I love Doan's. It's the kind of place you have a "usual" and every time you have it, it's just as good as the last time. They staff is friendly and speedy so if you don't have a long lunch it's a great place to go.

They make one of the best coconut curries I have ever had. I love the hot plate chicken curry dish. The flavor is so tasty that I didn't need to add any of the chili sauce. I've been taking out and dining here for the last 7 yrs that I realized I owe them a review.

Their pho is actually at par with other popular places (like pho hoa), and I say better than others (Lemongrass, pho & bun). The only other one I like better is the one at 107ave and 111 street, but are now closed.

I ordered the grilled beef with veggies and rice. It wasn't the best meal I've had (I wouldn't order it again), but the other stuff my friends got was really good! The spring rolls are really tasty too, I recommend getting them as an appetizer.

Doan's is one of those places I just keep coming back to mostly because the service is great and it's very very fresh. It's a mix of mostly Vietnamese food with some Chinese food mixed in and I've been to both locations southside and downtown and both are quite similar.

I live right by Doan's so it is a regular of ours. They have the best fried rice I have ever had. It is fluffy, sweet, salty, and just delicious. While they don't have the greatest service, they do put a lot of effort into their food.

There are many good Vietnamese Restaurants in Edmonton, but this is my old standby -- the place I've been going to for years. Always busy during lunch and dinners at both locations. This is testament to it's popularity among Edmontonians.

Can't figure out why this place is popular

There are so many delicious mom and pop joints for Vietnamese in Edmonton that I can't figure out the appeal of this restaurant. The food doesn't seem that authentic to me, and it doesn't have that fresh, light feel you get in other Vietnamese restaurants.

Fast and Good

If you like Vietnamese food, you will love this place. The meals are great. They lack grease and go down well. The side orders, like spring rolls and salad rolls are great as well. I recommend the vermicelli bowls with the pork and spring rolls.

This place is located in the heart of downtown and is always packed duing lunch hours and dinners during the week.

Typical service you would expect from an Asian restaurant, however what they may lack in serivce, they make up for with delicious food that is always served fast!

Our family 'fall-back

We eat at the Southside location with our 2 girls (8 & 5) at least once a month. Whenever we say we are going out for supper, our girls shout "Doan's!". The food is always great, the servers are quick and polite. We have never been disappointed here.

Not only did the food suck, they charged me for 2 separate visits when I only went there once. When I got the bill on my visa I went in and they did not question it, just handed me the money like it was a normal thing.

i've been to this location a couple of times as well as the southside location. i have always enjoyed my meals. recent visit i ordered the wor wonton soup. the vegetables were cooked perfectly. still hard. the serving amount was huge. actually lasted me for 3 meals. i find their prices fare, service and atmosphere are good.

Well, it's probably unfair to rate this place the same way I would rate Vietnamese food in the Bay Area, but the five spice chicken was not good by any stretch of the imagination.

Bug in my food

There was a disgusting dead cricket in my food. I had only had 2 bites when I uncovered the bug and I called the waiter who went for a manager. The manager said I put the bug on my plate myself so I wouldn't have to pay. Very offensive attitude!

Spring rolls are great. The vermicelli, vegetables with/without meat with lemongrass sauce is delicious! The soups are amazing. Service is not bad considering a busy lunch service. Prices are a little high, but the ambience is quite pleasant. I would recommend this place for a sit-down work lunch place. Bring co-workers or clients here for a nice tasty lunch.
