The Courtyard by Marriott Halifax Downtown is within walking distance to the waterfront, convention centre, Metro Centre and entertainment. Accommodations feature spacious rooms, indoor pool, fitness
I have stayed at this hotel twice - once during the off season, and once in September, which is still high season. The two experiences couldn't have been more different.
The first stay was excellent all around. We booked via their website. When we arrived, we were upgraded to a better room, and we were given free breakfast and parking. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to serve us.
The second stay was a nightmare. We booked on the phone and the representative made a huge mistake - he only booked us in one room instead of two (there were five of us staying originally). When we arrived, we spoke to the front desk staff. They gave us a key for one room. We asked about our second room and she said we didn't book one... not that there was an error or something along those lines - that WE didn't book one.
We assured her we did, and we told her the person's name we dealt with and so forth. She said "Well, I don't know who that guy is - he's in a call centre somewhere. And either way, you didn't book two rooms. Check your e-mail confirmation."
The e-mail confirmation had just come through to my friend's Blackberry and it was for the one room only. We understood there was a mix-up, but the entire time the front desk representative blamed us and was incredibly rude about the whole thing.
They offered us nothing. No free parking, no free food, etc. She claimed there were absolutely no other rooms available, and that we'd have to make do.
Luckily, two of the guys stayed with friends, and I had a friend drop off an air mattress. So I paid nearly $100 to sleep on an air mattress.
Everyone we dealt with that night was rude and not helpful.
Luckily, the staff in the morning were pleasant and helpful.
Not sure I'll stay there again though. Also, there is nowhere on their website to send feedback.... ?
Great downtown hotel right next door to the Halifax Market. Staff was helpful and friendly. Will definitely stay there again!
Wonderful rooms in the heart of old Halifax. First choice for a Halifax stay.

Very nice hotel! The staff were helpful and I truly enjoyed my visit to the spa. The only downside of my visit was that when I went to get a take out meal from the Bistro, they actually gave me a plate with cutlery to carry to my room, which was somewhat uncomfortable. Take out containers would have been much better. Also, more information on room service options would have also been helpful.
For the price of the hotel I expected more. Thought the price was high and we were overcharged on our credit card. Not a great experience . Will choose another hotel next time.
Excellent staff and service room oversized so lots of space plus we got a balcony which was a bonus. Will definitely stay here again.
we loved our stay and the service was excellent
Everything was perfect. Hotel is close to many good restaurants and Entertainment. Good service, clean rooms. Only downside is no breakfast included and parking fees.
Broken hooks on black-out curtains made for a challenging night's rest.
We chose this hotel to experience downtown Halifax. We were quite close to the waterfront and within walking distance of some great restaurants and shops. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the valet service for our car rental was worth every penny. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Excellent stay, perfect location! Really close to everything downtown, with a great staff and convenient services in the lobby.
Had an excellent stay with very helpful staff. The hotel had a great home with a fire place and books. Was close to all downtown stores and sites. Highly recommended.
Very comfortable hotel close to the Halifax waterfront. Walkable access to most downtown attractions. Mandatory valet parking, but the staff was great at taking care of our car. Worth the $19.50 per day.
Courtyard functionality for business meetings and relaxing is superb!
This was a great place for self-guided walking tours of downtown Halifax. We enjoyed proximity to the harbor, historic sites, and great food. The hotel was wonderful and the staff were great.
The hotel is beautiful, clean, and comfortable, but it is a hassle with all the downtown traffic and valet parking and no complimentary breakfast with the premium price you pay for an expensive hotel.
Wonderfully accommodating staff. Clean, bright, comfortable rooms.
It was perfect position close to the waterfront the room was great loved it
A very good location and the hotel was perfect for a long 5 day long weekend.
The room was like going back to the 90's. There was black mold along edge of tub. There was no ppv movies. White plastic patio furniture that was very wobbly. Pool was very dirty and murky, jets in hot tub didn't work.
Could walk to restaurants, tourist spots and even Dalhousie. Nice room and lobby. Really enjoyed the roof too deck during the day and the evening too! Only 2 complaints - 1) linens - very skimpy - can't imagine what it would be like in winter. 2) shampoo etc in tiny awful bottles - couldn't even get it out of the bottle.
Perfect location, very pretty hotel. Outside terrasse has a great view over the harbour.
great staff...friendly atmosphere and a great view of the harbour. We would return.
On a 2 night stay, no one came to clean our room all day. We came back to find it still unmade and not refreshed. We spoke to a housekeeper in the hall and she contacted the front desk. They sent someone up after we went out for dinner. Really shouldn't have had to call anyone.
This hotel was excellent in every way. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The facilities were A1. We were made to feel very welcome. We would stay there again without question.
Loved the full breakfast cafe and Starbucks in the lobby. Very efficient staff.
We stayed on the 7 th floor. The roof top patio is on the eight floor which for us was convenient. The view from the room and patio was awesome. The room was comfortable and seemed larger than most. Over all the room seemed clean but I did have to ask them to change the shower curtain as it was well used and dirty. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. They gave us alot of good... more
Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was an excellent place to explore Halifax. Everything you'd need is within walking distance, and the hotel itself was clean and comfortable with great staff. I would absolutely stay here again.
Our room was near the elevator and we heard people all night long as well as early in the morning. We had a "terrace" that was actually below a ramp to a parking garage....it was blocked, dirty and weird. The drapes were wrinkled, the furniture didn't fit the room, the wands on the drapes were bent?...it was just icky all over. We were visiting family with others and there rooms were a little... more
Staff was always friendly, polite, accommodating and happy. We got great recommendations on restuarants, shops and even where to get the best views for the parade! It was our first time in Nova Scotia and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. I have already receommended this hotel to others.
Beautiful rooms, friendly staff. Apparently I have to write more even though I hate being bothered it's this nonsense. How's this?
We stayed 3 nights while enjoying the area. All of our party were happy with the hotel.
We've stayed in this hotel before and love its location and the staff. Courtyard is a good brand, and we know we can count on a certain level of comfort--especially a comfortable bed. This time, however, our bed sagged, really sagged. Sagged so badly that it was uncomfortable. And, on top of that, the sheets were thin and limp. Certainly now what we expect from Courtyard. I mentioned the bed to... more
The Courtyard in Halifax is a very nice place to stay, although other hotels we have stayed at offered cookies & coffee thru out the day or at least at check-in. The staff was very helpful and the location was very good. We did not care the cost of parking the car though.
Very friendly staff. Take the time to greet you when you come through the doors. Clean and great location.
Great experience! Hotel staff was very helpful, and friendly. Great location.
Hotel staff went over and above in their service to us. Always willing to help and accommodating. Staff so helpful in giving directions to Halifax Doors Open. All the staff where very professional. The two ladies that moved from Ontario to Halifax, working the front desk, and the African Canadian valet always made us feel special. We will definitely recommend the Courtyard by Marriott as the... more
Only stayed 1 night for a show at the Casino, but the staff were friendly and the room was very clean, would stay again, within walking distance to everything.
Great hotel, welcoming staff, centrally located and within walking distance to all the wonderful things to do in Halifax. We had a harbor view room allowing us to enjoy the beautiful lights at night as well as the bustling beach walk during the day. We will definitely return.
It seems that this hotel is a favorite for parents with young kids and hockey teams. So it was a little noisy at times and you really couldn't use the pool / hot-tub. When I did go to look at the pool the water seemed a little cloudy, so I don't know if that's from the kids or something wrong with the filters etc. The gym has limited equipment, but fortunately there are some free weights up to... more
Easy walking distance to all that Halifax has to offer. Large, spacious room, huge bathroom. Friendly & helpful staff, good place to stay in my opinion!!
Location and staff were amazing at the hotel. Newly renovated area is also very nice.
Only item that I dislike is the tiny gym with only two threadmills. It was always busy and never got a chance. I think a hotel of this size should have a real size training room!
we were pleasantly surprised at the new renovations at this hotel. When we booked it the web site did not indicate they were renovating. I don't think anyone had actually stayed in the room we did before.
The location is good, easy to get to from the highway. You can park your car (valet underground only $19/day) and walk anywhere...

I stayed at the Courtyard for a week in May and the wonderful staff, especially Stephanie and Bee made me feel at home. Great hotel, located conveniently downtown. Our kids enjoyed the restaurant ( my 7 year old picky eater, loved the chicken wings) The chef personally served the food to our kids!
The room was spacious and clean, with a great shower.
Valet parking was quick and courteous.
I've stayed there several times with my family and would recommend it to anyone.
When staying at this hotel I found it to be Amazing the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Always asking if you need anything and making your visit as if it was like home.... I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Not to mention the rooms are beautiful with an amazing view
I recently stayed at the Courtyard by Mirrott located in downtown Hailfax on the waterfront. What a beautiful hotel. Great location within walking distance to all downtown attractions. She had us covered with everything we could possibly need for... more
This is a well located hotel near many good restaurants, and the boardwalk/water. The hotel is medium size and middle of the road (the "Courtyard" brand after all)). Wow! I stayed here last weekend for my anniversary and it couldn't have been better. The hotel was right in the middle of downtown so we just left the car there and walked for the weekend. Good easy check in, valet parking, central location. We had a harbour view King room with balcony. Noted that it appears that it has had some recent... more
Great Hotel close to the shops and dining on the waterfront. Staff were excellent and very friendly especially Charlynn! I was there on business so it was nice to be able to walk on the boardwalk during lunch break and in the evening. I would definitely stay there again.
Our family stayed at this hotel for two nights and were very impressed with this hotel. Excellent!! The Courtyard Halifax Downtown was Awesome!!! Staff was professional, knowledgeable, courteous, patient and very accommodating not to mention the smiles and cheerfulness (thank you), location was great and services perfect. (loved the valet parking). Room was impeccably clean. Looking forward to my next stay!
Staff was very courteous and helpful. Room was great, clean, spacious. Really appreciated the laundry facilities!
The rooms are big, the hotel is modern and it's walking distance to everything. Starbucks in the lobby! Just a great overall experience. Front desk and cleaning staff are very friendly.
We stayed 3 nights. Everything about the hotel was fine, until my wife found the some jewely was missing from a drawer where she had hid it in some clothing. We reported it at leaving but they called and said the room search had found nothing. BAD feelings about this hotel to return.
Good location, room is standard, nothing extraordinary. Paying more for location versus quality of accomodation. Great staff.
Even on the rainy, windy days a cup of coffee and the view of Lower Water Street and the harbour was a treat. We could always get a good breakfast at the Bistro to start our day. And Starbucks makes a great latte. I would definitely come back to this hotel. Thank you to the front desk staff who started our days off with a pleasant smile and a ready response to any questions we may ask.
I spent only two nights at the Courtyard Marriott but left with no complaints. Comfortable room, pleasant efficient service at the desk, from the housekeeper and the valet.Close to bars and restaurants on the waterfront. I'd stay again with no second thoughts.
We were pleasantly surprised at the recent upgrades to the Courtyard Marriott. The lobby looks great. Our only complaint was lack of luggage racks in the rooms. We could only get one and needed 3. Also, there seemed to be a shortage of staff to help with luggage etc.
The hotel was just renovated, nice surprise. Staff were excellent, beautiful roof top patio overlooking the bay. Close to everything you need.
The courtyard Halifax downtown was amazing. Newly renovated lobby was a great area to learn about Halifax's attractions. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to suggest restaurants and sites to see. Great location, can't wait to go back! A+++
Very friendly and obliging staff. Free WiFi. Pool is small but it's fine unless a bunch of people jump in at once. Room was beautiful with a nice balcony in room 311. Everything was clean. Great location. Expensive valet parking but we got a package to include it which is why we tried this hotel. Glad we did!
Thank you to Sarah, at the Front Desk, and Patrick, our Valet, for the outstanding attention paid to us. I will come here again and highly recommend the Courtyard to our friends. What a fabulous place to stay in Halifax!
This place has a great location. Close to water, some views from the room, easy to walk to anywhere in town. Modern Room was spacious clean, well set up. Lots of window. Bed comfortable. Wifi worked great Staff helpful.
Would stay here again.
We were only here for 1 night, arriving around 7PM and leaving around 8AM so not a long stay. However, we were happy with our stay. There was always a dedicated member of the team for any requirements I had throughout the day. If you need a meeting room in Halifax there is no better place.
Great location for the price. Best rating to the wonderful staff, great front desk staff. The only upgrade the Hotel needs I my opinion is TV and better pillows.
I came to Halifax for a Thursday night stay, and then the following Sunday-Thursday - and decided on the Marriott, because of it's location to my place of business - and it did not dissappoint.

This has been my go-to for staying downtown in Halifax. Ideally located, waterfront views, tons of space in deluxe suites, good service.
“Service was excellent the staff friendly ,had valet service for my car.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast servers were excellent.
“Would definitely stay here again. Hotel staff were friendly and courteous. Will be recommending this place to friends and family.”
“Great downtown location in Halifax. Clean and has comfortable beds.”

“Beautiful hotel, great patio's, enjoyed them during the day and at night. Very friendly staff willing to go the extra mile for your happiness. Very pleased overall.”
“Hotel has one of the best locals in Halifax waterfront. Staff was friendly and helpful, building appears relatively new some kinks need working out
elevator, hot tub.”
The hotel was in a great location near the waterfront and at the bottom of the hill the city is based on. It's close to many things so walking is not a problem. “A well stated hotel with upscale location and view. Beautiful local restaurants, and ease of use for parking and quick walk to downtown core. Minimal decor well placed to express the rooms style. Staff opened and knowledgeable, yet not overbearing.”
“The decor inside the room was modern but the color palette and choice of fabrics were better suited to a casino. The front of house staff was not welcoming or particularly helpful. No one helped us with our bags and the front of house staff did not explain any of the hotel amenities (that is, room service, breakfast options, etc).”
“Incredible stay. Friendly and accomodating staff. Lovely new rooms.”
“I have stayed in many hotels over my adult lifetime. Never have I had to pay for parking. Even in a one star hotel (wich I have also sated in) I was also charged $6.00 CDN for my continental breakfastwich consisted of a strawberry and 3 peices of pineapple.”
This hotel was great, including its location. My only gripe was that I asked at the desk if the business center printer was hooked up, had paper and was operating. I was told yes but no one checked. Then when I tried to print out sensitive information it didn't work, staff couldn't get it to work and I worried that it was in memory and would print out later after I had left the hotel.
“A lovely hotel in a great location, that is suitable for families and singles. A wonderful place to explore the city from and pleasant rooms that offer the amenities needed in a stylish way. Very restful! I especially liked the airflow.”
“Overall I really enjoyed my stay. The pool was fairly small but the hot tub was great. I would recommend this hotel for it's proximity to great shopping and eating.”
“An excellent new hotel right in the centre of downtown Halifax. Staff was friendly, polite and efficient. The valet parking guy even asked if I needed directions to anywhere as he turned over the car to me. I had a hard time believing that I'd only paid $60 for such high quality accommodation.”
“We enjoyed our full weekend stay at the Courtyard because it was so clean with friendly staff who took their duties very seriously. We walked to different restaurants and attractions within minutes.
