Delicious food! Love the curry chicken soup and salad rolls are the best I have tasted, they also have great Kim Chee
I love Doan's. It's the kind of place you have a "usual" and every time you have it, it's just as good as the last time. They staff is friendly and speedy so if you don't have a long lunch it's a great place to go.
They make one of the best coconut curries I have ever had. I love the hot plate chicken curry dish. The flavor is so tasty that I didn't need to add any of the chili sauce. Nice big chunks of chicken breast that were cooked just perfectly. My girlfriend had the satay shrimp hot plate. Same thing, very tasty with nice big pieces of shrimp. I also love their Vietnamese Ice coffee. I have eaten... more
I've been taking out and dining here for the last 7 yrs that I realized I owe them a review.
Their pho is actually at par with other popular places (like pho hoa), and I say better than others (Lemongrass, pho & bun). The only other one I like better is the one at 107ave and 111 street, but are now closed.
Salad Rolls are the best! One full order to go for me is one healthy, filling lunch!...

Food was very good here. The salad rolls especially exceptional. Pho was decent as well. I did find the price a bit more than comparable places.
I though the service was very good. And was surprised with the syrup dispenser of fish sauce. Is there that much demand for the stuff? Just looked strange.
Would go back for a more detailed review. It suited my needs very well and I was pleased....

I ordered the grilled beef with veggies and rice. It wasn't the best meal I've had (I wouldn't order it again), but the other stuff my friends got was really good! The spring rolls are really tasty too, I recommend getting them as an appetizer.
Overall, a pretty good experience. Clean restaurant setup and good food!
I went here when I was outrageously hungry and I had to wait ages for my food to come. It was 5 minutes before a waiter even came to ask about drinks, another 15 before they took our orders. The food took forever to come and on top of that they messed up my order. I asked for chicken instead of pork and they still gave me pork and no one came around to ask how the meal was so after 10 minutes... more
Ordered green tea and spicy soup. After 10 min I had to remind them that I still waiting for my tea.
The soup arrived (beef and pork)
And was acceptable but could not eat the beef and left it in the bowl.
There was more fat then beef and it would advisable not to serve this type of meat to...

I did not even know this place existed until my mom wanted to meet me there for lunch. Imagine that, my mother knows more about places to dine downtown than I do! Anyways I came here for lunch and it wasn't busy when I showed up but boy did it get busy as the lunch hour ticked on. The plates here are HUGE, my mom and I most definitely should have split one. The food is pretty good, lots of... more
I knew Doan's when they were in Chinatown and the place was flaming! Not with vibrant colors and men looking more prettier than me! I mean flaming as in fire fighters and smoke and crispiness!
Two locations: Southside off Whyte and Downtown on 107 Street.
Great food, little pricey when you are looking for Vietnamese food compared to other restaurants however cleaner, fast service, great...

Doan's is one of those places I just keep coming back to mostly because the service is great and it's very very fresh. It's a mix of mostly Vietnamese food with some Chinese food mixed in and I've been to both locations southside and downtown and both are quite similar.
If you looking for some awesome pho as well as some traditional Vietnamese vermicelli dishes this is definitely the place.

I live right by Doan's so it is a regular of ours. They have the best fried rice I have ever had. It is fluffy, sweet, salty, and just delicious. While they don't have the greatest service, they do put a lot of effort into their food.
This restaurant has rarely let me down in the past, but a recent less than acceptable experience needs to be reported. The dishes were all quite unremarkable, with some verging on poor, such as a noodle dish where the noodles were completely gummed up in a not to be untangled ball, and a mixed vegetable dish that seemed to present... more
There are many good Vietnamese Restaurants in Edmonton, but this is my old standby -- the place I've been going to for years. Always busy during lunch and dinners at both locations. This is testament to it's popularity among Edmontonians.
There are so many delicious mom and pop joints for Vietnamese in Edmonton that I can't figure out the appeal of this restaurant. The food doesn't seem that authentic to me, and it doesn't have that fresh, light feel you get in other Vietnamese restaurants.
A friend and I went for dinner to Doan's last night. When we walked in... about 7:30 pm, there were very few diners... on a Friday night, when other restaurants are jammed with waiting lines... that should have been a tip off! After the 2 min warm welcome, the evening went downhill.
My friend ordered a vermicelli bowl that was...

I went to Doan's today for lunch with a group of 7 other people. We ordered a reasonably large selection of items off of the menu and most of it was so-so. The soups took forever to come out, which I didn't understand at all, and although they had an ok beer selection, paying more than $6 for a Tsingtao... more
Chicken curry soup, a hearty and soul warming lunch on a cold day. To eat in or to go. Wish they had delivery too... more
This place is very reasonably priced and selection great Fresh food I love the noodle dishes Come out full everytime.. A couple times very busy on Thursday evening.
If you like Vietnamese food, you will love this place. The meals are great. They lack grease and go down well. The side orders, like spring rolls and salad rolls are great as well. I recommend the vermicelli bowls with the pork and spring rolls.
Friendly staff and a good variety of oriental dishes. Super place for a reasonably priced lunch. Try one of the noodle bowls
As others have said, it's nothing special. It's not so bad that I would never come again, but it's not so good that I would specifically come here to eat. I ate there recently with a friend because she suggested it.
I had the spicy vietnamese noodle soup (bun bo hue). It's not that spicy at all - there's some red chili oil floating at the top but that was it. I could taste the lemongrass but it...

This place is located in the heart of downtown and is always packed duing lunch hours and dinners during the week.
Typical service you would expect from an Asian restaurant, however what they may lack in serivce, they make up for with delicious food that is always served fast!
Great for take out too! My favourite dish is by far, the bun ba mau!!!!
We eat at the Southside location with our 2 girls (8 & 5) at least once a month. Whenever we say we are going out for supper, our girls shout "Doan's!". The food is always great, the servers are quick and polite. We have never been disappointed here.
Food is good at Doan's, you can't go wrong with it.
Arrived at 11:30, sat until after 12 to have my order taken and no food until 12:45. NEVER NEVER NEVER will they see me again.
excellent food, large servings, fresh, hot and tasty with great vietnamese coffee
Both locations offer the 'Traditional Vietnamese Soup' which is a delightful blend of vegetables plus pineapple and your choice of chicken, etc in a light lean broth. There are no noodles in this soup! If you want a delicious LEAN meal this is like a meal in itself. Also try their carmelized pork chop. Absolutely full of flavor and very... more
Not only did the food suck, they charged me for 2 separate visits when I only went there once. When I got the bill on my visa I went in and they did not question it, just handed me the money like it was a normal thing.
Expensive and service was slow as was getting the food. I think there are better asian restaurants in Edmonton that serve similar food. Overrated.
i've been to this location a couple of times as well as the southside location. i have always enjoyed my meals. recent visit i ordered the wor wonton soup. the vegetables were cooked perfectly. still hard. the serving amount was huge. actually lasted me for 3 meals. i find their prices fare, service and atmosphere are good.
Well, it's probably unfair to rate this place the same way I would rate Vietnamese food in the Bay Area, but the five spice chicken was not good by any stretch of the imagination.
The flavor was overly salty an they dump the saucy chicken over the rice so you just cannot escape the bombardment of salt in your taste buds.
It gets really crowded during lunch, so if you can call in your order or...

Doans is in a great location that makes it easy for business lunches. It gets busy though, so I recommend making a reservation. We arrived for our noon reservation and were seated in a booth. I ordered my regular vermicilli bowl and this time with the grilled beef for $9.45. The beef was a bit oily and wasn't that tasty, and it was laid upon a bed of noodles. Along the side was lettuce,... more
There was a disgusting dead cricket in my food. I had only had 2 bites when I uncovered the bug and I called the waiter who went for a manager. The manager said I put the bug on my plate myself so I wouldn't have to pay. Very offensive attitude!
Spring rolls are great. The vermicelli, vegetables with/without meat with lemongrass sauce is delicious! The soups are amazing. Service is not bad considering a busy lunch service. Prices are a little high, but the ambience is quite pleasant. I would recommend this place for a sit-down work lunch place. Bring co-workers or clients here for a nice tasty lunch.
I really don't know what everyone is complaining about. The service can get quite slow during work lunch hours, but every good place does. The vermicelli bowl with spring rolls, grilled pork and chicken is SO GOOD!! I crave it all the time.
The waitresses aren't very friendly, but i'm too busy getting excited about my food to arrive for...

I asked for a Pho that had seafood instead of the standard meats. In my opinion, the best salad rolls and spicy vietnamese soup in Edmonton! Can't get enough of it. Staff are polite and service is prompt.
These guys are the Denny's of Vietnamese food.
If you are looking for good Vietnamese food, this is not the place you go. This is the place you would go out of convenience or lack of options.
They have small portions at high prices. They front an image of being a high class, Vietnamese restaurant but if you have had real, true Vietnamese food, you should see right through the facade.

The food at Doan's is mediocre. It is not bad, it just lacks pizazz as one of the previous reviewers have mentioned. The restaurant itself has a nice location and modest yet pretty décor. The walls are taupe, the light is in abundance, and the seating is comfortable. From the outside, Doan's looks rather upscale but apparently looks are deceiving. Not only is Doan's not upscale, it is one of... more
I want to like Doan's... I come here fairly often on business and it is handy to the hotel and I love Vietnamese. Problem is the last couple times I've managed to get served (story below) my typical vermicelli beef dish has been bland and lacking in... well.. ingredients....
The sauce was bland, there was nothing for veggies but cut up lettuce (had to ask for something else) and the beef was.....

My grandson requested Hoisin sauce to put on the meat wrap.

Spring WAS here. Until the wind blew back winter and tossed in a nice little dump of snow. What more perfect of a setting for some warm vietnamese soup?

The first time I went to Doan's I was doing a story and review for a local publication and the owner brought me a giant spread of his favourite dishes to try. This is good Vietnamese food; not the best I've had, but not the worst. I'd put them above average. It's casual dining, with efforts toward class. Whether you're in the mood for a spicy stir-fry, deep-fried spring rolls or seafood or... more
Soup....vietnamese noodle soup...ok they do have more than just soup. They have sald rolls and spring rolls and other vietnamese dishes. Now i haven't really sat in this restaurant as i always order out during my lunch breaks at work. i just preorder with the take home menus and pick it up at a set time...
I really enjoy the soup, but I'm more of the adventurous type, the type meat toppings...

Decent Vietnamese, but nothing that really stands out.
Try the rice wraps and the coffee...AMAZING. Prices went up and are a little high.
this is my second choice for vietnamese food
Very good vietnamese cuisine, great value for price & comfortable clean atmosphere.
Love the satay rice noodle soup with chicken
I like this place a lot have not been in awhile. Love those coffees
Plate after plate of flavourful food!
Wonderful service every time !!
they cater to a white crowd and have lost what they once had.. once i mean over 10 years ago they were good.. now they suck
Great Vermicelli, my fave place for takeout
Nice pho on Calgary Tr, still looking for killer Vietnamese in town. 2007
Great place for Pho. Fast service. Nice relaxing music. Very good prices.
High prices, small portions, ordinary food.
Friendly good service. Always enjoy the food!
Good Vietnamese, but has slipped a bit in the last little while.
I get horrible service at Doans but I come back for their chicken curry soup.
great kim chi! really enjoyed the food!
