Warmth and comfort come together in this small, simple bistro, both in lovely touches, such as cookies made-to-order (what could be more warming?), and in the satisfying Cuban-inspired French-bistro cuisine that is the creation of chef/owner Corinna Mozo. Evocative of a quaint little restaurant you might wander into in Cuba, Delux on Ossington delivers the look, feel and taste of Cuba in the heart of Little Italy. Small, but tastefully decorated with white-washed brick walls, homey linen napkins and beautifully presented food, Delux is worth a visit. This Cuban eatery is next door to the Lower Ossington Theatre. It has a fairly limited menu, but the food was excellent. We started with Corn Cakes appetizer which we shared. - Steak Frites: the steak was good, but i wouldn't call it the top 5 steak in TO. Good fries...but maybe a little too much

Overall, reasonable prices, yummy meal.

Telus Tuesday Specials Restaurant #2

I wish Delux will keep its Cuban flare for their dinner menu... I tried really hard to find anything remotely Cuban... aside from the Pressed cubano Sandwich....

I asked my waiter which items on their menu that is close to Cuban cuisine... and he went hmmmmmm ... and said just try the chicken.. since the chef used Achiote and lime as marinade....

Been for lunch and brunch. Both times was pleasantly surprised by how good the food is(sandwiches are to die for), not to mention the awesome decor and vibe. You might have to wait a little for a table, but totally worth it!

Use to go there all the time even if service was uneven and not as tight as i would've liked it cuz the food is delicious. But service really sucks lately. I could take that room by myself with one good runner. Too bad. Will stiil go for the food, just not as often..

Hot Fresh Cookies baked to order!
March 27, 2011

If you're looking for a trendy, urban bistro in King West that offers delicious food, then Delux is the place for you. The food they serve is supposed to be a fusion of Cuban and French cuisine but I felt that it was more French than Cuban. Price range is: Appetizers $10-$15, Mains $17-$24 and Desserts $7-$15. We were there with friends and tried the 6 Oysters, Assiette Charcuterie, and the... more

Got the cubano lunch combo.

14$ for fries, a coke, and a sandwich. Sort of steep for what you get - but the restaurant decor is nice enough to command that price I guess.

The sandwich was OK. A pressed panini with porcetta, ham, some mustard, and cheese. Didn't wow me. Fries were nicely salted and fresh, though.

Totally empty @ mid-week lunch. Cool design inside, comfortable booths (although... more

We paid a return visit to Delux and it was even better than the first time. We have a more elaborate review with photos at our blog:

We arrived at 6 to an empty restaurant without reservations. We were surprised they had to "find a table" as the place was completely empty but understood after we saw how full the place got. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and personable without being intrusive. The food was also excellent. Terrible experience
January 28, 2011

The food is very good at Delux, but if they put you in the back room you won't be able to enjoy one moment of your experience. The room is a noisy box with zero atmosphere. You can't hear the waiter or the person you are dining with. To make matters worse, I specifically asked for the front room when I reserved and was then stuffed in the back room in a tiny corner after being told that "we... more

A little known fact about me may just be that I have an obsession with tomatoes. They are always on the grocery list, they are the one thing I'd choose over all others if I had to pick one food item to live on for the rest of my life, they fit into my daily diet - breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack - they're my food soul mate.

And right now, Delux wins the top prize for favourite tomato sandwich:... more

All I have to say is this --BRUNCH. Only on Sundays.

I've never tried their dinner or lunch, but maaaaaan is their brunch ever tasty. You must try the fritters before your meal. I've only ever had the chorizo with egg accompanied by these delicious little flattened plantain pancake looking crisps you eat with your eggs. Enjoy!

Strolled into Delux on a lazy Saturday afternoon around 2pm. The place was mostly empty so we grabbed a quiet corner booth. Loathe as I am to use a word like "chill" this place does have a chill vibe, with slate grey booths, whitewashed walls, and ashen hardwood floors. The natural light courtesy the Ossington-facing window does much to illuminate this marvellous but small space. Well placed... more

Forgot I went here in the summer. Had two dishes.

Duck confit picadillo hash:
The hash needed more duck. I shouldn't have to search my plate for it. There were a small amount of fresh veggies on the side of the plate that felt like an afterthought. They didn't ask me how I wanted my eggs and they overcooked the sunny side up ones they gave me by a bit. Tostones felt overly oily. Just a lot of... more

Delux has time and time again surprised me with their consistently great food. Every dish, from their salad, grilled trout and lamb sausage were flawless. For a restaurant that marks itself as Cuban, the menu isn't a very good indicator that they're attempting to create anything other than hautely prepared french bistro-country food. The dishes were all texturally and visually delicious, but lacked in flavor.

Happily, Delux has managed to survive the inflated hype and clientele that plagued the Ossington strip for several years. It now imparts more of a neighbourhood feel; save weekends, we often walk in without a reservation and tend to not have problems getting a table.
