Excellent rapport qualité-prix. Le seul point négatif : l'unilinguisme anglais.
I like this restaurant, living in the area..The food is really excellent, the service was ok..nothing to complain about..The decor..well nothing to scream to your designer about. All in all? Very highly recommended. Will be going back next week!
Next to Gandhi in Old Montreal I'd say this is the best Indian restaurant in the city and I've been to many. The only thing that really irks me about the restaurant is the location of the women's bathroom and the toilet seat in there. The food is London-style curry and I highly recommend the Korma. The butter chicken wasn't the greatest too orangey. I got sick once from the chicken passanda.... plus
Went there on a Saturday night before it became busy so service was prompt. Staff and owner courteous and when they found out it was ourfist time, included some extra items.
Food was very fresh and authentic. Decor a little tired and dingy.
Every time I visit this Resto I'm always impressed not only by the efficient and timely service but by the variety of choices and the freshness of all of the food. The prices are affordable and I always enjoy the overall experience. And the Naan bread is so amazing!!!
Have eaten here a few times, most recently less than a week ago. The food is excellent and the service good. Sometimes it takes awhile for the food to make it from the kitchen to the table but it's worth the wait.
When we arrived we were greeted and shown to our table. We were given water and crackers to munch on while looking at the menu.
We started with the onion Bhaji.
It was not that hot but was very tasty.
We went with chicken as my wife did not want lamb, which I like.
We had the chicken Rejala, vegetable...

Ganges serves very good quality Indian curries and the like without much pomp and circumstance. I have been there numerous times and while my tastes run to the spicier dishes, I've tasted almost... plus
we really liked the food. tasty and well-prepared, except for the poppadum which were stale. however, the decor is appalling. i felt so uncomfortable i left straight after i ate. huge red drapes over the door to eh kitchen were heavy with dust. it is obvious that a major water leak in the ceiling had been very badly patched years... plus
I love curry and eat it regularly around the world as I travel. Montreal curry restaurants are in general, average at best, and this is definitely one of the best in Montreal. When you ask for spicy it comes spicy and yet the flavors are never lost.
The samosas are always really good, and I highly recommend any of their...

Food was delicious, but it was WAY too expensive. I know Indian food tends to cost more, but usually when you order a meat dish (e.g., butter chicken) it comes with naan or rice. Not here! You're paying extra for naan and/or rice. And of course you have to get the naan...there's so much yummy sauce that you need something... plus
love vindaloo here- hotter than any other places!!
service could be a little faster, but it's ver friendly
Having been away, and friends asking us to go here recently I wanted to share our previous adventure: Let me put it this way: If I want to go to a restaurant and be served OK only diner food in NDG but paying downtown prices, and to further add insult get served by a waiter who obviously should be removed... plus
Have been here several times and will continue going. The food is great, the prices are ok (could be a bit lower, but not too bad), and you just need to be a bit patient with the speed of service.
The interior decor is also very nice, so it makes for a nice sit-in dinner.
Let me be clear. We love this place. So, if I were you, I'd consider this a 4-star review. It's probably not the most eye-opening Indian food you've ever had, but it's pretty consistent, fresh and has some unusual items despite a seemingly usual menu.
When we first started going we went for the food. We found the service a...

We always enjoy returning to Ganges: the food is always freshly prepared to order, always tasty and spiced according to the menu's description and the portions are fair-sized.
The house wine is good and the choice of beers is ample.
I recommend any of the tandoori dishes especially my favourite, the shrimps.
The service is always attentive and never rushed,...

We ordered takeout and then sat at the bar for a 1/2 pint of good British lager and were presented some onion Bhaji to munch on while we waited. The food was excellent (butter chicken, beef vindaloo, dal, pulau rice, papadam and naan, all for $60 including the beer. $ people were well fed and delighted with the quality and price. """Well prepared Indian staples in the West end of the city. Excellent Saag Paneer, and Naan bread. Nothing fancy, but they come through on quality and price."""
Good neighborhood Indian restaurant. Pleasant surroundings and very courteous service. Punjabi standards on the menu but well prepared and tasty.
After reading several reviews here on TA and elsewhere, I decided to pay Ganges a visit, and I have to say the meal I had was one of the best Indian meals I have ever had, including the best nan ever!
The service was pleasant and the gentleman serving me was quite knowledgeable about the menu, and he helped guide...

Ganges has the best and most traditional Indian food in Montreal. Although it is outside of the downtown core, it is worth getting to.
Pros:
- Great, fresh, tasty food
- Traditional food
- Great papadum appetizer, nan bread, and after dinner sliced oranges
- Reasonable prices and good value (especially the sampler combo)
- Fantastic variety of Indian and...

I have been to this restaurant many times. Every visit gives us the opportunitiy to try a new great dish. The meat, fish and sea food are always fresh, tender and full of flavor. The nan bread is my favorit. They serve high quality product well prepared and cooked to perfection. The service is quite ordinary, polite but nothing more.... plus
Food is very good and authentic. Decor is terrible, but may not be noticed in the dimm light. The low of this venue is the service. One may be neglected for long periods of time, despite being a regar. The owner seems not to care about customers despite generous tips. The only reason for going there is the food, which is better than virtually all indian restaiurants in montrel, especially the... plus
Had their sampler meal and it was excellent. The papadum appetizer was addictive and the nan was really tasty. While the decor feels a little tired, the food is very-well prepared and flavored.
excellent neighbourhood indian restaurant - best of about 4 good ones within a 15 minute walk
Favorite Indian place. Food still has the homemade feel and taste. Fresh and flavourful.
A neighborhood standby. Reliable and a bit dull but very good for the area.
Outstanding Indian food: moist Tandoori, succulent butter scallops, okay spinach paneer. Best of all is the background music, always classy and classic Indian selections.
After eating at Ganges all other Indian restaurants seem a disapointment. Every dish I tried at Ganges was exceptionally fresh and bursting with complex flavors. The waiter was friendly and prompt without being overbearing, and the quiet, intimate setting allowed us to eat in privacy. I hope to return soon.
Really good. Fast service and not too pricy. A must go to, decor can use some revamping. Nothing wrong with keeping the look of the culture but with a little more updated style.
Excellent food but odd service.
Great food, TERRIBLE service.
I've just come from my first, and quite possibly my last, dinner at Ganges (6079, Sherbrooke West, corner Hingston). The food was fresh, fragrant, and delicious. FAR overshadowing this was the fact that the service was terrible - we were there for TWO HOURS. I understand that we were there at 7pm on a Friday night, so they were busy, however that is never an...

Excellent curry madras. Well done Indian all around. Really a 2.5 but I rounded up.
On vacation in Montreal and decided to introduce the kids to Indian food. Ganges was a big hit-- we sampled lots of dishes. Particular fave was the cauliflower curry.
shrim pury is haven! tendoori si rightly cooked with side order of cucumber sauce...we forget to look at the decor
Tandooris, curries and masalas, oh my! Set against an elegant backdrop of deep burgundy cloths in a room festooned with paintings of Indian mythological scenes, the dishes are common Indian comfort foods but done with an eye towards using fresh ingredients and a minimum of grease. The rice studded with saffron and cardamom makes a fine counterpoint to the spicy Madras sauce. Wash it all down... plus
