Merrickville is always a charming town to visit to enjoy the sights and boutiques. After walking through the town on a hot summer day, anyone and everyone who knows Merrickville makes a stop at the Downtown Ice Cream Shoppe to savor one of the delicious and often unusual flavors. Rhubarb ice cream was my delightful experiment this time, but Oh,... more
Two large waffle cones with two scoops each made for lots of decision making. Luckily the staff is happy to offer mini-spoons of taste samples to make up your mind. The small shoppe was very crowded but the staff were very efficient in their scooping and kept everyone moving along.
Lots of unique flavours, made on site. Great staff, friendly and helpful. Shop is cosy but has lots of interesting items. Definitely worth a stop.
We drove all the way for their gelato from Kingston and it was amazingly good. Some elderly bus visitors thought it was too expensive but they were so wrong. Quality ingredients are evident in the taste and I'd rather pay more for something delicious and homemade than pay a little for bad product.
will be back….
Loved the local flavours (rhubarb great!)
Friendly staff were flexible to accomodate requests and gave samples with patience.
I was here the other day and it was delicious. I had a scoop of daquiri and a scoop of peach in a waffle cone. Where the two flavours met tasted very much like a peach bellini or peach daquiri.
They also had a mystery flavour, which you could guess what it is or is made with.

You can't go wrong with ice cream. It can get very crowded in a little store. Sometimes it's difficult to see the flavours (they have lots) because everybody is trying to look at what's available. It's also a little pricey. The ice cream is made on the premises using local ingredients. It's a "mom and pop" so if you're looking... more
It was very busy when we went in, but the sales guy happily made me a soy-milk soft-scoop vegan "ice cream". My partner loved his coffee ice cream. Bonus - you can try flavours before making your selection.
lots of flavours and choices of cones. You get to sample different flavours before you commit to one which is very useful. However, the downside is that the ice cream is pricey.
We stopped on after a lovely picnic by the locks. They make their waffle cones on site, so that was the first thing we smelled, yum! I had the limoncello and the pomegranate gelato, both were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the tangy lemon. The chocolate and coffee gelato were also very good. The waffles cones were excellent! The servings were... more
The lemon gelato was perfect for a 30+ degree day. The shop was crowded and everyone seemed to enjoy their choices.
We stopped in here on a hot summer day for some yummy home made ice cream. What a treat! They had some of usual flavors like Vanilla and chocolate and then some more unusual ones like rhubarb and raspberry. I had one called crazy kid, mmmm. Yum!
Once you have sampled icecream here you come back again and again. Waffle cones made fresh on the premises. Excellent creamy icecream.
Ice cream was average at best and overpriced! I have had better for less! I tried coldstone creamery on my way from Toronto and its much better for less. Merrickville is still a great community to visit so do your self a favour and see all the historic buildings and nice little shops.
Popped in on our way out of town for a cone. A nice variety of homemade ice cream and gelato flavours. There was a large candy variety as well. The service was very friendly.
The best maple walnut ice cream ever!!! A must place to visit. Long line-up but well worth the wait ...enjoy!
This place is always busy in the summertime and it is easy to see why. Their ice cream and gelato is made on the premises and it is wonderful. We always get a single scoop in a waffle cone and the two cones come to over $10, so it's not cheap, but you really get what you pay for.

Very good ice cream and waffle cones but expensive! Lots of flavours to choose from. Cute shop with locally made toys and lots of candy choices. Tried to sponge toffee and it was very very salty for some reason. $23 for a small kids cone, a double scoop waffle cone, single scoop waffle cone, toffee and 2 Oreos. Nice staff.... more
A refreshing treat for sure. But as far as home-made ice cream goes, this one is averagely good. I've had far better - in NYC as well as in Wakefield.
Decent ice-cream but I've had much better for less.
These guys have the BEST ice cream in the Rideau! My wife had us go there twice in one weekend, and we live 45 minutes away. The only drawback is that it is a small olde tyme shoppe and its ALWAYS busy. But if you don't mind the wait it's worth it.
Bon appetit!
This little ice cream shop is home to some of the tastiest ice cream I've ever had. Well done!
What great ice cream. All the ice cream is hand made on site. Many of the flavors you've never experienced before (one of my favs is rhubarb). Try it; you'll like it.
One of the best ice cream places I have been to in all of canada
I am so happy I live here now, especially the hokey pokey and ginger cayenne flavours!!!
I LOVE this place. It's very "old school" (as my boyfriend described), given that we were offered samples of the ice cream and gelato flavours before making a purchase. All the ice cream and gelato is homemade, and man is it delicious. You can even get a single scoop with two flavours (try the Crazy Kid with the Tiger Tail--it's... more
This is a family owned shop that sells their own home made iceream and sweets, its not a restaurant as Tripadvisor thinks it is. It was a hot sunny Saturday when we visited the lovely village of Merrickville, whilst my wife and daughter in law were in a dress shop I discovered the ice cream shop, what a delight, friendly... more
