As tourists, we found this neighborhood of shops and restaurants on Young Street a little off the beaten path, but totally charming as promised. We had crab cakes and salmon in pastry, both of which were delicious and the soups de jour: gazpacho and tarragon pea soup were extra special. Very happy with our meal and the charming atmosphere.
We came here for our anniversary and were blown away. From the very sweet card waiting on our table to the complimentary glasses of champagne, this was one of our best meals ever here. My wife had the seafood and I had the steak and both were awesome. Beet salad was pretty nice too!! Good wine selection and the chocolate... more
A friend and I were at this restaurant mid-May for lunch. She had been here before many times and enjoyed it. I wanted the shrimp/avocado/mango salad but the dressing was a honey/dill and I cannot tolerate dill at all. There were 3-5 other salads with various dressings so I asked our server if I could simply have another dressing in... more
Lovely small restaurant with great atmosphere. The food is always very good and interesting. Service is consistent as well. Have never had a bad meal there and consider it a regular go to place in Halifax. Recommended.
I've been coming here frequently ever since they've been open and it's always been consistent, great quality, fresh ingredients, fantastic staff in comfortable warm surroundings. Some of the newer additions to the menu are amazing: Spinach salad with roasted beets and 5 spice calamari are fantastic new appetizers, the salad is one of my favourites. We were here Friday night for... more
Lovely place to stop and unwind with a little pampering from the talented staff all around. Quality is very high and it feels nice in there. Don't sit too close to the door on a cold day, you'll get chilled as well as up close with every patron that enters.
I gave this an average rating because this kind of menu and food seems to be an average, mediocre offering these days. We were there for lunch on a Saturday recently. It was busy when we went in, so the service was not too dreadful considering that; we did have to chase down the server to get the bill and... more
Our go-to place for NYE dinners (5 now, I believe) and will be keeping up the tradition!! Service was great as usual and the food was up to the usual standards (maybe even a little more this time). Started with the Beet salad which my wife and I split (pretty good size) and had the pepper steak as a main.... more
Epicurious Morsels in The Hydrastone area of Halifax is a wonderful place to meet friends and have a delicious lunch. The food is so tasty and presentation visually appealing. No reservation taken so get there early.
I went to this restaurant on New Year's Eve 2013 expecting that this would be a special dining experience according to word of mouth.
However, my two guests were served food that was very ordinary.
In my case, I ordered the veal scaloppini Marsala and this was of poor quality. The dish came with a bed of egg noodles which...

Located in the historic Hydrostone area of north end Halifax. this is one of our favourite restaurants in the city (proven by the fact we had our wedding reception there). Chefs Jim and Jenn never fail to impress with the quality and consistency of their offerings. My wife says the seafood is really the specialty, but I prefer the pepper... more
I stopped in with a friend on a Thurs evening around 7:30pm, we were greeted by the hostess eager to seat us in this small restaurant. There were at least six empty tables scattered throughout the restaurant. When we were handed the menus, we explained we were just looking to have a nice dessert with coffee. The hostess then said... more
We ordered the meal to go and the dishes we tried were:
The Szechuan Spiced Salmon and Scallop Cakes & the Crab cakes, both of which were decent.
Lobster strudel , as well as , Smoked Salmon with Potato Pancakes (Latkes) ,which were delicious.
Braised Lamb Shanks - This was the most disappointing of all the dishes , as it...

As tourists, we went to visit the Hydrostone homes and area and stumbled upon this restaurant. I love it when you find restaurants that do not necessarily cater to the tourists but instead are frequented by the locals. We had a lovely breakfast; I had the eggs benny with smoked salmon... mmmm. My husband had the banana covered pancake which... more
My first visit to this small restaurant was a very pleasant experience indeed. Situated in a nice, leafy, neighbourhood of the city, it has a charming exterior, and a warm, welcoming interior. The ambience is just right: cozy without being too dark and with just the right (low) level of music to provide some atmosphere without drowning out conversation. It... more
Our server was the only good thing about this experience. We went to celebrate a little something - not a major event but just a little something. We like fine food and eat well - both at home and when we go out.
More than half of the wine list was "de-listed" but we didn't find that out until we...

I had heard positive reviews about Epicurious Morsels and was looking forward to trying it myself. I made reservations for 7.30 on Friday evening. When we arrived we were shown to our table which was situated right next to a table of four adults with the rest of the restaurant empty apart from diners at two other tables! We asked... more
We went for a quick lunch. We sat at one of the outside tables. I ordered the Cobb salad which was nicely done and my husband had the ham sandwich. Both were nicely prepared and the ingredients were fresh. I have eaten here several times over the years and always consistently good.
We had an excellent meal at this charming restaurant. Two perfectly prepared fish dishes with wonderful appetizers and an amazing lemon cake. One of our favorite restaurants in Halifax. And it is located in the Hydrostone neighborhood which has so much character. This restaurant is warm, cozy, and elegant, yet casual. Mainly frequented by locals as it is a little... more
We brought three European visitors here for an exceptional evening.
The soup special and the salad special were terrific.
For main, we had rack of lamb, flounder, monkfish tail, duck and lamb shank: all superb.
Great service, and a great evening.
Chef Jim is a perfectionist: his menu is designed, his plates are a work of art.
Don't expect strong...

We had supper. I had the lamb shank and my guest had the chicken. The chicken was a bit over done, but that happened to suit my guest's taste very well. My lamb was fine, and it's not a complaint really, but it described the moroccan seasonings. If there was anything moroccan, I certainly couldn't taste it. It was good... more
Although Epicurious is great any time of day, their weekend brunch is a personal favourite. A North End gem.
We were 4 couples. We had 7 starters, 8 entrees, 4 desserts and 3 bottles of wine.
Everything was outstanding. We each tried each other's and we all enthused over the meal we didn't order.
I had the crab & mango, and it was so fresh and tasty. Quite orgasmic.
For my main, I had the monkfish. Wow. Firm and...

We were a party of six adults for Sunday brunch. Everyone had something different and everyone was very happy with their choice. The staff was welcoming, attentive and adept at describing the menu items and the specials. We attended Epicurious for lunch and had a great experience. We were greated by our server who gave a friendly welcome, hung our jackets and explained the menu and the lunch specials. We ordered the smoked salmon & gravad tasters combination (their specialty), green split pea soup, salad and linguini with prawns. Everything was perfect. Our server was attentive and... more
The two of us went for lunch at Epicurious today and really enjoyed it. The brunch menu was available and I had eggs benny, which was terrific, and my husband had some delicious crab cakes and soup. Epicurious has been in business since at least 1996 and we have been enjoying this restaurant since it opened. My wife and I travel extensively and therefore dine out regularly. Epicurious is always a great treat. Jim and his staff deserve special mention for making dining out such a personal and wonderful experience.
I really enjoyed the rack of lamb: nicely cooked and served. The crab cakes were good, but not special. A nice selection of wines and attentive service made for a nice evening.
went there for a Sunday brunch, the menu items are quite appealing and make you wanna try their food, however once we got the food, it was sub-par, the flavors were not good or anything special. Only good part of the meal was the orange juice.
Time: Thursday at noon.
Weather: Warm and sunny, with a light breeze.
Appetite: Feeling peckish.
Solution: Epicurious Morsels in the Hydrostone Market!
With the sun shining, free parking, and my friend and I scoring a table on the patio- it was the trifecta we needed for a relaxing lunch. Perfect for people watching, whilst noshing on some light fare. Patiently waiting for us to ensconce...

My husband and I are regulars at Epicurious Morsels. The service is first rate, we enjoy the atmosphere, and Jim and his team turn out lovely, well presented meals every time. I think they have a secret garden for salad greens somewhere in the building, as they are always so fresh.

May/12-group of 5 women & we were the only patrons in the restaurant which immediately should tell you something was up: 1 ordered scallops & the dish came with frozen peas&corn quie surprising in a restaurant of supposed high quality! 2 ordered Veal Marsela - both were pounded paperthin & burnt with little taste. Veal is typically very tender how... more
I recently went to a friend's birthday dinner at this restaurant and I will not be returning. We were a table of 8 and the only table in the restaurant on a Friday night. Lovely, small restaurant off the beaten path and well worth the trip. The wine list is not exhaustive, but certainly more than adequate. Do not miss the smoked salmon, it is divine. We are here for lunch. The block it is in has interesting shops. The lunches are light but very good. The bread is excellent and the service is very good. The smoke their salmon in house. While this is without doubt our favourite restaurant in Halifax (their salmon is out of this world) and our friends were very impressed - a true hidden gem - we must aknowledge that it's not everyone's favourite. We go for the fantastic food, service & atmosphere, but we know some will find fault.

Seriously, I could eat here every week. The menu has wonderful diversity and there are choices for everyone. I have been to this restaurant for dinner a couple of times before, as I live in the neighbourhood. I've always found it to be okay - not great, just okay. We have only been here once for supper and it was terrific, careful polite service and wonderful food. The brunch is my favorite in Halifax. It always looks beautiful and tastes better. The service has never been less than exemplary.
This is a great place for lunch. There are many great healthy options. The place is small, so dining with a large group is not an option. The only real complaint was our waitress Not very friendly and actually almost rude. I would like to go back for dinner but I would hope for a different waitress.
Small restaurant - the chef is very much on display. Comfortable seating - booths are a favourite. Tables spread out enough so it doesn't seem crowded. Fantastic Brunch items on chalk board each week. Fantastic local menu items and interesting specials. Food is always scrumptious - great place for a special occasion!
If only I had read the reviews first. Pork tenderloin --small portion -rated an ok. Chicken incredibly small portion and dried out and had to be returned to the kitchen. This has been my favourite restaurant since I first tried in 2002 - I dine out frequently and love to try new places but I always come back here consistently as it's excellent. If you have not been here yet, try for brunch or lunch and... more
Brunch! They have the best in Halifax.
There is something about going to this place on a lazy old Sunday that just feels right. I love their coffee. It's fabulous. There Eggs Benedict is to die for. If you're a vegetarian you can get them with Avocado. My only complaint is the place is a little small and 9 times out of 10 you're going to have a long wait.
Everything tastes so good that it's hard to choose what to order! Whenever we go, we get lots of dishes so we can all share different flavours. We really like the crab cakes, the baked vegetable rice (basmati with eggplant, zucchini, peppers, cashews and Indian spices), the wild mushroom risotto cakes, and the Szechwan noodles. It's worth going to the Hydrostone just to eat here.
We tried Epicurious Morsels for a friend's birthday dinner. Everything was adequate (food, service, ambience) but nothing was all that special. I had the scallop spinach salad, which was basically a bunch of individual ingredients clumped together with some almost dry spinach. For a $15 salad, I really wasn't impressed. The general feeling at the table was "meh". There are... more
We decided to give this restaurant a try after reading a glowing review in the Globe and Mail recently. I went here last night for a quiet dinner. The restaurant is very tastefully done. The food was good; but I was a victim of a rude chef.
