I've heard from numerous friends that the food here is supposed to be fantastic, however, when I went there with some girlfriends we were less than impressed.
The coconut shrimp is totally not worth your time consuming, or the chef's time in attempting to make it.
The one great thing was their sangria pitchers!
Would definitely come back for drinks, but would eat ahead of time.
Bright and lively, and -- for many travelers -- right on the city's most important corner, the Spadina Freehouse combines the best features of a youthful brewpub and a casual but exciting restaurant. Wood-fired pizzas are the choice for light meals, while a selection of salads, stir-fries, steaks, roast chicken, and fish provide options for diners seeking cuisine. One night's special left... more
Overall I'd say the place is 4/5, but the Freehouse burger (beef with churizo) is easily a 5/5. Top 5 burger in my life. I always stop by here when I'm in the area. Also, the pizza is pretty delicious as well.
I came here for a Thursday evening, casual drinks and dinner. As a vegetarian, I was pleasantly surprised with the menu (as compared to some of the other ones I've seen in Saskatoon). There were several vegetarian options, and the occasional vegan or vagan-able dishes. I ordered a spicy noodle bowl with vegetables. Disapointed! Too many noodles, not enough veg, boring sauce. I like going out... more
Arrived just before noon for business related lunch and restaurant was far from full. Waited about 10 minutes for a menu. Our order of two chicken salads did not arrive until 1:10 pm. Did not see our waitress for about 45 minutes from the time we ordered. Had to consider leaving before food arrived. Don't go if you only have... more
Our missions team took one night to treat ourselves with a dinner out. This place accepted reservations for our large group and made sure we were taken care of. Certainly it took a while to get served, but they tried to keep the food coming for each table of 4 so close diners ate together. We dined inside, but outside... more
Three of us had dinner there last week and we were all disappointed with the food. Presentation was great but the steak was chewy, garlic mash disappointing and the halibut overdone.
The bill was deliver and I did not even have a chance to review the charges when the staff wanted payment. I wished the food service was quicker. The...

We visited this restaurant on a Monday evening when things are usually slow. We waited one hour and fifteen minutes after our order for the food. Three tables around us received their order first, even though all three arrived at least fifteen to thirty minutes later than us. When our order came, four of the five dishes were lukewarm, so... more
Rude staff who refused to even help with take out, so if you stay in overbearingly loud music, making conversation impossible, food good but not worth the stay
This is my 3rd time in Saskatoon, but I only get here every 10 years or so. Asked for a restaurant suggestion from the hotel clerk, and this was the first place he mentioned.
The service was prompt, friendly and the food was good.
It was fantastic to be able to sit outside although it would have been nice if...

Excellent service. Good food. Average pricing. We liked the atmosphere and the many choices. It was close to our hotels.
I had just arrived in Saskatoon and was looking for a place for a late lunch. It was a sunny day and I was hoping to sit outside. The Freehouse has a great patio, so in I went. I opted for the soup and salad. It was yummy. I had the mushroom soup and salad with poached pears and blue... more
This restaurant has a very good patio and a pleasing decor inside. The staff are top notch and the food better than average. We two shared the coconut shrimp and a 10" greek pizza and there was more than enough for two - and the prices were good.
Nothing to say stop here it is the best of everything Saskatoon has to offer. It is average with above average prices for food. We won the night out there, but don't think we will return. While we were eating the tables were taken back for the dance floor which made us want to eat and go fast.
Menu was eclectic with fresh ingredients, even in March, and we enjoyed our meal. There is something for everyone. Staff was friendly and experience relaxing. Casual dining, great beer selection, would go again.
Great food if you are going for supper.
Awful experience if you are going for a night out.
Waited in line watching the bouncer allow all of his 'friends' in while the rest of us patiently waited. Not to mention all of the people who decided it was okay to budge the rest of the line. Bouncer was useless in...

Since I work right next to it, I used to frequent the Freehouse a lot. They always had a decent range of foods, and the prices were on the high end of fair (for what you get). In the last months, though, I've been finding the service consistently slow, and the food just isn't worth the inflated cost any longer.... more
it was an ok meal and it was very busy so we were seated near the bathroom and it smelled the entire evening
Our group of 6 decided to visit the Spadina Freehouse for dinner on a Friday evening. We did not call ahead to inquire about reservations however were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to ample seating. The restaurant was busy but not packed, which made for a great social evening. Our group of 6 have all recently relocated to Saskatoon from... more
Nice place! The food is great and the people here are friendly! Live bands on weekends! I had the chicken pizza and the cheese cake!
The only thing I noticed is that the food is a
Little bit over price but cheaper that other places around.
The positives...The staff was very friendly and were very professional,. Our food and drinks were brought to the table very quickly. We had salad and pizza. The salads were delicious and the pizzas were very good. I was the designated driver for our group so did not have to pay for my coffee with dinner. That was nice.
The negatives...The...

I went to the Freehouse and found the service, food and atmosphere consistent. I had the peppercorn steak and mashed potatoes. Both were excellent. The service was great too. I would recommend.
I enjoyed the atmosphere at Spadina Freehouse. Eclectic decor and good food made for a delightful business lunch. The open arrangement made it a little noisy, but it added to the fun atmosphere.
While on holiday in Saskatoon after shopping downtown with my daughter we visited here for a meal. Lots of selection on the menu, and the service was great. The food was freshly prepared--we couldn't have asked for a better experience. My only complaint is that it's too far from home!!!
Was staying at the Sheraton Cavalier next door, but this wonderful restaurant was across the street from the Delta Bessamore Hotel as well, and it delivered on every cylinder! Stopped in first just for a cocktail as we began to wander the downtown along the riverfront, and the service and appetizers were so good we came back for dinner less... more
Great service, solid menu with lots of selection, love the location. Try the mushroom empanadas.
They have a really nice patio, which is a great place for a pint or a meal.
Most places like this have your typical pub grub that mostly includes meat. While this place does have meat it had a wonderful selection of vegetarian options that were creative and very tasty. I'm glad this chef is forward thinking and realizes there is so much more to food the MEAT!
We enjoyed our meal, and the service was good. I get the sense that this may be a local see and be seen place, as there was a wait for those who wanted the patio, and the ladies started showing up in cocktail dresses the longer we were there.
This restaurant right downtown near the Bessborough Hotel has an outside patio which is often booked solid so reservations in the summer are imperative. My partner had the halibut which he said was delicious and I can recommend the popcorn shrimp. The mushroom empatadas were very spicy, not flavourful, and the pastry was heavy. The pizza looked delicious. Interior is... more
The food was decent and the bar features some creative mixed drinks. Has a nice atmosphere to visit. Food servers were quite good but drink servers were not as attentive to our group as they were to others.
So for the good, I had the pulled pork burger and the food was really good. My friend had a steak sandwich was cooked perfectly and was deliciously yummy! Too bad for the service though as it was slow and unattending. We ordered a pitcher of sad Sangria and we were quite disappointed since in an entire pitcher, there was 1 orange, 1 lime and 1 lemon wedge. That was it. We went to pour our own... more
The service was great and the flavours creative and fresh. I especially loved the mango cilantro spring rolls!
We ate here before the Serena Ryder concert in the Bessborough gardens and enjoyed being able to watch the hustle and bustle of downtown and people heading to the concert. The food was very tastey and reasonably priced. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We ate on the patio and it was loud with a DJ playing tunes. We would... more
Great place to drop into after work for drinks and a little pub fare. Reasonably priced and great selection - would visit again.
Excellent beer selection, a diverse menu with vegetarian options. The place was packed yet our server was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend
We ate here last night and other then it was really loud, the food was fantastic, our service was awesome, and the food came fast. Price is decent too!! Will go again.
Food was under cooked but the staff took care of it! They replaced my meal and provided excellent service!
I had eaten here several years ago and enjoyed it but was quite disappointed in the food this time. I ordered a strip loin, which was a little tough and a little undercooked, although the caramelized onions on top were delicious. The potatoes and vegetables were prepared well, however. We ordered their special apple fritters for dessert and these were... more
I went to the Freehouse on March 23 with my husband and son for supper before going out to a small concert. We arrived at 5:30 and ordered within ten minutes of arriving, however, our food didn't arrive until after 6:30 and the concert was at 7. We ate in a rush and the food was not worth the wait.... more
I love the food here. It's a bit different than regular places. Its a very trendy place to go. The only down side, is that some places you sit, you are almost sitting right next to the person at the next table. So not all tables are very private. BUT the food is superb.
Am allergic to mango and majority of the menu selection had mangoes or a mango sauce in it. What I did eat was average in taste and presentation. My friends also found their meals to be average and not worth the price. Staff were friendly but did not come to refill water.
The staff, the atmosphere and most of all the food are all wonderful. The patio is great and the whole place is wondefully clean. Excellent summer option or anytime really.
The lady at our hotel recommended that we walk the three blocks, even with -41 temperature, it was worth the frost bite.
If you like Curry , Kashmiri Chicken isawesome. Would go back again to try other dishes.
The restaurant was lively and had a good vibe in it. I ordered the halibut but was rather dissapointed when I received it. To be fair, the halibut filet itself was tasty; but the sides had zero fat or seasoning. The vegetables appeared to be from a frozen bag and were spongy while the rice was just plain white rice.... more
Food isnt awsome. Really loud in there not just people but the music was so loud i couldnt even have a conversation. Service sucked.
Went herefor dinner with a group of co-workers and tried the bruschetta pizza. It was quite tasty! Everyone enjoyed their dishes. Great place for after work drinks and dinner as well! Super close to Sheraton and Delta hotels. Will be back!
Freehouse is in a great location and also has a patio. As it fills up, it can be very difficult to have a conversation, but the diverse menu also keeps you from wanting to talk. Staff are quick with service and they have a good variety of appetizers, mains, and salads with not your typical fare.
Saskatoon is not really know for daring fare. Here we have a gem. Small enough to be able to pay attention to detail and big enough that you do not need to be "in" on the register of locals to be regarded. This restaurant keeps up to date with the exciting food world out there since it seems most restaurants... more
Compared to the other restaurants here, Spadina Freehouse is a pretty good choice overall. Wide range of food, pretty good selection of drinks, and great location. Flatbread was good, particularly the pulled pork. the wood fired chicken was a little dry for me, but not a deal breaker.
The two star performance is because of the service, not because of the food !!
While admittably I arrived at 9:30PM the restaurant was still providing food service and so I asked my server what would be the best 3 choices on the menu. The result - pizza, chicken tandoori or ribs (described as fall off the bone). I chose...

I have had the same server here a few times, and she is fantastic. Everytime I come back I hope I have her, as she makes sure you have everything you need and genuinely has a great personality. heres hoping the rest of the staff is the same! food is good too!
Friendly staff and great food. Will definitely go back. The chicken was particularly good. Great selection of wines and beer.
A really nice bar right beside the river. Very pleasantly surprised - really good service and the food was really good. The hummus appetizer was good (a little strange, but very good). The black bean salsa was amazing, and the tandoori tenders were yummy. I had the Kashmiri Chicken which was awesome. I really didn't expect that level of quality... more
great service, highly recommend. Had a nice selection of foods for the whole family.
We enjoyed being there, great service, food, and location. We will definetely go there again.
Interesting menu, tasty food. In house dj could have waited until after 7pm to blast the music so loud. Portions for price a little on the small side.
Average food, pub style, live music and excellent service pushed it to 4 stars
I really like the menu here. Like another reviewer mentioned, there is something for everyone. There's wood-fired pizza, curry, salad, sandwiches, pasta, the list goes on. Everything I have had has been good.
It can get really noisy inside the restaurant on a busy night. I think it's just the acoustics of the place. Personally I avoid the place when there is live music, as I usually like to...

I joined some friends here 5/1/09 for dinner and drinks. Rather eclectic menu, something for everybody. But I'm not sure if everybody would like this place.
My soup was a thin, bland, tomato based concoction, bearing little other resemblance to "chili soup" as advertised. Oh well, more wine! I ordered a NY steak med rare.
Meanwhile at the table next to us were a couple of young women talking...

Fun place, great location in the summer with a fantastic patio. Good food selection and good music too.
Ths is one of my favorite places. They have the best pizza and greek salad. I also love the sweet potato fries, and so many other things on the menu. The atmosphere is great, and so is the service. I love to sit out on the patio in the summer, it's a great place to be for lunch or dinner.
Great atmosphere and delicious food. One of my husbands and my favorites.
You'll find a festive atmosphere inside the Spadina Freehouse brewpub, which often runs special events and hosts live music. The interior uniquely displays the work of hometown artists by using interesting wall hangings and one-of-a-kind tabletops designed by local talent. Wood-fired pizzas, salads, stir-fries and chicken are just a taste of what Spadina's offers by the way of food.
