large portions, big open restaurant, yet maintained a nice atmosphere, more than just a burger joint--upscale
The burger was drip down your elbow good. The view of the Bay was awesome - we were lucky to be on the deck, but under covering from sun. The museum was also free and showed great community spirit. Fun time.
Me and my boyfriend ordered 2 burgers with fries. It was good, but not excellent (the fries were the best part). We were the only people in the restaurant at dinnertime, but the staff was great. We have yet to give it another try, but we will and hopefully the food will be a bit better.
We've been to Cowichan Bay many times, but this was our first time to the Cow Café. It for sure will not be our last. The waitress was very pleasant and personable. She apologized for the slowness of the food, but we hadn't even noticed - we were sitting on the deck in the sunshine, with a great view of... more
This was our first time at the Cow Cafe and was pleasantly surprised. The decor isn't that great but has a large menu, the food was plentiful and very tasty. Our waitress (Tyra) made our visit a good one. She was very friendly and answered all of our questions about the Lake Cowichan area. Thanks Tyra....we will be back.
We were interested to try a new-to-us place for lunch in Lake Cowichan, hoping for a surprise in the Cow Cafe. Unfortunately, we found it OK, but generally a bit disappointing. The food was average and painted cement block walls said it all. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and keen to please.
The Cow Cafe has a varied menu and monthly specials that are worth going for. We send our clients here for dinners and they are always satisfied.
We have been disapointed several times at the Cow as have many others and we will not be going back. Too bad as it used to be very good a few years ago.
This little café should not be overlooked. The food was inventive and tasty. The serving staff were friendly and attentive. Clearly, the chef is turning out a first class meal in a pub format. The Calamari Diablo was an excellent spin on the classic calamari dish with pepper and onions. Portions are large and Thursday night is two for 1... more
I look forward to short trips off my island retreat and as Cowachin Bay is not too far it is a quick and rewarding mini trip. Cow Cafe has a small and cozy atmosphere and GREAT homemade food. It is definitely something to look forward too.
We come here often for the great food. It's fresh, seasonal, and delicious. There are always good specials going such as Ribtober fest. Whenever we have people visiting, we bring them here.
Despite the name, the food was very good and large proportions. Would definitely recommend. Across the street from the restaurant is a large parking lot (not very often full except sometimes in the summer from what I understand) and then the lake; so as long as the parking lot is not full you have a very nice scenic view so... more
The right place for a beer and burger. Good ambiance and just was we had wanted and expected. No surprises,
Food is consistently good, great variety and reasonably priced., Its within walking distance to our B&B along the Lake shore what more could you ask.
We were very happy to discover that the Cow Cafe was open on a Sunday night in Lake Cowichan.
My first impression was "sticky"...the fake naugahyde felt sticky, the menus when they came looked like they could use an overhaul, but I chalked it up to it being the end of a busy summer.
Our server was very friendly and...

Went here for supper - had the Cow Classic Burger with a green salad side. The burger was great, but the salad was fantastic. Most restaurants have a very simple green side salad, but this one had microgreens and other (delicious) add-ins I couldn't identify. The balsamic vinegrette dressing was fantastic. Good value for the price and not your typical... more
Im not sure about the comment below because we go quite often and they have at least 4 kinds of wine each of the red and white selection..
We were back @ the lake with my father for a few days of rest and relaxation and visited a few restaurants while we were there. Was the hubby's birthday and decided to go back to the Cow Cafe for dinner. Hubby and dad had ribs, and they both agreed that once again, the Cow Cafe delivered nice, tender, fall... more
My family and I love going to the Cow Cafe Love the perfectly cooked steaks and fall off the bone baby back ribs.. The service is always great too!
Great portion sizes and decent quality for a small town, especially in low season (winter). Good ambiance with neighbourhood pub feel. Friendly staff.
We stopped for lunch during a recent trip to Cowichan Lake. The soup I ordered was delicious. My husbands sandwich was also delicious. After we had eaten the server was helping us find out where local places were and was very helpful and friendly. We would go back again.
My self, my husband, and my 7 year old went here on the recommendation of the front desk clerk at the hotel when we asked where we could get a good burger. After looking at the menu, no one had burgers!
The servers were extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the specials for the day. And I really appreciated that...
