Didier is a classic French restaurant on Yonge St. north of St. Clair led by Chef Didier Leroy - who a few months ago was awarded France's Medal of the Chevalier de l'Ordre du Merite Agricole for carrying on the French Culinary Tradition in Canada.During my visit to Didier on a cold and gloomy winter night, the warmth of a grand dining room with ornate wood paneling, soft lighting and crisp... more

All three of us couldn’t get enough of the restaurants signature steak tartare which our waitress mentioned many people drive from near and afar to indulge.

The escargot is excellent, so is the medium rare flat iron steak. The steak tartare was pretty good, but they forgot the frites. A pile of raw steak with no sides is a little daunting. The sea bass was minuscule and smothered in a puddle of cream sauce that totally overwhelmed it. Not a pleasing dish at all. It came with sliced cherry tomatoes- tomato and fish don't compliment each other. I... more

My girlfriend and I went to Didier as part of the summerlicious program. Atmosphere was fine and the decor was nice. Service was great and we were seated and attended to promptly. Our orders came out in good time, though i suspect it was because of the summerlicious prix fix deal (this is not a complaint!). All in all, a good experience. We'll probably go back to sample some more french dishes.

You know when you read negative reviews about a critically acclaimed restaurant and think 'It can't be THAT bad'?

Didier was the most insulting restaurant experience I have ever had the misfortune of having.

You know when you read negative reviews about a critically acclaimed restaurant and think ‘well they must have been having an off night’ or ‘The service can’t be THAT bad’?

Well tonight I learned to listen to them.

Didier was the most insulting restaurant experience I have ever had the misfortune of having.

The long story short – we waited 40+ minutes for someone to even take our order, were... more

The restaurant is lovely. It was a Saturday night but it was only half full. Which suited us just fine as we had a little alcove to ourselves. I'd read some reviews stating really bad service but for us it was impeccable. From Didier himself greeting us at the door to All the wait staff, friendly, prompt & knowledgeable. We started off with 2 glasses of Cuvée Catherine which I highly recommend.... more

With some laughter, it appears that I wasn't the only person who found the Manager/Co-Owner to have a "hospitality" problem. The positives: Food was delicious, other staff are pleasant. The negatives:- Service was slow (far too slow for lunch)- It took a long time to have someone take our order. Eventually, the Manager/Co-Owner drops by with a pad and pencil and, with a "common now" attitude,... more

Hands down the best French restaurant in the city. The service is excellent and for the quality of food you're receiving the price is fantastic. Make sure and try the oeufs en cocotte Diane, it's a special treat you won't find anywhere else.

Anyone who doesn't like this restaurant doesnt like authentic French Food. Didier won a very prestigious award only given to the top French chef's keeping the tradition of cooking real French food. For an elegant night out one to savour and enjoy amazing food I highly recommend this restaurant.

I was surprised to read all the negative reviews regarding Didier's service. I went there for a Summerlicious lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the seemingly simple dishes that pack a delightful depth of flavours. Has been a little while but on our night ee had a great time. Exceptional service and food. We were a party of 6 and after sampling everyone elses meals (we all ordered different dishes) only one dessert was less than desirable. Worth checking out this restaurant for the food experience.

Finest traditional French in Toronto. Chef Didier is classically trained. The upside: you get French food as envisioned by their creators. The downside: Didier will not compromise; if you don't want it his way, go elsewhere!Had dinner last night and dine there regularly. The new menu is a welcome upgrade. I had the oeff cocottes to start, beef Rossini main course and soufflé. As usual a... more

So... maybe I am of the ignorant masses, but I HATE a runny omelet. It makes my tongue and throat itch. It feels nasty in my mouth. It looks nasty on the plate. Is that authentic French preparation? If it is, I don't like it. I like my eggs puffy.I like veggies. I do not like, however, raw green beans in my omelet, whether runny, fluffy, or otherwise. The service is stuffy but impeccable. This restaurant is terrible and I would never recommend it. They have really unethical billing practices. My husband booked the restaurant for our anniversary dinner. Didier Restaurant is one of my very-favorites. Oooh-lala! Gorgeous French food, carefully, lovingly prepared by super-accomplished Chef Didier Leroy, for a low price. It's neither intimidating the way French food can be, nor is the resto itself pretentious. Quite the opposite. My first visit this past summer, I enjoyed the super-great value of Didier's prix fixe. My friends and I were greatly looking forward to our Summerlicious dining experience at Didier since we LOVE French cuisine. We had made a reservation for 4 but last minute there was only 3 of us. We figured that a party of 3 would be seated at a table for 4 anyways, so we did not believe this minor change would be significant, however; that would not be the case. Once we arrived, the decor and... more

Yesterday evening my husband and I went to Didier's to celebrate my birthday. This was our first time going to this restaurant and it was supposed to be a treat. Example, at the next table, a party of 3 finished their meal and asked... more

4 of us went for dinner last night for Summerlicious. The gentelman who took our cocktail and wine order was very friendly and engaging. Must be the same women the other critic had (read review below). The... more

Each and every time I dine at Didier I ask myself why I have left it so long to return. Didier takes such care with each and every dish and perfection is his sole aim. His gorgeous cooking and impeccable service has truly ruined fine dining for me because I find that no-one can match the standard I experience when I indulge there.
