El Fogon is ground zero for authentic Peruvian cuisine in Toronto. On the menu are traditional offerings such as aguadito de pollo, ceviche and fried fish.
We had to wait a long time to get the appetizer, and another very long wait to get the main dish - which was not tasteful at all. Their prices are on the higher side, but the quality of the food is just not there. On top of this, I got the food before my wife and we had to... more
I came here with my Bolivian friend who was visiting Toronto. She asked about Bolivian restaurants, and we couldn't find any in the city. She decided a Peruvian restaurant would be close enough (since they're neighbours). We ordered the antichucos (veal hearts), the fish ceviche, the seafood ceviche and pisco sours. The food was fresh and flavourful. The seafood was... more
went to el fogon and we were happy we did. we started with the ceviche, which was very fresh! then we had the mariscada al fogon (seafood stew) and tacu tacu con bistec (beans and rice patty with grilled steak). both were super tasty. for dessert we had the alfajor, which again, was good. next time we'll get the veal... more

This moderately priced restaurant serves excellent peruvian food, and we've eaten here many times over the years. Seafood and fish stews are particularly good mains, as are the soups (which you can make a meal of). Appetizers feature avocado and potato dishes. A dish made of marinated beef hearts that are grilled on a skewer is a good one to... more
We were there saturday march 23, the place was packed , we waited for a table for 20 min. Finally we got one and the waiter told us that it gets this busy on the weekends. We ordered breaded calamari and for the main courses 2 large seafood soups, the chicharron d calamari was so good and u could tell they... more
We had a reservation for 730 pm last sunday. We called them and told them we were running half an hour late. When we got there the waiter was running around delivering big plates to some tables. So we were kind of ignored for a few minutes. Finally he came and showed us our table. We sat down and suddenly... more
We arrived a bit before 7pm on a Sunday to eat. One larger group and a couple small groups were already there, which may have contributed to how long it took our food to arrive. The waiter was friendly and readily refilled our waters, but unfortunately when our two main courses (Seco de carne and Mariscada de Fogon) finally arrived,... more
We came here for lunch on a Sunday not knowing what to expect never having had Peruvian food before. The waiter was very helpful with our selections, and the food was very good. Great value. Will definitely go again.
This was my sixth visit to El Fogon. I will definitely continue to return. The Sunday brunch is scrumptious. The hot and cold appetizers tweak the taste buds in pleasant ways. The food of Peru is clean and refreshing to the palate.
All of the mains I have had easily tempt me for a return visit. Please try this gem...

We walked in on a bustling Saturday night. The server looked a little flustered seating us and later mentioned that it was one of the busier nights he's had.
We ordered the plantains for an appetizer: Simple and delicious.
For mains we ordered Bistek Encebollado con Frijoles and Lomo Saltado, both beef dishes with rice. For my first experience with...

When we entered this Peruvian restaurant we were greeted by a friendly server who told us of the two specials that night, the first was Peruvian and the second was a steak. I said that we had never had Peruvian food so why would we have a steak? He laughed and said that they had to have a backup, just... more
We were four people and tried the restaurant for the first time. Because it is located on St Clair, and we all love to explore the area, El fogon was a good option. Also, when we went there was with an idea of giving a break to the Colombia restaurant located in the same street. Big mistake!!! The food is... more
menu looked good but restaurant looked drab until it went through a restaurant makeover and posted the menu on the front window. Brighter in decor, it is about a 40 seat restaurant. The waitress was welcoming but when I asked for iced tea, she said all they had was the mix but if I wanted the real thing I could MAKE it myself if she brought me the tea?!!?!?
My companion and I started with...

We ordered lomo saltado (14.95), which was just average and arroz con mariscos (17.95), not good at all, a very little amount of mariscos with some of the mussels inedible.
Service was fine, we won't come again as we found that quality doesn't match the expectations when you are paying those prices!!!
Great experience. Pisco sour is excellent. Seafood dishes are a great choice.
New design is attractive and comfortable. Staff are friendly and attentive
Recently re-decordated by a TV reality show, we heard good things about the place so decided to give it a try. The pisco sours were not bad, a little sweet for my liking. Having been to Peru, I can attest they don't usually taste like a daiquiri. The yuca fritas are really delicious. My wife and I both had the... more
The Lomo Saltado Carne and Pollo are amazing. Brought back Peruvian memories.
Located in midtown Toronto, the restaurant has a cozy feel. Food is good.
Fish stew is tasty and easy to do but this one should be left out of the menu. The white fish came as a filet under a wine sauce with onions and tomato on top but the sauce had no time to get acquainted with the fish, which was tasteless and rubbery. Slices of potatoes and white rice served together... more
Wait staff was very pleasant and helpful. Dishses are interesting- I would guess them to be quite authentic never having visited Peru. Food was great- I think there something for just about anyone here!
We were surprised because we thought we were going to an Italian restaurant. We decided to stay. The restaurant isn't fancy and we spent a lot of time on the menu. In the end we asked the waiter for suggestions. The waiter looked unpolished but 1st impressions were wrong. He was very helpful and tried very hard. I had the... more
The food is good and affordable,I tried the Parihuela soup and is awesome!.my friend had the Arroz con mariscos and was amazing so fresh!!i recomend you guys to try it!
Toronto has too few Peruvian restaurants, which is surprising for a city this large (and most of them only last a couple of years), so having a good, reliable restaurant where one can enjoy the excellent Peruvian cousine is a Godsend. The service is always prompt, with a permanent smile, and very courteous.
Take it from a Peruvian expat, "El...

Peruvian home-style cooking. Great soul food. Always leave full and happy. Something for everyone. Casual family restaurant.
Just south of Forest Hill, El Fogon specializes in Peruvian cuisine, which is influenced by Spanish and Latin themes, but is made unique through the taste of Peru’s indigenous peppers. Running until late in the evening, El Fogun is one of many Latin American destinations on St. Clair, though this casual, airy eat-in destination serves all forms of Peruvian cuisine: from coastal traditional... more
