If you look closely at my picture, you will see that the pic of Spud was taken from the window of room in the Frontenac. A beautiful hotel in a beautiful end of the city. In the summer of 2008, they had a retired seeing eye dog working in the lobby as a greeter. Great touch! He was a hit.
All around Canada, the Fairmont chain owns many of the most prominent properties, and they're often spectacularly sited. Le Château Frontenac is no exception. A former fort used to defend the city (it looks like a cross between a medieval castle and an 18th-century château), it straddles the topmost part of old town like the lord of the province. Like many of its brethren, it has a huge lobby... more
I took my first winter vacation at this hotel, I truly enjoyed the service and the location of the hotel, as we were able to go for short walks and try delicious food in the little restaurants around the hotel.
Highly recommended!
I stayed with a friend at this hotel for 3 nights. We had booked the room via hotels.com so we were only given a courtyard view. However, the deal we got was incredible and worth missing out on the views. We ate breakfast in the hotel once but usually ate out in the city in some amazing restuarants - Le... more
Staff efficient, discreet and pleasant. Exterior and Entrance lobby full of character; but room was quite indifferent; bathroom stylish and well equipped, but bath was chipped and on the small side - only 5 foot long, is this common in Canada? Worst of all, the bottle of water for tea/coffee making had a price tag of 8 CAD 50! I... more
If you are coming to Quebec City as a tourist, then staying in what some say is the most photographed hotel in the world, is well worth it. There is just something captivating about this hotel and the location it sits upon. The rooms are quaint, bathroom small. The gym is small, but has a great steam room. The service... more
My husband and I had wanted to stay at this world famous hotel since we were in Quebec City with our parents back in the 1950's. Our room was very attractive, well appointed and had a magnificent river view. The bathroom was nicely renovated although a bit small.
However, we were a bit disappointed by the public spaces. In our...

Well worth the stay - a virtual trip back in time. The hotel is absolutely gorgious, nicely appointed, super comfy beds. Centrally located with amazing views of city and the majestic St Lawrence River. One small complaint was that the internet was not included in room or in the Business Center - kind of ridiculous in this day and age.
Growing up in Quebec city, I never thought I would ever stay at this hotel, but thanks to a great deal on Expedia.ca, we had the chance to stay there while visiting friends and family.
I was expecting really old looking rooms and I was nicely surprised by a large, beautiful room with a really nice bathroom. The view is...

Good - amazing access to old Quebec city, gorgeous building, very romantic, clean, safe, don't miss it!
Bad - old rooms are smaller than ones in the new part of the hotel, older rooms do not have king beds in them
Notes - terrible to drive around old Quebec city.. There is a great tour you can take of the...

A superb place! It's THE place to stay in Quebec City, perhaps reflected in the fact that there are tours of the hotel! Service and comforts all first class. Fun to stay in a hotel which has had as guests Churchill, FDR, De Gaulle, and all the staffers attending the wartime summits at the citadel down the road.
We got an elopement package at The Chateau Frontenac and it was perfect! We worked with the hotel on all the little details before we arrived (music selections, flower colors, photographer, paperwork etc.) and on the day of our marriage everything went perfectly. The staff were friendly and the hotel service was great. Our room had an amazing view of... more
We spent 2 nights here during the winter. I made a point of signing up to the presidents club prior to making my reservation and it was well worth it. We were upgraded to the Fairmont Gold rooms on the top floor and we had access to all that it entailed. It was an extravagant weekend. We ate at the Cafe in the hotel one night. Our meal was amazing and the service was polite and very aware of... more
celková atmosféra, super personal, vynikajuca restauracia a bar
This is the best hotel yet known! The standard room is amazing with very excellent amenities and there are two ottomans!!
A conseiller vivement . Cordialement... more
Beautiful hotel to visit whether or not you are staying here. The bar food was good and the staff friendly. Fantastic views.
Took the tour and it was fun. You do get a lot of the history of the place and see a ballroom and one room (a boring, standard room, not one of the awesome suites). Good indoor activity for cold days, but not something I'd recommend otherwise.
Great and beautiful hotel. Extremely impressive and a must see even if you aren't staying there. But when compared to other hotels in the area it doesn't measure up. It's not a good value for your dollar. Great place to stay for a night but find a more equipped and reasonable hotel for the rest of your stay.
Muito Lindo Gorgeous Simply stunning hotel in a fantastic location. Classic style hotel centered in the middle of old Quebec City. I can't wait to stay again.
What a fantastic view for the river... Was able to get an upgrade BC i signed up for the Fairmont club (free wifi too)The bed, toiletries, everything in the room was really nice. Totally recommended!! didn't use the pool bc it was full of kiddies, but looked nice. Able to valet the car and we never used it again because the location is very central walkable to most other areas!
Nice stay, comfy beds, front desk team is Amazing! It's a luxury hotel in a foreign country which means it will lack the little brown nosing details of a luxury US property, but that was quite alright with us. Frankly, that stuff annoys me. I don't need turn down service, I've known how to pull the covers down since I was 2 and my sneakers don't need to be shined before I explore a beautiful... more
As probably the most recognizable landmark in Quebec City, we were quite excited for our stay. We were familiar with the reputation of Fairmont Hotels and the attention to detail is immaculate. As a tip, I recommend signing up for their President's Circle. It's free and at the very least, it gets you free Internet (a $16 value!).We arrived by car and the place was easily to find, just a bit... more
The staff at the hotel were very professional, friendly, and most of all, VERY GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO!!! Definately recommend others to stay at this hotel to get the most out of their experience. Great location with an outstanding view of the city and the lake! The burgers in the hotel restaurant were too good!!!!!!!!
When you think of hotel rooms with jacuzzis in them, you think shady motel on the outskirts of Reno or something, not the super classy Fairmont in historic Quebec. But, no. They have this as a room option. It's tucked away into a corner and makes you feel all majestic. Out of al the places I stayed at in Canada, this hotel had the friendliest, best service with no snobbery about our lack of... more
After having enjoyed pleasant stays in a local auberge and a fairly trendy hotel, we were excited to score a room at the Fairmont. The Chateau Frontenac itself is impressive and quite the site. It's a very old building that clearly has survived countless renovations. You can almost feel the history seeping into you as you walk the halls and sleep. Overall, the place was nice. The staff was... more
The Hotel was just right. Access to everything in Quebec. Service at front counter was excellent , but the valet parking attendant was rude.
quebec city is totally GORGEOUS and this is THE place to stay -- cant get more beautiful than this place
This was a very pleasant experience. The Hotel is under renovations and there was construction under our window. A little bit noisy but being from NY it wasn't to bad.
Le Chateau Frontenac is a remarkable hotel, however, our room was overpriced even at the discount price. Also, Orbitz should let its customers know exactly what kind of room you are getting. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations and approximately 15 of the 618 guest rooms have the view of a construction elevator. We did not realize this until the following morning after we opened the... more
Beautiful! Just beautiful. I didn't find Quebec City to be at all friendly in general. Most of the shop keepers were rude and even the local kids rolled there eyes when my husband and I spoke English. The Fairmont was different. They were friendly. It was a nice break from the nastiness of the rest of the city!
Quebec has so much charm and makes you feel as though you've gone to Europe without even leaving the continent. The cobble stone roads and the Old World architecture just add to all the charm. The locals all speak French and encourage you to join in and practice even if you butcher their language. This is how you know you are not in Paris! The Parisians would never have the patience for... more
Gorgeous hotel. Concierge was very helpful regarding ideas for where to walk, what to see. Pool was beautiful. Restaurants are excellent, but pricey.
During our honeymoon, we toured the Frontenac, drank at the St. Laurent bar, and ate in the dining room and cafe. When you look across the river, or gaze up at the building from the Governor's Terrace, the view is spectacular. The Frontenac is the most beautiful hotel in the world, an offical UNESCO World Heritage Site, and deservedly so. But it's mainly for its awe-inspiring architecture,... more
We were celebrating the end of a job and a beginning of a new life. Our first night we had a fancy dinner in the hotel. My husband had called ahead to ask for a custom-made "death cake" to be served for dessert. It was a black casket with headstone, skull & crossbones, snake and R.I.P. It was served with 4 lit sparklers and a total surprise. Food was delish, room was comfy, view was... more
One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in... and to imagine it only cost me $100 a night. I found it on hotels.com only a little bit above the cheapest hotels in the list. Not sure what the circumstance was... perhaps the April 09 economy was bad or just that time of year is cheaper, but what a great experience. For those expecting a high end experience I believe this place would fit... more
Overall the hotel was a great place to stay to see old Quebec being an institution with lots of tradition. Standard rooms are a bit worn but spacious and comfortable. Also the lobby area and the lower deck somewhat over-commercialized. The lounge was very cozy though.
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Frontenac for 3 nights over xmas. SO ROMANTIC! Le Cochon Dingue (The Crazy Pig in English) was the best breakfast I have EVER had...eggs benedict was fantastic. There are carriage rides around the city, and carolers in the square! The Frontenac was stunning, and decorated beautifully! The room we was ok. I think we both ecpected more for the price that is... more
Extremely friendly staff. Beautifully historic hotel. It is sometimes crowded in the lobby with groups, but the rooms were generally quiet and inviting. Food is very expensive, but there are lots of quaint and less expensive options for dining nearby. The Old City of Quebec is worth seeing, and staying at the Frontenac adds to the historical adventure.
We reserved a family suite and were pleasantly surprised with a decent size room with two beds and an adjoining sitting area with a fold out sofa. Two TVs allowed the kids to have their space. The room was at the corner of the building so a turret separated the two rooms. We checked in early and the front desk clerk went out of her way to find us a room (thanks for that!)The pool is cool. ... more
All three stars are for the location and general beauty of the hotel. The service is terrible. Took hours to have a room available and that was four floors lower than promised due to a lack of rooms ready at 4 pm. Then at check out we had to carry our bags to the storage room as the bell hops were no assistance. Not what you would expect from such an expensive hotel.
Location, views, service combine to make this one of the great Hotels of the world.
beautiful building and great location in the middle of the old city. the standard rooms are nicely decorated but not very big. it is an old property so i expect that. internet is $14/day.the real disappointment about it is that there is hardly any common area to hang out in. there are a ton of small shops in the lobby and in the corridors on the lower level but there are very few couches or... more
This landmark needs no further recommendation. My impression is that, if you go to Quebec (city), you either stay here or wish you did. We loved dining on the terrace overlooking the river (twice). One possible criticism is that one must join the "President's Club" (free) in order to get free internet access; seems a nuisance, but it also included free bike rentals, which we also used,... more

Highly recommended. If you want a memorable stay in Quebec, this is the hotel. Skoosh did a great job finding unbeatable rates and informing the hotel about our special requests at reservation. Perfect.
Room literally next door to two hotel rooms being used for conference with many participants complete with refreshment buffet in hall 8-5 daily our entire stay! We even paid extra for that room with a view!!! Desk staff cordial & helpful. Not sure why there are doormen, we had to walk around them to get in more than once!Biggest complaint-charge for internet-even wireless in the lobby!!!In this... more
I was in Quebec for a conference in the fall and this was one of the recommended properties hosting it. By far, one of the most beautiful and luxurious hotel properties in the city. Prices reflect it - even with our conference discount, the room with taxes came out to about $175 / night. Make sure you sign up for the President's Club before arriving, which lets you check in separately from... more
We stopped in for a drink in the big round room that is a bar. The coffees were good and warm after walking around the city, but even though my husband and I are in our mid-thirties we were like the kids in the room. It just seemed like a place where old fogies go. The room next door where people were eating we even more old people. Just not an atmosphere you are looking for when you go... more
This the only place to stay in Quebec City for me. I agree with Stephanie the Frontenac is the Quebec City skyline.
It is a nice place to come and take photos from outside so you can show your friends you were in Quebec City, but for me it is just a castle-shaped tourist trap. Most of the people who come to Quebec think it is a real French castle..it is not, it was build at the end of the 19th century, it just looks like a castle, but it is not a real one, it is just an old hotel that happens to look French.... more
I stayed here while in Quebec on a business trip - the room was beautiful, the hotel was gorgeous inside and out. Old Quebec is about as picturesque as you can get.Parking was pretty painless - IF you park in the hotel's parking garage, and don't mistakenly park in the spots designated for government officials.I upgraded to a room with a view facing the Old Quebec area with a king size bed. ... more
after walking around the old city, kick up your feet for a glass or cup of tea at the st laurent room at the chateau frontenac. a panoramic view of the river can be enjoyed while lounging on the comfy low seats. aside from the small stain glass ships topping the windows, the room reminded me more of an english feel rather than french. as a few yelpers have relayed to me, it was owned by the... more
This place is amazing. I mean the room could have been bigger but this hotel IS the skyline of QC. Anybody who is anybody that has visited QC has stayed here from presidents to the Queen of friggin England. Beautiful views on top of a hill. I loved it. Left the window open and on Sunday morning was serenaded by a saxophonist playing romance on the "boardwalk" below my window. I asked my bf... more
I've stayed at this property three times in the last five years. Overall fairly consistent, old-world charm, with good staff and service. It is by far the premier property in Quebec. I've stayed in the tower (standard hotel rooms) and in the lower sections of the building facing the river (slightly larger rooms). The accommodations are four-star, clean and new. The rooms are well maintained.... more
Having old fashioned tea at Le Chateau Frontenac with my girl friends has become a yearly tradition for my birthday. In a few months, we will head over to Le Champlain restaurant for some tea and afternoon snacks for the third year in a row (I can't wait). I secretly love to dress up and indulge in fancy things from time to time and this definitely fits the bill. Tea is served in a separate... more
First,Is it funny that a hotel is the most prominent building in the skyline of a historical town?Second,Shouldn't a french-sounding place have O-my-god-I-can't-believe-this-is-for-real desserts? We got the creme brulee and the tarte tatin. While they looked elaborately pretty, they both tasted pretty meh to me. The caramel layer was way too thick and the creme was pasty. The tarte was lacking... more
Hands down...the most impressive property in Quebec. It's like staying at a lovely old castle. The Frontenac is a Fairmont property. So it's worth it to go online and join their Fairmont Club prior to your stay. They will adjust your room to your tastes...ie. down pillows, etc. if you give them a heads up prior to your stay. They have a concierge level that's worth the upgrade dollars. This level... more
We got a nice room with fantastic view of Old Quebec and St. Lawrence River thanks to our lovely concierge, Roger. Merci beaucoup! I give 5 stars for its castle-like architecture, you feel like a V.I.P. by just being there! I was more impressed by its elegant exterior than its interior, I expected more old world grandeur and opulence for the decor and atmosphere, but the inside was just like a... more
We had such a bad experience here that it's doubtful I'll ever stay in a Fairmont again. For starters, our room (which, by the way, could have used a good fresh coat of paint and new carpeting) was in a wing of the hotel where they were doing construction, which normally wouldn't bother me, except for the fact that we habitually got a lovely 6:00 am wakeup call of drilling and sawing. On top of... more
Quebec is like, how do you say, France without the long flight? Actually, it's not. It's more like being in a beautiful, old, intimate city where everyone speaks French, but don't look down their noses at you for being American and actually know how to provide service. We stayed here on our honeymoon. Great hotel, beautiful, apparently one of the most photographed hotels in the world. We had an... more
We spent an anniversary celebration at the Chateau Frontenac. I called ahead of time to make sure that they knew that it was our anniversary and our day was recognized with a note card and a box of chocolates - nice touch. Our room was pleasant, very clean and even offered a river view which we weren't expecting given the reduced room rate. We took the hotel tour and it is well worthwhile. My... more
This place is a pretty cool place to stay. But half of the city is just as nice. The room we got was TINY and for the price you pay to stay here I was a bit disappointed. Next time I will try out another hotel. And be prepared to spend $26/night on parking - if you are a guest. And $13/day for internet
A must-visit destination for any QC visitor. Unique in every way! I had both dinner and tea here, and both were magnificent. In an era of sameness and cookie-cutter conformity, it's a pleasure to visit a place like this.
MUST DO list is to take a tour of this historical chateau. You'll appreciate it more once you get to know the history of the building. The tour is 50 mins long. The tour guide dresses like a bourgeois during the 1800s. Guides are in English or French. At the end of the tour, I felt that I got an exclusive tour of the place. My tour guide, appeared in several travel magazines. She's really that... more

Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Expectations were met by friendly staff, beautiful cozy room. Acknowledgement of our honeymoon by way of a gift basket. Loved Quebec - we will return. No disappointments!
For a trip to remember, make sure that you stay at the best hotel in Quebec City. The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is an ancient monument and furthermore one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Not to be missed!
