Winnipeg's longest-standing, highest rated East-Indian restaurant. Buffet service and full a-la-carte service
East India Company Restaurants have been in business for over thirty years and have always enjoyed a reputation for the best East Indian Food in Ottawa and Winnipeg, Canada. The company is known not only for the high quality of food and service provided, but also for the atmosphere created through authentic Indian artwork ranging from 100 to 500 years old displayed through out the restaurants. ... more
Maybe one of the best Indian buffets I've ever had. Excellent veg dishes. Great selection of pickles. Fish pakora available as well as samosas and veggie pakoras in the appetizers. Fantastic lamb curry and lamb spinach curry the night we were there. I agree with the other reviewer about the faux crab dish. Perhaps that was the main disappointment along with charging extra for naan without... more
I'm still stuffed some 12 hours later, and as Martha Stewart says, "and that's a good thing". An excellent and diverse dining outing to celebrate a special birthday. All in all a great choice.
We were seated promptly and right away our waiter asked if this was a special occasion. Nice touch. He was very efficient throughout the evening always clearing away dirty plates and seeing if we needed...

Thinking about my experience at this restaurant actually makes me angry. Based on what happened here some 16 years ago, I have never been back. Still, I will try to remain objective.
Positives: décor is very impressive. Food is pretty good.
Negatives: Service. I am going to say something which may be controversial, but is a widely held belief amongst much of the East Indian community and is...

We were there here for dinner buffet.
I am an Indian-American living in the states. This place is hands down better than almost all Indian buffets I have been to before.
Wide variety of veg and non-veg dishes, and great authentic flavors.
It was a pleasant surprise to discover this place after a long tiring day of sight-seeing. This place is definitely worth the $20 price tag.
Love this place! The atmosphere is very elegant for a buffet restaurant and the food is delicious. Not as pricey as some other similar restaurants.
Very large Indian buffet, which made me skeptical of the quality but just about everything I had was really good and flavorful.
I went yesterday, they have a VERY VERY good food, excellent service and free WIFI. It's now my favorite Indian restaurant. In a busy time it's loud because it's small restaurant but you can just ask for a quiet area if it's available. They are very helpful.
Amazing food and great service at the table. The buffet selection has a wide variety and they are quick to seat you if you are looking to chow down quickly.
The atmosphere is great as well, however if you're looking to pay quickly and get out and back to the office over the lunch period, you'll end up spending about half your time there in line waiting to pay.

To start, I really hate the interior and the design. Tables are close together. My friend and I were seated right next to another table (when the place was nearly empty) and the guy was super loud. Not blaming him but seriously ruins your dinner conversation when the table next to you is less than a foot away. Second, service was weird. Like awkward. Like come to your table every 2 minutes to... more
The dinner buffet, at about $25 with tax, is excellent value. I have had it several times and have never been disappointed. There is a wide selection of delicious and high-quality items, including lamb, three chicken dishes, mussels, and others. Service is friendly and helpful too.
The food here is edible but otherwise nothing special. Meats are slightly overcooked, not a large drink selection (and the drinks they do have do not taste as they normally do). The customer service is very friendly and polite but unfortunately the food doesn't match up to it. There are definitely better Indian locations in the city, some of which are less expensive as well.
The food is AWESOME! My son found this place on yelp.
The service was bad which is interesting since they have a wall hanging in the entrance saying what an honor it is to have you? No joke the waiter would come to the table with pitcher of water, fill my son's glass and walk away with out even noticing my glass was empty. The guy running the till kept the help running around like there was no...

Awesome food and really attentive staff. I found this place on yelp and had a great experience. I dined alone and sat at the bar and the owner made sure I had everything I needed.
With its convenient downtown location, consistently generous and good buffets, this is our go-to place for Indian food in Winnipeg. The buffet offers salads, appetizers, seafood, vegetarian options, and choice of desserts. I usually make sure to get some of the Indian stuff in the salad bar- chaat-like salads, and I like that they have seafood in the buffet- a... more
Ate here this weekend. Had the buffet for about 25$ per person. Not bad for a clean and flavorful Indian place. Was happy with the options and the flavor of the food. Good deserts as well. I wish the samosas are better and Nan is included. Service was very good.
We found this place on Yelp for our last night in Winnipeg. The hotel made reservations for us early and got there to find the buffet laid out. It was a nice selection of all types of curry, meat dishes, rice, and also dessert. Nan is extra and we decided to stick with regular rather than with garlic, etc. flavoring. I was stuffed and had room for only some Indian ice cream. The buffet was for... more
Fresh naan made to order! It's always a good sign when you walk into an Indian restaurant and it's full of Indian families :) The buffet has a wide variety of curries and protein so there's something for everyone.
Every time I visit Winnipeg I stop here for the buffet. Love it. Lots of selection. Definitely order the chai tea. You won't regret it.
This place is alway good. Lots of hot dishes, some veggie choices and a wide variety of condiments, chutneys and breads.
Good quality, reasonably prices and they pour Guinness.
We went in for dinner and chose the buffet. There are so many choices and it all smells and looks so good. It's hard to try everything so have a little of each item and you might be able to do it. The service is great, the owners are very friendly and social.
I visited this restaurant this evening and I have to say I was disappointed. After reading reviews on Tripadvisor, I expected a little more to this place. Being a Saturday night, it was busy and we did not make reservations. We didn't have to wait more than 15 min if that to get a table, but there was a line... more
After our bad experience with takeout from this restaurant it took a while before I would try the buffet. We tried it in February 2014 and it is AMAZING! The food was so good and the selection outstanding. We were shocked at the wonderful seafood they had. The desserts were so good, my only regret is I was too full... more
My favourite Winnipeg restaurant. Indian food has replaced Italian as my favourite and this restaurant is the best of its type in the city.

I've eaten a lot of excellent Indian food, and eaten at a lot of excellent buffets, but this one was an amazing combination of the two!
The variety of hot items was extremely broad, and there was no way to sample everything (though I tried very tiny portions). The condiments and pickles station had equal variety, and the quality of...

Affordable and delicious. Accessible from the sky walk. I walked from the MTS Arena through the skywalk and went down an elevator and found a side door without ever going outside. Once in there I was greeted and given a table. The buffet was much larger than I expected. There was at least 20 hot items available. A great selection of vegetarian items and was a little surprised to see the couple... more
The buffet at East Indian company is massive and delicious. They have beef, chicken, fish, turkey and lamb dishes as well as vegetarian. Their butter chicken is amazing. I love their chicken "lollipops". Included with the buffet is the salad and dessert bar. I like that the restaurant is family owned. We frequent this restaurant quite a bit.
Was in for an event at the MTS centre, and stopped in for the dinner buffet.
It was expensive - over 20 per person - but it was the best Indian food I've ever had! Wonderful meal!
Came here a couple of times. Once last year and once two years ago. It's located right behind the Delta hotel (and same building as our Winnipeg office).
This place is like a mini Tandoori Flame, but better quality.
Huge selection and food was fresh. It's like one big long aisle and you need to take at least 3 trips up to try all the hot food. Definitely try this place out if you are ever in...

We had lunch at the buffet. There was a lot of selection and the food was good. The restaurant is cllose to the Convention Center which was very convenient.
Our son who is new to Winnipeg suggested we visit this place whilst we were visiting him as he had previously eaten at it.. I went here for dinner in shorts stained by the beach and an earlier adventure with the mud and flip-flops. I felt like those dreams everybody has in which they show up at school or work naked beside the formally-dressed waiters and owner, but that's beside the point - East India Company has the largest Indian buffet I've ever had the pleasure of eating at. Although you'll pay for it ($21 for... more
We have tried many Indian restaurants in Winnipeg and we keep returning to East India because of the variety. We have eaten off the menu as well as the buffet. We recently meandered over to the East India Co while staying at the Fort Garry Hotel. We thought the buffet was a decent price at $20.95. generally good value on the buffet but charging extra for the Nan bread is a bit of a rip off. The owners are a little pretentious.
Waited for a while in spite of a reservation, however, it was well worth it. The buffet had dozens of different dishes and most options were delicious and authentic. I had a lassi as well that was quite tasty. Decor is quite nice. Worth a visit!
I have recently reviewed a restaurant that is underserving of it's current listing as 18 in Winnipeg, how it got this rating I have no idea and it made me ponder . . . perhaps more people in Winnipeg need to write positive reviews about their great experiences. My favourite East Indian restaurant! The lunch time buffet is amazing and plentiful! Better take the afternoon off cause you are going to be soooooooooooo full! Excellent service and the owners are usually there and are very friendly!
Neither quality nor quantity provided reason for the incredibly inflated prices. It was $25 for a meal that deserved no more than $8. I'll give them this though, the nan was pretty good.
You can't go wrong with the buffet...great chance to experiment with something you might be reluctant to try. The salads are wonderful as is the fresh, yummy naan bread.
We were here to meet up a few of my husband's co-workers who were flying back the next day. They were Indian so we knew we could trust their palates for Indian food.
As we sat down, the young lady took our drink orders and asked how many naan breads we wanted. Was a little confused since I wanted to take a peek at the menu but they told us that this was a buffet. Not knowing that we were here...

The saag was so good, I'd go back just for that dish. The spicy chickpeas and chickpea curry were also delish. We ate at the place after it was recommended by the front desk agent at the holiday inn. The service was fine but the food was not good. A bland buffet that even at $20 was well overpriced. Would not eat here again!
We were really impressed by the whole experience. A warm smile and greeting walking in, great service, and most importantly ridiculously good food. The buffet (which you normally would think of as a thing to avoid) was perfect all the way down the line. Our most recent visit to this restaurant was a big disappointment. Stale pakhoras, mushy tomato salad that should have been tossed, and a couple of watery, very bland curries suggest declining quality control in a restaurant that used to be a good bet for nice and varied Indian food.
Unlike most Indian buffets, this place has a very large selection of both vegetarian and meat dishes - with a great range of different subtle flavors - not like the dull lukewarm stews you get in some restaurants. The price is very fair too.
Naan is the best I ever had. The vegetarian buffet section was perfect!
Solid service...very diverse buffet...high food quality.
Will be back...thanks.
We don't normally go to or enjoy buffets. This is for sure the exception. So many dishes hot and cold. The flavours are wonderful. This is the most expensive Indian buffet I've ever eaten at and I've been to several (at least in the US). However, I've never had that variety of food, spices and dessert. Excellent all around! I would not hesitate to go back if I were in the Winnipeg area.
Had friends in from out of town who wanted to try Indian food. We had been there before, so knew what to expect. Numerous choices, lots of tasty dishes, some good spicy dishes
We had a large (12 people) birthday dinner here and enjoyed the extensive buffet. It was great because not everyone in our party is a seasoned Indian food lover but everyone found items they liked, even our 2-year-old niece! Save room for dessert because they have quite a few treats that are worth trying!
Maybe it is a buffet thing: lots of food, lots of selection but most of it fairly bland and tepid. There is very little taste variation across the 30 plus menus choices bubbling away in the serving dishes. There is little to distinguish the palak paneer from the chicken tikka. But it's extremely popular... fine for the unadventurous but gluttonous... more

Definitely one of the best, if not the best Indian restaurant in Winnipeg. Great food, buffet style, Naan bread to order, stupendous array of foods to try! Great chutneys and relishes. Definitely a place to try if you are a fan of Indian cuisine.
It's impossible to write any kind of review which will do East India Company justice. This place is outstanding and without a doubt the best indian food I've ever eaten. Always friendly and attentive service and and great mix of menu items in the buffet. If your hungry and want fantastic food. This is the place. You won't leave hungry or dissapointed.
East India has the best lunch buffet in Winnipeg! Because I am relatively new to Indian food, the buffet allows you to taste a little of everything and then to go back for your favourites. And believe me, you will have favourites! I try to eat something new each time and have rarely been disappointed.
Good selection of buffet items, mostly all fresh. My biggest complaint is that the naan (bread) is extra which is a rip off, it should be included in the price.
It's the best indian buffet in Winnipeg. I've been to the others and the selection and quality are not the best.
My favorite lunch place in Winnipeg. Good location downtown, with both on street and underground parking.
This place started it all. . originally over by HSC, this is the best Indian buffet in the city. . . but warning though... come hungry or you won't be able to try every dish they have to offer in their buffet. . which would be a shame.
