Casual Eatery With All You Can Eat MusselsEnglish Style Fish & Chips
The restaurant need some repairs but very tasty and price range also good. I would suggest a little more varieties in the meal.
Like many, we were drawn to Coasters by the sandwich boards on the sidewalk. My wife and I decided on the all you can eat mussels at $19 each. I added an all you can eat fries. We got our drinks in good time and our table had a nice view of the street performers outside. There is actually quite... more
After a long day of sightseeing, my husband & I ended at this place by sheer chance & their promotion on a BOGO on Fish & Chips. The place seemed ok & we were not really expecting much. However, our server - Alex - turned out to be a gem. We ordered steamed mussels in a tomato broth, which was... more
we enjoyed good food. the prices were affordable. the menu had slightly limited choices, but we had no problem selecting something for each of us
My wife and I visited this restaurant after reading the menu outside, there were some delicious sounding dishes so we thought we would give it a chance. Unfortunately we could not see inside the restaurant as the menu is displayed at street level and the restaurant is on the first floor. We have to say we did not like the... more
This is a staple of ours whenever we are in Ottawa.
A great location in the Bytown market - right near the actual market stalls.
Go early and the wait for each tasty bowl of mussels will be minimal. Go when it is busy and of course the wait will be longer.
On our last visit, Alex M. (our friendly...

Granted it is the long weekend but why offer all you can mussels when all they can serve you is 1 bowl (wait time for second bowl is 1/2 hour) Staff is nice - offer free dessert and discounted the meal
very good meal huge portions I could not believe the size of the tilapia sandwich I laughed when they put it in front of my husband . the veggie burger was great and our friends had the lobster grill cheese and said it was amazing . I marked the value at average because I think to kick it up a... more
Casual dining with seating overlooking the Byward Market. Had a giant, delicious salad and husband enjoyed the steak. What a way to end the day in this beautiful city!
Coasters is the upper level restaurant which was mostly student couples the Sunday night we were there. Atmosphere is private with small table groupings providing an intimate atmosphere. Basement restaurant features jazz decor and sometimes live groups. We ordered mussels which were copious, delicious and nicely presented.Restaurant overlooks ByWard Market. Service was attentive and friendly.... more
We stopped by looking for a quick meal during a trip to the Byward Market with visiting relatives. We were sat at a table and served glasses of water and thats as far as we got. My glass of water had a long hair in it and my wife's glass had a lipstick stain from a previous patron. We left... more
We were looking for something in Byward and people on the street recommended The Fish Market - it was packed with an hour and half wait but the hostess recommended we go upstairs to Coasters. It was a good idea! While the restaurant downstairs was jammed, Coasters was busy but we were able to get in right away. Not only... more
We were walking by this restaurant at lunch time and decided to stop in. Both my husband and I ordered the salmon and were happy we did. The tomato based clam chowder was extremely salty but the waitress had forewarned us. The waitress was very helpful and friendly.
So it seems like the gf and I like to eat late at night as there was nobody else inside. Food and service was excellent. Tried a few things that I would prob. not try ever and was amazed. That and the server told me not to be a chicken and live a little ha ha
Reasonable prices...mussels were very fresh and so good. Clam chowder was delicious and very hot as chowder should be. French fries with mussels were crisp and excellent. Very good service.
Dipping oil with Fennel/garlic/spices was spot on with warm bread. Our server was very friendly and educated us on some local Canadian lingo...I had fish tacos - just yummy with the mango chutney! The hostess (we had seen her at the downstairs place the night before) gave us some discount cards to use at the 3rd place in the same... more
We came here for a late lunch one weekend day in September. We only had appetizers as a snack before going to a show at the nac. We ordered the crab dip and we also tried the shrimp skewers. The food was just ok, and the decor was a bit dated. The service was excellent.
We came here thanks to ottawakiosk.com discount offer and we took the dine for two for only $29. My bf took a steak and I took a fish & chips while our friend took a lobster cheese sandwich: all sizzling, although the service was long and the french fries were ordinary.
good food, good service and nice atmosphre. we each had entrees. crab cakes very tasty. i had the mussels, excellant. then we both had the goat cheese salad. wow plenty of it and very good. vine by the glass a bit expensive. beer decent price. overall pleasant evening.
This is one of the best places we ate at on a 3 week 3,750 mile driving trip from Minnesota thru the UP, Quebec City, Bar Harbor Maine to Niagara Falls thru Chicago and home. We had driven much of the day from Slt St Marie and then did a self guided walking tour of Ottawa with a plan to... more
EXCELLENT service and the mussels are top notch!!! They have $19 all u can eat mussels...Kids menu is great and good selection of draugh....right in centre of Byward market
The seafood here is great as is the service. A real treat in Byward and Coasters is worth checking out.
We ordered the grilled cheese with lobster, it was gross.
Each slice was half an inch thick, inside was drowning in cheese, and there was only 6-7 scrawny little pieces of lobster. And it was greasy and the fries were bad too. All of this a whopping $24...

When there with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. We've walked by the restaurant many times and finally decided to go there for my birthday dinner.
The pub is quite big and we were seated by the window looking out to York Street. It was a great view. But the food was so-so. We shared crab cakes, I had the...

We went in for some fish and chips. The halibut was good. The fries were soggy and oily like the oil wasn't hot enough. The coleslaw didn't taste fresh. Our bill was over fifty bucks with one beer and one pop, seemed a little high.
Well, I hadn't been to Coasters for a few months I guess, so I was somewhat surprised when I got my menu. This place has had a Menu Makeover, lol. And what a great change! All you can eat mussels were still there, Thank God, but there's tons of new stuff. I had to try the burger, AKA The Tallest... more
Went there after i saw 2 for 1 $14 fish n chips a-frame outside. I wasnt expecting too much cuz of the price but BAM! I gotta tell ya, its 2plates of tilapia fish n chips n its real good food as great value. i havent even tried tilapia in my life n I will try actual fillet next time.... more
I used to go to Coasters when I went to Ottawa U when I was younger but moved away after graduating. I have moved back and I wanted to try some of the places I used to go to. Coasters still has all you can eat mussels which I love, and they have changed their menu. The fish tacos is... more
Went there for a work lunch. Service was fast, food was good our server was quick and answered all our questions. Price was great since we were in a group menu prices already included tip and tax, although we thought the tip was way too low
After four hours of walking around Ottawa we were looking for a place for a late lunch. The first few places we checked out were packed, so we decided to give this place a try. Not sure what to expect, we walked up the stairs to find a cozy dining space that was relatively empty. Our waiter was very friendly... more
In a nutshell : Very pricey for the quality.
The service was pleasant enough, however the rest of the experience was very unsatisfying. The atmosphere was drab and washed out, the music absolutely inappropriate for dining (eninem???).
The food was bland and boring.
I would not recommend this restaurant. To the owner, I would recommend extensive renovations and a new...

Ok so me and my wife went for the al you could eat mussels. For 15$ which seemed reasonable. But after having a bottle of the cheapest wine on the menu and a couple of side dishes. We got a bill totalling over 80 dollars! The mussels weren't as good as you would normally expect from an average Canadian restaurant.... more
Worst seafood restaurant I've ever been to.
Stay away from ESPECIALLY "Paella" (typical spanish dish) on the menue.
It would have been funny if we hadn’t been ravenous. Following an interminable wait for our lunch order, the waiter very nearly set the plate down but yanked it away because he said it had too many pieces of fish on it. Five minutes later, the plate, including the surplus fish, was grudgingly returned, now cold. My order of “spicy... more
Food was OK but no more. Coconut shrimp (six) were overcooked, overwhelmed by tangent mustard sauce and overpriced as an appetizer. The rest, soup, salad, etc., were OK but I've tasted better. Beware: domestic draft beer which is served in small glass probably the most expensive in Ottawa per once.
I went to the coasters seafood grill upstairs from the fish market restaurant for the second time because the first time I had a good experience.
This time I ordered the HALIBUT fish and chips.
When I got the order I started eating and I realized it wasn't halibut.
AND I AM SURE OF THIS BECAUSE MY PARENTS OWNED AND...

This was the perfect meal, from the side cesear salad that came with bacon bits to the fish and chips to the all you can eat mussels. Everything was prepared perfectly, the service was fantastic and the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. Highly recommended!
The purpose of our visit was to have a special "upscale" lunch with my son (21 yrs. old) who is attending the University of Ottawa. He had never been to Coasters before, so we thought we'd give it a try.
When I made the reservations, I asked for a window table so we could look down at the hustle and...

Pretty good mussels, but expensive, watch out.
Great mussels on the all you can eat menu. Had to ask for a spoon (I like the broth) and was not offered more bread but the mussels in white wine were very good. The apple crumble did not crumble.
Service was good and I would go back for recommended items
I recall this dining experience as being quite ordinary. That being said, there are very few restaurants in Ottawa where good fish can be eaten so arguably, this one is no worst than the others.
After reading the reviews here, we weren't expecting much. It's not a fancy restaurant, but a fair bit better than a place like Red Lobster. The food was *much* better. While waiting for our order, we were brought a complientary Salmon Pateé with Melba Toast.
The staff was courteous, offering to hang up our wet rain coats for us (it...

I knew something was wrong when there were very few diners on Mother's Day. We had a beautiful table over looking the street and from there on-down hill. The menu looked great if not a little expensive-but hey!-It's Mother's Day. The drinks were fine but the Oyster Appetizer was awful. I mean terrible. With four people sharing you would think... more
Nice place to sit by a fire and eat all you can eat mussels
Best fish and chips I've ever had!
eh.. not too fussy.. it was better before the renos a few years ago.
Coasters Seafood and Grill, is the star of the Byward market. A favorite among locals this restaurant offers the best seafood and fish around. Old brick walls with stone tables, chairs and couches make up the interiors. Prints of the Canal Rideau and a view of the market add a romantic feel to the place. The clams, mussels and the grilled fish are the most sought after here. Team your superb... more
