Welcome to the Duke of Gloucester a little piece of England in Toronto
Favorite haunt. I love the juke box it plays really old rock and punk classics. I love the vibe too its a dark dingy bar that has ok pub food but great people
The stairway is disgusting and the stale smell prevented me from wishing to venture any further. Unlike any English pub in England, thankfully.
We found this place randomly while walking back to the hotel. We went upstairs and were amazed at the atmosphere and the location. The outdoor patio is definitely a hidden gem. It gave our group a great place to relax and have a few drinks. The bartender was very nice, she came to check on us, and treated us well.
Let me start off by saying that I am writing this review as an Englishman who appreciates a decent pub with a good atmosphere, basic service and tv's to show the football.
I visited the Duke of Gloucester for the first time last week after being told to do so by some Canadian friends. They told me it was a...

Im reviewing this as a bar, not restaurant as i didnt eat there.
This is great bar with good staff and good beers. There is a nice smoking area here which comes as a surprise as the entrance to the DOG is a single doorway leading you up a flight of stairs. You'd never think there could be such a...

Now don't hate me for saying it, but I don't know what the big deal is. Give me a Canadian pub any day of the week I'd say.
The jukebox was decent, but hardly the best in town (that credit goes to The Jersey Giant's selection on Front).
It could be that I'm not in love with Soccer (or English football) but I couldn't get used to the idea of being so close to other people, sitting in...

I only come to this bar in the daytime when Darren is working. He is a wonderful bartender that will definitely keep you entertained. Drinks and food are very reasonable priced with big portions. The bar in kind of interesting because it has big derides so you can feel like you are at a booth when you're sitting at the... more
The duke is a great dive pub with tons of atmosphere. There's always footy on & the regulars are worth watching. The food is terrible but the beer choices are great & the bar staff are worth the trip.
From the food to the staff, all is really good!..the drinks are amazingly priced for the heart of the city. The food is always good, never cold or overcooked. The staff are ALWAYS friendly and willing to strike up a conversation. All in all a great place to come and hang out to watch a game, have a pint at... more
This place is often missed by people because it's located on the upper level and the door to it is not too visible. It's not wheelchair accessible, and those having trouble walking the stairs will not like this place. It's usually filled with regulars, mostly folks stopping for a few drinks after work or who come to watch soccer and... more
We have been to this Pub several times, the food is good, British in style - lots of curry. Prices are very reasonable, the location on Yonge street is somewhat as you must walk up a staircase. If you are in the neighbourhood, take a load off your feet, drop by, have a drink and some good food.
Kind of like that place your mom warned you about. And the people in it are worse.
A very casual pub. Mistakenly took my parents here when they were meeting my boyfriend, we had meant to go to the Duke of Richmond on Bay.
The food was the high-point, the basic pub fare (Burgers, Onion Rings, Fish and Chips) were all properly prepared. Props for perfectly crispy onion rings. I tried the deep fried "Heart Attack Burger" without a fried egg, and it was too large and cumbersome...

Great, comfy pub atmosphere. Average selection of beer on tap but what is there is good.
This is the pub where the Toronto Newcastle supporters club (Torontoon Army) meet up to watch games.
2nd-floor pub with many beers & hearty pub grub, plus lots of footy on TV, from MLS to Premiership.
With high backed, plush red couches, burgundy wallpaper, pool tables, dartboards, soccer on the "telly" and types of draft beer, there's no mistaking the authenticity of this pub at the Yonge-Bloor cross downtown. There is live music every Saturday night and a weekly dart league for those whose aim is true. The traditional British cuisine is augmented with some creative Euro-twists. Tandoori... more
Equipped with music and even a television, the heated roof-top patio with retractable roof offers protection during the colder months, and lets patrons bask in the sunshine in good weather. The patio accommodates approximately 30-40 people. The Duke of Gloucester is one of Toronto's more authentic British pubs and is known to attract many ex-pats. In fact, the bar was actually built in Britain... more
