The food is good, though not outstanding. Well located close to downtown Canmore. We tried the ginger beef - a bit spicy.
Don't waste your money, plates are extremely small for the price, 8" plate of beef and broccoli was 15 bucks and not heaping. We ordered it with fried rice and that didn't even show up until I went and asked for it 30 minutes later. Mean while the server is checking her smart phone with her friends and the manager... more
I don't know if the restaurant changed hands again, but our last visit was disastrous. 2/3 of the restaurant is in darknes for lack of customers, the remaining 1/3 is the hub of take out, with phone ringing pick-up service and cab drivers, sitdown customers are a side issue. The food was not very good and very greasy. The noodle dish... more
I took my family of 6 to this restaurant earlier this week. The food was very slow in coming and the restaurant was not busy. Then some of the dishes arrived but with no rice. I had to get up from the table to ask for the rice (which had been ordered), and it still took some time. The quality... more
As I became lost in Canmore looking for a certain destination, I stumbled upon Famous and I am glad I did! The entire restaurant is very cozy and inviting, with the atmosphere of a mountain home. I arrived before the supper hour, and seated with prompt friendly service. I ordered a dinner plate for one, and an appetizer. When the... more
My husbaand I are both chinese, we are craving for ma-po toufu as we travel near Banff areas. Given we are in canmore we are not sure what to expect. Pleasant surprise! Friendly staff, nice family style cooking, not too salty or westernize. Thanks Famous restaurant, we are happy dinner tonight :)
Both my wife and I were craving Chinese and decided to try this place out. The quality was decent but not the best by far. It'll do when you want that type of food. Service was good.
This restaurant changed hands a few years ago, and it is certainly not the restaurant it once was. The food took a real turn to the worse, in fact, the taste was nowhere near what we expected. I do not recommend this restaurant unless they pull up their socks considerably.
Went there today & order take out dinner for two plus dry ribs. Everything is horrible, NO FLAVOR AT ALL!!! DON't EAT HERE PLS!!!
Of all the many Chinese restaurants my wife and I have dined in, the food we received here was the worst. My almond chicken was a piece of dry baked chicken with a few sliced almonds sprinkled on top and was totally tasteless. My wife's food was little better. Service was acceptable but nothing can gloss over lousy food. I... more
The restaurant advertises schizuan style Chinese cooking, but be aware that it is not authentic. It is glorified Americanized Chinese food. We were not impressed. The service is very, very slow. We waited for our water, for them to come and take our order, and for the food to finally arrive. We do not recommend it.
Egg drop soup tasted like hot water. You could see the egg and some veg's but tasted like hot water.
Combo fried rice - seems like they cook the chicken and shrimp in water with no flavoring.
For what they charge for food why can't they add alittle flavor.
When first walking into the restraunt it appears to be very nice. We ordered 3 different dishes with a avg price of $13. The first dish came and we waited another 15 minutes for the remaining 2. By then the First dish was cold. When I mentioned to the server that it would of been nice to have been served... more
Ordered a takeaway from the famous Chinese on Saturday night, delivery was quick however the food was terrible and very over priced! We ordered for 5 and all of us left the food and put it in the garbage! Very bland and dry. Meat was fat and tasted like dirty oil. The only good thing was the free fortune cookie!!... more
The order was ready very quickly. The food was tasty. We ordered the dinner for 4. It should be called the dinner for 6. I shamelessly ended up having the leftovers for breakfast the next day.
This is a restaurant that we have frequented for many years. Under the previous owner the service could be poor but the food was always good. We could put up with the argumentative owner in order to have decent food in our home town. Unfortunately, the reverse situation is harder to swallow.
We went with a party of five early...

Canmore is a small town and it surprises me to have a Chinese food that is not so Canadian- Chinese food.
The owners gave us the best service we could ask for. The food was quite good for what we ordered.
If I remember correctly, we ordered their fried rice, some spicy tofu with seafood, and pan-fried egg with some...

The food was ok, not great. I think you might need to change the oil, I could taste old oil on everything. Ginger beef was not fresh and again had that horrible old oil taste. I have to say, one of the worst Chinese I have had for a while.
With the new owners, this restaurant turned a leaf. The food is great, the service excellent and the prices are reasonable. The eclectic decor, Chinese/Alpine/Austrian with a touch of South Asian is amusing :-))) Wr go for the food, not the decor :-))
My family came in with all our chaos. My son not only spilled his water but he accidentally broke the glass it was in too. Our server was amazing, made us all feel comfortable and relaxed. He happily helped us choose gluten free dishes for me and lessened the spice in other dishes for the rest of our group. The... more
Some of our dining experience at the "Famous" Chinese Restaurant was positive and some of it not so much. The spring rolls were very good. On the other hand, the BBQ pork fried rice was the poorest quality that I have ever had. This dish had a strange taste and the small amount of pork was diced into tiny cubes... more
"Famous Chinese" dishes up great comfort food. From the moment you are greeted at the door, you know you are going to have a good experience. A small restaurant that pays attention to customers, making them feel ultra welcome. The service is quick and efficient. The food: hot, fresh and tasty. The menu is vast, the prices excellent. The ginger... more
This is just a good old Chinese restaurant! The food is very fresh, the ginger chicken is not hard and over cooked as in many places, and the salt and pepper squid was perfectly cooked. The place definitely needs updating however I have a feeling they mostly get take out. However it's good quality Chinese food. We've been there twice,... more
The food was served nicely hot and there was plenty of good tasting food. Their best product is their friendliness and truly amazing customer service. The owner, a Chinese woman, was present when I attended the restaurant. She made herself available for any questions or comments at any time, she would be checking if everyone was happy with the food... more
The food was excellent! The Rice was so delicate, the sweet and sour so tasty, I have never had a finer Chinese meal in my life..The Owners presented themselves very well and the service was very good. The only thing I found that took away from the experience was their constant taking of orders for delivery or pick-up over the... more
George is a prime example of what a good owner is. The food is pretty good, but the employees will treat you like family which keeps us coming back.
If and when there is an issue with our order, George continually steps up, and even delivers our meals personally!
I recommend this place as a reliable go-to place for Chinese...

Went here on a Sunday night as the flatbread co was too busy
Were seated quickly, service was friendly, prawn crackers and dumplings were good. Ginger beef was not spicy enough and a bit sweet but they did ask us how spicy, chicken and cashews very tasty and egg fried rice (ordered specially) was very nice - 2 mains and...

Ordered three different dishes, but most ingredients are same. Waited for a quite long time (30 minutes) without any services.
Friendly people serving, but we don't go there to make friend, but to have good Chinese cuisine. You will be disappointed with their Chinese cuisines.
We decided to order takeout and when we arrived home, realized that there was a dish missing. When I called the restaurant, George took over and delivered the missing dish to us, no questions asked. Great service! The food was good, great selection - we had noodles, two different rice dishes, chicken dishes and spicy beef. Thanks to George for... more
For a name like Famous that is a lot to live up to. The owners are hands on and it shows, the food very good quality, and some unusual appie's. Solid Chinese with many special items. Worth going.
I usually don't like giving bad reviews but TA has been so helpful to me that I felt the need to write this review to help others.
Four of us came in for dinner on a quiet Sunday night. There weren't that many people when we entered (prob about 3-4 tables occupied with 2-3 people each). Depite this, our food...

We decided to stay in our condo and order Chinese for delivery. The service was speedy and a very friendly person brought the food right up to our unit. However, the food was just average. We ordered a typical selection of ginger beef, noodles, rice, chicken dishes. It was not that flavorful. I would give this place a miss.
It was good as they will do it with no MSG, for me thats a good thing.
Food was average, basic chinese fare. Most disappointing though upon returning to our hotel with our takeout order, found they had forgotten the lemon sauce for the lemon chicken, making it plain, bland chicken instead. Kind of annoying. Make sure to check your order before you leave.
It seems like everything we ordered was just fried and in a sticky sauce. Not very much variety even if you order different things, it all comes out the same!
We went here after we couldn't get in anywhere else on a long weekend. The food was excellent. It did take a while as the restaurant was full. If you are ordering you should order about 1.5 dishes per person as the plates are not that big.
First the good: The restaurant is comfortable, clean and at first glance looks to be a good find for Canmore. We were greeted very warmly and the service was good. I was surprised to see such an extensive menu including several Schezuan specialty dishes such as Hot Pot.
Now the so-so: We ordered the Won Ton soup, Kung Bo chicken,...

My friend’s association organized an out of town ship for seniors on September 18 and I had the honor of being asked to be her tour guide. We were discussing of the type of lunch for the group, at first we thought we didn’t have a choice, and had to go to McDonald, somehow I went to the website and... more
We just visited Canmore and stay there for a few days. Someone recommended it, but When we ate there, we found the food dishes were so small, is it just because we are not local people? and the food just tasted plain. The owner might doesn't know there is internet, so people can comment on their restaurant, he might saved... more
A bit expensive for a Chinese restaurant like this. Is it that Im in Alberta and small town Canmore? Im not sure. But its about 2 dollars more. A dinner for one person is about 2 dollars more than what I can get in Kamloops BC, or Vancouver for htat matter. But the portions are GREAT. No too much so... more
For a town with a lot of burger and fry menus, its nice to have something different. My friend and I went to the Famous Chinese on a Saturday night on a long weekend and actually got a table without a reservation. That being said, I would make a res’ from now on. The food is delicious and the service is friendly and genuine. The new management is striving to change the old reputation of the... more

Went to Famous Chinese Restaurant in Canmore with my family after a hike and food was good, but... No menu for kids, so my 4 year old couldn't eat anything. I guess the thing that really bothered me was the 10% "service charge" we had to pay for no reason. I was going to ask about this, but I decided... more
The only problem with Famous is that after you eat here all other chinese seems like food court quality. Family run, fast and always fresh. This is the only place we eat chinese. Get the ginger beef with rice. YUM
I went there for tasty chinese food and I was not disappointed. My accompanied guest has the glutton problem and anything cooked with wheat flour will kill her, yet this place is one of a few places that serves deep fry with potato starch and rice flour. Ginger beef and salt pepper squid were my top choices and their spicy... more
