enjoying a romantic evening! We...

I usually give Globe one more star but this time even thought he food and service are excellent and the ambiance is perfect for preflight I was sad to see the Lifestyles menu is gone. There were innovative from organic, to vegan to raw that tempted every palate.
Now even though the food is excellent is is more mainstream and...

Going for high tea is my very favorite thing to do...and I go often. I was excited to go to the Fairmont Airport for the first time a week ago.
First, the ambience...just a cookie cutter hotel dining room...nothing warm or intimate about it for spending a couple of hours chatting with a friend over a cup of T.
Second,...

We stayed one night at the Fairmont and were appreciative of an onsite dining room for our breakfast before our flight home. While the buffet was great we recommend the al a carte menu. We find the service is better when you order from the menu. I also prefer to get hot coffee served to me rather than having to... more
Good food and drinks and service. Nice environment and relaxing place to unwind before or after a flight. Costly though $$$. You will pay for the positives of this location. Only one location for families in the lounge.
Had lunch at the Globe and enjoyed it immensely. Had a special bacon and chorizo soup which was great and very tasty. For my lunch course I had the sable with lentils and it was cooked perfectly and tasted magnificent. Great local fare with a gourmet flair. I was with a group and the service was outstanding with the server... more
The breakfast buffet at the Globe is expensive but it is awesome. The choice of food was endless and the quality was top notch. It surpassed any breakfast buffet we had during our two-week trip to Paris and Nice, France, and it was cheaper too! Be sure to come with a big appetite, you will not be disappointed.
I usually enjoy Globe@YVR and have been an annual guest with a close friend who travels in from overseas over the past five years. Their breakfast buffet is very good as is their lunch menu. However I found the afternoon tea to be just a bit above average for the high price. The sandwiches are very tasty but ridiculously tiny.... more
There was a weird smell in the restaurant, not sure if it came from sours or the tarmac.
We had a table with a great view of arrivals and departure.
The service was good, food was good too. It was an easy choice between food court and hotel food.
Since it was already late and we had an early flight,...

Food at airports, and airport hotels, tend to be especially pricey. However, we had already returned our car before checking into the Fairmont, and did not feel like taking the train to downtown. Luckily my son and I were able to get a table at Globe.
My 9 year old son eschewed the children's menu for the steak, and surprised...

This is a top level restaurant. The service was exactly what you would expect for a Fairmont. The meal was very good and the bar menu superb.
Excellent.
I ate lunch there one day during my week long stay and ordered the soup of the day. The Tomato soup had one cherry tomato in it and was the most bland soup I have ever eaten. Definitely not worth the $10.50 + Tax & gratuity. Many of my colleagues spoke of similar experiences for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The... more
Not sure if Globe is the name of the lounge as well as the restaurant but both are great. Not cheap by any means but sofas are comfy, menu is interesting and the waiters being out the bottle of wine to show you then pour a VERY generous portion when you order wine by the glass. Classy and done right.... more
We will definitely dine here again. The service and the food were top quality. The servers all seem to pay special attention to their guests which is a pleasant touch.
Our server was meticulous and the food was creatively prepared and presented. A somewhat overpriced wine list but given the location (inside the actual airport complex), reasonable when compared to other lesser establishments in similar locations.
Our server was very informative on wine choices. Food was served
hot, great flavours and presentation. Will look forward to a return visit.
I had been for afternoon tea at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver on many occasions so I thought I would give the airport location a try as it is closer to home and apparently the same hotel chain. I have also had tea in many hotels all over the world and this was by far the worst. The service from start... more
We spent a night at the Fairmont Airport in order to facilitate an early flight out the following morning. So we decided to make an evening out of it and try dinner at Globe@YVR. We were very impressed with the outcome and enjoyed the evening - it was a very nice start to our vacation abroad.

My mother gave my sister and I a LivingSocial coupon for Christmas for Afternoon Tea for Two at the Fairmont at the Vancouver Airport. Over the years I've had my share of airport hotels and their "restaurants" but on a layover from London I met up with some friends for dinner here on New Year's Day.
Based on my previous experience of restaurants in on-airport hotel locations, and indeed the hotel itself, I was ready for mediocrity, but almost as soon as we were...

Xmas Eve: We have just come from "dining" at Globe@YVR. Despite the catchy, hip name and the Fairmont brand designation, this place is a major disappointment. The only option tonight was the buffet for $69 plus tax and tip per person. When we arrived, most of the food was half-eaten and unappealing. The "artisan" (artisan??? it was all from Safeway,... more
beautiful restaurant, excellent service. the food was delicious but very pricey. good option if you want a great, healthy meal and don't want to travel far.
If not for a groupon deal for 2 for 1, must admit I would not have come here of all places for High Tea! But parking was included so too tempting to pass up. Really nice high quality pastry and mini sandwich items! The sones were hot and excellent with real clotted cream and decent strawberry jam! Savory little sandwiches... more
Enjoyed a lunch with colleagues at the globe. The service was excellent, and the food delicious. Best of all in my opinion was the view of the planes at the departure gates.
We had a Livingsocial voucher for a set course dinner and we were not sure what to expect but we were amazingly suprised. We were seated at a table in a great window location where we were able to see the planes land and also have a view of the mountains as the sun set.
Our first course was a...

The BEST seafood chowder ever! (and I've tried quite a few ...) Yummy bread - very fresh and warm. Healthy and tasty quinoa salad with roasted chicken breast; very generous portion. Good burger, and the kids' pasta dish was a big hit too. Would go to YVR just to eat there!
If you love fine dining and excellent service try a meal at one of my favourite
places at YVR.
Fine West Coast Cuisine by an excellent Chef.
Beautiful presentation.
Sablefish and Salmon is so delicious!
All is first class.

The ambiance is airport - overlooking the runways, comfortable and warm. Menu choices are extensive and the service superlative.
My afternoon tea experience with the Globe@YVR was disappointing.
MAKING THE RESERVATION:
First of all, I had some problems making the reservation for the afternoon tea. When I called their restaurant's number, I was redirected to the main Fairmont YVR switchboard. The switchboard girl told me she could make the reservation for me. I told her I wanted a 4...

If you want to sit down and have a quickly served, high quality meal before catching a fight this is your best option.
Pricey.
Great attentive Fairmont service from Brittany (hostess) and (Melissa) the server. Great table with spectacular view of runway 26-Right and the International Terminal Extremely pricey wine list, with a higher than average retail to restaurant price spread, and very disappointed that the reds are not chilled to a cellar temperature, for both the price paid, and the damage the heat... more
For a 'captive market' i thought the prices were fair. The food was also excellent and the service faultless.
The food at the Globe is always delicious. The serving sizes are not large, so no hungry man dinners offered here. However, if you can indulge in every course, you will experience a true culinary delight. The food is a work of art on your plate and palate. I make a point of having a glass of the Blasted Church... more
If you're looking for a classy meal at YVR airport, this is really the only place, and while it's not cheap ($12 for a salad, $28+ for main course, $13 and up for dessert), the quality is high. It is not, however, the place for a quick meal before you dash for the plane.
We made our third visit recently...
