We had a wonderful lunch here as a family. Everything was done perfectly, the service was great and the overall experience was great. The food is interesting and well prepared.
Gio is one of the best restaurants in Halifax. Located in the Prince George Hotel, it is not your typical hotel eatery. The food is inventive, and delicious. Service is outstanding. Definitely a top-notch choice in a city with several excellent options for an upscale dining experience.
I ate there twice during a science meeting. I found the food to be rather imaginative even if the menu was a little small. The food was very well prepared and nicely presented.
It was an anniversary celebration so my wife and I selected one of the most accomplished restaurants in Halifax. We were not disappointed. From the greeting upon entry to the lovely decor and then the sophisticated food presentation, we were wowed. We had the Tasters menu and were served courses of scallops, Arctic char, lamb and an excellent charcuterie with... more
Our family loves this restaurant. The gluten free choices are endless - even desserts! Fine dinning at it's best! Atmosphere is just right... not too fancy and certainly not too casual.
The server was amazing from her knowledge of the menu to her comfort level with us. The food itself was very good and despite a smaller menu it still had enough choices for most people. The menu prices are not cheap but the quality, presentation and portions are worth it.
The actual dining room is nice but I had one...

If you like fine dining with some pleasant surprises (the chef sends over amuse bouches and surprise desserts), this is the place for you. Delicious, though a bit pricey.
Gio has an excellent lunch menu. If you are concerned about the pricing at dinner, I encourage you to try Gio for lunch ... The pricing is very reasonable, the menu changes with the seasons and the choices are diverse and well composed. I hesitate to recommend specific dishes as they do change fairly frequently, but I have never been... more
I think Gio is getting carried away with their rep. The $12 scallop appetizer as 2 scallops. Perfectly done with nice accompanying veggies, but come on, 2 scallops, and small ones at that. My meal was 1/2 a cornish hen, beautifully cooked and plentifully sized. But then the plate was filled with enough black eyed peas (which were excellent as... more
Last month I had the good fortune to be invited out to dinner by an old friend and colleague, and it was to Gio that we went. Simply put: The ambience was fine, the food was excellent and the service was superb.
The seafood chowder was among the best I have ever had anywhere; tasty, rich, satisfying. But be warned:...

We recently enjoyed a special night out with close friends and we were not disappointed! Amazing service and an amazing meal. We were very pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes, all of us left very satisfied.
I always am raving about the Prince George hotel, they really always go one step above in all ways and Gio is no different....

We recently dined at Gio. We’ve been multiple times now for everyday occasions as well as many special occasions including our rehearsal dinner. If we have friends or relatives from out of town, this is one place we take them to. Consistently, this restaurant has exceeded our expectations for a fantastic culinary experience! The atmosphere is warm and inviting which... more
We had a wonderful time. The staff is so professional and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. The food was so delicious and the atmosphere comfortable.
We ate there on a Sunday night when the restaurant was open for hotel guests only. The young lady that was hostess/waitress/bartender did an amazing job on what was a busy night. There was someone on stand by that would come out to assist once in a while when it was hectic to keep things smooth and trouble free. Amazing!
We only had an hour to spare before a fundraiser and made a reservation at Gio. They were fantastic with their quick service and very helpful with the menu as some of us had allergies. They also brought over a Chef's selection of small treats to make the dining experience an experience.
I had the Prime Rib and it was...

Me and my wife had probably the best dining experience at Gio that we ever had, It was very busy but our waitress made us feel like we were the only ones in the room, top notch service and the food was to die for.
Everything we ordered was beautifully plated and tasted like it could have came from any...

The food, what we did get, was very good. However, they get confused if you order various small plates and ask for them as 1st, 2nd, 3rd servings. We did make it to the salad for my wife and I, plus a 1st plate for one brother, but my other brother & sister-in-law waited and waited ... 2 hrs (1... more
We had a really lovely dinner here the evening before our wedding at the Prince George, and the food was just phenomenal. The staff were superbly gracious and the meal itself turned out to be a wonderful sneak peek of what the chefs at Gio can do, as the food for our wedding buffet was absolutely stunning as well. Would... more
When we booked for Halifax' Prince George Hotel the fact that they had a restaurant was ho-hum. Another hotel restaurant! Ugh! Boy, we we wrong! Gio is a world class restaurant that amazed and pleased us not once but twice! We felt happily compelled to return the next evening. We loved the decor of artfully placed colorful glass and ceramics.... more
We had a quick dinner at the bar before a hockey game, and were very pleased. Everything everybody has posted about the bartender is true: he loves his work and is a bit of a showman about it. But more important, he does mix a good drink. The pasta dish was top notch. The chowder was fine. Service was prompt... more
A great place for a relaxing drink in the bar--- a friendly bartender Jordan happy to have a chat & laugh.
Try a meal from the great menu selection .....presentation is very good x & meals tasty.
Prince George is a fabulous place & Gio serves great meals & has nice surroundings.
We stayed at the Prince George and had been out all day and so we wandered down to the bar for a light snack and a drink. The bartender (Jordan) could not have been more welcoming. He made a mean martini for my wife and described the process in detail. Was good entertainment. We had the calamari which was very... more
I went there because it was late on a sunday and all the restaurants were crowded.. As I was staying at Prince George hotel and Gio is located there I thought could be practical take a look at it.
The service was perfect and Terry was adorable with us, making the atmosphere very cozy.

One feels special when you dine at Gio's. The décor is tranquil yet city funky. The booths are plush and inviting and all around you, from the art to the light fixtures, is a lovely sense of refinement.
The staff are professional and their attention to detail shines from start to finish. The menu is creative, fresh and each dish...

Went here for a late drink, tried an old-fashioned and surprised to get this aromatic drink with a beautiful ice cube plunked in the middle. Turns out the barman is out of a movie script -- wannabe author who loves the history and pride of making good drinks.Any place that hires the likes of staff like this is worth a... more
Definitely a five star experience with prices to match. Overall, fantastic food and service with lots of extra amuse-gueules to enjoy. The foie-gras with apple balls was amazing and the octopus appetizer was savoury and filling. Our main courses were the crispy skin salmon, stuffed chicken and pappardelle. Our group thoroughly enjoyed all three. We concluded that the chef was... more
While staying at the Prince George Hotel we tried "Gio's" dinning room. From the moment we walked in we were treated like valued guests. The food was outstanding, Our server "Jessica" was perfect. We left feeling very happy and satisfied.
Interesting cocktail menu. Bitter melon a must! Delicious, different and a refreshing summer drink. Leechi martini was ok.
Always one of my favourite places to enjoy great food and service.
This is a world class dining experience.
Loved this restaurant! Very fancy, not my style at all, but the staff was energetic and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work, and they did not treat us any differently even though we are not fancy people.
The food looked and tasted amazing! Decent prices for the quality of food and service as well!
Stopped in for a pre-dinner drink, and immediately noticed the glorious stained glass windows and sculptures, which are the work of a local artist. The bartender was friendly and knew the area well. Drinks were generous and refilled quickly. A good choice.
I have been dining regularly at Gio for the past year and a half, since moving to the city. This restaurant is a gem not to be overlooked. The menu is creative, contemporary, fresh and tasty. The wine list has something for everyone, with wines by the glass at a reasonable price. The service is impeccable - the staff goes... more
This is a great place to share a very good meal -- with the best service by professional and knowledgeable servers. I went with my family for the first time 3 years ago and had to take my friend back there during this past trip. We enjoyed the ambiance and food perfectly. outstanding combinations of flavours, beautifully prepared menu that articulates the various ingredients. The crabmeat appetizer with crabmeat, taco shell, pesto, lemon/orange plus other flavours was exquisite. The setting and ambiance are business casual, ie not stuffy but gracious.

Went to Gio for a drink last week (best cocktails in the city) and ended up staying for a full dinner. The new menu changes are fantastic and the service was as always, impeccable!
Gio has changed their menu and it is fantastic. A few of the older favorites like the Elk remain but there are some delicious new choices. I had the Beef Carpaccio, the duck and lobster ( a bit of a strange mix) pasta and the olive oil and passion fruit desert. Outstanding.
Gio probably is the best restaurant experience in town. We have eaten at most of the higher end restaurants in Halifax, and none could compare in terms of the quality and presentation of the meal. Without wine you are looking at about $50 per head but this is great value and we were very happy
We were a party of six enjoying my birthday dinner at Gio.
All of the food we had was top notch and so was the service, this place is the best restaurant in Halifax by far!
After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to a great meal, I was disappointed.
I started with a salad that had avocodo in it, sadly the avocodo had rotten spots on it, instead of cutting those out, they simply left it there and served it in my salad, most unappetizing
Due to food allergies I asked for a baked...

We were there one evening and had great service and the next and had terrible - from mostly the same staff.
This is a high end restaurant with good food. But somehow Iam not comfortable with the portion size in Halfax. It is always less for me and especially for the price. The chef is good. I did not get to try the cocktails but I here they are also good. Overall I would go again if it is a business... more
This restaurant is consistently high quality, great service and an array of fine food. Imaginative chefs have made this one of the premier places to eat in Halifax. Located in a very well managed "business class" hotel in the heart of the city.
I have eaten at this restaurant twice in the last 2 months and this review could be copied for the either of the visits. The service was excellent. We brought our own wine to celebrate an event and the waitress opened it and was attentive to filling our glasses throughout the evening.we ate five courses all of which were exceptional.... more
A lot of people avoid Valentine's Day for dining out, because it's a crazy-busy day for restaurants. Nice fine-dining experience, good food, good service.
For a hotel restaurant, I was quite surprised to be honest! The experience was good, nice "amuse boucher" and even a small palate-cleansing sorbet between courses..
The food was quite good... not the best I have ever had, but good. I had the salmon ... it was nice.
You should not be disappointed...

My boyfriend surprised me by taking me to GIO for our anniversary dinner. When he made the reservation, they advised him they would provide us two glasses of champagne and make us feel very special. The menu is extremely varied. Before looking at the menu, I advised the server as to what sort of light meal I was seeking and she immediately made some recommendations for me that were superb. Attentive service, nice wine selection. Fussy palates supported.
Went here for new years eve. Had the foie gras and oysters to start. Seared foiegras was amazing, the tart it was on was a bit hard but tasted great. The terrine was decadent, but served with far too little 'crisps' to spread it on. Oysters were ok, fresh but condiments were unexciting. Had the elk dish as a main,... more
I ate at the bar rather than in the restaurant as there was no one in the restaurant due to weather. I wanted light dishes, so started with the chowder, which was excellent. Reservation necessary as it was very busy, but when we told the waitress we were in a rush the food came out quickly. We recently had a pre-theatre dinner with friends, the first time I have visiting Gio in 2-3 years. It was better than I had experienced prior.
