We ate here once just because we were curious about how bad it could really be. Folks... in all honesty may be one of the worst restaurants in the world. Have NO clue how it has stayed in business.
It's hard to believe that the horrible reviews of this restaurant are accurate, but they really are. I ate at Ellam's probably in the late '60's when I visited Stratford. Now I live in Stratford and I don't think the place has changed at all! Lo, those many years ago, when the restaurant charged extra for the second cup of... more
If they don't have what you want, consider yourself lucky. I think it's just a hang out place for the local school kids. Avoid at all costs!! Food is lack luster and not fit for human consumption. Staff is not very friendly and really couldn't care less if you get up and walk out. Looks filthy and probably hasn't been... more
This isn't really much of a food review because we didn't actually eat here. Thought from outside it looked like a cute little diner and we were taken aback once we got in there by the fact was empty, but still decided to stay. The menus are the originals from maybe back when it opened 50 years ago and they... more
Tell any local you ate there and they will laugh at you, various serious health concerns. Enter at your own risk.
This place should have closed long ago. The owners now in their 80's can be seen sitting at one of the tables trying to stay awake for those two or three die hards who are bound to happen by. Place is for sale, but shouldn't be a restaraunt. The clock stopped in 1959
Re-used straws, giant white golbs of mold in the ketchup bottle, no attempt to clean the silverware or dishes, bug spray inches from an obviously filthy grill, no lights in the windowless bathrooms (probably for the best, who knows what one would have seen in there), dinner rolls instead of hamburger buns (literally 3 inches in diameter), repeated sneezing and... more
A friend held a birthday party here for the retro fun of this super-outdated dive on the main street. Even the pop cans were dusty! The owners sit in the empty restaurant all day and watch the locals pass by but I have never seen anyone actually eating in there. People only go in to buy cigarettes as far as... more
Truly a nightmare. Stay away from the bug infested place. The local burger joint would be better!
We were in Stratford for the day, and saw Ellam's, which looked like a quaint local business with a lot of history. There turned out to be more "history" as I have ever seen in a restaurant in my entire life.
First, the decor was "historically accurate", and the place looked (and smelled) like it had not been cleaned, let...

We had breakfast at Ellam's because we like the old fashioned charm of diners. My wife had a cheese omlette, and I had a western omlette. Both dishes were awful, but at least inexpensive.
While it may have been the worst restaurant I've ever been in in Canada, it was also a memorable experience for that reason. So, I highly...

Seriously. I'm not even exaggerating for effect here. This was hands down the worst dining experience I have ever had. This is a long standing mom and pop diner on the main street in downtown Stratford, Ontario. I'm convinced the only people the eat here are tourists that don't know the suffering they are about to endure (that was me),... more
