Although a pretty setting, the food was awful and the server said he hated Toronto and his job! Go to the Elm Tree Restaurant a couple of doors away.
Great little recommendation by the Courtyard hotel. Enthusiastically welcomed and quickly seated upstairs, outside in the front - great table. Well-paced, friendly service. Good wine list. Excellent meals at reasonable prices given the meal, location, atmosphere & service. Not rushed, but well attended to through out the evening. Veal was tender, sauces perfect. The appetizers - one was... more
We dined at Donatello Restaurant in July 2014. The ambiance, food and service were excellent! What left a bad taste for us was that the menu prices posted outside were lower, by $2 an entree, than the actual menu prices. In addition, my husband ordered the "COSTOLETTE D'AGNELLO Charcoal broiled lamb chops cut from the rack of lamb" for $29.95... more
We dined at Donatello's on Saturday July 26th, 2014 at the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel. We were so happy with the food and the service. This was a group of 4 women in Toronto for a girls trip. The drinks were strong, and the food very authentic which we appreciated. The tomatoes on the bruschetta appetizer were... more
I had the stuffed ravioli with win and salad. By partner had the same meal style just different pasta and we both loved it. If you just crave a nice big well made portion of pasta this is such a good spot. Gets busy do book in advance, seating is quite close to other guests but it was candle lit... more
service was really not organized. At the end of the meal we were left of 20 min without anyone comming with the check. In the end I had to queue at the bar to pay.
My guest was still eating his salad when the main course arrives
previous visit had to ask for bread 3 times before it actually came....

...or everyone will get there. Great food, staff was very friendly and made it a fun experience. The Carpaccio has a bit too much cheese, but the ice cream was phenomenal.
This was a by chance visit that turned out perfect. Start to finish it was spot on, from being greeted at the door to leaving the meal, atmosphere, and experience was perfect. The wine list is perfect, the meal I had tasty, we'll seasoned, and while the portion could have been a bit larger it was worth stopping here.
I chose this restaurant solely based on reviews on here, and I am extremely happy that I did so! This restaurant is authentic Italian without all the fluff or expense of other places in Toronto. The service was excellent, not too attentive but just enough. The host was welcoming and friendly. If you're looking for a place that is not... more
Fabulous service and amazing authentic food. Lovely location as well. We ordered the butternut squash ravioli with cream sauce, and it was the best we've ever had!
William served us, most attentive-many thanks for making 2visits great. Food absolutely delicious and well presented. We loved it and won't forget the experience.
prosecco not the best but bruschetta and salmon were very good. they impressed me even by understanding "macchiato freddo", wow
After searching a few menus on Elm, we decided on Donatello thanks to the amazing host who drew us in with the nightly features. Service was outstanding (Mila) and food was delicious. Had appetizers and bread to start. Bread was mildly burnt and our main course took a little bit long to come, but it was worth the wait. One... more
Attentive, friendly service, delicious Italian food. Cozy, non-pretentious, ambiance. Thoroughly enjoyed this meal.
Nine family members and I went out for dinner the other night in Toronto. It was a fairly last minute, well for a group of 10 last minute, decision to go to Donatello's. We called just before 5 and they were able to give us a reservation at 6.
Upon arriving, we found that we essentially had a private room...

Loved this restaurant. Food was great. Service was friendly. Will definitely return on my next visit to Toronto.
Went with a group of 5 and we had an excellent time eating, drinking, and talking. Food was great, Owner and server were excellent. We ate in the upstairs room. The restaurant was packed at 7:30 on a Tuesday night. Wish that it had been warmer so that we could have sat on the outside terrace!
I've eaten here many times and never been disappointed - go for the specials if you can and in particular, the crab ravioli as it's DELICIOUS!
Pleasant, friendly environment and delicious food. We certainly had a great and enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. The reservation definitely helps, as the place is quite popular.
I was at this business establishment last night. The host was a very young, latino/mexican but professional gentleman Kaleb who greeted us with a big smile on his face and told us the specials in a detailed way. Then he said that he has nothing available momentarily but he will arrange a table for us very shortly. There were people... more
My friend and I chose this restaurant based on the previous reviews. Downstairs was busy and we were seated upstairs. Halfway thru appetizers, the staff set a table for 6 next to us. Then they added a table and another and another until we were surrounded by 20 strangers. We asked to be moved and were put off in a... more
A dinner here while my wife and I were at a conference. The food was good. The service was informal and superlative. Louie is a great salesman. The crab ravioli was excellent, but had a little too much sauce for my taste. The shrimp diavola was good (maybe a little short on red pepper). Nona's salad was beyond reproach.
Was there form my birthday with family, and guys were awesome. Marco was very nice with us! In the end Donatello showed up in our table, just awesome folks there.
We loved this place!. My boyfriend and I went without reservation, when we arrived the restaurant was full and they had just two tables and they were reserve but they accommodate us. The place is very cozy and clean. The service was excellent, very attentive and fast. The food.... the fooooooodddd! Oh this was the best, we asked for a... more
Found this place on Yelp after hubby decided it was Italian he wanted for our last night visiting the big city.Had to have a place close to hotel and a venue we had booked to see a concert later in the evening. Location is very central and is tucked in just north of Eaton Center. Friendly hostess greeted us outside... more
Last Fall, I stayed at Eaton Chelsea for several weeks while my spouse was undergoing treatment at nearby Mt. Sinai hospital.
Early on in that residency, I went for dinner at Donatello which is right across from the Chelsea on Elm Street.
After my first experience, I never looked for another restaurant, and had dinner at Donatello every evening for...

Went to Donatello with a friend who I hadn't seen for a while. Servers were great. Knew when to approach and when to let us continue our conversation. Even as we came towards closing time, I felt no pressure to finish up.
Food was good, but not the spectacular that I would need to give it a 5. Bread was...

We have been to Toronto and stayed dowtntown several times and had never really found a great restaurant until now. There is a difference between eatting and dining, and a night at Donatello's is definitely a dining experience! The staff goes above and beyond to make everyone feel very special. Our waiter was great and helped us make good choices.... more
We were staying at the Eaton Chelsea across the street and had fully planned to have dinner at The Keg Mansion. It turned out there was a snowstorm so instead of taking a cab to the Keg we decided to check out Donatello after walking by it in the morning on our way for breakfast. We are so glad we... more
We read the reviews and saw several great ones on Trip Advisor & a couple of negative ones but we have heard of Donatellos and always wanted to try it out. We walked in this afternoon & made a reservation for that night. We arrived at 7:00 pm and left at 10:00 pm. Wow! what an excellent romantic dinner. Mila,... more
I frequent this Italian fine dining restaurant. You are really somebody when you walk in. Owners Giacomo and Filomena greet you with a hug. First thing they ask "How are you, How is the family, efverything Ok?" then they personally refer you to one of the waiters(waitresses) who take you to your dining table. Believe me when you look at... more
I ended up in this restaurant by luck without any reservation. Every dish I tried was so delicious, I don't like sausage but I can eat bowls of sausage ravioli in this place, it was that good. It is a cozy place, you should have reservation.
the scallop and shrimp bathed in white wine sauce over angel hair was a true culinary delight. a friendly leisurely and elegant restaurant it seems cozy but sprawls across 3 floors in a delightful converted brownstone. We enjoyed the attentiveness of our server William who guided us through the various courses. Excellent wine list.
I made my reservation for Valentine's day many weeks in advance as it was likely to be especially busy given it landing on a Friday this year. We had been there before so knew to ask for a downstairs table. I was called on the Monday before for confirmation.
We arrived at 8 and saw a few open tables, but...

We arrived with a reservation to celebrate your wedding anniversary. We were seated and served immediately by Mila who was very charming. Unfortunately "Uncle Louie" was also serving and was very loud and over familiar, if we heard about his poor track record with his personal relationships once, he must have repeated it at least four more times while we... more
I walked to Donatello in the afternoon to personally make a reservation and I did so with the manager. He gave me his word that my table for four would be ready for 7:30 and we wouldn't have to wait upon our arrival. I shook his hand upon departing and told him, I was looking forward to our dinner.

Our family went to Donatello to celebrate a birthday and we had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and we would have no qualms about returning in the future.
Amazing Italian food. Everything was homemade and fresh. I strongly recommend this place for authentic Italian food and atmosphere.
Took my family (wife 2 young adult children). Fantastic service, delicious fresh food , not rushed, excellent recommendations by waiter "uncle Louie " A really enjoyable night out with the family. Worth the visit.
When I called to make initial reservation I was told nothing was available until 8:30pm...we arrive at that time and find an abundance of tables available so not sure as to why we could not have had an earlier reservation. First time here for dinner. Great Italian food with good choices. Friendly and attentive staff. Will return agan.
Great food - always consistent and different - but make a reservation (even during the week). Don't get the table by the door (very drafty).
This restaurant is a must! We dined on spaghetti 2000, a pea and tortellini with white sauce, and more. Each dish was to die for. Attention to customers...wonderful.
It appears that the owners do not pay attention to these reviews. Several people mentioned in previous posts that the music was too loud. Indeed, loud it was tonight as well. Loud music caused people to shout to each other, making the whole place really uncomfortable. So much for a romantic atmosphere we were hoping to find there.

Very cosy authentic Italian restaurant across the street from the Eaton Chelsea Hotel. My family travels every year to Toronto in the fall. This year we decided to try a new restaurant. So Donatello's it was. Such a great idea. Excellent, service, food, atmosphere just everything was excellent. I would go back in a heartbeat.
A group of co-workers from Iceland had a great evening at Donatello Restaurant. We booked for the group in advance via e-mail before we went to Canada.
