Great Movies & Ice Cream

The Film Buff is great because it carries movies that you cannot find in the big box rental stores.

There are a lot of foreign films, etc.

And... there is an ice cream bar in the store. You get a ton of ice cream for a very very reasonable price.

nice selection of non hollywood type movies

I enjoy the selection that the Film Buff has as it much better than your typical video store.
BTW - the ice cream they sell is great!

Like many others I came here for the ice cream. It's dirt cheap! $3 bucks even (including the tax) for a single scoop in a cup or cone. The scoop is pretty generous too. And it tasted great! They didn't have many options (about 8) but I did love what I got. I forgot the name but it was vanilla mixed with caramel, chocolate and nuts. It is basically a caramel praline.

VIBE
It's a video store. So film buffs. However, they sell ice cream inside. So I want to talk about the ice cream and how much I love that they put vintage movie posters over some of the bins in the ice cream cooler.

I ATE
Espresso ice cream. Though it may not be "authentic" (shut up, ice cream snobs), it's certainly worth the price. We paid $2.38 for a heaping scoop and I got my caffeine fix... more

One of those local joints that make me miss living in this 'hood.

Was reminded of its awesomeness while in the area on the weekend. Stopped in for one of the delicious aforementioned ice cream cones -- these guys give you what amounts to a double scoop at some fancier places. Really tasty flavours at a great price (they didn't have my favourite on hand, watermelon with chocolate cookie pieces,... more

I pass by this place everyday going to and coming from work and I think I might cancel my Zip.ca membership permanently if their movie rental service is even just half as good as their drinks and ice cream.

Their service is friendly, helpful and quick. This is especially important when I'm waiting for the streetcar to come by. I'm really writing this review though because of their fantastic... more

Terrific selection of art movies and documentaries, updated weekly. Fresh and very reasonably priced ice cream (about half the price of some fancier ice cream shops) and very good espresso.

Scott, the owner, writes a 'zine with his reviews, look for it on the counter.

Our whole family loves The Buff! One or another of us is there nearly every day.

An excellent place for a ice cream cone. Delicious, generous, low price. They have their own private brand of ice cream prepared by Maypole Ice Cream in Etobicoke. Brilliantly absurd names for the ice cream like Crunchy Frog for chocolate mint. Yes, I caught the Monty Python reference. Still, though.

Apparently they also make available discs that somehow magically contain movies that can be... more

film buff has another location on the other end of the city at roncesvalles and from what i remember its just as great as this one. if you decide that youd like to focus on the works of one director say, you just have to stroll over to the director section which has well known directors movies all in one spot. or perhaps you enjoy exercising your tongue while you search for flicks. this problem... more
