We tried to go to La Mexicana, another Mexican restaurant on Yonge St but it was full. They recommended Cocina Lucero and I am so glad that they did. The staff were excellent and the food was fabulous. If you are looking for Mexican in Yorkville, you must give this place a try!
We stopped in on a Monday night after finding our intended destination, the Brazilian place next door, was closed. We were seated outdoors at a wobbly table and left there for quite a while before our waiter came over to take drink orders. We were entertained in the interim by two drunk homeless persons who were engaged in a boisterous... more
We went to Cocina Lucero for a business lunch. It is walking distance from Queen’s Park. The restaurant itself is not large, but the food was the best Mexican ever. They advertise that their food is fresh and made from scratch and judging from our meal that is believable. I ordered the lunch size enchiladas and it could have fed... more
Walked by this restaurant on Sunday; tried it on Monday. Friendly, prompt accommodating service. Enticing food presentation. I had orchata (refreshing, not overtly sweet) and the pescado veracruzano. My husband had had the enchilada plate (two cheese one beef, topped with a red sauce), both came with a salad of fresh greens and frijoles negros, charro style topped with queso... more
We went for Mother's Day yesterday. We ordered enchiladas, tacos, a soup and a cornmeal cake on a corn cob husk. None of us liked the food and the service wasn't so great either. I'm surprised to see positive reviews! The beef tacos where so stringy and unflavoured. Would not visit again.
Cocina Lucero is located conveniently in downtown Toronto. It makes for ideal place for a Mexican meal before/after shopping, touring around, seeing a show or just about anything you would want to do downtown Toronto. Cocina Lucero is definitely a sit-down and enjoy yourself leisurely type of meal. I had the enchiladas, they were perfectly cooked with a tad spicy... more
This isn't a really fancy restaurant but the food is great - especially the fish tacos, that include fish, shrimp or lobster. They don't come with alot of toppings but you can add your own which is nice. The beer selection is good too.
One caveat - during the cold weather, don't sit near the windows - it can get...

Did you ever walk by a restaurant and look inside and see happy people enjoying food in a relaxed atmosphere and wish you were there right now?
Do not walk past Cocina Lucero... open the door, step inside and enjoy!
You are greeted by a great host/bartender/server who could be your best friend in an instant. The menu is just...

A group of 7 of us went to Cocina Lucero while in TO for a conference. We visited on a Sunday night around 7:30 pm. A foodie friend had it on her list of restaurants to try. The restaurant is nice and clean and our waiter was courteous, helpful and encouraging of our attempts to speak Spanish. The food was... more
I would recommend is placed anyone interested in good Mexican food in Toronto downtown.
It's located near Panasonic theatre - And we had dinner here before
we went to see Cats the musical.
Sat outside and atmosphere felt like you we're in Mexico. Delish fish tacos w cabbage and a kick to the sauce. Guacamole to die for. Beef taco meat slow cooked, tender & shredded. Chicken was moist and flavorful - lots of leftovers and very reasonable
When we entered the resturant and we were told that the kitchen was closing in a 30 minutes. We said OK and were seated. When the waiter came back for our drink order and we gave him our dinner order as well. We felt very rushed. But there were three tables that came after us that were given time to... more
My meal was great; very tasty. The atmosphere is very casual... This is not a place to go if you're in a hurry. Tables are close together. I received good service and pleasant conversation even though they were very busy. Outdoor or indoor seating. Small menu. Relaxed environment... more
Most of my mex meals were at Mexican village in Detroit where pre dinner margaritas sometimes adjust the palate. I was pleasantly surprised when after only 1 mojito (which was tasty too ), the chicken breast in mole sauce was yummy. I thought the salsa was bang on for flavour & heat. I recommend that you try this place if... more
There were five of us and a baby in a pram, cruising, but becoming increasingly hungry. We came across this place, stopped in, and had a lovely, generous Mexican meal. It was very fairly priced and thoroughly enjoyable.
Given the opportunity, we all said we would go back.
We arrived shortly after six, and although the restaurant was not (yet) full, the service was on the slow side. We had to ask for our place settings and for water. As the place filled up, it was clear that staffing was a problem. Our appetizers, two ceviches, were a long time coming, and the soup our sons had ordered... more
Our family visited on Easter Sunday afternoon. The service, by two pleasant young men, was leisurely, but not overly slow. The Sopa Azteca was ok, but not very substantial, missing something I can't identify ... needed a little more chicken or vegetable chunks or something. The taquito appetizer with potato and chorizo were tasty, but no Mexican would recognize the... more
I went here with my wife and younger son. We shared an elaborate salad and shrimp in a vegetable dish in which tomato predominated. I had the filleted fish for my main course; it was very good. My wife had a vegetable dish, which she liked; our son had chicken and enjoyed it. Everything went down very easily. If you're... more
Fantastic authentic mexican food, not that Tex-Mex nonsense we find everywhere. I go there regularly and it is consistently great. The only "problem" could be that they are occasionally under-staffed, which explains slow service which leads cry-babies write nasty reviews simply because they didn't get their food the minute they entered the restaurant. Visit Cocina Lucero while you can; pretty... more
The restaurant is cute enough and the service was alright when I went. But the food was unremarkable. Stale tortilla chips, stale rice. Pretty expensive considering the quality of the food.
I had lunch several times at this restaurant and I enjoyed it. I paid $15-20 and ate a lot of authentic mexican food. One of my friends celebrated birthday here and invited me. The food is good. Especially, I liked the fact that they had mexican beer offered at this restaurant.
Overall, good place for lunch or small birthday parties.
My husband and I have been looking forward to trying this Mexican restaurant and finally went last night. It was busy, but a nice couple at a table for 4 made room for us.
We ordered a pitcher of red wine sangria and both of the ceviche starters( shrimp/fish)
The sangria was dreadful. Sweet and had an odd foam on...

We ate lunch at Cochina Lucero a small family owned Mexican Restaurant about a 5 minute drive from Maple Leaf Gardens. The restaurant itself is very quaintly decorated in the Mexican style; brightly coloured tiles, thick wooden tables and chairs that weighed about 50lbs! ;-) It was not packed, but then again we arrived around 2:30. The service was friendly... more
And so much more! I love Cocina Lucero. The minute you walk in, you can tell it's a family business, which is just fantastic. The menu is a bit pricey compared to others in the area, but absolutely reasonable when you consider the quantity (huge portions) and the quality (always delicious).
This is a great place for groups. They are...

Very nice Mexican. Extremely fresh ingredients. All food served hot and prepared to order. The burrito was excellent with eggs, cheese, avocado and tomatoes. Fresh fruit plate served with a lovely presentation. The staff was friendly and although their English was spotty our waiter was interested in improving. The outside setting was just right.
My husband and I visited around lunchtime during the week and sat outside in the pleasant patio area. We both throughly enjoyed our food and found our servers to be excellent. It was just a wonderful introduction to Toronto and its exciting diversity in food and people. I will always treasure memory with the photo which I'm attaching.
My wife and i where in toronto for a play and decided to venture away from the hotel for dinner. I'm glad we did and very happy we stummbled upon this place. We both love mexican food but finding true authentic mexican food is tough. This place more that satisfies. First off, we where lucky to get a seat so... more
We recently tried this little place which has been in our neighbourhood under a couple of different names for a few years now. We were quite impressed.
